Then think about how many more there must have been who never got caught and never got discovered. Then think about that number and how much bigger the number of dudes who just killed one or two people or just beat the living shit out of people and got away with it would be.
The vast majority of Haku stories are totally believeable, because the vast majority of them are "some belligerently drunk guys in a bar thought he looked tough and wanted to start shit with him then ran away after he, much less drunk, in some way mutilated one of them."
