The idea was that the violence was escalating to a point where even in this infamously violent gimmick match had to be stopped. It's not the worst idea, it was just held back by two factors. Firstly, everyone involved fucking sucks and is uncool. Seff and Bray are/were fucking uncool shitters. Bray more so the shitter and Seff more so uncool, but both lame. So they didn't sell it well. Second, they hotshotted the Fiend into the title picture too soon. They clearly weren't ready to put the strap on him yet, which is why they had to do the fuck finish. But they never should've been in that position to begin with; and it's the real reason why fans shit on it. They'll invent a bunch of stupid reasons, but really they just wanted to see Bray win.
