>watch WCW slamboree 1996>3 hour long fucking shitfest PPV of random tag matches, winner of the final battle royal gets a world title shot>DDP wins but cheats>his title shot is revoked the next day on nitro rendering the entire PPV pointlessw...what?
>>20154475>DDP wins but cheatsGonna need a little more info on this one, pal
>>20154480he got eliminated when the ref wasn't paying attention and then "won" stone cold rumble style
>>20154490You seem cool, but the ref missing a call is not cheating. You must be a Duke fan.
there was a wrestlemania (that one in dallas) that basically every single result got overturned on the raw the next day
>>20154591mania 32 I thinkgod what a shitty mania
>>20154475WCW did this kind of shit all the time. Guys would win titles and have them stripped on Nitro the next night all the time. The dumbest part was the people getting their titles taken would win it back anyway
>>20154536>the refs don't rig every basketball game
>>20154647Like the time they threw the WCW World Title on Benoit as a last ditch effort to get him to stay but he left anyway the night he won the title.
>>20154730one time parker or sherri cheated to let harlem heat win, they got the titles stripped the next night, and then won them back the same night.
>>20154475Nothing was ever straightforward with them and it always wore out the welcome anytime they struck something
>>20154787Parker was ding-dong diddly based. King Harley Race too. Ted Dibiase was alright I guess but he left his buck dead not broken. iykyk
>>20154475Was Sting really an E-God? He wanted WWF to win so he stopped tanning. If so, based! Finna.
https://www.blogofdoom.com/rant/the-smark-rant-for-wcw-superbrawl-vii/Speaking of bad comedy, it’s more nWo booking. See, Luger had a “broken arm” and thus couldn’t get medical clearance to wrestle, so Giant is forced to go it alone. Can you SMELL the screwjob, or do I have to spell it out for you? Hall gets tossed around by Giant to start. Ditto for Nash. Syxx finally comes in and blasts Giant with the Cruiserweight belt, to give Nash a two-count. Nash runs through his usual lazy offense. Wow, he’s 7 feet tall AND he can stick his leg in the air like a dog taking a piss? What an athlete! Hall and Syxx take cheapshots from the outside. Giant fights back, but ANOTHER shot from the Cruiserweight title allows Nash to powerbomb Giant. Okay, that looked cool, I’ll give ‘em that. Lex Luger of course then comes to ring and tags himself in, racking Nash for the submission at 8:52 to win the tag titles. BUT, and this is the important part, Giant then chokeslams Hall and has the referee specifically count that as the official pin for good measure. Tony then makes absolutely sure to specifically point out that Giant (the legal competitor) pinning Scott Hall eliminates any chance of Eric Bischoff returning the titles to the Outsiders on a technicality the next night on Nitro. So what happens the next night on Nitro? Eric Bischoff returns the titles to the Outsiders on a technicality. WAS ANYBODY ACTUALLY WATCHING THEIR OWN SHOW??? What am I thinking, of course not.
>>20155251I wonder if booking weekly TV wrestling is actually really hard because no one seems to have done it well for more than 4-5 years at a time.
>>20154475WCW had AEW tier booking around this, the talent is carrying the show hard
>>20155263Probably. About 5 years is the lifespan of any show before people start running out of ideas IMO so booking teams should have turnover every 4 or 5 years too.
>>20155263They'd rotate the book in Memphis to specifically avoid this issue. But all that helps is the creative. Don't forget you're also managing a roster of carny retards, and then have to account for injuries, illness, no-shows, fan reactions, etc., etc. You can plan out something perfect, and then it can immediately go to shit. Or sometimes it doesn't even work the way you thought it would to begin with, because you're then relying on talent, agents, and producers whose abilities are beyond your control.
>>20154475The most normal WCW show
>>20155263nobody has written good weekly television for that long and wrestling shouldnt be any easier to write
>>20155263a dictator with kooky ideas > infinite number of chiefs but no injuns
>>20154730The WCW title was consistently treated like a lame prop time and time again. Flair left the company with the belt and was parading it around on WWF tv in 1991 for example.
>>20155263The truth is that bookers and writers make it harder upon by themselves by not having a proper well thought out plan. There was this story about one of head writers during the attitude era (might have been Koskey) getting laughed at during a meeting because he brought over a storyboard. But then again sometimes the situations were so messy that no competent booker could salvage it, such as Kevin Sullivan trying to save WCW in late 2000.I'd say it has been more chaotic and therefore more difficult to manage a roster of freakazoids in the 90s, but there is absolutely no excuse for either WWE or AEW to be consistently pumping out weak and aimless weekly TV at this point. The schedules are lighter, the roster is more cooperative, the resources are available etc.
>>20154730Bit mad how whenever this happened to WCW (they put the belt on several guys who then subsequently left for WWF over WCW's lifetime), it was nowhere near as overplayed as the Montreal Screwjob.
>>20155842yeah it's called having a vision
>>20154475>SlumbereeLmao
>>20154647Or deliberately omitting that the Piper/Hogan match at starrcade 96 or SuperBrawl 97 was not a title match. Piper wins, audience at home and live think he won the title. "Not so fast, we never said it was for the title. It was a non title match." Shit was ass cheeks.
>>20158621kek based Hollywood got this dude seething 30 years later
