Why did the Gregory Helms experiment fail?

He was the Hurricane for so long that people refused to accept the character change.
>>
Should have been a super villain Hurricane.
>>
>>19438269
Gregory Shane Helms is was the most bland and boring cruiserweight of the 90's and 2000's yet for some reason both WCW and WWE tried to push him as the top of the division.

Shouldve just let him be the comedy jobber that printed merch money.
>>
>>19438755
He's a great worker

The Vertabreaker was dimes. Apologize.

INSIDER INFO: The guy from the deadlock podcast that never shows his face has (or had) a gay crush on Gregory Helms but didn't want the info to get out
>>
>>19438755
bullshit faggot fuck u
>>
>>19438875
Not to get too off topic but he's also an evil racist manlet chud when he isn't playing nice guy for his reddit fanbase
>>
>>19438905
That's based, I like him more now.
>>
>>19438583
I respect them for taking a bet and seeing if they could push Shane as a serious guy. WWE doesn't do that anymore, they pigeon hole a guy into a gimmick for life now
>>
>>19438716
Right? So weird they didn't explore that. Could have adopted a more Doctor Steel like persona or something.
>>
>>19439033
I could swear they did. Maybe just on Heat? I wanna say I remember him turning on Rosey and going heel as Hurricane. Am I schizo for that?
>>
>>19439428
IIRC, they teased a break up and Hurricane walked out on Rosey but they totally dropped it. A few months later they did the actual heel turn and he became Gregory Helms.
>>
>>19438269
Should have turned his head to the right instead.
>>
>>19439001
>>19438905
He's mentioned posting on /wooo/ multiple times on the podcast
>>
>>19438269
I don't know actually, both WWE and WCW seemed to think there was a lot of potential in Shane/Gregory but it never materialized
>>
>>19438583
The hurricane gimmick had a ceiling to it, they took a chance to see if he could be more, and it didn't work out. I take that over what WWE does these days where they're too scared to just take a bet on a guy
>>
>>19442994
Helms carried the cruiserweight division until he vertebroke himself and was out for a long-ass time. He came back but wasn't really the same, got put on ECW in a lame retread of the Hurricane gimmick against lifelong disappointment Paul Burchill and got released soon after. He said the plan was to give him the long CW reign and move him up so without the injury who knows? He probably would have gotten one of the midcard belts and could have been like Dolph and MVP and those types were.

Kind of a shame because he was good in the ring and almost always got over. Honestly, if Koko B. Ware is in the HoF for having a parrot, Helms should be in there too.
>>
>>19438269
We were too many years removed from Daniel Bryan being a world champion for someone that small to make it
>>
>>19444554
I don't think anybody's saying Helms should have been the (rat-)face of the company, but he was more consistently entertaining than a decent chunk of his contemperaries.
>>
>>19438887
Sup Greg.
