I'm a little curious to see how the Kurama stuff goes in AJPW. I'm sure Yano is aware he's on thin ice and if he fucks up in AJPW he may not get in anywhere else in Japan.

AJPW one was posted on 5ch days ago, forgot to post it.
About CF most comment says that probably is NOAH is the biggest money eater, understandably so
Also got mentioned that ABEMA NOAH channel is ranking up 19th while the rest of channels are all about kickboxing.

Running Shiozaki vs Shouta again to me suggests both are signing with AJPW because they've already had a singles match recently. I guess the big thing is going to be who leaves. Nomura seemed to have hinted he may be leaving but he's been the only one I've noticed so far.

It tends to skew to NJPW and Stardom no matter what. While I wouldn't say NJPW had a terrible year I think a lot of the other puro promotions had a better one.

DDT had a really good year, aside Takeshita in NJPW of course there is Ueno double champ and MAO attending BOSJ for the first time and doing pretty well.
They could be both nominated in "minor categories" but like you said I think they campaigned pretty hard for Takechi and invested in an "outsider" who can bring to them (but not just them, also other promotions, see him being booked for Tana's retirement show) more casuals to start to watch puro.

A lot of people pointed out that KOB winning the tag also doesn't make sense. it's clear that the award is all about publicity and "who made the most noise".

OZAWA on the Tokyo Sports Puroresu Award Winners:

“Today, I want to talk about the “Tokyo Sports Pro Wrestling Awards.”

This is about the so-called “Tokyo Sports Pro Wrestling Awards,” or rather, the “Favoritism Awards,” and I’m honestly furious. I’ve been strongly asserting to the public that “I should be this year’s Pro Wrestling MVP,” and I’ve even gone to great lengths to curry favor and lobby the Tokyo Sports and the selection committee members, even giving them custom-made castella cakes from Bunmeido.

As you all know, the results are in. I didn’t win the MVP; I only won “Match of the Year.” The MVP went to Saya Kamitani of the women’s pro wrestling promotion STARDOM.

...To be honest, after seeing these results, I have to say, it’s a complete defeat.

The number of votes was overwhelming, leaving no room for anyone else. Kamitani’s victory was decisive. A complete defeat, a crushing defeat, an overwhelming defeat. But this is a “defeat for the pro wrestling world.”
>>
>>19518527
Looking at the reasons for the award, things like “appearing on terrestrial television” and “spreading women’s pro wrestling to the public” are listed first. Reasons like “defending the title seven times” are added later, but ultimately, the evaluation is mostly based on spreading pro wrestling to the public.

But that has nothing to do with pro wrestling, does it? The award is decided more by television appearances than by what happens in the ring. As a wrestler, it’s extremely disappointing that off-ring achievements account for the majority of the evaluation, and I think this is truly a defeat for the pro wrestling world.

The same goes for the Rookie of the Year award. Kaisei Takechi of THE RAMPAGE won, but how many matches did he have this year? A person who only wrestled a few times as a side job becomes the most brilliant rookie wrestler of the year. Ultimately, he was also evaluated because he “came from a popular group and brought pro wrestling to the public.” There were many other rookie wrestlers who worked hard and excelled in the ring.

If this logic holds, then next year’s MVP will be Fuwa-chan. She has more name recognition than anyone else and the power to spread pro wrestling to the public. The Tokyo Sports Pro Wrestling Awards, once again this year, pandered to public opinion and showed favoritism towards the Bushiroad Group. “The Pro Wrestling Awards have absolutely no authority”—that’s what Inamura said, right?

I heard Inamura saying that. Is he jealous because he didn’t win any awards? Let’s not do things like throwing insults at the award winners, including myself. I’m already furious, so to avenge the insulted winners, I’m going to crush him at the January 1st Nippon Budokan!
>>

OZAWA’s Personal “Truthful” Opinion
From here on, this is my, OZAWA’s, personal opinion.

The fact that a woman won the Pro Wrestling Awards MVP for the first time is truly wonderful. This is a “revolution” in the pro wrestling world.

There are often “pro wrestling fundamentalists” or “pro wrestling right-wingers” who say things like, “Pro wrestling today is not like it used to be...” But if you had consistently attended the venues, the old-fashioned pro wrestling you love would still be around. Be aware that you are a “vocal minority,” and please enjoy pro wrestling quietly in the shadows so as not to disturb the many people who are enjoying today’s pro wrestling.

The fact that this year’s MVP was a woman is a message from Tokyo Sports. I interpret it as a message that “pro wrestling should be more free, more liberal. Now is the time for change.”

...Well, I have absolutely no complaints about the results. But Tokyo Sports and the selection committee members, give back that castella cake! I’m coming to collect it right now!”

Translation of the Tokyo Sports awards page, which includes the reasons given for certain nominations
>On December 16, a selection committee meeting was held in Tokyo. This year as well, the “Iron Man” Kenta Kobashi was appointed as a Special Selection Committee Member. A total of 19 selection committee members—including experts from various media outlets—engaged in spirited discussions. (One member was absent due to health reasons and voted in advance; in some cases, the final ballot was conducted with 18 members.)
>At the opening of the meeting, Junichi Hatsuyama, Deputy Managing Editor of the Tokyo Sports Newspaper editorial department and chair of the selection committee, offered greetings, saying: “Amid major changes in the times, we believe that incorporating diverse perspectives from both inside and outside the company will lead to more meaningful selections. We would greatly appreciate your frank and candid opinions.”
>Following this, Kobashi encouraged active debate, saying: “I hope we can have another passionate discussion today as we decide the winners of the 2025 Pro Wrestling Awards. Thank you all for your cooperation.”

>[MVP]
>The nominees were five wrestlers: Hirooki Goto (New Japan Pro-Wrestling), Saya Kamitani (STARDOM), KONOSUKE TAKESHITA (DDT/AEW /New Japan), Hiroshi Tanahashi (New Japan), and OZAWA (NOAH).
>Regarding Goto, who captured the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship for the first time in February at the age of 45, evaluators noted that “especially in the first half of the year, he demonstrated a commanding veteran presence and sparked a ‘Goto boom,’” praising how he captivated fans through what became known as the “Goto Revolution.”
>As for Kamitani, who was unusually nominated as a female wrestler, it was said that “she won the World title in December last year and continued to successfully defend it, and her retirement match with Tam Nakano also became a major topic of conversation.
>>
>>19521731
>She appeared on television programs, increasing awareness of STARDOM and professional wrestling as a whole, and contributed to the development of the industry.” Her activities beyond the ring were cited as key reasons for her nomination.
>Takeshita was described as having “unquestionable credentials,” with comments such as: “For the first time, he was affiliated with three promotions. On January 4, he defeated Shingo Takagi in a double title match, won the G1 Climax, and then defeated Zack Sabre Jr. to capture the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. He has consistently delivered results.”
>Regarding Tanahashi, it was noted that “with his retirement scheduled for the January 4 Tokyo Dome show next year, his presence was especially strong throughout the year. He was challenged by various champions in the title scene, and the achievement of selling out next year’s Tokyo Dome is also remarkable.” For these reasons, he was nominated for MVP in the final year of his active career.
>As for OZAWA, there were joking remarks such as “because he gave us castella cake…,” but he was ultimately evaluated based on his ability, having captured the GHC Heavyweight Championship in a record-fast two years and four months after his debut. He was recommended with praise such as: “His athleticism and ability to control the pace of a match were on full display in NOAH’s traditional, orthodox style. Moreover, he helped spread pro wrestling match videos and brought the appeal of wrestling to people in their 20s. Not through entertainment activities, but by promoting the wrestling matches themselves—this had the greatest impact in 2025.”
>In the voting, Goto received 1 vote, Kamitani 11 votes, Takeshita 0 votes, Tanahashi 5 votes, and OZAWA 2 votes. Kamitani secured a majority in the first round, making her the first woman in history to win the MVP award.

>[Match of the Year Award]
>The following seven matches were nominated, along with their reasons for recommendation:
>>
>>19521733
>Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship, Kento Miyahara vs. Go Shiozaki (All Japan Pro Wrestling, October 22, Korakuen Hall): “Amid strong attention on Shiozaki’s in-ring performances after leaving NOAH, the technical exchanges between these two veteran wrestlers were perfectly in sync.”
>GHC Heavyweight Championship, Kaito Kiyomiya vs. OZAWA, (Pro Wrestling NOAH, January 1, Nippon Budokan): “This match marked the turning point that put NOAH on an upward trajectory. We’ve heard that tickets for subsequent regional shows also sold well.” “It created a feeling that people wanted to see OZAWA from that point on. He has the power to change the mood of an entire promotion.”
>G1 Climax Final, KONOSUKE TAKESHITA (Konosuke Takeshita) vs. EVIL, (New Japan Pro-Wrestling, August 17, Ariake Arena): “Takeshita won the tournament for the first time. You could also really feel EVIL’s strengths in this match.”
>Kenny Omega vs. Gabe Kidd, (New Japan Pro-Wrestling, January 5, Tokyo Dome): “Many people said this match was incredible. Even Hiroshi Tanahashi was so moved that he was in tears.”
>IWGP World Heavyweight Championship, Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Hirooki Goto, (New Japan Pro-Wrestling, February 11, Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium): “With an atmosphere where everyone 100% wanted Goto to win, the outcome was exactly what the entire audience hoped for. That sense of atmosphere and unity alone makes it worthy of Best Bout.”
>World Championship – Loser Retires Match, Saya Kamitani vs. Tam Nakano, (STARDOM, April 27, Yokohama Arena): “Taking into account the entire build-up and the result, this was an exceptionally unique match rarely seen in recent years. It also became the catalyst for Kamitani’s breakout. The same match could never be replicated.”
>>
>>19521737
>Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Danshoku Dino, (DDT Pro-Wrestling, August 31, Korakuen Hall): “This was an epoch-making match that finally realized a first-ever singles meeting between two wrestlers of the same generation from their Kansai Student Pro Wrestling days—representing New Japan and DDT, major and independent promotions alike. The match itself was excellent, settled a rivalry dating back ten years, and, on top of that, featured Tanahashi wearing a thong.”
>Voting Results: In the first round of voting, Miyahara vs. Shiozaki received 1 vote; Kiyomiya vs. OZAWA 9 votes; Takeshita vs. EVIL 0 votes; Kenny vs. Gabe 5 votes; Zack vs. Goto 2 votes; Kamitani vs. Nakano 1 vote; and Tanahashi vs. Dino 1 vote. As no match achieved a majority, a runoff vote was held between the top two matches: Kiyomiya vs. OZAWA and Kenny vs. Gabe. In the final vote, Kiyomiya vs. OZAWA received 10 votes and was selected as Match of the Year.

>[Best Tag Team Award]
>The following four teams were nominated, along with their reasons for recommendation:
>Sendai Girls World Tag Team Champions “Team 200Kg”, Chihiro Hashimoto & Yuu: “In recent times, there haven’t been many teams that truly feel like real tag teams, but if there is one, it’s Team 200Kg.” “No matter where they go, that team is always entertaining.”
>New Japan Pro-Wrestling IWGP Tag Team Champions, “The Knockout Brothers (K.O.B.)” — Yuto-Ice & OSKAR: “They won the IWGP Tag Team titles in their very first challenge. Although they didn’t win the World Tag League, their strength in the ring as well as their words and conduct left a strong impression that they may have changed the phase of tag team wrestling in New Japan.”
>Tokyo Joshi Pro-Wrestling Princess Tag Team Champions, “Ober Eats” — Yuki Kamifuku & Wakana Uehara: “A tag team unlike anything seen before. It has also translated into strong reactions from the fans.”
>>
>>19521740
>All Japan Pro Wrestling World’s Strongest Tag Determination League Winners, “Titans of Calamity (ToC)” — Ren Ayabe & Talos: “The fact that they’re over two meters tall is fascinating. Their sheer size gives them a different level of credibility, and watching them live is especially compelling.”
>One vote was also cast for “no applicable team.”
>Voting Results: Team 200 Kg received 4 votes, K.O.B. received 11 votes, Ober Eats received 3 votes, and ToC received 0 votes. As a result, The Knockout Brothers (K.O.B.) won the award for the first time.

>[Outstanding Performance Award]
>KONOSUKE TAKESHITA (Konosuke Takeshita), Hiroshi Tanahashi, and OZAWA were nominated. In the first round of voting, Takeshita received 8 votes, Tanahashi 3 votes, and OZAWA 8 votes. In the runoff vote, Takeshita received 10 votes, edging out OZAWA’s 9, and was selected as the winner.

>[Fighting Spirit Award]
>Five wrestlers were nominated: Hiromu Takahashi (New Japan Pro-Wrestling), Hiroshi Tanahashi, Shun Skywalker (Dragon Gate), Sareee (Freelance), and OZAWA. In the first round of voting, Hiromu received 5 votes, Tanahashi 3 votes, Shun 1 vote, OZAWA 4 votes, and Sareee 6 votes.
>Hiromu was highly praised with comments such as, “He was active not only in New Japan but across many promotions, including NOAH,” and “He became the first Japanese wrestler to win the IWGP Tag Team titles as a junior heavyweight.” Sareee also received strong support, with remarks like, “The term ‘fighting spirit’ truly fits her, especially considering how she battles both opponents and fans in hostile territory.” The runoff vote was held between Hiromu and Sareee. Sareee received 11 votes, surpassing Hiromu’s 8, and thus became the first female wrestler to win three major awards.

>[Technical Skill Award]
>The award was contested among Shun Skywalker, OZAWA, Hiromu Takahashi, Minoru Suzuki, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Kuroshio TOKYO Japan (Uptown).
>>
>>19521745
>In the first round of voting, Shun received 1 vote, OZAWA 6 votes, Hiromu 5 votes, Suzuki 1 vote, Tanahashi 5 votes, and Kuroshio 1 vote—no one achieved a majority.
>Because the runoff vote resulted in a tie, a tiebreaker vote was held between the wrestlers who placed second. Tanahashi received 10 votes, surpassing Hiromu’s 8, and advanced to the final runoff against OZAWA, who had placed first in the initial round. In the final vote, OZAWA received 6 votes and Tanahashi received 12 votes, resulting in Tanahashi winning the Technical Skill Award for the first time in his career, in the final year of his active wrestling career.

>[Women’s Pro Wrestling Grand Prize]
>Saya Kamitani, who won the MVP award, was automatically selected.

>[Rookie of the Year Award]
>The nominees were Jiro Shimbashi (Dragon Gate), Daiki Odashima (NOAH), Kaisei Takechi (DDT / LDH), Victoria Yuzuki (Marigold), and Daiki Nagai (New Japan Pro-Wrestling). In the first round of voting, Shimbashi received 1 vote, Odajima 3 votes, Yuzuki 3 votes, and Nagai 2 votes. Surpassing them all, Takechi received 10 votes and won the Rookie of the Year Award, having been praised as “a newcomer who will become a game-changer in how talent and professional wrestling intersect.”
>In addition, Teppei Arita of the comedy duo Cream Stew will receive the Special Topic Award. Since 2022, Arita has been sharing the appeal of professional wrestling through his YouTube series “Teppei Arita’s Pro Wrestling Stories [Omae Arita Daro!!]”. On September 30, he also held “Teppei Arita’s NTV Pro Wrestling Stories” at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo—known as the “sacred ground of pro wrestling.” Through these and other initiatives, he has actively contributed to the development of pro wrestling culture.

>With a background in student wrestling, Otani debuted in 2015 with Guts World, led by Mr. Gannosuke. After Guts World disbanded, he joined the pro wrestling HEAT-UP, represented by Kazuhiro Tamura, and was active there. However, in November of last year, he was stopped by police while walking with a female high school fan and arrested on suspicion of violating the Youth Healthy Development Ordinance. When this news was covered on television variety shows, Otani was suspended from the organization and faced criticism online and within the wrestling community.

>However, after an investigation, Otani was released within a few days without charges being filed, as no report of the crime had been filed in the first place. However, the news reports failed to mention the fact that he was not charged, that he was released within a few days, or that no report of the crime had been filed, and the public continued to think of him as an "arrested" wrestler, leading to him moving from one part-time job to another.

AJPW held their entry test for potential new young boys today. Nothing much was announced about it but interesting to see they had Hideki Suzuki as one of the people overseeing it so I'm hoping that means Suzuki's staying for awhile because I do think Suzuki and Shiozaki are two older hands that still move really well in the ring for their age.

>[GLEAT] CIMA and Ryo Aitaka to leave at year’s end; Kiyoshi Tamura and Masato Yoshino also step down as their contracts expire on New Year’s Eve

>On the 22nd, GLEAT announced that contracted wrestlers CIMA (48) and Ryo Aitaka (35) will leave the company when their contracts expire on December 31. It also announced that Executive Director Kiyoshi Tamura (56) and Commissioner Masato Yoshino (45) will step down as their contracts likewise expire on New Year’s Eve.

>CIMA, who was active as Dragon Gate’s ace, joined GLEAT in March 2021 after OWE and has taken the initiative within the promotion. He will now leave and continue as a freelancer. However, according to GLEAT, at CIMA’s request, the six events in November–December that he was unable to work due to surgery and rehabilitation will be carried over, with him scheduled to appear in 2026.

>Aitaka, a former K-1 fighter, began appearing for GLEAT as a pro wrestler in December 2023. He officially joined the company in October of last year, but will now leave because he plans to focus primarily on acting. He will continue wrestling as a freelancer and is also scheduled to work GLEAT events.

>After Tamura steps down as Executive Director and Yoshino steps down as Commissioner, there are currently no plans to appoint successors.

Hello /pw/
I am a filthy casual pro wrestling fan. I travel to Japan once a year and the last two trips I've made a point of seeing pw events in Tokyo, shit is so much fun. I've seen both Stardom and TJPW events. I'll be in Tokyo 22-25 Jan - looking at the puwota site I have quite a few options - happy for any suggestions! I'm partial to the women's but absolutely down for men's if any high calibre events are on the cards.

>[NOAH] BUSHI brings along “XXXX”? Appears at Korakuen: “You save the fun for New Year’s Day, right?”

>At NOAH’s Korakuen Hall show on the 23rd, BUSHI (42) of “Los Tranquilos de Japon (LTJ),” who is set to compete at the Nippon Budokan show on January 1, appeared at the venue.

>BUSHI showed himself after the 4th match, in which the scheduled opponents—the GHC Tag Team Champions Naomichi Marufuji & Kenoh—had competed. As Marufuji and Kenoh were receiving the winner’s call after defeating Hiroto Tsuruya & Aoi Takahashi, BUSHI appeared with someone who looked like “XXXX.”

>But something was off about that “XXXX.” He was being forcibly pulled along by BUSHI, stumbling forward weakly, and when Kenoh tore off the mask, the person revealed was the young wrestler Yuto Koyanagi. It seems he had been forced to wear the mask.

>Enraged, Kenoh shouted, “That’s totally different!” and then, “I know it. The X I’m thinking of absolutely loves surprises. X, you’re here somewhere, aren’t you?!” as he scanned the arena.

>And that opening was exactly what BUSHI exploited. He sprayed poison mist into Kenoh’s face, leaving him writhing, and said, “Hey, you sons of bitches. I’ll bring X with me, so follow me to the Nippon Budokan on January 1!” drawing boos. In the comment area as well, he wore a fearless grin and said, “You save the fun for New Year’s Day, right?”

>Outplayed, Kenoh muttered ominously: “Hey, nai… no, X! I know it. I know you love surprises…” Marufuji added, “You’d better come—BUSHI and X!”

>[ZERO1] Hayabusa & Jinsei Shinzaki set to face Junya Matsunaga & Tsugumune Sato in the Furinkazan tournament finals

>At Pro Wrestling ZERO1’s December 27 event at the Urayasu Oriental Hotel Tokyo Bay in Chiba, the finals of the “Furinkazan Tag Tournament 2025” will be held, with Hayabusa & Jinsei Shinzaki facing Junya Matsunaga & Tsugumune Sato.

>The “legendary immortal phoenix” entered the tournament as the team of Hayabusa—revived in honor of the late Eiji Ezaki—and his renowned partner Jinsei Shinzaki. In their first match they defeated Masato Tanaka & Van Veer Jack. In the semifinals at the December 20 Yokohama event, they faced Daichi Hashimoto & Yuya Aoki of BJW, and Hayabusa finished Aoki with a Firebird Splash to advance to the final.

>After that Yokohama match, the finalists traded words in the ring. Matsunaga provoked them, saying, “I know how great you guys are, but you’re already a thing of the past, aren’t you?” Hayabusa fired back, “Don’t think some young punk can beat the team of Jinsei Shinzaki and Hayabusa. Next week (the 27th), we’ll teach you.”

>Matsunaga is 29, yet Hayabusa called him a “young punk”—does that mean the revived Hayabusa is older than Matsunaga? With the vacant Intercontinental Tag Team titles also on the line in the final, Hayabusa and Shinzaki will be looking to use their “veteran presence” to claim the tournament victory and the belts.

>Also on the same show, the “Furinkazan” last-place match will see Tanaka & Jack vs. Yuko Miyamoto & Fuminori Abe.

>[NOAH] GHC Champion Yoshiki Inamura Furious at OZAWA: "I Want to 'Educate' Him at Budokan"

>NOAH GHC Heavyweight Champion Yoshiki Inamura (33) spoke about the reason for his anger toward OZAWA (29).

>Inamura will welcome OZAWA for his V2 defense on January 1st of next year at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan. Amidst this, he was enraged by OZAWA's rough fighting when they faced off in an impromptu 6-man tag team preview match on the 23rd at Korakuen. After the match, there was a scene where he attacked OZAWA with a demonic expression.

>Until now, Inamura had not gotten angry even after being repeatedly provoked on social media and elsewhere. His reasoning was: "What he was saying was less than 'Half' 'True.' That is why there was no reason for 'Me' to get angry." However, on the 23rd, he was furious. He confessed the reason: "It may be 'Me's' 'Selfish'... my own selfish wish, but I intended to send the message that 'you do not have to force yourself to do things that are 'Not Good'.' It was because that message did not reach him."

>Looking back on the 23rd, "I have been telling him all along that I want us to face each other 'Fair & Square.' To have that disregarded to such an extent made me 'Sad' and 'Angry'." Furthermore, at the press conference on the 26th, he snapped when 'Water' was poured over his head during the photo session, pushing him down and chasing after the fleeing OZAWA.

>Regarding this, he revealed that this too was anger coming from sadness: "The press conference was not just 'Trash Talk,' and I think there were parts that were hitting the 'Core.' That is why I thought that was fine. And yet, at the end, he showed childish emotions and poured 'Water' on me. That was 'Sad'..."

>With these thoughts in his heart, Inamura heads into the New Year's Day battle. "I want to 'Educate' him at Nippon Budokan. And 'Me' also wants to 'Show' the parts that have 'Changed'." Will Inamura's feelings reach OZAWA?

I started watching BJW this year, but I want to do a deep dive on it next year. I see they have a streaming service on their website and a streaming service on YouTube. Is one superior to the other? Any preferences for you BEEJers? Mind you, I'm especially interested in the archival aspect of it. I'll watch current shows but there's lots of classic stuff from the past I want to go through.

I loosely followed along with BJW last year and really enjoyed their non-deathmatch Gaijins that they brought in. Project Havoc in particular. Felt like they had to rely on different markets of wrestling than NJPW & NOAH who typically went for the usual crowd of North American, Mexican, UK & Australian indie wrestlers when it came to the gaijins they brought in. BJW didn't have that luxury (for non-deathmatch wrestlers) and you end up with some people you've really never heard of.

To my memory the streaming service is cheaper and has a bigger library than the Youtube. The Youtube sometimes has live shows before the streaming service but that's the only major perk. I'm not sure how much of the classic BJW stuff is on the streaming service but they have some of it on there.

AJPW is gambling by giving Kurama a chance but I can't blame them for taking the risk. The AJPW junior scene is good but it's also small. He was trained by the NOAH dojo and only 25. If he can keep his nose clean it's something they can make use of.

What's Jun's theme? Is AJPW still at the stage where they don't care for copyright and don't mute the themes on broadcast?

That is why Mexico and Japan still have some soul, copyright should go fuck itself until I make something that I can copyright.

Did their dad listen to this when they were kids?
>>

Far as I know they've never publicly discussed why the Saitos use it as a theme but their dad is American so it wouldn't surprise me if they heard him playing stuff like Dokken growing up
