>mfw Tony knows more about the business than the pencil neck geeks of /pw/
>>19490856If only AEW was run by that Tony
>>19490856its insane that the geeks in aew understood how to retire a huge star infinitely better than triple nose and cena. going out on your back means literally nothing when everyone is smartened up to that aspect of the business and you spend 2 years telling everyone thats what youre gonna do. its self congratulatory masturbation for le putting the guy over on your way out. except you actually buried him and your product instead of letting cena win which would have made everyone happy and elevated gunther. hope le tradition of le business was worth killing your promotion
>>19490918>mfw Tony knows more about the business than this pencil neck geek
>>19490856>Tony knows more about the businessThen how come he can't keep talent?
>>19491028Or viewers?
>>19491036Or people coming to his shows?
>>19490856but the enlightened masses (lol) of the iwc have decided that good man win match because good man make feel goodit's a nuanced adult opinion one can only obtain by obsessing over wrestling so much that it works you daily
>>19490918So how did Sting winning his retirement match benefit AEW, in any way, at all?
>>19491049It sent the fans home happy and boosted the brand
>>19490918I think it's more telling about AEW and how much it relies on wrestlers nearing retirement for business. WWE can run these one-off specials for Goldberg and Cena and have them put over a current top guy without even featuring it on their weekly shows or typical ppvs. Meanwhile AEW needs to show older talent that if they come to the retirement home that is AEW they'll be treated like gods and prioritized over current talent because they have no actual star power within their current roster and need those older stars in order to have any kind of name value
>>19490918>retiring in a tag match against the bucks is a good thingWhy are Davey dickriders have such terrible opinions on wrestling?
>>19491054>and boosted the brandHow? They're literally doing the worst business they've ever doneSting took his ball and went home and with it he took 100,000 fans with him
>>19491054Boosted the brand? Tony openly admits last year was shit and this year is better. Not sure who he thinks he is fooling but still.
>>19491054did it really? how come they have lost half their audience since then?
>>19491063This minus the GMS grammar kek. The match hardly even featured Sting. It was more about jerking off Darby and the Bucks with Sting's name slapped on it to get people to watch. It did nothing for AEW and their tv ratings only went down afterwards
>>19490856This thread didn't go the way the Dublin simp wanted it to
>>19491054>boosted the brand
>>19490856didn’t James Gandolfin play some fag in a movie? lol
>>19491054>It sent the fans home happy Meaningless. Fans should go home wanting to see what comes next. Whether they're happy or not is irrelevant. >boosted the brandlolno. AEW's ratings immediately went down after Sting retired. It turns out a lot of people were actually watching for him and when he stopped wrestling they just left. Didn't matter that he won. Now AEW is failing to hit 500k half the time and doing a Rampage-tier key demo. "Boosted the brand" ahahahaha
Wins and losses don't matter in a post-kayfabe industry. Finisher spam does, though. I couldn't bring myself to care who would win after seeing so many kick outs of finishers. No one gets over by winning anymore, they get over by having a sing-along theme and a marketable catchphrase. Everyone knows it's bullshit and no one cares to pretend it's not anymore. They remind you at every step.
>>19491861>they get over by having a sing-along theme and a marketable catchphraseWelcome to fucking wrestling? When hasn't this been the case
>>19490856It's such a smark Al Snowian opinion.
>>19490856Yeah maybe in the 80s. And not when you retired, when you moved territories.
>>19491067185m a yearStreaming deal10+ shows over 10k this year (ahead of their previous record of 5)Stay mad
>>19492490>Barely scraping 500k most weeks for their A show>Key demo has fallen down to 0.03>Had to downsize arenas to make attendance look fuller>The downsized arenas are now also not selling>They've had to resort to weekly residencies at venues NXT uses for house shows>Regularly gets outperformed by NXT>Notable names leave the company including former world champions>Rampage gets canceled>Collision is now doing worse numbers than Rampage was when it was canceled>Attendance for All In once again halves>Tony Khan is exposed to trying to force an NDA on the entire whole ass state of Texas to hide their true attendance numbers>AEW is sued by a cameraman>Secret partial owners of the company are revealed to exist>AEW fans are revealed to be uh oh stinky>Events are constantly shifting their timeslots and dates to avoid going head to head with WWE>Tony Khan secures 2025 KWABOTY>WBD is up for sale and AEW is about to lose its streaming deal all of one year laterBut thank god Sting won a match
>>19492386I don't think anyone was even using music pre-80s let alone sing alongs. None of that happened until Vince. And to be fair, no one was singing Stone Cold's music (at all), then turning around and singing his heel opponent's music.
>>19493108>sing alongsWhat this really means is just catchy theme music. Which has always been around. If anything themes today as a whole are far less over than they've ever been to the point people are wishing WWE ousts Def Rebel. If you think crowds wouldn't be singing Real American or Ass Man if they were current themes as well then you're only kidding yourselfI can appreciate you realized that catchphrases wasn't even worth trying to argue
>>19490856It felt like it played off of WM22's finish. It isn't a wrong guy won scenario, it's that the finish was a wet fart. I'd rather Cena passed out and when they woke him up, he had amnesia and left bewildered because he didn't know how so many people knew his name.
>>19492590kek he had nothing for this
>>19493188You're ignoring everything prior to Hogan and moving the goal posts on music. You've already agreed that the crowds have changed from wrestling fans to Want To Be A Part Of The Show losers. We used to cheer for the babyface to win.
>>19492590All that parts
>boosted the brand>heel bookerIt's been a good week so far
>>19493954>You're ignoring everything prior to Hogan and moving the goal posts on music. No I'm not. Hogan didn't invent theme music anyway. Real American wasn't even made for him. If you're talking about before there even was theme music then no shit that wasn't part of wrestling yet. If you have to go back beyond 40 years to make your point though, your point probably isn't as good as you think it is
>>19492590Good lord
>>19493954>We used to cheer for the babyface to win.Meanwhile the entire world is having a shitfit because Gunther beat Cena is a fake pro wrestling match
>>19494032Not talking about Real American, Eye of the Tiger. You're ignoring over half of wrestling's history when your issue was>When hasn't this been the caseAnd the answer is for over half of wrestling's history.
>>19494175>And the answer is wrestling that happened before anyone on this board was even alive that I've never once seen a single match from but is what I have to cling to so I can pretend I'm right about some trivial bullshit on the internet
>>19490856The point of that scene was that Tony had to pretend he wasn't happy to hear the news
>>19491054kek this got the piggiEs squealing
>>19491707Yeah but it was a gangster fag.A Fagssassin you could say.
>>19490856I mean yeah Tony objectively knows more about the wrestling business than all of us, in the sense that he runs a big wrestling company and gets to hear all the secret insider stuff we don't hear. He probably knows where a lot of bodies are buried.
