>>19897560It all makes sense once you break it down. Punk wanted to get back into wrestling for a while, but specifically back to WWE. That's why he did that WWE backstage show. He saw it as a sort of back door way to get back to WWE. But at that time Vince was still very much in charge and just wasn't interested in Punk. So AEW reached out to him eventually, and offered him bags of money, so to him it was likely a case of "Why not?". But he saw WWE as the big time. And it's probably why he was always abrasive in AEW. To him it's a rinky dink show ran by people that don't know what they are doing. So then he causes all that trouble and gets released, and goes on to return to WWE, conveniently after Vince is no longer the guy calling the shots (wouldn't be surprised is Punk did this on purpose once he realised his main barrier to returning to WWE couldn't block the move anymore).
