I'm just about to watch the most recent semi-final now. I've had fun with the tour! The team shakeups have made for interesting matchups (and some that I am torn on) and unlike last year I'm actually very happy with the top scorers.

I do still want him to become a singles guy because at his peak (G1 vs. Uemura is easily my favorite NJPW match this year) he's incredible, but I don't think you should discount a (possible, likely even) WTL win next to another singles star like ZSJ. Yeah, doing all of that and then an iron man is nuts, I couldn't imagine wrestling an iron man in general. I'm in decent shape, but I couldn't imagine going for a 60 minute run, having a guy just full send stomp on my stomach 30 minutes in, then getting up after a minute and continuing. But we're not done there, there were TWO more debuts on that same show! Tanahashi and Tsuruya debuted against each other. They didn't impress me quite as much in the details department, but their credentials are very interesting. They're both amateur wrestlers, like almost anyone who enters the NOAH dojo, and both very accomplished. Tsuruya (the one in grey) comes from a family of MMA fighters and his brother is a former Shooto champ. Very interested to see how that plays out. With how absolutely incredible Odashima's debut year has been, I have really high expectations for anyone coming out of the NOAH dojo, especially since they seem to intend to continue with the colored trunks thing.

I think AJPW has been trying hard to get a heelish side out of Ayabe and it's slowly starting to work. Working with a guy like Talos and having guys like Suzuki do this stuff to him helps.

From what I've seen from him (CC this year and onward is most of my exposure, really) I think he's always had a little bit of an edge to him, but mostly because he's a head taller than anyone else on the roster and, for some reason, an absurdly stiff striker. If anything I think the disconnect stems from his entrance gear and his "skipping-across-fields-anime-opening" theme.

I'll give AJPW tons of credit. Yuma's driving adventure was stupid on his part and a blow to the tournament but AJPW recovered fast by having Anzai laser in on Kento, have a small feud with Saito, and build a feud with Dragon Gate's Kikuta. If you ever get free time and caught up on other stuff I do recommend the December 7th show and the December 10th show. Both were really good and solid proof that AJPW really took a bad situation and somehow turned it around and got a lot of great stuff cooking instead.

Yuma Aoyagi caused a car wreck and ends up he was on a suspended license too so AJPW punished him by making him forfeit the tournament, issue a public apology, and be out of action for a few months. I'm just pleased that instead of completely derailing Anzai it instead shot him right into a title shot with Kento plus him and Kikuta beefing and Anzai even teasing that maybe he'll go after the Dragon Gate title too. It has me a bit too excited I admit and I'm even having to familiarize myself with modern Dragon Gate a bit more because the AJPW/Dragon Gate stuff has been really good so far. Fairly I'm pleased with a lot of things out of puro right now so it's easy to get excited.

And here I thought Yuma in your previous post was Anzai, because he was also gone for a good while this year. I agree, though, the peeks I've gotten into AJPW this year has been good. I really liked the Saito reign and Kento's got such undeniable crowd connection that I can't complain about anything he does.

Yeah, DG has been very good this year too, especially Kikuta's booking. He's always been one of my favorites so having him see him get his flowers (his fucked up, evil heel-flowers) has been nice. NOAH's been great too, especially Odashima's first year and Inamura's return and championship win. I think NJPW has, especially in comparison, been misstepping a lot. But even with them there have been tons of bright spots.

Yeah, same. Doesn't help that they kinda flubbed everything post-that too and Takeshita is a non-champ. And I LIKE Takeshita. He's just been booked like shit. The AEW partnership is really showing its wear at this point. Like I said there have been bright spots, but the Goto reign is my main one and that ended on a sour note. Oiwa and Uemura is my second major one, but the company hasn't really gone full send on them yet. I hope this tag league is the start of Oiwa's side of that, though.
