Are the later editions of TEW worth it over 2016? Anybody playing the newer versions who prefer it over 2016; what new features make it worth it?

Used to play Journey of Wrestling and Kek by burying Shawn Michaels every time.

Depends

Things that were changed with TEW 2020 https://bethebooker.net/thread/226/tew2020-announcement-developers-journal
>Able to play as child companies
>1366x768 resolution
>grade graphics were removed, it's strictly numbers now
>new user interface
>product preferences have been removed and replaced with hardcoded products
>Attributes - tags that can be assigned to workers to give them specific quirks or abilities. These range from personality changers (like "Party Animal" and "Troublemaker") to lifestyle effects (like "Former Hard Drug User" or "Straight Edge") to ones that change what a worker is willing to do (like "Daredevil" which means they are always willing to do crazy and stunt bumps).
>Company sizes - now its: Insignificant, Tiny, Small, Medium, Big, Large, and Titanic
>Scheduling - each company has a Schedule Strategy. These are the options: Monthly, Almost Weekly, Weekly, Constant, TV Or Monthly / TV Or Weekly / TV Or Constant, Tours, Seasons
>Talk To Worker - Taken from WMMA5, a new feature to appear in TEW is the ability to 'talk' to workers. The user can choose to talk to anybody (except other users) in the game world. They are then given a list of possible questions / suggestions / comments that are context-dependent that they can select from. The worker will then give an appropriate response. Career includes things like asking someone to consider becoming available to work in a new area, asking them to move their base, to reconsider retirement plans, consider retiring, or consider taking on new roles (like becoming a road agent, for example). In-Ring includes things like asking them to change their style or change things relating to their in-ring related attributes. Physical includes things like asking them to get bigger or smaller or proposing that they change body shape (like getting fitter or putting on more muscle mass).
>Ticket pricing - the user can now set ticket pricing strategies for events, TV shows, and house shows.

Yes. They're less gamey.

Features added in TEW IX https://tewdb.com/whats-new-in-tew-ix-every-new-feature-announced-so-far/
>Booking team/Creative Energy - Each company can now optionally have a booking team of up to five people. At the start of the night of a show, the booking team meets. Each member is rated on their Booking Skill and generates a new concept to the game, Creative Energy (CE).
>Creative Ideas - essentially purchasable “booking aids” that can be deployed to give certain effects. The available choices are Creative Finishes, Angle Ideas, Gimmick Ideas, Storylines Ideas and Character Ideas. Each costs a certain amount of CE and then can be used in-game. For example, you might deploy a Creative Finish (via a road agent note) to a big match to try and boost its rating a little more, or use a Gimmick Idea to increase the chance of someone’s new gimmick being more successful.
>Inner Circle - Each company can now have an inner circle; this is a series of optional roles that you can hand out to people on the roster. The roles are: Locker Room Leaders, Chief Enforcers, Head Of Talent Relations, Morale Officer, Senior Road Agent, Senior Referee, Head Men’s Trainer and Head Women’s Trainer, Travel Organiser, Stooge.
>Elimination Order - Road agent notes can now be used to give precise instructions for the order of elimination in matches
>Heights & Weights - workers will now use real heights and weights
>Angle system is completely changed
>Your avatar can die now - they do get special protection in that they aren’t eligible for random deaths and can’t die before the age of 66 under any circumstance. Once you get close to the point where your avatar is eligible to die, the game will explicitly warn you and recommend that you utilise the next feature to be covered…

Ok but fuck that dev thinking his game is worth that much still kek
I'd rather play journey of wrestling or pro wrestling story than give that fucker money.
>>
>>19782535
That's fair. I'm too autistic. I need more immersion and more of a world that feels alive than what JoW is able to provide.
>>
>>19782543
Oh I agree just can't believe he still thinks that shit is worth that much. It wasn't ever worth 20 dollars. It isn't even an issue of cost it is more who the fuck does he think he is? You made the same game repeatedly for over a decade. Fix your fucking pricing.
>>
>>19782548
>It isn't even an issue of cost it is more who the fuck does he think he is?
the guy who's been running the WrestlingSim genre since 2001-02ish?

>>
>>19782555
KEK, you mean the one who's best work was EWR and the last product actually worth 20 bucks.
>>19782558
Yes, I am kairosoft, it is I, the japanese phone game creator.
>>
>>19782563
look man you clearly have a legitimate personal issue with ryland and it is sad you feel the need to be in these threads actively discouraging people from playing the fucking games they're about. you're in every single one.
>>
>>19782563
TEW is the Football Manager of the wrestling sim genre. There are dozens of Football Manager games, but FM is the 'WWE' and thus has the privilege of being the most expensive one.
And PWS ain't worth 20 bucks. It's basically just TEW with a lot less features in exchange for a way better UI made by AI anyway.
>>
>>19782566
>a legitimate personal issue with ryland
him charging almost 40 dollars for a text based game?
>you feel the need to be in these threads actively discouraging people
I'm mocking it openly, if that bothers you, charge less for your game.
>you're in every single one
considering I haven't been posting on /pw/ for fucking months maybe just maybe he's charging too much for his games if multiple people are saying the same thing? No? ok just personal attacks yeah sure bro.
>>19782572
That same retard makes football manager slop too. He's made the same shit multiple times kek
>PWS aint worth 20 bucks
yeah that is why its an 8? dollar phone game. I get it, you don't like it, you can stop crying about it already it is getting sad.
>ai
No. You're talking about some other slop shit. Still doesn't change TEW never being worth more than 20. The guy still refuses to finish any of these games after so long at it.

Football Manager is a AAA built by a team of hundreds of professional developers, designers and artists.
TEW is shitty VB6 shovelware that still doesnt know how to load databases in less than a few minutes, has constant crashing issues and you cant even change the window size because the developer is so incompetent that they dont know how to build that in.

Have you ever tried booking an alternate future where Paul Heyman was good with money and kept ECW going
>>
>>19783731
I can't play a scenario if feels too much like fantasy. Paul being good with money and not screwing over his goyim workers is just too unrealistic for me.

How about Shane O' Mac buying ECW

I kinda like running the Indie Killer gimmick as a promoter. I have two developmental companies and since I also have my own streaming service, they each have tv shows on my network. I sign up all the best talent and stick them in my developmentals. They’re the #5 and #9 biggest companies in the US just because they didn’t have to wait until medium size to get a tv show.

I still play 2016 and use it to merge mods. ive posted about it before. I dislike the direct of the later games and how it does things so I just stay with 2016. no biggy as I have a ton of mods for it and it goes up to 2021 real world and thats fine as I rarely play later than 2021 due to chicks being old and too many retired from early era to play how I want to merge. I tend to mostly be in and around 2004-2008 as it lets me bring in the most imports that way as far back as the 1980 mods to the 2021 mods and later wrestlers. throws off the top lists a ton but depending on importing order and how (active retired and stuff) you can really stack things. import all active first than add staff after to avoid that oops he's retired shit. tend to end up with roughly 9,000-13,000 people in the world overall and I run 50-150 feds depending on what im going for.

Though the newest save has 11,000+ and only 9 feds as im doing a build it up things over the years and its only 2005 and 1 year into it.

I vaguely treat the years like a season of sorts for a team in a giant super league and thats incorporated into the story and plot in profiles and background notes and promos. so that rank 47 fed might get refernce in a cross over show (a bunch of alliance shit also further breakikng it into more "leagues".
>>
Guys were being randomly swapped in my booking, and I don't think I was fucking it up. The fucking ref came out to debut my new star instead of his manager.
>>
WHCW: a while back I had finished a program with main eventers Cora Jade, her partner Chelsea Diamond, and villain Violet Payne and was transitioning into forming the Passion Police with Cora and newcomer Rok-C taking on fellow newcomer Skye Blue. The story was back in Chicago as kids Cora paid Skye to take out her exboyfriend giving Cora an alibi (this is the boy she lit on fire in church irl,) but Skye never finished the job and they were both catty bitches to each other all through high school stealing each other's boyfriends, framing each other for crimes, causing miscarriages, etc. Violet and Chelsea were going to have minor rolls in the story as well to wrap them up. Anyway, Cora and Violet got injured of course, so Skye was teamed with Anna Jay as strippers, and Rok-C was placed in a feud with Giulia with a midget streetfighter gimmick. Both are getting over well in their revised roles so far and are solid upper midcarders with the bonus effect of Anna Jay getting over too.

I wish there was a perfect gritty wrestling booking simulator that was on par with the over the topness as Blitz the League franchise where you can juice your entire roster.

You can do this in TEW, ask each wrestler to go on steroids, fire the ones who refuse.
>>
>>19788044
also Dirty Doctor
>>
>>19788044
Yes but when i meant in a more "over the top" way like BtL, I was talking about how the game is sort of tongue in cheek overall, like it leans into the idea of encouraging the shady football stuff. I guess basically what i mean is take all the horror stories heard over the years of the wrestling business, and the game is basically built just around that. Thinking about it, that would probably be a horror game that just happens to be wrestling themed. Playing as a serial killer in a wrestling game where you try not to get caught while reaching the top of the wrestling world sounds like an interesting concept.

>I dislike the direct of the later games and how it does things so I just stay with 2016

This is what I am interested. For those of you who prefer playing an older version of TEW like 2016, what is it about the new versions that makes it no worth it or an older one preferable?
>>
>>19788325
I'm playing the newer ones. But I preferred the old ways that angles worked and somehow the old way storylines worked as well

Damn I never considered that $40 is a lot of money to some people. I spend $40 likes it’s nothing cause relative to my income it is. That must suck for you.
>>
>>19788325
I dislike how he does feds and a few other changes. mostly I like to run risque tlc hardcore feds with mma so kind of a panty butt kung fu hardcore battle with tables and chairs and ladders (think of those silly jackie chan movies with him against a bunch of people fighting with items and things with kicks and all that. now remove the kung fu and more fighting simular and not as cool. I guess some silly pantybutt super fighter show. and the later just kinda fuck me on it in some ways and I just DONT like the ui in later games (2016 is still kinda shit). im sure its autism also.

and I just like the mods and I know it well. and I merge real world and default int super worlds. so meh got it all in 2016 so no want to change to something already on my meh list
>>
>>19782355
I guess it depends on what’s important to you. I mainly play historical mods and it’s pretty lacking. Theres are ok mods for 1998 and 2011. Multiple people seem to be doing 2018/19 mods. There’s a couple of 80s mods in the work but the one that is out I’ve barely touched cause of some glaring issues, mostly involving overness. Not memeing when I say the best historical mod is 1992, though I think it’s a bit of a shit year with WWE having every star wrestler, but it can be fun to try and grow wcw with sting and steamboat vs Arn rude and zybisko. 04 looks like it’s getting a big overhaul again but the current game is still perfectly playable if you don’t care about Japanese indie talent.
A couple people do modern day mods almost monthly, one guy does low stats with few promotions and the another guy does slightly higher stats with more promotions. Cant comment on the accuracy of them but if modern day is your jam you have options.
Historical fantasy mods are around, like there’s one about if the NWA never got fucked over, there’s a couple that are basically just boil down to Owen not dying. The big one is here comes the money which is what if Shane buying wcw was a shoot. You can easily rework this into a 2001 mod by just reassigning all the wcw contracts and importing TNA from another mod. The mod maker has stated he doesn’t believe people actually play mods long term so there’s not a lot of talent waiting to debut.
Pure fantasy mods I don’t play but there seems to be several options.
If you play modern mods or fantasy mods, or really want to just jump into a 92 or 98 game I say upgrade. If you’re into the 80s or 2000s, ask again in a month or two, I’ll be here.
Gameplay, there are active updates and changes have been mostly positive.

sup /book/ermen

hit some writers block. I'm about to graduate from backyard small but not sure where i want to go next. thinking about vacating the belt and running a g1 type tourney.
>>
>>19789361
Does the jump in size mean you have access to more workers now? Haven’t played small fed yet but I think that’s how it works. If so, maybe bring in some new bigger (relatively speaking) names and have them battle it out with your established workers for the belt. The central idea could be tension between the new guys who think they’re above all the backyard shitters, and the guys who actually put in the work to grow the company in the first place.
>>
>>19788044
Likewise you can sober up wrestlers in seconds. Most positive personalities will drop all substance abuse if you just ask. You can also ask people with negative or neutral personalities to quit, some will, some will tell you they’ve tried and can’t, it’s really tragic, and others are like “I love doing hard drugs and will probably never stop” which is a wild thing to tell your employer.
>>
>>19789361
what promotion are you running

>>19789406
I recall a jump in size means more workers on your roster and more popular workers being willing to work for you
