It was a short reign, but it was a fantastic reign that reestablished Ilja as one of the best wrestlers in the world, and it set Carmelo up for success. I look forward to seeing what's next for both of them.

ilja was just truly starting to get over near the end of this so i'm not crazy that they took it off him. i also dislike melo more and more by the week so it's a double gut punch. they better have something especially good for ilja coming up, and i hope that melo having the title is just a vehicle for trick to get it soon.i'm not sure if they move ilja up the card. i don't think they'll put him in the world title scene until gunther has another reign, which could happen as early as next year, but not in the immediate future. if they try to make him feud with ciampa or tama, all the momentum he built will be completely flushed down the toilet.for melo, he's seemingly going to feud with gargano, so it turns out HHH actually is racist and was just playing the long game (based). he can't really continue the open challenge. together sami and ilja ran through like 85% of the low-mid carders that would challenge for it already. and not everyone can do the same gimmick, you gotta save the open challenge series, don't let it get stale or played out by letting everyone do one.
