On the latest episode of his My World podcast, Jarrett went scorched earth over WWE’s decision to have Cena tap out to Gunther in his farewell bout at Saturday Night’s Main Event. In Jarrett’s words, “It was the single dumbest finish in the history of the business.” Jarrett wasn’t subtle about where he stands on the long-held tradition of veterans “going out on their back.”>“That time-honored tradition… that is the biggest bunch of bullshit I’ve ever heard,” he said. “It almost goes against the grain of every territory, and really even in through Hulkamania days and the 90s… what do you do to a legend? You protect them.”He also blasted WWE for devaluing its biggest draw, pointing out how fans paid top dollar just to see Cena — not the undercard, not the brand. For Jarrett, the biggest problem wasn’t just the loss — it was the way it clashed with Cena’s entire legacy.>“The most important or valuable customers that paid, on average, 850 bucks for one guy… they weren’t there to see anything other than John Cena’s last match.”>“Why do I think it was the single dumbest finish? Because I think it is a direct slap in the face of the face of our industry. Never give up,” Jarrett argued. “You’re gonna get this bullshit that we got to get heat on a heel in a time-honored tradition? Conrad, it’s the silliest, most ridiculous argument that people are throwing up.”Jarrett even suggested that the post-match heat missed its mark entirely.>“Gunther, he got some heat. There’s no doubt about it… But when Hunter came through the curtain… and they booed the shit out of him, it’s almost as if, like, he got that ref heat. And ref heat don’t draw money. It never have and never will.”This wasn’t just a typical shoot — Jarrett made it clear he sees this as a fundamental creative failure.https://www.ringsidenews.com/john-cenas-final-wwe-match-finish-called-single-dumbest-wrestling-history/
Nobody ever bought a ticket to see this nepo baby.
>>19499277and i mean folks
>It was the single dumbest finish in the history of the business
That was the right finish. The problem was Cena not cutting a promo after and Triple Nose coming out immediately after.
>>19499277hahahahaha strange bedfellows are the iwc and fucking jeff jarrett>see who's shitting on this?! the man we've shit on for decades as detrimental to the entire idea of televised wrestling; yes - this man has a respectable opinion now and not just because he agrees with me!
>>19499277kek what a irrelevant crying mark
>>19499277This is peak comedy
>>19499277>Cena is about to tap>Fans Hulk him up>Cena selling how hurt he is>Gunther starts chopping>Chops bring Cena to one knee>Gunther screaming "Your time is UP! My time is NOW!">Classic Hogan mode engaged>Chops have no effect >Cena just walking through them>5 moves of Doom>beats Gunther into corner>punching and stomping for all he's worth>Gets Gunther of second rope>Super AA>Pin>Afterward collapses from effort exhausted>Crowd roaring ring announcer declaring winner>ref checking on Cena>background Gunther crawling up>Enraged at losing>Throws ref off>Starts putting boots to Cena>"I will end you, one way or another!">Powerbombs Cena>Cena weakly trying to protect himself >Gunther gets chair>Orton music hits>Runs to ring to protect Cena>"You can't stop this" Gunther>"I didn't come alone." Orton >Lockerroom empties>It's everybody, babyface, and even heels>Rush the ring >Get between Cena and Gunther>Start jumping Gunther>Cena stops them>"No. Let him leave.">They stop and Gunther is pissed, passing them and eyeing Cena. All the talent cursing him.>"I'm going to remember this Cena. And you. All of you. I'll remember this too."There. You have Cena win and the lose is the catalyst for Gunther to go mega heel on everyone.
>>19499277JJ with the win>>19499485There you go. Very well put. Simple as fuck. The crowd would have gone absolutely apeshit.
>>19499277He's really upset that Tony cancelled his retirement tour isn't he?
>>19499277based double j don't miss
>>19499277DOUBLE J JEFF JARRETT
>>19499485would have been far better than what they did
>>19499485TKO should replaced HHH with you and your friend Mark
>>19499485Oh... Oh-ho my God. This is like, literal fucking Avengers tier. This is epicsauce.
>>19499277Jeff is a literal mark who is sad that his favorite wrestler lost.
Jarrett was always an instant channel changer for me when he was in WWE. His saving grace was attaching a big boob bimbo with him.
>>19499277Jeff Jarrett, the guy who had to start his own wrestling fed to get over.
I like Jeff but didn't he announce some sort of retirement run and then disappear off of television for 6 months?
He would say that
>>19499277Kek worked
>>19499277I love Jeff Jarrett. In a sea of Jeff Jarrett haters I've always been a fan. That said, this man has fewer legs to stand on than a swine on wheels when it comes to this subject given TNA
>>19499589THAT'S J-E-DOUBLE F, J-A-DOUBLE-R, E-DOUBLE-T DOUBLE J JEFF JARRETT!
>>19499277Jarrett got worked. But he is 100% correct
>>19499485Pure unadulterated cringe
>>19499485this some Marvel ass ahhhh
>>19499434I doubt anyone on /pw/ actually respects Jarrett's opinion. He's one of the biggest lolcows in wrestling. The truth is Jarrett is far more responsible for killing WCW than David Arquette or Hulk Hogan or Kevin Nash. Everyone knew Arquette was just a gimmick win. But when Jarrett--obnoxious WWF midcarder with a goofy gimmick that got jobbed to a woman--became WCW world champion, fans couldn't buy it. It was a colossal misstep. I remember clearly the reaction to it back then. WCW had so many stars yet they kept this fucking loser in the main event scene, holding the title hostage, and it just fucked up the whole show. Then early TNA did the same fucking shit.Anyway, I thought the finish to Cena/Gunther was stupid as well. But it's not the dumbest finish in the business, not by a long shot. And I don't give a fuck if Jarrett agrees or disagrees with me. His opinion is irrelevant.
There's no one on earth that gives a fuck what this self-mark thinks. Worked by our heel booker.
>>19500201this is silly, WCW died because of a corporate merger, blaming it on jeff jarrett of all people is completely unwarranted. Yeah let's just blame everyone except the corporate heebs who actually pulled the plug, that's real smart.
>>19500372nta but he said more responsible compared to the others he named, but thanks for barging in without nuance you autistalso if you want to be super anal (gross) about it, vince winning the lawsuit with one of the conditions being he gets first shot at wcw if a sale were to happen is the killshot - a sale elsewhere could've been a real rebrand but wwe buying it was it, if i remember correctly wwe tried but couldn't get a tv deal for wcw off the ground at all because to outsiders it was just another wwe show whereas to their own networks they wouldn't let them air competition to their own shows
>>19500646Exactly. It's this. Vince was able to buy WCW for far below its value because of that deal. That other anon was almost certainly not old enough, or even alive, to remember how negatively Jarrett's main event run was perceived anyway.
>>19499382>That was the right finish.what difference would it have made if cena won? none
>>19499277Who cares what this retard has to say about anything, ever
>>19499277Based Double J shooting on backstage "producers" and gaitch who never drew a dime
>>19503283He's drawn more dimes than this nepobaby company killing bitch
