>[NOAH] OZAWA reveals the reason for his loss in the “New Year showdown” — reflects on “self-preservation”: “I sold my investment trust”>NOAH’s “The Real Rebel,” OZAWA (29), speaks about the unexpected reason for his loss in the “New Year showdown,” and also fires off a big-mouthed tirade ahead of his singles match with Tetsuya Endo (11th, Korakuen Hall, Tokyo). Even with the year turned, this man is still doing whatever he wants, and he doesn’t look like he’s going to slow down at all.>After defeating Kaito Kiyomiya on January 1 last year to win the GHC Heavyweight title for the first time, OZAWA challenged Yoshiki Inamura (Aiki Inamura, 33) at the Nippon Budokan show exactly one year later on the 1st. But Inamura’s monstrous strength prevented a repeat of last year, and OZAWA failed to regain the belt.>As for the reason for the loss, he offered an unusually humble take: “I don’t know… I guess over the past year I ended up with more things I needed to protect, and there was a part of me that went into self-preservation.” With a sigh, he looked back: “Yeah, I’ve reflected on it… My foot was hurting too, and it felt like I had this brake inside me, like I was holding myself back…”>So what, specifically, did he do that counted as “self-preservation”? OZAWA confessed that he’d bought an investment trust: “With the new NISA, I bought ‘eMAXIS NASDAQ100.’” Then he declared, “Yeah, I’ve got to admit I was personally leaning into self-preservation. So I already sold the investment trust. You can’t go into self-preservation even with investing—so from here on out, I’m going to stick to keirin, pachinko, and pachislot.”
>>19649914>The reborn OZAWA’s next opponent is Endo. After OZAWA forced castella into his mouth in a six-man tag match on December 23, this matchup was set. About that, he played dumb: “It’s like the card got decided all of a sudden, huh.” Then, in one smooth stream of trash talk, he continued: “Tetsuya Endo came to NOAH from DDT last year, and this year he’s staying on again, right? He’s totally been tossed out by DDT. Does he not have a place to belong? He bounces from unit to unit…”>Asked about his motivation, for some reason he sent Endo encouragement: “I want him to do his best so that he can decide the direction of his whole year right here.” He even added, “I hope he can get something out of it through a match with me. I want to do it with the intention of lending him my chest,” he said brazenly. His outlandish behavior looks set to stir up the mat world again this year.https://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/articles/-/373035

>>19654357Yeah It was something along the lines of him having a "breach of contract". Last time it was Sb Kento and Takuma Fujiwara Who liked to smoke weed in Mexico. But most likely because Gleat tried to negotiate with him while he was still locked into his DG contract.
Wonder if Naito will make a new finisher since he physically can't do the Destino anymore.

https://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/articles/-/373153>We will not disband.” GLEAT President Hiroyuki Suzuki spoke in an interview about the future of the promotion.>Last year, GLEAT was hit by a series of incidents and unsettling developments, culminating in a “wave of departures” at the end of the year. Wrestlers CIMA and Ryo Aitaka left the roster, while Executive Director Kiyoshi Tamura and Commissioner Masato Yoshino departed from the front office. These exits sparked concerns about the promotion’s survival, but Suzuki responded forcefully: “I have absolutely no intention of quitting.” He continued, “As long as there are wrestlers who want to ‘do GLEAT,’ we’ll keep going. I’ve made up my mind.”>Regarding Tamura, Suzuki explained, “We’ve reached a natural stopping point with having him oversee wrestlers as Executive Director, so I asked him to step down from that role. Instead, I would like him to face us as a wrestler.” Suzuki said he has already conveyed this intention to Tamura, adding emphatically, “I want him to show, with his own actions, what UWF really is.” Can Suzuki persuade the famously “stubborn” Tamura to return to the ring?>As for Aitaka, his departure was a choice made to balance a dual career as an actor, and he is expected to continue appearing for GLEAT as a freelancer. Suzuki commented, “I hope it all leads to an outcome where everyone can say, ‘That was for the best.’” What kind of headlines will GLEAT make this year?>Suzuki also explained the circumstances behind the departures of the four individuals. Concerning CIMA, whose differences in direction had become apparent, Suzuki said, “After many discussions, it ultimately came down to his own decision.” As for Yoshino, who had assumed the commissioner role with CIMA acting as an intermediary, Suzuki revealed, “From his standpoint, he personally came to us and said, ‘I will step down.’”

>[GLEAT] Katsuhiko Nakajima, uneasy about a V6 defense against Ryo Aitaka after Aitaka’s “leaving the company” announcement — how Shinya Aoki and Kashin see it>The LIDET UWF World Champion, the “XX Style” Katsuhiko Nakajima (37), held a “Christmas Meeting” with the “Devil Mask” Kendo Kashin and Shinya Aoki (42) ahead of his V6 title defense against Ryo Aitaka (30th, Shinjuku FACE, Tokyo).>On the 23rd, the three were spotted at the bar “Tommy’s” in Roppongi, Tokyo. Their main goal seemed to be a secret discussion about the future of the new unit that was formed on the 6th. But since a reporter was there like it was no big deal, their plans immediately went off the rails. “Why are you here?!” Kashin snapped, then declared: “Someone in here leaked information. Everybody, close your eyes. Whoever leaked it, raise your hand.” Kashin and Nakajima raised their hands.>After that little skit—and a fruitless debate over whether there was a “mastermind”—they turned to the unit name. Kashin had dubbed it “Real Toukon Strong Styles” on his Instagram, but it wasn’t formally decided, and at Nakajima’s suggestion they agreed that for the time being they’d tack “(provisional)” onto the end. It’s already long—why make it even longer…?
>>19664847>Maybe finally sensing some urgency, Nakajima cut off the idle chatter and asked for advice heading into the Aitaka match. As for Aitaka, it had been announced the previous night that he, along with CIMA, will be leaving the company at the end of this year. Kashin said: “I mean, what happens if you lose? Your opponent’s going to quit, right?” Aoki chimed in: “That’s literally running off with the title!”>To that, Nakajima looked ahead: “I don’t know either. Even in this kind of situation, we still have a UWF title match, so the only thing we can do is show it through the fight.” When Aoki stubbornly kept worrying about GLEAT’s future amid the continuing departures, Kashin—of all people—suddenly showed company loyalty: “No, there’s nothing to worry about. Because Hiroyuki (President Hiroyuki Suzuki) is a first-class manager! I think he made this decision precisely because he has a do-or-die idea.”>After that, the three—led by Kashin—shouted in unison, “We’re family, Da!!” and so on… who even knows what was happening anymore. In the end, nothing important was decided, but what exactly were these guys doing at midday in the year-end rush?https://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/articles/-/371335

Just finished the 1/11 AJPW show. Low stakes show. Nothing too drastic happened other than it was amusing to see Shiozaki taunt Miyahara a bit with the Xceed references only to confirm his loyalty to Havoc after the match. That said it seems like we may see Shiozaki have singles matches this year with Suwama and Yuma Anzai so those should be fun to watch down the road.

Wrestle Universe producer Nagasawa wrote up a blogpost about his job as part of WU's recruitment efforts:>CyberFight is currently recruiting for event sales positions for each of NOAH / DDT / TJPW.>My own career had nothing to do with event sales, but after joining CyberFight—especially once I became deeply involved with “MONDAY MAGIC”—I found myself much closer to the sales staff, and I’ve come to see their day-to-day mission much more clearly....>Event operations for the assigned event, including day-of support>Based on the promotion’s scale and annual targets, the yearly event schedule is decided at the board meeting, and then within each division, specific events handled by sales (Korakuen Hall shows, Sendai PIT shows, etc.) are assigned.>It starts with discussing dates with the venue, then designing the seating layout and other venue plans, setting the sales schedule for various ticket types, and working out the day-of timeline. Once ticket sales begin, you coordinate as needed with each ticketing agency (e+, Ticket Pia, Lawson Ticket, etc.) while tracking progress on ticket numbers.>In parallel, you move forward with promotions to boost ticket sales for the day—producing posters and coordinating with the merch team and PR team.>Then, on the day of the event, you start by managing venue setup, and once doors open, you coordinate with each position to create a space where customers can enjoy the show.>In the pro-wrestling business there are multiple revenue drivers—tickets, merchandise, streaming, sponsors, and so on—but the ultimate source of everything is the wrestlers’ battles in the ring. I feel the importance and fulfillment of the sales role—building from zero the “place” called an event that gives rise to those battles—is enormous, and I respect them as colleagues in the same company.https://x.com/nagasawa_0515/status/2011820498293047337

>BIGBOSS Shimizu reveals the truth behind his “betrayal right after returning”: “Those guys are just dancing.”>BIGBOSS Shimizu (33) spoke candidly—in Kansai dialect—about what really happened with his “betrayal right after returning.”>Shimizu had been out indefinitely since December 24, but returned to the DG ring for the first time in about a year at the Kobe show on the 8th. However, at the very next day’s Kobe event on the 9th, he suddenly betrayed his former home unit, Natural Vibes, and joined the villainous faction “Gaja Dokuro.” At the Korakuen show on the 18th, he forced Vibes leader Kzy to submit after a ruthless weapon attack.>After the match, Shimizu told reporters: “They’re just dancing, that’s all. In the end, with me gone, what did they actually accomplish?” He explained his reason for turning: “There’s no point going back to Vibes. If that’s the case, I figured it’s better to join the strongest unit right now—Gaja Dokuro—because that’s how I can move up.” As for leaving a one-day gap before doing it, he flashed a fearless grin and said: “That’s more fun, isn’t it? I figured if you build it up and then drop it, Vibes takes even more damage.”>The changes don’t stop there. His weight, once 115 kg, has plummeted to 90 kg. His wrestler’s physique has been reborn into something like a bodybuilder’s. Shimizu revealed the reason for the transformation: “I thought it’d be more fun if I looked different when I came back.”>A singles match with Shun Skywalker is set for the Korakuen show on February 5. At the Kobe event on the 9th, Shimizu powerbombed Shun onto a steel chair, sending him into temporary absence. Shimizu said: “I had this image that he was carrying DRAGONGATE on his own, but I came back and immediately I’m the one who put that guy on the shelf. That’s what he amounts to. I’m going to make a bloodbath out of him, so look forward to it.”>One hell of a monster has come back to the DG ring.https://www.tokyo-sports.co.jp/articles/-/374063

The previous ones on Cagematch from 2025>16.12.2025 - 1190>03.12.2025 - 1050>06.11.2025 - 1136>08.10.2025 - 1118>24.09.2025 - 1268>04.09.2025 - 1098>05.08.2025 - 1250>03.07.2025 - 1066>05.06.2025 - 1239>04.06.2025 - 1186>09.05.2025 - 1049>07.04.2025 - 1367>04.03.2025 - 1218>05.02.2025 - 1105>16.01.2025 - 1090>15.01.2025 - 1120So other than about 3-400 above the usual Korakuen shows in 2025. I've seen most of their shows post-covid and could accept the argument that those numbers lay between 1000-1200 depending on the show when compared to >>19709048 I think It's mostly their big non-Korakuen shows where they bump up the numbers, most famously Their Kobe show in 2024 which they reported as being 4795 (was probably closer to 3K) vs NJPWs report of their show at 4212.

To prepare for the Kento vs Talos match AJPW released an interview with Talos on his life story. The one they did for Xyon & Odyssey helped the AJPW fans warm up to them so it'll be interesting to see if this helps Talos any.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTcBuoyTpaA

Putting this here since this thread gets more discussion Why did their careers pan out so differently? In the beginning it seemed like Tenzan was destined to be a major player, but he stayed Chono's right hand for probably too long.Kojima jumps to All Japan, and Tenzan sticks around. He wins the IWGP a few times, but they never really get behind him as champion. It's almost like he was punished for his loyalty which you'd think be the opposite in Japan. Even later on in 2010 Kojima gets to come in as the big invader and win the IWGP again. How would his career had panned out if he jumped with Kojima? Or even jumped to NOAH instead? Was he just too sawdusted?

>>19725314Tenzan was the right man in the wrong time in New Japan. He would have benefitted from jumping ship too. He didn't get in the sawdust phase until 2008-ish I believe, so he would have a short period of contributing with his all.

Just finished the 1/25 AJPW show. I felt like the first half was a little slow then the second half got a lot better. Suwama winning the six man belts is fine since I imagine that'll be the prop to get a faction war going between Evolution and Havoc. Seiki vs Musashi was a bit disappointing to me because while it was a competent match it didn't have much heat to it when it was supposed to be a bit of a grudge match. From there though the show got a lot better. Atsuki vs Seigo easily overdelivered and seeing Seigo wrestle seriously was a huge treat because he's a great wrestler when he's working serious. The main event was decent too. Talos did pretty good and I like Kento's selling the entire match. If AJPW is hoping Talos is their next Joe Doering I think they'll be happy. That said I hope Kento wins this next championship match because I really don't want AJPW to kill the momentum they've built the last few months by putting the belt back on Jun Saito again when AJPW was in a bit of a cold spell under Saito's reign.

Apparently there's been some confirmations that AJPW is reducing the amount of comedy on their shows and focusing on more serious matches with the return of Suwama and the recent Ashino and Sekimoto reigns with the Gaora belt as proof of that plus even Hokuto-gun tightening the belt a little bit. I can't complain about this change of direction. There will always be some room for a little comedy on the card but I think AJPW leaned on it too heavily last year so it'll be nice to see efforts to have more serious feuds going on instead this year.
