What the FUCK went so wrong for WWE in 2025?

paul has no vision, which is funny in itself due to that stable of the sane name and whatnot, meanwhile tony had a clear plan in place and stuck thru it
>>
When was this vote? Let me guess it was on discord
>>
Who the fuck is DPW?
>>

They signed a 1.6 billion dollar deal with ESPN to distribute their PLEs in America. I wish things could go as "wrong" for me as they went for WWE in 2025.
>>
>>19822800
Damn that has to be one of the biggest turnarounds

some youtuber fed that had to shut down because nobody was watching

that'll do, pig. that'll do.

Tony locked in.
>>
>>19822800
They leaned too far politically and lost a lot of goodwill from that side of the online crowd. That's about it. It became cool to hate them again. Meanwhile people still (wrongly) think Tony is different and that AEW is the 'good guy' company so they became popular for smarks again. In reality both are positioned the same as they still were in terms of actual business

The John Cena heel turn was a travesty
>>
>>19823517
That's the only thing that really went wrong, and it overshadowed everything else for a lot of people even though there was plenty to enjoy last year.

What else did you not like about WWE in 2025, and I'd love for you to answer without saying "fumble" or "slop"
>>
>>19822800
Its less that WWE was that good in 2024 than AEW was that bad. The Rock carried the hell out of WWE in 2024. Meanwhile AEW was doing that terrible MJF/Adam Cole "Devil" storyline.

WM 41
Wrestlepalooza
WarGames
doing nothing with the new day heel turn
jey winning the rumble
Gunther's booking
that's off the top of my head
>>
>>19823623
flop
>>
>>19823623
>Geeking Cody out at Mania
>Giving Cody nothing other than Drew when becoming champ again
>Endless Finn/Judgment Day drama which is still ongoing
>Gunther tapping to Jey killed him off permanently, even with all their attempts to rehab him has flopped
>Punk's entire goal to main event Mania was just handed to him when he got hurt in 2024, took his eyes off the ball in 2025 Rumble and was screwed by Seth in the Chamber
>Seth pretended to be hurt so he could cash in on Punk despite Punk just wrestling a grueling match with Gunther and having a fucking stable while Punk has no one
>Netflix debut was dire

Probably a bunch more too but 2025 is a blur of trash.

>Gunther tapping to Jey killed him off permanently
Genuinely delusional

I just think there is a bigger disconnect between the two types of wrestling fanbases then ever. There are people who prefer WWE style and people who love AEW style. The people who like AEW really like AEW and they like to write about it online because they are the kinds of people who are always online so the people always online make online awards and that's what AEW wins. That's fine for them but how are you going to tell me the show with 2k in the crowd is better than the one with 12k who are also paying triple the amount? And you can't use the new company excuse. They were able to draw crowds before. If the show was good, people would go. There's still enough good in WWE for people to have a good time going and for people to get invested. How can you argue differently? Are people being forced to go to WWE shows? Are AEW shows for some reason hard to get tickets for? What's the excuse?

>If the show was good, people would go.
Brotha, that is incredibly naive of you. Look at the top 10 highest-grossing movies of last year. They are all remakes, sequels and video game movies. In other words. people go to the show because they recognize the brand. It will be interesting to see how WWE does with all of the "legends" retiring, but the WWE brand is still way more recognizable than AEW.
>>
>>19824268
There was a three-year period when people went to AEW shows. Why didn't them not being a well known brand matter then?
>>
>>19824268
WWE's attendance has gone up while viewership has gone down.
AEW's attendance has gone down while viewership has gone down.
Wrestling overall is less popular, but the fans who stuck around are willing to spend money, willing to give competitors a try, and seem to (per capita) prefer and prioritize going to shows over watching from home

Such that AEW isn't thriving, it has little to do with WWE name recognition and more to do with AEW failing to capture the fans who gave them a shot but ultimately decided to move on.
>>
>>19822800
unironically triple bypass
>>
>>19824354
For the opposite reason. Something brand new with a bunch of hype and media coverage will do well at the start.
AEW never overtook WWE, thoughbeit.
The other anon made a great point, people stick to brand familiarity and nostalgia.
