Sometimes it feels like who wins or loses a match is picked out of a hat.
MVL beat God's Eye twice in a row 5v5 and then lost to them in a trios match where Matoi was on GE's team.

What shouldn't be understated it the fact that Sareee, without having any company backing her, won the Fighting Spirit award

In other words, she got an award, because the people voting actually believed she deserved it rather than because he is backed by a company, who put pressure on ToSpo

Between that and Saya being so undeniable that ToSpo couldn't be sexism, it is a great day for Joshi

Saya Kamitani has won the 2025 Tokyo Sports Grand Prize MVP award.

She makes major history with the win — becoming the first woman to ever win the award, which dates back to 1974. Her win also marks the first time a non-NJPW wrestler has won since 2010.

Incredible.

Sareee also continues to make history as a freelancer.

She has won the 2025 Tokyo Sports Fighting Spirit award, becoming the first woman to ever win that award which dates back to 1974.

It’s her second straight year of winning a Tokyo Sports award, and accomplishes the feat as a freelancer.

“The Sun God” doesn’t stop making history.

>[Pro Wrestling Awards] Stardom's Saya Kamitani makes history! First female MVP: "Well, that's only natural!"

>The Queen is Born! The selection committee for the 52nd annual "Tokyo Sports 2025 Pro Wrestling Awards, supported by Nitan Clinic," was held on the 16th at the Tokyo Sports newspaper office in Koto Ward, Tokyo, and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award was awarded to Saya Kamitani (29) of Stardom, the first time she has received the award. This is the first time a female wrestler has received this award. She also won the Women's Pro Wrestling Grand Prix. The evil queen who changed the history of the Pro Wrestling Grand Prix for over half a century exploded with joy. The awards ceremony will be held at a hotel in Tokyo on January 7th next year.

>The five wrestlers nominated for MVP by the selection committee were Hiroshi Tanahashi of New Japan Pro-Wrestling, Hirooki Goto, KONOSUKE TAKESHITA from DDT, AEW and New Japan, and OZAWA from Noah. In the first round of voting, Kamitani received 11 votes, the majority, and was declared the winner of the award for the first time.

>This year marks the birth of Japan's first female Prime Minister, and it's also the year that a woman has achieved the remarkable feat of rising to the top of the wrestling world. Appearing with eight roses in hand, Kamitani boasted, "Of course, it's only natural that Saya-sama would win MVP!" She continued, "I've never given up, I've found light in professional wrestling, and I've come this far. Reaching the pinnacle of the wrestling world today has not only rewarded my career as a professional wrestler, but also the 29 years of my life as Saya Kamitani."
>>
>>
>>19499402
That is a man
>>
>>19499414
>In December of last year, she was crowned the world champion, the highest title in the organization, for the first time. While defending the title seven times, she also won the New Japan Strong Women's Championship in September, becoming a double champion. She became a hot topic in the media, promoting professional wrestling to the public. In July of this year, Kamitani became the first woman to win the Pro Wrestling Grand Prix MVP award, and she didn't even look at the Women's Pro Wrestling Grand Prix, but instead focused on professional wrestling and fought to change history.

>"It's obvious to everyone that Saya-sama would win the Women's Pro Wrestling Grand Prize. If she hadn't, there wouldn't have been any buzz, right? I thought it would be better for the world of pro wrestling if she won the MVP, so I started saying it. Also, of course I wanted to accomplish something that no one had ever done before, but when Saya-sama became a heel, I wanted to silence the people who said, 'You're not cut out to be a heel,'. I'm sure people won't be able to take their eyes off Saya-sama, who has such an overwhelming presence," she says with a hearty laugh.

>When asked who she would like to share her award with, she mentioned her family, and Tam Nakano, with whom she fought fiercely in a "loser's retirement match" to defend her World Championship on April 27th. "At first, my mother was against me becoming a professional wrestler, so we fought every day. But now she wholeheartedly supports me as I wear the belt and compete in big venues. I feel like today is the best day I could have done to show my appreciation to my parents. And it's all thanks to Tam Nakano that I've been able to work so hard. Because I carry Tam Nakano's professional wrestling career on my shoulders, I've been able to work hard both inside and outside the ring, and she's always been there to push me forward. I hope that this award reaches her," she said, narrowing her eyes.

>At the Ryogoku Kokugikan event on the 29th, she will face Saori Anou in a World Championship V8 match. And at the New Japan Tokyo Dome event on January 4th next year, she will face off against IWGP Women's Champion Syuri in a double title match for the Strong Women's Championship. "I'm in the best condition and with the best career of my professional wrestling career so far. To be honest, I don't feel like I can lose to anyone. As long as Saya-sama is at the top of Stardom, I'm safe," she said enthusiastically.

>"The Pro Wrestling Awards has a 52-year history, and until now, only the men's wrestling has been in the spotlight. But Saya-sama becoming MVP has shattered all stereotypes. From here on out, Saya-sama will take pro wrestling to the mainstream scene and take it to places no one could have imagined."

Today is, without a doubt, one of the biggest and most important Joshi has ever had.

For Saya Kamitani to win the Tokyo Sports MVP is an unbelievable accomplishment, one that even when it felt like she was the runaway favorite, felt would be taken away from her. She led the hottest company in Japan, and she’s been awarded the award she deserved.

It didn’t stop there, thankfully. Sareee winning the Fighting Spirit Award further proved Joshi ran the year, as the trend has been the last few, and it now shows by the voters. Doing it as a freelancer is all the more incredible.

I desperately hope this is the start of a new trend, rather than a one time thing that they feel the need to “fix” in the future.

Joshi wrestling is incredible. It’s the best wrestling in the world. And I’m beyond happy to see awards like this reflect that.

>>
>The reason for this year's MVP selection was reported to be, "Not only were they recognized for their results in the ring, but also for their contributions to the industry, such as spreading the appeal of professional wrestling nationwide through the media and bringing the fun of professional wrestling to people who aren't fans."

>In response, Kamitani said, "This time, I've become the first woman in the 52-year history of the Pro Wrestling Grand Prix to receive the MVP award. Well, it's only natural for Saya-sama, right? It all started with her winning the red belt at the end of last year, then in April there was a loser's retirement match, and in September women's professional wrestling was broadcast live on terrestrial television for the first time in 23 years. And this year, Saya-sama has set a goal for herself. I want people who haven't seen it yet to get to know her. I want to appear in various media. I think I've been able to completely change the image of women's professional wrestling, which has been stuck in the past."

>She continued, "Really, for the past year, I've thought about nothing but pro wrestling every day. Now that it's all taking shape like this, I'm truly glad that no matter what happened, I didn't run away and continued to face myself to the fullest. But Saya-sama isn't satisfied with this, so I still have many more ambitions and I want to show you things you've never seen before. I want to bring pro wrestling even further into the mainstream scene and take it to greater heights. Pro wrestling used to be something that was only for men, but I think I've been able to break down that wall. I believe the potential for women is limitless from here on out, so Saya-sama will show you, so all of you, keep your eyes on Saya-sama!" she declared forcefully.
>>
>>19499581
>In response to concerns about burnout after achieving such a big goal, she firmly stated, "There were several moments when I felt like I was on edge at each milestone. For example, my retirement match was a turning point, like finishing something big. Also, I was able to visibly show my wrestling to the world, and I felt a little like I was on edge. But as things stand, it's so much fun to see my dreams come true so visibly. I have so many big dreams, like the Tokyo Dome right in front of me, and saying that I'd become MVP has given me even more motivation. I'm not going to burn out."

>Meanwhile, in response to a question about romance, she shyly revealed, "Well, I guess that's true... When Saya-sama goes into evil maiden mode, I want to fall in love, but it's a little... (laughs). Maybe next year or later. This year was so busy that I couldn't."

>When asked who she would like to share this achievement with, she said, "First of all, my parents, and then Tam Nakano. As for my parents, they've been the closest to me in my life, having danced and been an idol up until now. When I first started wrestling, my parents were very against it, but as time went on, they started to watch me and support me, so I think that's the greatest way to show my filial piety." She added, "Tam Nakano has really been my driving force this year, and because I carry Tam Nakano's wrestling career on my shoulders, she's always been there to push me forward both inside and outside the ring. She really made me realize how much working hard for others motivates me. I don't think I would be who I am today without Tam Nakano, and she's the one who inspired me to start wrestling, so I want to tell her that I won MVP."

>She also touched on her feelings towards the show, saying, "As for 'Oni Renchan,' it was the show that got me a huge response when I first appeared in the media after becoming a heel wrestler, and I still appear on 'Love it!' regularly, and we even go out to eat together privately, so we're really close friends. I can't wait to tell everyone in the 'Love it!' family that I've won. I'm really filled with gratitude," she said with shining eyes.

>Her future goals are also clear, saying, "The Tokyo Dome is one thing, and it's a really big event, so I think I'll have a say in it if I win MVP this time," before going on to declare, "I want to make Stardom the number one organization in the pro wrestling industry."

Sareee has strong feelings about the IWGP Women’s Championship, which she lost to Syuri:

>“Having lost my singles belt and being in a state of having nothing, I absolutely want to win the belt again. The belt makes me stronger and gives me confidence. As long as I’m a pro wrestler, I always want to have a singles belt around my waist, so I’m definitely going after it again.”

>>
>>19500051
She's kinda screwed either way because Mayu will win the belt next month and whoever is the IWGP champion after WK will likely keep the belt for a while. The only way for her to win GHC is to have Iroha retain.

>Congratulations, Kamiya-san.
>For the time being, setting aside the misdeeds inside and outside the ring, I believe those misdeeds were not intended to deny others, but rather stemmed from a desire for one's own glory, for stardom beyond that, and for the sake of the industry.

>Performance in the ring is a major prerequisite. The process leading up to that, impressions on SNS and online media, appearances on terrestrial TV and pro wrestling live broadcasts. Contribution to the organization, contribution to the industry. Versatility in all directions.

>I have all sorts of feelings, so I’d like to share them with you again somewhere down the line, but above all, thank you so much to player Uetani and everyone who supports Stardom. 2025 isn’t over yet! Ryogoku is still ahead, and I look forward to your continued support for Stardom as it soars even higher in 2026.

SAYA KAMITANI: THE HISTORIC MVP YEAR OF "THE PHENEX QUEEN"

Saya Kamitani has won the Tokyo Sports MVP, and it's time to dive into her year that made her the undeniable winner!

>This year, Saya Kamitani, who has been on a roll at STARDOM and is currently the double champion, is said to be the one to be selected for the Pro Wrestling Grand Prix, including the men's category.

>Regarding this, Representative Ogawa said, "I think it's good for a woman to win," but added, "I wonder if (Kamitani) is up to that level."

>The reason is, "In the past, when Hokuto Akira and Crush Gals were in the industry, they never won (the Pro Wrestling Grand Prize, which includes men's wrestling). They went beyond the industry and even beyond, but they still didn't win. Saya Kamitani may be appearing on terrestrial TV programs now, but I don't know if she will continue to do so in the future. Crush Gals were on every day."

>Furthermore, Ogawa said, "In that regard, we need to set a certain bar. Because if we can win this, it will seem like the bar is low (compared to before). We should start with the Women's Pro-Wrestling Grand Prix. I think that's a bit of a leap. Because we haven't changed the world yet. So I think it's all about what happens in the future." He added that in order to overturn precedent, the condition is to achieve even greater success than in the past.
