seriously though why did vince push him when he sucks at every aspect of professional wrestling? his physique isn’t even aesthetic he’s got a blocky waist and narrow shoulders with a roid gut. what did vince see in him
>>
>>20139260
Because he was big enough to look impressive but not too big to wrestle the monster heels, same as Hogan.
>>
>>20139263
Hogan was like 6ft6 with the largest pythons brotherrr
>>
>>20139263
Hogan was fucking huge, tall, and had all the finest roids the 70s and 80s had to offer.
>>
>>20139268
>>20139278
he had the best set of heels ever assembled at any point in history one after another

you spend too much time looking naked men closely bro

you're fucking retarded, Big Match John was the total package
>>
Because Benoit had to kill his fucking wife and kid and Vince had to repair his companies image by pushing someone that was squeaky clean.
>>
>>20139348
he was getting pushed 2 years before that
>>
>>20139260
So tell me this, smark: who do you think Vince should've pushed as the face of the company instead of BMJ? Boreton? Mr Kennedy? Wade Barrett?

Better than Roman in every single way

The only people who hate this man are people who have never worked a real job in their lives. It finally hit me. The only reason you would hate John Cena is if you haven't really thought through how difficult his job is compared to yours. I've done shit work in carpentry and warehousing, and I still wouldn't want to do the kind of work even the low-card wrestler goes through. Someone being able to handle as much pressure as Cena and still be clever, confident, disciplined & unentitled is nothing short of world class character. You NEETs and teenagers would never be able to understand this.
>>
>>20139464
working warehouse for minimum wage and being miserable and then comparing that to being a millionaire to do the job you’ve wanted to do since you were a kid and even actively paid to start doing. please stop being retarded
>>
>>20139467
Working a job you wanted as a kid doesn't magically make it fun. You have never been employed for more than two years in your life. You can't understand what it's like to work one job for a decade. Go to sleep kid.
>>
>>20139467
Since you don't even consider the discipline, dedication, willpower etc. involved that tells us you need more life experience.

>>20139469

*crack* SSSIIIIIIIIPPPP
Yep. These kiddos just have no work ethic. They don’t have the guts to pull themselves up by the bootstraps, pound the pavement, hand out resumes, and give a manager a firm handshake.
>>
>When proven wrong bring out the memespeak and devolve the whole exchange Into nonsense

>>20139469
doing the thing you paid to do in your free time but now being paid millions to do it doesn’t make to fun. why the fuck did he move across the country to do it in his free time then?
>>
>>20139489
One word: grit. It’s something you entitled millennials wouldn’t understand. Back in my day I had to walk 15 miles in the snow just to get to my job at the hardware store.

We love John here.

You unironically can't find anyone more dedicated, if not autistic and robotic, at being THE company man than Cena.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j8F3_rKCU8
Shoot, fine me someone who would do this in one sitting aside of him. This man's borderline psychopath.
>>
>>20139607
they literally make everyone do these they just record and promote cena doing it. it’s not even dedication if you said no they’d just released you or suspended you or fine you or cut your pay

John is an autist with crazy work ethic. He's a CEO's wet dream.

The only one that I noticed doing a semblance of this is Cody, but then again, he's some sort of a retarded autist himself.

going to college and getting a job isn’t hard work it’s luck
>>
>>20139260
because steph liked him. really that was the reason
>>
>>20139361
And he then helmed the entirety of the era following by himself from the CENA WINS LOL streak with him literally hogging the main event, even to the detriment of the show which even John pointed out got tiresome. Benoit putting the dogs in the pool area turned WWE into a cartoon again.
>>
>>20139612
No, they do not have jobbers signing 3000 signatures for a show. Not sure where you got that idea.
>>
>>20139260
>why did vince push him when he sucks at every aspect of professional wrestling?
Cena sold an unbelievable amount of merch. It really is as simple as that. I do think Cena was very overrated too, but in a purely business sense, no one can deny the dude was a big draw. It's really as simple as that.

Cody is like social version of Cena. He spends a shitload of time after shows with people and used to shake everyones hand as they entered the first AEW shows
>>
>>20139782
They have 3000 fans at NXT shows all getting programs with autographs?
You think Lyra and Roxanne have as much demand and work as much as Cena did?
>>
>>20139622
Except everyone who was put in any position and didn't go to that extent or couldn't handle it, and the fact that nobody has ever done what Cena did for that long and that consistently. Successful people aren't just 'lucky', their lives are a product of hard work.
>>
>>20139260
He filmed himself raping Alex Riley for Vince to watch
>>
>>20139802
who got put in the main event for 10 years straight with fans hating him the entire time and couldn’t handle it?
>>
>>20139260
>T shirt machine go Brrrrrrrr
>>
>>20139260
So he can relate to an average guy sitting at home ofc
>>
>>20139820
All the guys who couldn't handle it and didn't last ten years? Roman? Orton early in his career? Most people crack at even mild criticism, Cena got the heaviest criticism ever for the longest period ever. Why are you prolonging this childish argument.
>>
>>20139774
nah you are. We love BMJ here
>>
>>20139260
From the endless stories that were told during the Farewell Quest last year, it sounds like Cena was about to get cut until Stephanie “discovered” his rap battle talent on the bus.

At that time, if Steph decided to go out on a limb for a guy early in her career, it’s highly likely that at least some part of the Cena push was simply Vince giving his daughter a chance to contribute.

Bosses do this all the time. I may not give a shit (hell, I might even disagree), but if an employee I trust comes to me and stands on the table for someone, I’ll usually give them a shot.

There’s nothing particularly wrong with that, either, btw. Business is all about who you know, and being in the right place at the right time, and then making the most of any opportunity you get. If any part of Cena’s push began because Vince wanted to recognize one of his daughter’s early instincts, so be it.

After that, once it became clear that Cena was an autistic company man, I’m sure it was easy for Vince to keep pushing him.
>>
>>20139936
Gotta give Cena some props though. A rap gimmick for a white wrestler sounds absolutely awful on paper. And it would bury 99.9% of anyone who would try it. Cena was charismatic enough to make it work.
>>
>>20139856
how could roman not handle it?
>>
>>20139955
He did a better job than 99 percent of people would, but he was clearly rattled at some points and needed to be heavily protected, and at clutch moments often didn't deliver, like Cena mic battle, Taker match, which was supposed to be his last epic, etc. then he went part-time and they use that to protect him further now. Not to diss Roman, it's more of a testament to how difficult the position is, esp. in modern times, and what Cena was able to do, esp. when they didn't need to protect him and could just have everyone come out and try to bury him etc. which they never let anyone do to any top guy ever before that.
>>
>>20139953
He didn't make it work. He made millions of fans tune out FOREVER and never come back. All that is left are the dork kids who actually thought that Wolfie D gimmick was cool, years after a fucking Jamie Kennedy movie showed how pathetic it was.
>>
>>20139953
Wasn't abandoning the gimmick that got him over one of the main reasons people turned on him?
>>
>>20139260
It’s clear a lot of you have no idea how to authentically capture the human gaze, which is why i presume you stick to the internet so much

But if you look at this picture and can’t see why Vince chose Cena, then idk man you’re just never gonna make it, now you can argue the push itself sucked sure, but i mean come on now. The entrance ,the look, the presence- him and Batista were the perfect transition from the attitude era
>>
>>20139971
>He made millions of fans tune out FOREVER and never come back
People were already tuning out long before Cena broke through. Pretty much since after WM17, numbers have been dipping lower and lower. Cena was huge amongst kids, and huge with soccer moms. He sold the most merch by far on the roster. PPVs with him on the card sold more. He was a draw, and this is coming from a person who isn't a huge fan of his gimmick. Never worked for me. But he did good business. Denying that is just delusional.
