The AEW target audience skews in that age range that got completely burned out from years of shitty heel authority angles in WWE and TNA and that's why AEW took off. One of the main contributors to AEW ratings tanking so hard in 2023 was that they experimented with too much overdone shit like that in a short time, in a misguided attempt to chase a "casual audience" that was never interested to begin with, while alienating their core fanbase. At the same time WWE was starting to do less of that stuff, also.Then after the pushback they got, AEW shifted way too far in the other direction to more workrate and "serious" murderkill burnyourhousedown stories and alienated the fans who were there for the sillier stuff. They had a good balance to start but they fucked it.
