Instead of retiring it why not use it for its original purpose. Which was to elevate midcard guys? That was one of the surefire oaths to the top of the card. It set you apart from the other undercard guys and signaled that you were either on your way up or down the card

What fans did that service? This is the point of what I was trying to say. Everytime you use the belt against its purpose you confuse what it’s for. It’s a prop, yes? So there should be a reason for it. You muddle it by doing shit like that.
For what? A pop you would have gotten anyway? If it has no real meaning it’s just something shiny to walk out with, interchangeable form the other dozen pieces of ugly shit they have now. I’m not sure how I feel about Gunther holding it for that long. Was it necessary to move him up or was chasing the record its own sort of gimmick. For every Gunther or Dom in recent memory there’s a 45 year old Jeff Hardy or Sami Zayn getting it for his 10th time.

The belt should strictly be for the upper tier of the midcard. Same pathway as a guy winning his first Rumble, Briefcase or Elimination chamber. Maybe even have some sort of gimmick where a dozen defenses gets you a guaranteed title shot. Sort of cashing it in. That image of Warrior holding both belts at Mania is iconic. Or lose the U.S. title and bring back the euro title and make it so if you become Eurocontinental champ you can relinquish both belts for a guaranteed PPV headline at clash of the champions or something. Give it a well defined purpose.
