This is the destination for all based webms, brotherOn tonight's docket: Action from DDT, NOAH, AJPW, Death Pain Invitacional and maybe more!
I'm starting off with what I watched from DDT's Judgement show!
What the FUCK is his problem? Look at his smile. He's loving this.
BASED
Bases
I can't not like KANON. I think his SLC look and persona is a huge downgrade, but I really like him in the ring still. He's been one of my favorite midcarders in DDT for a good while and it's nice to see that pay off, even though I liked him more as part of Damnation TA.
Then again, hard for me to not love a lariat merchant.
>>20261214>based webmsjust how we like em
>>20261994>based anonsHell yeah.
And onto Change Age! I'll probably have the tag title match from this show too, I just didn't get around to it.
CHOPPA FOR ALL
First time seeing Umeda wrestle and he rocks.
KINO
Put such a huge smile on my face. I'm gonna miss him.
Next up is NOAH Apex Conquest!
Koyanagi ROCKS.
BASED KOBASHIIST
The current crop of NOAH rookies is so much fun to watch.
What the fuck did they mean by this? Either of them?
Love how Inamura just CRASHES through these elbows.
Great sells from Alpha Wolf in this match.
>>20261338>>20261384I thought DDT was the joke promotion, but these guys a laying it on.
>hardways with headbuttTireman just gets better.>>20265227Never was. DDT has comedy matches, but their top titles are played (mostly) straight.
DISCHAAAAAAAAGIIIIIIIIIIIII
I'm going to start out with the first Champion Carnival show, unsure if I'll have time for it all.
>>20261214Haha time for the best thread of the week
God, I love Sekimoto's German.>>20266578Happy to have you, brother. Check this guy out >>20261280
>>20261280>>20266599>the babby's reactionHoly based, I'm a mark for that kinda stuff.
That's all for me for today! Tomorrow I'll have the rest of this show, Death Vegas Invitacional and probably close out on some King's Road!>>20266625Had a feeling you'd like that one. I'm leaving the thread with you for now and I'll be back tomorrow.
>>20261838He's a good midcarder. Like you I preferred his look during Damnation. Him gaining all that weight was probably to push him up as heavyweight since DDT doesn't have a big pool of players of that range. Then I personally can't vibe with him, they trying to make him act in tune with MAO when clearly he doesn't have that kind of charisma or personality, not every wrestle can be the main character (thank god).I liked this match with Ueno, even if they didn't work much together in the past was definitely a good show with really cool spots but in comparison to his last defense against Iino I can definitely tell that Ueno felt more comfortable with Iino than Kanon.
>>20266810Goodnight, based webmbro. Eurobros etc will try to keep it bumped.
I would make Webms of the RAWBOWL I just watched, but it doesn't actually mean anything without the rancid commentary
>>20267777Can someone please force feed this woman whatever they were giving the AJW wrestlers? I want to like her but she's so rail thin
>>20267938Makes her even more appealing to me.
One last bump from me
>>20268672>me on the way to bump the webm thread, realizing i don't have to but doing it anyway
I'm back! Thank you all for keeping us bumped.>>20267055It makes me so happy to see posts like this because sometimes it feels like I'm the only one on the board who watches wrestling. >Him gaining all that weight was probably to push him up as heavyweight since DDT doesn't have a big pool of players of that range.I don't know, I feel like he was always kind of stocky. I even went back to the webm I made of him back when he was in JTO and while he's not as big as he is now he was never small. He's got one of my favorite builds in current wrestling, personally. He's not as tall as Kobashi but he has almost the exact shape, and that'll always be my favorite body type for a wrestler.>>20267938On the topic of wrestler body types, I've read that the ability to put on weight was highly valued with wrestlers in AJW, hence why girls like Bull Nakano, Aja Kong and Dump Matsumoto got heavy pushes and became very popular. I'm not sure if it's a visual thing or if it's bump cushioning or both, though with AJW's retirement rule I could see it being with their safety in mind. Standards have clearly changed though, in both of those departments.
>>20271249>I'm not sure if it's a visual thing or if it's bump cushioning or bothI recall an interview with Asuka where she said she liked to keep a bit fat to make bump taking easier. She was already in America at the time so she might have just wanted to eat burgers all day but it makes sense to me
You've heard of leg lariat, now get ready for leg lariat!>>20271632I'm sure there's a reason almost every wrestler in Japan at the time was rocking some kind of strongfat build, I just don't have a source on hand.
I like that Shiozaki's version of the Mutoh-style moveset-trimming as he got older is to just do lariats. Only.
Next up is what I got from Death Vegas Invitacional!
I really didn't get much out of this show. This match should in theory be exactly my thing, but as much as I like both Abe and ZSJ on their own, as as good as their matchup should be on paper, they don't mesh as well as I'd like. You can tell Abe is holding back, and Abe holding back is only about 30% as entertaining as Abe going Retard Super Saiyan 3. It's a shame, but I can't think of very many people outside of Abe's usual circle that could hang both in grappling and in strikes with him that would also be able to get booked here.
>>20272724And the rest of the show... The American deathmatch style just doesn't appeal to me, and I don't like the wrestlers performing it either. I didn't exactly expect to be blown away or anything, but having watched it now I really don't feel bad about missing the DDT / GCW crossover shows. Validated a lot of preconceived notions for me.
Based bump thoughbeit
Speaking no moon rune and making educated guesses, I'd imagine they're writing æ», the kanji for "death", given the general theme of their feud, this match, and also as a nod to other wrestlers spelling that in blood. But I honestly can't tell when it's written by two people who are half-blind from glass dust in their eyes and writing with their foreheads. If anyone more educated knows I'd happily be corrected!
Next up are two webms I got from the tag title match on DDT Change Age, and then I'm moving onto King's Road!I dislike this strike combo a lot and I still ended up making a webm of this because I'm THAT much of a mark for leg sweeps.
>>20272506I was so disappointed by this show. I hadn't followed the card (and had to download it 3 times for some fuckin reason) only to watch a mediocre GCW show? Props to Rina for getting the shit beat out of her, she tried the hardest to make main event work.
Pants off, bros. You know what time it is. This is MIsawa vs. Shinzaki from 11.10.1998. Those paying attention might have noticed that this is a slight jump back in time, and that's because I scrolled by this in my downloads and completely missed it when making webms. >>20274829There's just such a huge difference in the styles between American and Japanese deathmatch wrestling, and I say that as someone who's largely not a fan of Japanese hardcore wrestling either. Such a weird post-match promo, too. Maybe I'm just not in on the GCW mentality, but all the other matches in the Kasai/Despy series have had a very emotional and serious throughline, and then Gage closes it out with IM DA FUCKING HARDEST AND TOUGHEST GUY AND IF U EVER FUCK WITH ME ILL FUCKIN KILL U MAN YEAH THATS RIGHT
>>20271249Shiozaki is one of the MVPs of the Carnival already. You can tell he's really motivated. I'm not sure if the issues he had with NOAH last year is still grinding his gears a bit and he's out to prove something or what but this match with Anzai is easily the best one he's had since returning to AJPW.
>>20275350I'm excited to watch more! Suzuki vs. Kikuta was a match I called for when Kikuta was in last year's CC, so that's one I'm really looking forward to. I'm going to try to cover as much of the CC as I can find the time for, so look forward to that!
>>20261214
>>20275350AJPW is my favorite active men's promotion right now, significantly in part due to based Go.
ABUNAAAAAAAAAAAAI
>move only ever used once>still well-known and namedI wonder how this happens. I assume he elaborated on it in interviews, but still. It's very interesting to me that he liked it enough to name it but still never found a way to use it again.
KAITEN ERUBOOOOOOOO
Next up is Holy Demon Army vs. Team UWF from 31.10.1998! Such a fun match with an especially charismatic performance from Taue.
This enzuigiri is one of Taue's best and it's against against one of his tallest opponents ever. Looks amazing.
Kawada still doesn't like Kakihara much.
A very surprisingly kind looking elbow drop from someone like Takayama.
God DAMN what a dropkick.
SLAPPA
I absolutely adore Kawada's slam and kick combo. There's such FURY in every one.
The explosivity in this first big boot. So damn good.
And next up, and closing out tonight, is Misawa vs. Kobashi for the Triple Crown, from the same night.
This is fucking brutal. Something so effective about how uncoordinated and simple it is.
Chincrusher > stunnerSorry not sorry
Kobashi's such a good seller.
>protagonist uses the special move of the villain from a previous arcK I N OINO
>>20264238Naito can't time anything right anymore but he nail spitting on a nigga's face while said nigga tries throwing spinning shit
I personally really don't like the thigh-clutch Boston Crab, but the pop this gets makes it worth it.>>20281963And it took all his power to do it because he spends the rest of the spot in his idle animation
>>20281504PANTS OFF indeed>>20271249>I'm back! Thank you all for keeping us bumped.o7
I love this escape.>>20282003Thanks as always, bumpCHAD.
ERUBOOOOOOOOO SUICIDAAAAAAAAAA
>>20282115I still don't know how he does it but Misawa's elbow suicide is just so smooth and unique. He was the best at it, imo.
Goes without saying but God damn Misawa's elbows are so brutal.>>20282125I honestly can't think of basically anyone else who does one. If you're talking suicide dives in general, I'd agree.>that cautious little smile as everyone storms the ring and raises his handNot hard to see why people were so into his charisma.
Cute how they're teasing a finisher Misawa only used briefly three years prior.
Misawa just EATS IT here.
>>20282162Samoe Joe's elbow suicida comes closes, from the top of my head. But Misawa is just special.>>20282222Checked
I love the detail of Kobashi spotting the buckle over his shoulder and subtly aligning himself with it before attempting the next lift.>>20282255I totally forgot him, I'll be honest. Good call. But I'm pretty sure his usage of it is a direct Misawa homage. I can't think of anyone doing it outside of that.
I really like the urgency that people have against Misawa knowing any single elbow could end it.
Maybe it's controversial, but I absolutely adore the decision to debut the Burning Hammer and then not have it succeed in the title match. It makes the threat of it so much more present in the future.
God damn, Kobashi.
TAIGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA DORAIBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
God, Kobashi was so good at taking this move.
LARIATOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Love the way Kobashi falls here.
And how he falls here. A bit more subtle but just as good.
That's all for this week! Next week you'll get NJPW's Dontaku show and hopefully more coverage of the Champion Carnival! I'm not sure what else I'll run across or have time for, but I'm sure there'll be a King's Road match or two to fill out the thread if nothing else. Thank you all for hanging out another weekend! I'll see you all next week. Goodnight, bros.
>>20282273>But I'm pretty sure his usage of it is a direct Misawa homageIt indeed is.>>20282712Thank you, based webmbro.
>>20281649>>20281274These are the sorts of spots I wish more people would steal. Less of the I HIT YOU YOU HIT ME or ridiculous neck drops, more 'dude fucking crumples from hits' and 'dudes crash into each other awkwardly cause its a fight'.Old NJPW has a lot of stuff like this too. And basically every Arn match. Even the older flippy fast guy matches did makes-sense stuff you don't see now, or creative shit thats ignored because people skip past it for the bigger flippy shit they wanna copy.
>>20282664In your honor I just rewatched that match. Insane.>>20282370...and the one-two combo did!
*sip*
>>20282972>'dude fucking crumples from hits' and 'dudes crash into each other awkwardly cause its a fight'.You'd love Usuda. He's one of the best at Just Swinging
>>20276518Match?
