For years I have been trying to like Moxley more, because I like the way he carries himself in his shoot appearances and I like his approach to wrestling in theory with the intensity and all that, but man is he sloppy. There's almost always a headscratcher in one of his matches that kills his schtick, whether it's him selling something in a goofy nonchalant way or a flat finish or even in his promos where he's just talking in circles for minutes on end, creating a ''vibe'' but not something concrete in the fans' perspective of the show. The Death Riders thing is touted in his promos as the greatest thing ever, but really what good did it do for the show itself in the long run? It all kinda blurs in one big gray mess in my memory, and all I keep thinking is how it could have worked with an actual writer in charge of the storyline, instead of running a 6 month feud that benefits nobody in particular and goes right back to square one. I felt the same way with his big HebbyQ win a few years ago, although I'm sure that's more on the NJPW office for not protecting their title enough than on him but still. Also why the fuck is he wrestling in sweatpants?
>>20140624I like the idea of Mox but actually watching him he's really boring
>>20140629I don't think he gets nearly as much heat as he thinks he does with his le epic badass heel antics. It's too fuckin dry and wishy washy.
>>20140624He poured his soul into that book and we never read it
>>20140624I've always liked him precisely because he's sloppy, but I'm not a big workrate-focused person (though I do enjoy a lot of workrate stuff) and I like the whole messy deathmatch vibeHis last world title run was definitely a clusterfuck though, and soured me on him for a while, but I've liked his current run. I think I just like him more as a tweener than a pure heel. If the Death Riders did anything for anyone it was Marina Shafir, she was a complete meme before but now she's decent.
>>20140624Not reading your wall of cope, Mox is GOATed.>>20140741>weYou and the gerbil in your ass may not have, but I did and it was excellent.
>>20140741His book was great, he got over big with me through that.
Asics & shorts Mox in Japan will always be his peak
>>20140818Okay, you dumb fucking mark
>>20140624he's too goofy, the way he stumbles and flails around like a drunk retard when he's getting beat up is unintentionally hilarious. also has shit ass punches and knees.
>>20140856I forget if it was in his book or on a podcast but I like how he admitted to getting high and going to the library
I've been feeling the same way about him ever since he was in wwe. i even liked the lunatic lariat, but the motherfucker couldn't throw a punch to save he's life. he wouldn't even make a fist for fuck's sake
>>20140700>and wishy washyThe fact that they've presented him as the most dastardly heel of all time, then a babyface, then a tweener, then a heel again within the span of the past year has killed any and all fucks I had left to give about this guy
>>20140624Marina would unironically be a better role model for men.Mox is just a pussy who can't do shit without backup and gets hard carried by Marina
>>20141295>the way he stumbles and flails around like a drunk retard when he's getting beat up is unintentionally hilariousHe's blatantly LARPing as Terry Funk with his selling, but somehow no one seems to catch on to that even though people can usually identify all the other bad cosplay/tribute bullshit in AEW.Like the floppy Looney Tunes selling like getting tangled in the ropes and shit, plus the blading, hardcore spots and "I'M CUHRAYZEE" promos. 100% Terry Funk cosplay
>>20140624I liked him in WWE a bit even with his PG shitYou would think in AEW he would have been a real star but all i found out from his AEW run is he shouldn't be allowed to do what he wants and needs to be produced otherwise he will just do retarded shit.
>>20140624WWE broke his brain, it's like when a kid gets bullied so hard that he refuses to accept criticism as anything but bullying, so now he rides his bike off cliffs and flips off everyone who begs him to stop
>>20140624Moxley is based and has great taste but he’s one of those guys who needs a filter or someone to fine tune his ideas or straight up tell him “no”, it’s why him and Vince were such a based duo but unfortunately Vince found him too funny and also punished him for mogging Seth and Roman he’s never gotten over itHis “king pin of WWE” and smackdown live run is still the best ace of the company run in WWE the last decade besides the Bloodline, and that was 1 year. The moment he got moved to RAW and back to being Roman and Seth’s lackey SD Live immediately fell apart and became soulless
>>20140624Moxley stopped improving as a performer. He has convinced himself that his act as it stands is enough to merit a permanent spot in the main event. It isn't. He's good enough to deserve a spot on any roster. He's even good enough to consistently maintain upper-midcard status on a deep and hypercompetitive roster. Yet despite all the little things he does well to portray a no-nonsense hardass in a business filled with people who try and fail at it, his talents cannot translate into a clearly defined character capable of driving a coherent and compelling storyline. Week after week, he's a ball of chaotic energy that hurls itself at an opponent. Over and over again. This is all that he is. When he ditched the tactical gear and began wrestling in street clothes as the Lunatic Fringe, he hit his ceiling. He's added some MMA moves to his offense, he gets to callback to his indie days by indulging in more shock value deathmatch spots, he went bald, and he occasionally alters his street clothes ring attire, but by and large he's still Dean Ambrose. I'm a fan of his overall, but I recognize that he lacks those traits a wrestler needs to carry a company as a top star.
>>20140624I’m going to say something really controversial here that’s going to piss a lot of you faggots off, but if you actually go back and watch wrestling matches from the late 90s, Mox isn’t any less sloppy than guys like Austin.
>>20144075Until he grabs a microphone
>>20140624Did he shoot start balding for real or does he just shave his head
>>20144099Sure, but Austin is probably the best promo of all time. That’s an extremely unfair comparison to make. Mox is a good promo in his own right, but saying “he’s no Austin” is a bit unfair seeing as Austin is the pretty much the GOAT. It would be like saying “oh x actor isn’t any good because they aren’t as good as Daniel Day Lewis”
>>20144128Mox has been balding since he debuted on the wwe main roster like 15 years ago kek. It’s been a long running meme here.
>>20144150I made the observation in response to a reply that implies they are comparable. OP is discussing Mox's shortcomings overall and not his in-ring work alone. That infamous moment on the Stone Cold podcast helps clarify why only one of those two will ever be in the GOAT conversation. Austin challenged Mox to level up and seize the opportunity to assert himself as the most can't-miss character on the show at a time when Ambrose was really over but losing momentum. Mox then gave Austin and everyone else his confused and defensive tardbabble about staying true to himself and sticking to what brought him to the dance. He's still stuck there a decade later. Good, not great, with no signs of ever becoming great.
>>20140856>>20140818haven't read mox's book (i will one day) but apparently the entire thing is written like this, is that a shoot?
>>20144338It's written exactly like that. There's an entire chapter about the art of sandwich making, with hand-drawn illustrated diagrams. He goes on at length about a pretzel sandwich he had once, where all the ingredients were right, but the way they cut it left him no viable angle of attack.
>>20144162Unfortunate. The bald look works well for him too tho
>>20144075>Mox isn’t any less sloppy than guys like AustinNo way. I do think Moxley is underrated in the ring by a lot of people, but Austin was a next level worker even well after his body broke down. There's just no comparison whatsoever. Fucker brawled and moved like he wanted to kill someone. You should go back and revisit Austin's 2001 matches with Rock, HHH, Benoit, Angle, etc with fresh eyes. People only remember WWF Austin being less impressive in the ring than he actually was because he had noticeably bad in-ring chemistry with Undertaker, and they wrestled each other like 200 times.
>>20144434Dude I’ve been on an Austin binge lately. He was sloppy as fuck and a lot of his shit honestly looks bad. Austin is the GOAT American wrestler for me but he was sloppy
>>20144338Oh, so does Mox have CTE or is he just stupid?
>>20144442I have no words to describe the contempt I have for gayEWtrannies and their dogshit retarded hot takes to excuse the fucking garbage they watchI genuinely and completely unironically hope you all fucking die
>>20144450it's called "being based"
>>20140624He's such a fucking nerd
>>20144035Mox is honestly my modern favorite, but I agree. He CAN be amazing and his first title run in AEW was great as a no bullshit babyface, but he's regressed since then and Tony doesn't have the balls to tell him no. Shame Vince saw him as a comedy guy
>>20144450Concussions probably played a part, but he grew up white trash in a dirt poor part of Cincinnati and became a cokehead from an extremely young age, that's why he's the way he is.He doesn't come across as a particularly dumb guy overall but his brains are obviously scrambled in that "former drug addict" way. I had a similar upbringing but half my extended family was fucked up on drugs so I coped by being a shut-in instead which is why I'm posting this at 1 in the morning
>>20144569Nah Mox is better than ever.
>>20143221>You wanna know why I'm dressed as The Mountie?
>>20143221>>20144629I think about that clip a lot, I know he fucking hated it but it was pretty fucking funny.
>>20143221gonna tell my kids this was Jacques Rougeau
Mox in the first NJPW run and early AEW run was lightning in a bottle. A true blue star in western wrestling outside the WWE. The guy you knew who would get you excited about guys you probably haven’t heard of.
>>20144619Is he? I took a break from AEW and recently came back and he's...fine. But he used to be so much better. I was a huge fan and as I said his first title reign was great. Hell, even the exploding deathmatch was great but got overshadowed by the lmao ending. Yet watching him now he just seems stale, and I took a long break from watching him. Maybe a real gimmick change, I don't know, but I do think he needs a filter for some of his dumber ideas.
tony needs to poach mitch for him
>>20144653>I took a long break from watching himIf you missed his heel reign of terror, he was genuinely awful for a while, and his current "stale but decent" run is actually a massive improvement from where he was a year ago. His feud with Edge was one of the worst AEW world title programs ever. They had an unironic Money in the Bank moment on the PPV with fucking Christian cashing in a title shot and eating the pin, then a pointless rematch on TV like a week later. It was the last thing anyone wanted to see from an "alternative" promotion to WWE, especially with all the Bloodline-tier interference spots.
>>20144653Both his matches with Takeshita were masterpieces.>>20144715Nah his reign of terror was based and I hope they do it again but longer this time.
>>20144715I forget when I quit watching but it was pre Death Riders. I heard it was bad here and not funny bad so never bothered. Started watching again at Revolution. Seeing him now is just kind of like seeing a midcarder you like in WWE, take a break, come back, and he's in the exact same place. Except I KNOW Mox can do better so it's a little more frustrating. And it seems like he ran out of good ideas. Maybe a break would help, Jericho had the same problemAs an aside I used to hate Yuta but he's entertaining as a lackey borderline jobber pin eater now for Death Riders now
>>20144075>>20144442Nah man these two guys operate on two very different wavelengths of sloppiness. When Austin, as a guy who had to adopt a brawling to save his career, is being messy in the ring and knocking stuff over in a seemingly careless fashion, he's not straying away from the logic and the psychology of his character, and if anything it adds to the intensity of his bouts, making them look ''real''. Same with Foley, same with Funk, same with Brody...etc. But for Mox imo he tends to break the immersion with two very flagrant types of sloppiness.>Trying to mix up a brawling wildman style with grounded Yuki Ishikawa style MMA techniques and ''fighting spirit'' psychologyAnd it all doesn't gel very well in his matches, he's not graceful enough to make it all fit. So one second he's throwing (terrible) worked punches, then he's transitioning into a jujigatame, and then by the finish he'll be doing fighting spirit kings road nosells when he's supposed to be a cheating heel, all the while missing the real hook of the whole work which is how the characters make the audience feel. What he ends up coming across as is a cosplay wrestler, which is the same problem that's been plaguing a lot of AEW stuff, most notably with his pal Eddie's Kawada-lite work. He's too stuck on lame surface level badassery desu. Being a tweener is just a cop out to me.>The move to move stuffFor all the shits and giggles anons were having over the webm of MJF bent over for a minute whilst Bandido was setting up his moves, I must have seen Mox do shit like that a 100 times before. It's like he's checked out for a couple of seconds and acts like an idle animation from SvR or something. His limb work selling is god awful as well. Don't know why you're gonna need to spent 15 minutes of your match working on an arm only to use said arm to put your opponent away. That shit drives my autism nuts.
>>20144619Really? I'm curious to hear you articulate why you think so.
>>20144715Nah, Christian pinning Cope with one hand while in Moxley's bulldog choke would have been kino.
>>20140624why is he trying to cosplay as both Austin and Terry Funk though? Ramen and Jasethy are at least trying to find something original.
I thought we've always agreed that he's a good promo and he carries himself well but he's not very good as an in-ring wrestler.
>Actually discussing a wrestler and his work in earnestBest /pw/ thread in months. Thank you anons.
>>20140624He's always had terrible matches and been cringe with his le whacky antics. The only time he was hot was when he was put in situations that would make anyone white hot. It wasn't because of him, it was creative making him look good but that didn't last very long because it didn't draw.
>>20145209lol, lmao evenHe got hired in the first place because he did promos in shithole indies with his own camera that could instantly sell you into a match.
>>20145202Seriously, doesn't matter who I agree or don't agree with in here, this thread is more valuable than 10,000 ratings/simp/consolewar threads
>>20145071His in-ring stuff was more subtle (in wrestling terms lol) and more effective a few years ago, mainly because he was more concerned with character dynamics than taking crazy bumps or being taken seriously for his death jitsu. He was booked like shit for the majority of his run in WWE, and he managed to consistently stay over with that crowd due to how well he connected through his work. I could never consider a guy who managed to have an excellent match with a mega roided Pauletty in 2016 anything but a good wrestler.
>>20144822>Really? I'm curious to hear you articulate why you think so.'cause he good
>>20145209Delusional cultist post.
>>20140624He's Stone Cold but a millennial
>>20141295Him stumbling around like a drunk retard is a shoot
>>20145234you couldn't even quote a single DEAN promo, ya stupid gAyEWtoid
>>20140624The reality is this faggot just sucks and that’s why he’s in some d-league Indy and not the majors anymore
>>20141295I hated a lot of his Dean Ambrose solo run because he was too wacky. I thought it was just Vince giving bad creative but now he's still too wacky but you're supposed to see it as badass now
>>20144128This might be the dumbest post I’ve ever seen
If you talk shit about Mox to my face I'll knock you the fuck out, and that's a shoot.
>>20146327No shit because the good promos weren't written by some jewish faggot in a Connecticut corporate family entertainment company for "Dean".>what goes up, must come down>possessions make you a target>fragile mind, fragile body, weak ego, weak spiritNow fuck off.
>>20146696kek roasted that porker
>>20146647If you look anything like Jon Moxley you will very regularly encounter people who have severe trouble understanding that maybe shaving your head isn't simply a fashion choice.
>>20144370/ourguy/
>>20144338Based, now all he needs is to make a Hot Pocket live promo and then we can compare it to the Undertakers desert promo and decide which is more dimes.
>>20147588MMMM SNAKESKIN BOOTS
