I was around here when I happened, I even went to the first AEW Dynamite, but what was /asp/‘s first reaction to AEW back in like late 2018/2019? Where accusations of similar kinds like today being made?

gonna try and find the gamethread of the first dynamite if I have time today. According the wikipedia the debut episode of Dynamite was October 2nd 2019, although All Out was months before that

>AEW Dynamite has been on the air longer than WCW Monday Nitro

AEW was always mocked and made fun of here, this was a WWE website first and every japanese or indy wrestling fan was an interloper trying to colonize the board

AEW had a widely positive reception at first, of course there were people who didn't like it, but the balance was way more in the positive plus there were way more posters here then and less spam prevalence. The unexpected nature of the early shows had a lot of excitement towards it. Things slowed down a bit halfway through the 'demic in terms of hype, but they came back strong when crowds returned. Punks debut had them even hotter but then things kind of went sideways after the Bryan and Cole debut and the feel of things kind of changed into more modern AEW and some interest was post then the consolewars hit a new peak with less posters and said community dwindled away into what we have now. Cody's return was pretty much the perfect timing and WWE gained back momentum and the casual audience while the smark fandoms are kind of split and mostly on Reddit and Twitter now which I have no interest in.
