He's a good midcarder. Like you I preferred his look during Damnation. Him gaining all that weight was probably to push him up as heavyweight since DDT doesn't have a big pool of players of that range.
Then I personally can't vibe with him, they trying to make him act in tune with MAO when clearly he doesn't have that kind of charisma or personality, not every wrestle can be the main character (thank god).

I liked this match with Ueno, even if they didn't work much together in the past was definitely a good show with really cool spots but in comparison to his last defense against Iino I can definitely tell that Ueno felt more comfortable with Iino than Kanon.

I don't know, I feel like he was always kind of stocky. I even went back to the webm I made of him back when he was in JTO and while he's not as big as he is now he was never small. He's got one of my favorite builds in current wrestling, personally. He's not as tall as Kobashi but he has almost the exact shape, and that'll always be my favorite body type for a wrestler.

On the topic of wrestler body types, I've read that the ability to put on weight was highly valued with wrestlers in AJW, hence why girls like Bull Nakano, Aja Kong and Dump Matsumoto got heavy pushes and became very popular. I'm not sure if it's a visual thing or if it's bump cushioning or both, though with AJW's retirement rule I could see it being with their safety in mind. Standards have clearly changed though, in both of those departments.

I recall an interview with Asuka where she said she liked to keep a bit fat to make bump taking easier. She was already in America at the time so she might have just wanted to eat burgers all day but it makes sense to me

I really didn't get much out of this show. This match should in theory be exactly my thing, but as much as I like both Abe and ZSJ on their own, as as good as their matchup should be on paper, they don't mesh as well as I'd like. You can tell Abe is holding back, and Abe holding back is only about 30% as entertaining as Abe going Retard Super Saiyan 3. It's a shame, but I can't think of very many people outside of Abe's usual circle that could hang both in grappling and in strikes with him that would also be able to get booked here.

And the rest of the show... The American deathmatch style just doesn't appeal to me, and I don't like the wrestlers performing it either. I didn't exactly expect to be blown away or anything, but having watched it now I really don't feel bad about missing the DDT / GCW crossover shows. Validated a lot of preconceived notions for me.

Speaking no moon rune and making educated guesses, I'd imagine they're writing 死, the kanji for "death", given the general theme of their feud, this match, and also as a nod to other wrestlers spelling that in blood. There's just such a huge difference in the styles between American and Japanese deathmatch wrestling, and I say that as someone who's largely not a fan of Japanese hardcore wrestling either. Such a weird post-match promo, too. Shiozaki is one of the MVPs of the Carnival already. You can tell he's really motivated. I'm not sure if the issues he had with NOAH last year is still grinding his gears a bit and he's out to prove something or what but this match with Anzai is easily the best one he's had since returning to AJPW.
