This is the destination for all based webms, brotherOn tonight's docket: NJPW Road to Wrestling Dontaku, AJPW Champion Carnival and more!
Still some stupid frame issues with this first NJPW show, but I managed to get a second source for the second one. Looking like it'll be messy for today's show, but I'm going to hold out on the webms until tomorrow to see if I can't get a second source.
Yuya is PISSED
>oskar's little slow clap
So fucking cool. More Oiwa and higher on the card, please.
This whole interaction is so fucking good. Matsumoto has really shot up in my Young Lion rankings recently.
Cool. This is the kinda thing that's entirely built on how convincing you can make it and these two sell it very well.
Basef
GO TOP GUY GO
Newman does a great job making it look like there's a lot of weight to everything here.
Really, really good sequence.
This looks so good. Love how Goto bumps for the kick, too.
Sucks that the camera misses half of this, but I do really like the dropdown.
I really wanted UE to win this match, you could always have Bishamon challenge after, they're always gonna have a spot in the title scene and I like Henare and )ka as a team. Sadly, they were no match for monster YOSH kicking out of a chair piledriver.
I like how cartoony this sell is.
Next up is tag 2 of the Champion Carnival!
I don't usually love strike counters to dives, but there's so much force to this one that they win me over. Suzuki selling the arm after is a nice touch too.
Oops, missed this. Absolutely loves the conversion.
I really like this suplex. Good sell on the sleeper from Jun too, stumbling after the palm strike to land the lariat.
God DAMN this has to suck to do.
For such a one move guy, Kikuta's leg lariat is so fucking good. I really wish more guys would do the standing version, it's one of my favorite moves.
>>20334749I liked Honda vs Kikuta but it started off a lot slower than I was expecting which hurt it for me some. That said the Carnival this year has produced a lot of great matches so I can't complain. Whatever AJPW had to do to figure things out has been starting to pay off even if they still got some things to iron out too.
>>20334922I was expecting pure hoss bullshittery out the gate for these two, but I think KIkuta looks really good in the grappling stage as well, makes his power moves stand out that much more once he starts dropping them.>That said the Carnival this year has produced a lot of great matches so I can't complainI agree. I'm planning on posting night 3 tomorrow, so stay tuned!
Brutal. I love and hate a lariat that wraps around the neck.
>>20335409Shiozaki has been firing on all cylinders the entire Carnival and I love it.
>>20335424He's been really good. I think the move from HAVOC to main unit is good for him too, I wasn't sure about him fitting them.
>>20335496Far as I know Shiozaki hasn't left Havoc despite not repping them in his outfit in any way right now. He just tends not to start up Havoc chants or anything like Ashino, Odyssey, or Xyon.
Shiozaki's superplex is so weird. I really like it, but that lift is so scary every time.>>20335537I don't speak Japanese, so it's based on conjecture from my part, but during his entrance for the Talos match commentary says something like "HAVOC no Shiozaki Go janai, Zen Nihon Puroresu no Shiozaki Go da" which, from my half-knowledge, means "Shiozaki's not HAVOC, he's just All Japan"
Next up is a match I didn't know existed until this week, it's Kawada facing Takayama on big T's home turf, in UWF-i on 11.09.1996. This is their first encounter, and they would rematch a year later in AJPW in a match that I somehow completely missed on my King's Road coverage. This is a fun one!
While it's not the ultra-iconic bleached blonde, this might honestly be my second favorite Takayama look. He looks awesome here.
This German bump seems... Ill-advised.
That's all for me for tonight, and actually all that I've got on me! Tomorrow you'll get the next day of the Champion Carnival, the 24.4 NJPW show (unfortunately probably still slightly frame-y) and probably some King's Road to close us out! I have run into more trouble than usual with good sources this week, so I'm a little behind on my webms. Hopefully I have time to get caught up with what I plan to for tomorrow night! Thank you all for hanging out. I'll see you then! Goodnight, bros.
>>20329554Haha time for the best thread of the week!>>20336500Thank you based webmbro.
>>20336500
*sip*
>>20337380I met this guy backstage once and this is how he is 100% of the time.
anything from these two matches will be appreciatedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjKKVhBnt2ghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4Rm190R3V4
>>20337380Delightfully devilishii
I'm back! Thank you all for keeping us bumped. I'm starting out with yesterday's Dontaku show.>>20337653I'd love to, but I can't promise anything. I'm still very behind on watching and clipping my own stuff this week. If I don't get around to it tonight I'm sure I can do it next week.
>>20340265No worries webm bro, whenever you have the time
Jases
Really good sell here. Yuto's really got a knack for this stuff.
>boss music starts
Fucking beautiful.
Next up is day 3 of the Champion Carnival!
He's got such insane gremlin phrenology.
I dedicate this webm to that one anon who made OC of their previous interactions.
I was recommended to ask here but how do I use my active WU subscription to pull videos for personal storage? I usually watch live then have a copy in my wrestling drive so I can pull up old shows in a blink. >IDM (paid) doesn't work >yt-dl doesn't work>browser plugins don't work>screen recording works BUT my computer is shit and the output has dropped frames
>>20340834>>yt-dl doesn't workis your install of yt-dlp up to date? I haven't tried WU but its still listed in their supported sites list
>>20340834What I do is look for a full upload of the show on a site that yt-dlp DOES grab from, VK tends to be the most consistent. You are at the mercy of uploaders that way, but webms just look so much better from a direct source rather than a screen recording. You probably could get screen recordings to be as good, but even if you did, computer performance and all, you'd still have to manually record every spot you wanted which is a LOT of work. (Believe me, I used to record ~100 webms a week. It's not fun.)>>20340871This is news to me. I thought for sure WU was blocked, but I checked now and it does in fact work. NJPWWorld, however, is blocked.
GOD I love this spot so fucking much.
>>20340916Can you share your parameters/arguments? And more importantly am I making a blunder by trying to retrieve playlists ending in ~1080p_2997fps.m3u8 ? I don't know if --cookies-from-browser will help me at all but I'm trying to use Brave as the main way to view WU and for some reason if I enter that, I always get an immediate error that it wasn't able to retrieve cookies from that browser. >>20340916VK is just a re-compression of an already compressed format, I'm trying to keep the quality as close to source as possible. Also, VK seems to offer 1080p by doing nearest neighbor upscale on a 720p source and you can see it quite painfully.
Mostly made this webm for that kick. Gross.>>20341118I literally just run the link in there, but I've never tried to download a playlist. I just go one at a time, multiple instances of Powershell if I need more videos.>I don't know if --cookies-from-browser will help me at allI'd imagine it would. Are you closing Brave before you run it? That caused issues for me before. Even if Brave is how you normally view WU, try logging in to Firefox or whatever and then closing the browser and using those cookies. You may be right about the VK stuff, you clearly know more than me on the subject. I know that for my purposes (4MB webms at 540p) whatever you end up with after ripping a VK video is plenty.
>>20341172I'll try just doing the video url instead of the playlist, and with a cookies.txt pulled from firefox. I personally used to make webms for this site too but even with the start of HEVC support 4mb is just too fucking awful for me to deal with, on top of nonstop captcha shit. Even just going 50% higher to 6mb will allow for less block artifacts and more motion but hiroshimoot refuses to budge. Your patience is a virtue.
I'm not that anon, but I've also been thinking about archiving my favorite matches for posterity. What software do you use to edit out clips after you've obtained the raw footage?
Baffling to me. WHY does this basketball dropout height merchant have the meanest elbow in current AJPW? >>20341212>4mb is just too fucking awful for me to deal withI think I've worked out most of the kinks by now, but I won't pretend all of my webms are perfect. Going above 20 seconds, especially with a well-lit venue or a lot of camera movement, is a huge gamble. Going back and looking at my first webms that I screen recorded and made for the 3MB limit, it's fucking insane that I got a following at all on here. Goes to show that there are people on here that really just want to talk about wrestling.>>20341243I use WebmConverter, formerly Webm for Retards/Webm for Lazys. I've heard good things about Handbrake too, but I never learned how to work it.
>>20341303Webm for retards,Handbrake, and Vidcoder all just different GUI wrappers (frontends) for ffmpeg. They all have their pros and cons, I use Vidcoder for its ease of use but it has no preview for crop dimensions unlike the others, and no unique app instances so if it's in the middle of a long render you can pause it but can't switch to work on a smaller file.
>>20341172>I literally just run the link in thereStill brick walled. I dumped the Brave cookies to file because it turns out my fox-like browser is old enough that WU just doesn't let it log in.
>>20341243The above posts are all you need. But for funsies, if you want to cut up whole shows, you could consider learning Davinci Resolve. It's free now and who knows you might get a taste for video editing.
>>20340600Carnival been so good this year
>>20341441It's been great, I agree. Even with one big player injured it feels like the momentum is still going strong. Aoki filling in is exciting, too.
Rookie facing a more experienced wrestler, impatient shotgun dropkick to start. Classic. Works every time.
>>20341564sorry to bother but can you just paste your exact argument in like I had in the top line of >>20341398? I'm troubleshooting, doesn't matter what url you have
CHOPPA>>20341708.\yt-dlp.exe [LINK] --cookies-from-browser firefoxThis is all I got. Worked fine for me.
>>20341729Yeah I actually hate this, I found a discussion>https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/issues/13818but it's power users that know way more about this than I do and the issue was abandoned without anyone presenting more than "I did (thing not explained at all to lay viewers) and recompiled and now it works"
>>20341819Yeah, I've run into similar before. Sometimes just putting -vU after the link miraculously fixes it. Sometimes removing it does. Sorry I can't do more for you.
>casually vinces himselfBased?
Took me a lot of relistening and Googling to parse the very excited commentator screaming RIDE THE LIGHTNING DADDY
>the head pat that worked thousands of fujos
I can't tell if this is improv'd just based on the chair position. Looks awesome regardless.
Here's one webm where I wish I could just have another megabyte of size just to get this a little less muddy.
IMMEDIATE pay cut for the producer who missed this shot.
Repeat of this spot. I love it so much.
SLICK.
Got help from someone who knows more about Python than I do. I had to recompile yt-dlp with some user's fixes for wrestleuniverse.py from a bug report, which is intended to bypass the DRM that Wrestle Universe uses.
>>20342561Hell yeah, brother. If you end up making any webms, you know where to post them!
It's time to walk the King's Road, since we didn't officially do that last night. Pants off, bros! This is another match out of order, because I somehow didn't know this match happened. This is the rematch I mentioned yesterday, Takayama vs. Kawada from 21.10.1997!
I absolutely adore the way this opens. Takayama forces Kawada to go toe-to-toe UWF-style with another striker, and it's so good.
>>20342736I'm used to seeing Takayama as an old man (or in a wheelchair) so this is refreshing Has he made any progress? Ohtani was able to move his extremities last I read and that was a lot more recent, 2022 I think.
Holy FUUUUUUUUCK this sell is perfect. /HEEM/chads WW@>>20342738He was on commentary for last year's Takayamania. Granted, he didn't say much, but it says a lot that he could be present. He can sit up on his own while holding a bar, as of 9 month ago, which is a ton better than it has been.
The strangest thing happens after the opening exchanges in this match. Kawada looks scared. Understandably so, but still. I wouldn't need two hands to count all the times I've seen that.
>>20340600I had low expectations for this match because I didn't like Oddyssey's match with Rei Saito that much but this one was surprisingly decent enough. It's been obvious Xyon and Oddssey has struggled a bit in the Carnival since it's their first time and they tend to work better together than separate as singles wrestlers.
>>20342807I've only seen one Kawada singles match ever, the one vs Misawa in June 1994. It was really good.
>>20342824Yeah, Oddyssey's half gotten over with me by just being willing to work bullshit crowd pop fanservice matches all the time. Suzuki getting a genuinely good match out of them helped too.>>20342825You should fix that! I highly recommend checking out his early feud with Taue, or the other matches from the UWF-I invasion if you want something less important.https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1v0knhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9dCEWnFkDg
>>20342849It's on the list, but the backlog is eternal.
>>20342854I know that feel, brother.
That second abisegiri is so damn good.
Next up is Misawa & Ogawa vs. Hansen & Vader from 14.11.1998!
Ogawa making 1998 Japan look like 1981 Memphis.
BASED
Next up is Kobashi & Akiyama vs. Hansen & Vader, from the Real World Tag League finals, 05.12.1998!
One of my favorite DDT sequences ever. I love the strikes to set it up, and the shot of Hansen after is so good.
>>20342736Kawada getting battered!
*SPLAT*>>20343507He gets absolutely ZERO in for the first almost 10 minutes too. Such an interesting match.
>>20343330When your team is against Kobashi and Akiyama and Kobashi and Akiyama are by far the underdogs you know your team is OP>>20343291God forbid a white boy show a little emotion
What a lift.>>20343713>When your team is against Kobashi and Akiyama and Kobashi and Akiyama are by far the underdogs you know your team is OPThat was Vader's one complaint about his time in AJPW. He felt as if they couldn't believably be beat.>God forbid a white boy show a little emotionThe best part is that he (convincingly and cleanly) won the match. He just wanted to start shit for fun
>>20343768>He just wanted to start shit for funBased>He felt as if they couldn't believably be beat.Case in point, the webm you posted. Before Akiyama gets tossed you can see Hansen slightly smirking. Good stuff.
>the angels blessing kobashi with the jankiest angle ever, giving him a chance to pay hansen back for all those fucked up neck-ruining lariatsPURE KINO
That's all for me for this week! Next week I'll be covering more of the Dontaku tour, and hopefully I'll also have time for NOAH's show from this week, more from the CC and Aoki's Produce show. It's ambitious but I'm going to do my best. Thank you all for hanging out this week! I'll see you all next week with plenty more fresh OC wrestling action. Goodnight, bros.
