I wasn't watching WWE again until the beginning of this year (thank God)... was this reign as boring and miserable as I imagine it would be? After year 2 or so I would just give up. 4 years is fucking crazy and id get so bored.
>>19434286That's the "smark" consensus when it comes to that version of Roman Reigns. It started off good but then you know what happened. He's hasn't been booked very well since he lost the belt.
>>19434286It was booked exclusively for brown and biracial "people" who are obsessed with hype, aura and cinemaRomanetty was never good
>>19434342>>19434315How did you guys not get bored of the same champion for 4 years? Did he have very believable title defenses that you thought he'd lose?
maybe it needs to be said--for the record, i am not consolewarring, I am an E-Titan and fucking hate gayew. I'm just really curious about how people didnt get bored.
>>19434358I actually enjoyed the buildup, but when he unified the belts I lost interest in watching for a while.
I only started watching in 2023 so the last year or so of his reign. There were some bright spots like the Sami stuff, Cody at WM39, LA Knight feud.
>>19434383it was losing steam by the second year but Sami honestly gave it way more legs when he got involved
>>19434286yo im in the same boat OPMy question is did Roman have filler title defenses like Cody/Hangmaam or were they intriguing?
>>19434358he would have a feud, then disappear for months, and Smackdown would hype ROMAN RETURNS NEXT WEEK and he'd redo it with someone else rinse and repeat
It was absolutely miserable, don't let anyone gaslight you into thinking otherwise.
>>19434526What were the threads on /pw/ like? Lol id imagine a lot of complaining
>>19434286It's easy to hold a belt for 4 years when you only defend it 4-5 times a year.
>>19434532Best was when they did Roman vs Drew in bongland and the finish was a random coconut family member(solo sikoa) runs out to screw drew and he pulls his hood off in le epic reveal and it's this 5 foot guy nobody's ever fucking seen or heard of before, and then after the match drew sung a song in the ring with tyson fury like an idiot
>>19434286So if you have seen Raw and saw the World Heavyweight Championship? Well, that was created because of Roman's reign of terror. And for the record, the current WHC has a completely fresh lineage as the lineage of the OG big gold belt is part of the WWE title.
>>19434286>56 title defenses Over 40 of those were in the first 1.5 years, I hope you guys know that
WWE fans have become way too cocky. They've had one decent year of television in a decade and they drone on like shit was always good LOL
>>19434693>after the match drew sung a song in the ring with tyson fury like an idiotWhy is this bad? I've seen this sentiment a lot and I don't get it
>>19434286I actually think it was a very boring, overhyped reign until we got into the Sami Zayn angle, then when Cody got involved it became one of my favorite stories in wrestling.
>>19434286I think it was a unique combination of things.1) COVID made things weird. WWE may have thought a consistent champion was easier/better during those first couple years since you never knew what new restriction or obstacle may wreck a storyline. 2) His leukemia makes him a special case.3) He’s regularly very open about not wanting to be away from his family for too long. 4) Given the above, I think the WWE really leaned into trying this “less is more” experiment where his appearances mean more if there’s fewer of them. And all of that may have been fine if his in-ring matches actually delivered when they did occur. But that’s the problem. They didn’t. He’s not really that great in-ring. And these days he gets by entirely on presence (like a lot of the top tier). Bottom line, he was probably what the company needed during a weird time, but I think we’re all glad it’s over. And it certainly wasn’t an “epic” reign.
>>19435038I appreciate the response, brotha, and same with everyone else. I'm pretty drunk but I promise I will read the entire thread tonorrow
It's better than playing musical chairs for champion with guys like Miz and Kofi and it got Roman compared to legends. And solidified him as a god in India.
most of 2023 into 2024 was just filler before he dropped the belt. he should have lost at mania 39 but they wanted to go for the big 40 thing
>>19434286Should have Roman lost the belt a few times and win it back again immediately after just to crown Edge and Drew, or was the very long title reign route better?
>>19434286>>19434358>Did he have very believable title defenses that you thought he'd lose?a couple but not really. Nobody wanted him to lose, he was the best part of the show and it was nice to finally have a guy who is clearly the best. It didn't get boring because the show was booked around his stable. it was classic build to the ppv type booking. when vince left and roman got a new part time contract it fell off a cliff. the last year was really unnecessary
The COVID years aren’t canon
>>19434358short attention spanfags ruin everything
>>19435768That was 5 years ago anon
This guy killed WWE faster than Super Cena and Booker Triple H
>>19434286i'm getting so bored of cody after almost 2 yearsi don't count cena's 3 month excursion with iti cannot imagine how bad it would have been for 4 years with roman
>>19434315>He's hasn't been booked very well since he lost the belt. It's hard to book someone well when they show up for 3 weeks then take 2 months off and repeat this for 1.5 years
>>19434990Because why would you do that right after you got screwed out of a title? You're just giving the spotlight to some random celebrity.
>>19434990i've heard that the crowd were about to riot and that drew had to belt one out to calm them down after the cameras turned off, and it was obviously goofy and embarrassing and he didn't want it out there - no idea if any of that is true
>>19434286It was only interesting towards the end. The first couple of years were brutally bad.
>>19434286I'll put it this way: It made me look back on the PG Super Cena era fondly. It was absolutely depressing. And the fact he's now held so highly makes it worse, maddening.
>>19434286It was great and felt special when he did show up. Usos having the tag straps for both shows further cemented the Bloodline as the real deal and having Sami provided some comedic balance. Also, it made Cody's win WAY more poignant. Don't listen to zoomers here who have a short attention span
>>19436217the champion shouldn't be a part timerdoubly so when he has both fucking belts
>>19436217>when he did show upnever watched but this always seemed weird to me, you just watched main event feuds with no belt for most of the year? what were the stakes?
Tribal misao warningBeware her blessed bike
>>19435825i previously heard that it was better towards the beginning and got worse towards then end when he wasn’t full time anymore and every match ended in coconut interference (more than it did previously i guess), first i’m hearing that someone liked the latter part of his reign better
>>19435819kek no, the crowd wasn't "shoot" unhappy with Roman retaining, the Bloodline was insanely over in 2022What happened was that they had Tyson Fury, UK boxer, in the crowd (show was in UK remember), and he sometimes sings after his fights, but this time Drew basically went into biz for himself and brought him in the ring, but the guy didn't wanna sing so Drew just sang himself and it was very awkward especially because the camera was still running for some reason. It seemed like a "dark" type of thing that they do after the shows, but to be fair they do this a lot now where they just keep the cameras rolling through the post-show. Anyway it was only really awkward because Tyson Fury singing probably wasn't planned but Drew thought it was cool so he tried to force him, and it didn't work so he just sang alone
>>19434358nothing special about the matches themselves but the drama within the bloodline kept things from being too stale. Sami's inclusion helped a LOT and lifted Coconut Theater to new heights
people forget WWE was in the shitter before Roman saved it with this reignnow its slowly declining again
>>19436239...?
Roman sucks, he can’t do anything Hangman can do or anyone else in AEW can do.
>>19436786Who the fuck is hangman? You mean hangfag the butterfly pants wearing cowboy?
>>19436792Yes, he has empathy for immigrants, that’s what it symbolizes
>>19436796Immigrants aint butterflies
>>19434286I would die for this man. Also, you should have watched from late '05 like I did. WWE is trash now.>>19434526It was fucking based.
>>19436217Uso sucks
>>19434532>What were the threads on /pw/ like? Lol id imagine a lot of complainingWWE threads were great from 2020-2022. As soon as smarks started watching again the vibe was ruined
>>19438489Why did smarks start watching again?
>>19439931Main reason because vince retired and was replaced by triple h who was still considered their guy at that time
>>19434286He seriously had that many defences during that reign? Or does it mean all time?
>>19434358>How did you guys not get bored of the same champion for 4 years?A lot of people did. The ratings took a nosedive
>>19440265During that reign. The first half of his reign he defended it more frequently while the latter half he only showed up to feud with someone every few months.Again, he showed up so few times during the second half of his reign, that the WHC was re-introduced with a brand new lineage.
>>19434358I can say I personally did get bored. It was the same finish over and over again, and it continued from the different bookers/match producers. Most of the promos that people remember do not come from roman himself but the setup that was build around him.General consensus is that Sami saved the angle for a bit, and there's some truth to that especially on week-to-week Smackdown which really fucking blew ass because of Roman's reign as the champ, he would rarely show up at a lot of points. When he got the title from Brock, the reign got significantly worse to the week-to-week RAW/Smackdown picture and to be quite honest, I'm not sure we've actually recovered from that.
>>19435038Good insight
>>19434286It was cool until he unified the belts because we still got a lot of other shit with the WWE strap. Once he got two belts it because trash.
