Looking back, this was a bad idea

I guess but it didn't really matter, the nwa belt was already worthless

It only looks worse in hindsight because of the last several decades of WWE whoring out their own fake historical lineage and never moving on from the past.
From a modern perspective it looks like trashy indie shitters burying a trademark with valuable history to pop the smarks but that historical shit didn't matter to the market before WWE started doing DVD documentaries. This was good because it kickstarted the industry moving the fuck on and trying something fresh.
>but they devalued a prop and now some jew 30 years later can't make as much money off selling nostalgic replicas

he’s pretty cute for a ecw reject

You know absolutely nothing at all, it’s mind boggling how wrong you could be on literally every aspect.

Nah it was a great idea. The NWA was dead. The belt was just a prop and all the men who held it would laugh in your face for treating it as anything but a prop. Douglas basically declared the attitude era in 1994 and it took WWF and WCW a couple of years to catch on.

The NWA was a rotting corpse and most of what Douglas said was objective truth. As little as the NWA means today it actually meant even less at that time. There was nothing. Go ahead and try to find another title change or promo or anything that was even recorded involving that belt in the year before this happened. Or try looking up the guys who held it that don't have a Wikipedia page or even a picture you can find with a search engine. I doubt anyone in this thread could even actually name another company that was a member of the NWA at that point. The only people who would have given a shit about the NWA belt were just watching WCW where all the guys who actually made it prestigious were wrestling.

If ECW had kept themselves tied to it they wouldn't have done most of the stuff that people actually like and remember and they would have died off as another bullshit local territory all the same. They would have never gotten on PPV or had their own TV deal or anything, they would have probably meant less in the long run than Smokey Mountain Wrestling and people only even know that shit existed because of Jim Cornette's podcast.
