Komomo) Thank you very much. I’m looking forward to today.

—At the press conference you were like, “No, it’s different, um, um~ (sniffle).”

Komomo) Ufufu, I really couldn’t get it across properly~ (lol)

—At that presser you had a hard-to-describe expression on your face—what were you actually feeling?

Komomo) From the outside, it really just looks like a challenge match, doesn’t it? But it’s not a challenge match—it’s a title match, so I’m going to win. I have to win. If I don’t win, there’s no point, I think. Since they’ve set it up for me, I have to. But I want to say it better~. Even now I can’t say it well… (wry smile)

—And it’s the main event, too.

Komomo) Yes. I’ve been in main events before, but this is my first singles main.

—Ohh, that’s exciting.

Komomo) It is, fufufu. But somehow I’m not that nervous. I thought I’d be nervous because it’s my first title match, but I’m not nervous at all. Even at my homecoming show I wasn’t nervous in the slightest.

—Your grandma must’ve been happy.

Komomo) She was. She enjoyed it.

—That grandma who got mad like, “What are you doing to our Komomo!” when you got powerbombed.

Komomo) Fufufu, that brings back memories.

—But not getting nervous is a huge weapon.

Komomo) Really? I’m *too* not-nervous. You’re supposed to have that tension, right? But I really don’t, so that’s been my worry lately.

Komomo) I haven’t even done a tag title match; this is my first title match. But more than anything, press conferences are what make me the most nervous.

—More nervous than the match!

Komomo) I’m just bad at talking. And then you’ve got all these reporters watching you. Once I’m holding a microphone in that situation, I can’t do it. Even after matches, when I sometimes have to hold a mic, I just… Afterward people tell me, “It was good—you had that Komomo flavor,” but I want to speak a little more properly.

—It feels like the crowd is actually enjoying the “Komomo, you can do it~” vibe.

Komomo) They always tell me, “It was good!”

—Being the kind of person people want to cheer for is a big trait. It feels like you’ve been gaining more fans in the building, too.

Komomo) I’ve gained a lot more. Not just in Kanto—there are regular fans in Kansai and Tohoku too. Even people who live far away will go out of their way to come to, like, the Fukuoka show, and I’m so, so happy!

—Maybe a banner will get put up for your title match.

Komomo) Ah~! That’d make me so happy. I’ve got to work hard enough for that! Lately, fans of Mayu-san have started coming too. That surprised me.

—That’s great too.

Komomo) The other day in the tag tournament they introduced us like “Mayu Iwatani and her entourage team” (lol). In Marigold I’m often at ringside as Mayu-san’s second, and even in other promotions like Monday Magic (NOAH) I’ve been her second, so people say things like, “Aim for Mayu-chan and keep at it!”

—So it’ll look even more like a challenge match, which means you have to overturn that impression.

Komomo) Yes seriously.

—Speaking of not getting words out, Seto Rea is also famous for crying right away.

Komomo) At the last presser she didn’t cry, so all the wrestlers were like, “Ohh, you’re amazing today!”

—They felt her growth.

Komomo) At press conferences, I just fire off the words I want to say in my head—bam bam bam—and then I connect them on the spot. So it gets even less organized. I always think, “Prepare in advance!” but in the end, unless it’s the energy of the moment, I can’t just go for it—yeah.

—On the other hand, if you prepare, you might panic like “I have to say *that*.”

Komomo) I might… Not just pressers—post-match mics too, I’m still not used to them. When the mic came to me in a November match, I hadn’t listened to anyone at all, and before I knew it it was my turn. The vibe got kind of bad, so I handed the mic to Koshino-san right away and had her change the atmosphere (lol)

—Even if you mess up, if you just speak straightforwardly and keep going—

Komomo) True. If I talk honestly, maybe it’ll get through. Man… even so, I wasn’t planning to cry at the presser. I said most of what I wanted to, but in the middle I got into this mode like, “It’s not enough—I need to add more, aaah!” and it made me sad.

—You could just pull out a memo like, “I wrote down what I want to say!”

Komomo) That’s definitely the most reliable. After Mayu-san told me, “You keep saying ‘I’ll win, I’ll win,’ but you don’t have the results to back it up,” at the 1/24 Korakuen presser for my match with Yuzuki, I said the same thing to Yuzuki too—“I want to win, I’m going to win.” Then again I flipped that “I want to say it better! Aaah!” bad-switch and it was over.

—Yuzuki is basically like a contemporary of yours.

Komomo) Yeah. We’ve been together constantly. I’ve known Yuzuki since she was like a baby right after joining—she was maybe 18? No matter what you said to her, she’d only answer “Yes,” a shy baby—then she ended up becoming so impressive she’s doing a singles at Korakuen (lol)

—That one was a non-title singles.

Komomo) Yes, it was. Because we’re always together, we can fight with everything we’ve got!

—You used to say “On my days off I’m always in my room,” but—

Komomo) I haven’t found a hobby, but friends from my hometown in Fukuoka all moved up to Tokyo for work. So I go out to hang out or get food with them a lot. Last week too, I met up with like two of them and went out to eat. I’m not shut up in my room anymore (lol)

—And they’re all coming to watch your title match.

Komomo) I haven’t told them.

—Huh!? Why?

Komomo) I don’t know… it’s embarrassing. They say, “You? A wrestler? How, how?”—and if they start asking a bunch of things, I have to explain everything and it’s a pain (lol). My friends aren’t into pro wrestling; it’s just that I’m the only one who happened to come over here (the pro wrestling world).

—What kind of presence is Iwatani to you?

Komomo) I’ve always watched her matches and thought she was amazing. After Mayu-san came to Marigold and I started seeing her up close as a second, I understood it even more. She’s someone I admire. It feels totally different watching on video versus seeing it live (lol)

—Watching straight-on through a screen and watching from ringside looking up are totally different.

Komomo) Yes, totally different. I learn by watching her matches. Like, maybe this is the kind of pro wrestling I should aim for. Her bumping is incredible, and she takes and takes and keeps taking—and then wins, right? I want to be like that.

—To put it extremely, if you can keep taking for 10 minutes, your opponent gets dramatically worn down.

Komomo) Exactly. Attacking is *so* tiring. Honestly, taking is almost easier (lol)

—And then you can win with a counter at the moment they’re exhausted.

Komomo) The “take, take, take, then win” style—finishing with the Komo Clutch! In 2025, most of my wins have been with the Komo Clutch.
