>does irreversible damage to pro wrestling
>>19532514nobody watched chikara but the smelliest most niche smarks
>>19532517>niche smarks>>19532514>irreversible damage
>>19532514Mike Quackenbush runs an online wrestling school with a total of 20 members paying him, irreversible damage indeed
>>19532525yeah, niche smarks that's what I said
>>19532541>Mike Quackenbushgay
>>19532545agreed
>>19532517You're thinking of PWG. Chikara was for families.
>>19532555i don't think they were the ones talking about it on the internet but fair enough maybe half the average crowd of 10 was children
>>19532564They literally banned cursing at their shows and threw people out for swearing.
>>19532571motherfucker, i'm talking about the goddamn iwc chikara fans not quackenbush's policies
>>19532514Thats not ECW
>>19532514Chikara was based until the shut down. It was never the same after coming back.
>>19532514The BDK angle was incredibly based.
OP here, sorry wrong image
The first three horsemen of ruining wrestling are PWG, Michaels/Taker and Scott Keith. The fourth is yet to be decided.
>>19532572saar you will behave itt
>>19532631I never got it. The skinny mask guys, the supposed deep lore based long term storytelling the fans would talk about, the whole vibe. I just never got i.
>>19533422fair enough I was being a dick
>>19533417What did Scott do that any other smark writer didn't?
>>19533417Kek, I'm sure Super Dragon would be flattered af to be grouped with taker and Shawn
>>19533437SUPER DRAGONSUPER DRAGON
>>19532525
>>19533427I loved the "Previously on Chikara" videos they did summing up the storieshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZcimoQO8bchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTJjKGN3M4Q
>>19532514OP here, sorry meant AEW
>>19533427It was fun and it felt like you were being rewarded for actually following even though I assume a lot of the BDK build up is only an in retrospect kind of thing where Quack was able to make a connecting thread between previously disparate stories. There were good wrestlers and the colorful cartoony gimmicks and goofy shit like Lance Steel's tag team partner being a time travelling version of himself stood out in a time where the indies were super serious guys in kickpads and trashbag pants. Similar reason as to why pre-super indy PWG is way better than the Meltzerslop it turned into because all their guys retired and then Super Dragon got sawdusted.Chikara eventually got up its own ass after the shutdown but prior to that point it was enjoyable.
>>19533505I think I saw couple of wild matches on the /woo/ best matches list they had, but not with Quackenbush's dudes. I think Danielson was in one, some kind of four way.
>>19533427Chikara was just fun. It wasn't overproduced WWE stuff, it wasn't TNA who was so desperate to be WWE, it wasn't serious indy wrestling like ROH, a superindie like PWG or deathmatch stuff like CZW.Chikara was just fun, you had storylines to follow and engaging characters, there were always promo's throughout the show to put over the characters. Personally I didn't mind the no swearing rule >>19532571 imo that's fine if you promote your show as being family friendly, don't want some sweaty CZW/ROH/PWG marks chanting holy shit at every other spot.
>>19532514Chikara means Chicago in Japanese
>>19533572Yeah the no swearing thing is based if you're trying to sell tickets to families regularly. Only a drunk dickhead would keep doing it too if they threatened to boot his ass anyway.
>>19533505I liked the last major storyline they were doing but it was up it's own ass when you have to find 2 ARG youtube accounts in order to get information about it, both of which had view counts in the triple digits only
>>19533417Scott Keith is actually still going but it's actually crazy how his reviews have so little traction outside his website considering how long he's been going
Is Power Pro Lucha worth watching? Was a Chikara mark back in the day and wasn't sure if this captured the feeling
>>19533701Does
>>19532514I HATE LUCHA ROPES
My friend and I saw Eddie Kingston eating at a Burger King a couple hours before a Chikara show. When we walked past my friend said "Eddddddiee!". He didn't even look up and made a hand wave motion like "keep it moving". It was pretty based.
>>19533649At least Herb Kunze knew when to hang it up
only woooditors defend this trash
>>19533961We defend the wrestlers we don't watch this
>>19533649I've read Scott for twenty years now. I like his writing style and for the most part he had good taste in wrestling. I kind of wish he would review more niche stuff like old ROH or 90s indy schlock and not just WWF Superstars.
>>19533771lmao letting yourself get disrespected by an irrelevant fatass
true but I loved it from 2007 to the shutdown
>>19533771You think that's bad? I was at a Chikara show and he made me spill my nachos on myself and then called me "cheesy tits" and laughed about it. Eddie Kingston is a fucking piece of shit and I'm glad Chikara's dead where they enabled it
>>19536063kek what a cheesy titted BITCH
I wish other bookers could book as well as Quack could. His tournament booking was second to none. Challenge of the Immortals was damn near perfect.
>>19532555Chikara was for families so all the pedophile wrestlers could prey on children.
>>19536370so that's why HHH increased ticket prices
>>19532514Chikara gave us Sweet N' Sour Larry Sweeney. That alone offsets whatever damage it may have caused. 12 large, brother.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBDWK0d-UJ4
>>19533564IMO the Eddie Kingston vs. Tim Donst match from 2007 is a really good underdog rookie vs. bullying veteran style match where Kingston beats the shit out of Donst. Also from back before Kingston was a broken down old man when his gimmick was that he was a violent asshole instead of a guy doing bad AJPW tribues.>>19533635I think the Crucible storyline could have been good but yeah. 2011/2012 was their high point but I think Quack didn't really know what to do with the BDK after a point, especially as it kept losing members for various reasons. Then the shutdown killed any momentum it had and when it came back it didn't have the same juice. Turning Hallowicked heel didn't really work IMO and then making the main event scene revolve so much around fucking JFDC despite the fact he was a giant shitter (and pedo) simply because nobody was ever going ot hire him away ala Justin Credible in ECW.
>>19536509kingston vs shane storm was similar. the blood through the mask was kino
King of Trios was based
Honestly, there are a lot more chikara alums that made it to television than I ever would have thought 15 years ago.
>>19536063cheddar chestbrie breastsmozzarella mammariesgorgonzola gamsKek what a cheesy tit bitch.
>>19532517And who do you think is in the ring now?
>>19533417Who the fuck is Scott Keith?
>>19536931The guys who watched PWG
>>19536931and ROH too can't forget them
>>19533253this looks like a tiktok dance lol
Chikara should be on some AEW streaming website like Wrestle Universe if it ever happens.
>>19533253From what I've read about the angle, it sounds like it was pretty goated for a while. Did Claudio get signed or something which hurt how it played out?
>>19536978It's on IWTV but I think some of the early years are missing shows.
>>19536387This tidbit is hilarious to me
>>19536387There's a timeline where Larry and the kings of wrestling help usher in NXT's best tag team era, and we get him and Enzo doing promo battles on main roster. Sigh
>>19536387He killed himself at my local wrestling school. Does anyone have a link to his old forum posts? They were godtier rants
>>19537078Basically they were the main heel group for 2010, started losing a bit at the end of the year but not to the point where they were worse off. They just had a lot of shit go wrong in 2011 with Claudio (the top heel) getting signed by WWE, Daizee Haze retiring because of her eating disorder, plus Lince getting fired or no showing and Pinkie Sanchez quitting for whatever reason. Also Sara del Rey kayfabe quitting the group and turning face after beating Claudio in Claudio's last match (and then going to WWE as a trainer and retiring the next year). So by like the fall of 2011 the only people left in the group were Ares (Claudio's Jannetty), Tim Donst, Jakob Hammermeier (ring announcer turned low card wrestler) and Tursas (big guy). Nobody gave a shit about Ares, Tursas had a Lex vs. Yokozuna angle with Green Ant and was effectively retired by the end of the year and the group just kind of quietly died when Donst left it. They tried bringing it back a couple of times but it didn't tae.
>>19537126That's fucking morbid damn. What would he rant about, the indie scene?
