There couldn't just be heatless bangers for smarks to jack off to until they forgot about them 30 minutes later. You used to have to actually be able to talk crowds into the building and sell tickets that way. You used to actually have to have a strong character and an attention-getting look and name and be a personality. You couldn't just spend 10 years in a backyard and have your friends give you a pity run in their own company because you "deserve" it. Selling a match and building actual heat and getting fans to think you actually hated the other guy and wanted to beat his ass is in fact what real professional wrestling was built off of
