>You know wrestling is fake, right? How do you respond without getting deported?
>>19491796>it’s not fake. it’s scripted entertainment like on of your favorite shows. The Big Bang Theory or How I Met Your Mother for examples.

>You think it's fake? <chuckle> A lot of people think so. And it's definitely scripted, I'll give you that. But fake? <dramatic pause> Let me tell you a little story, so you can see how fake it is. It's a story about a guy named Chris Benoit. Chris grew up in middle of nowhere Canada, barely tipped the scales at 150 in his teens, Five-foot-nothing. He was nothing. He was a nobody. But he made himself one of the best. Maybe THE best. And I'll tell you what was real. The thousands of hindu squats every day, that shredded his leg muscles until he pissed blood. The bruises the size of dinner plates, from getting thrown again and again on the floor of a frozen Calgary basement, a thin, worn mat the only thing covering the concrete foundation below. The needles he stuck into himself twice a day, pumping his body full of deadly chemicals just so he could get big enough to get a second look from promoters. There was nothing fake about that -- and that was just to get in the door. Once he was there, it got worse. There was nothing fake about his skull crashing down on another man's skull from 15 feet in the air, the thud so sickeningly loud that it could be heard from the last row of the arena. Nothing fake about the steel chairs that cracked him in the head so hard that he saw double for weeks at a time. Nothing fake about the broken neck that left him inches away from permanent paralysis. And you know what, officer? On that day in late June, there was nothing fake about the deafening silence in that suburban Atlanta home. There was nothing fake about the dogs barking for hours, scratching their paws bloody at the gate of the pool area. And there was nothing -- NOTHING -- fake about the bodies: 3 of them, scattered all throughout the house, a shattered family that was left now as nothing more than an empty memorial to the "fakeness" of pro-wrestling. So "scripted," officer? Yeah, it's definitely scripted. But professional wrestling is *deadly* real.

>Oh you wanna know if I know it’s fake?>You really wanna ask me that while I’m standing here with my bags zip-tied like I’m jobbing on Main Event?>Yeah. I know it’s scripted.>Just like your press conferences.>Just like your talking points.>Just like the “we’re just following procedure” promo you cut every single day.>But here’s the difference, champ:>When wrestling tells a story, it admits it’s a story.>It doesn’t hide behind a badge and call it destiny.>Wrestling is Shakespeare in boots.>It’s modern myth.>It’s good versus evil, order versus chaos, the underdog getting one last comeback when the odds are stacked higher than a ladder match at WrestleMania.>You think I didn’t know it was fake when I watched Mick Foley fall off the cell?>Tell that to his teeth.>Tell that to his body.>Tell that to every wrestler who limps into retirement so some kid in the crowd can believe, just for one night, that heart beats power.>Wrestling taught me that the world is unfair and you still fight.>That sometimes the authority figure is wrong.>That the deck is stacked, the ref is crooked, and you still kick out at two.>So mock me all you want.>Say it’s fake. Say it’s stupid. Say it’s just grown men in tights.>But when the bell rings, wrestling is about dignity.>About choosing who you are when the script isn’t kind to you.>And right now?>I’m the underdog.>You’re the faceless authority.>History says I’m supposed to lose this match.>But remember something:>The crowd always remembers the ones who stood tall, even when they were booked to fall.>And whether you like it or not:>THAT’S REAL TO ME.
