AEW mourns the loss of Ted Turner and sends our condolences. A pioneer of TV and founder of TBS & TNT, Turner championed pro wrestling on his networks since the 1970's. AEW proudly continues that tradition, and we dedicate Wednesday Night Dynamite tonight on TBS to his memory.
>>
>>20412267
watch Vince keel over now. the only thing he had left was seeing ted die.
>>
reminder ted turner watching AEW and in 2021 famously said that tony khan/AEW were the spiritual successors to WCW
>>
>>20412302
Tony Khan: “(Ted Turner) didn't know 1% of what I know about professional wrestling or WCW would still be on TNT/TBS.”
>>
ted turner was what you ideally do if you're a billionaire, which is spend your money on baseball and wrestling
>>
>>20412291
I honestly thought this was a parody at first. It’s incredibly poor taste to promote a show by leveraging someone who hasn't even been laid to rest yet. Then again, given Tony’s history of chasing ratings at any cost, maybe I shouldn't be surprised

yep and ted agreed with him when he said that

ESPN's tribute:
Ted Turner, the former owner of the Braves and Hawks who made his mark as a media mogul and a philanthropist, has died at the age of 87.

The Atlanta Braves sadly used AI for their tribute, apparently incapable of creating one themselves:

true, Ted was quite literally busy with at least 20 other things, IMPORTANT things I might add, anons might see this quote as a diss but Ted was really that nigga ACTUALLY doing big boss things
>>
>>20412358
yeah but it shows Tony as a moron who doesn't understand what happened. Turner lost control of WCW in 1996. he was out of power for the last 4-5 years of WCW's existence. WCW dying had nothing to do with Turner and what Turner knew or didn't know of pro wrestling.
>>
>>20412311
The man is barely cold in his grave Tony.

do you know what cnn is?
>>
in fact, and Turner said so himself, if he still owned TNT and TBS in 2001 he never would've taken WCW off the air. which would mean either the sale to Fusient (the Bischoff group) would go through or Turner never would've even sold WCW in the first place. but either way it would still be around or at least would've lasted a much longer time than it did anyway.

he died today, May 6. May 6 was the very same day the WWF (World Wrestling Federation) died in 2002.
Ted Turner outlived the WWF by exactly 24 years to the day.

>>
>>20413597
Apparently Ted viewed Vince as a "disgraceful smalltime huckster slimeball" and wouldn't give him any of the attention he desperately craved during those cringy billionaire ted skits
>>
>>20413609
kek, what a beast
>>
Ted was genuinely the last cool billionaire. He was the last of a breed that was essentially tycoons who just owned a lot of things. Ted reading some environmental pamphlet and making Captain Planet was based. Ted said fuck it and managed the Atlanta Braves for one game. That's like, the dream of any baseball fan. He did so much for Bison conservation it's not even funny. Billionaires now fucking suck because all they want to do is be immortal while stomping on the necks of normal human beings
>>
>>20413638
seemed like a billionaire with passion for things common people care about for sure.
i would have funded a bunch of war films where i can have a cameo as one of the officers too.

Rupert Murdoch called Ted Turner “a great American and friend” after his death on Wednesday, despite a decades-long public feud:

• The enmity presumably began in 1983 after a sailing race where Turner blamed Murdoch for a collision that cost him the victory (he challenged him to a televised fistfight in Las Vegas)

• Things heated up further in 1996, when Murdoch spent over $100M to launch the Fox News Channel as a direct competitor to CNN

• Turner compared Murdoch to Hitler — or “the late Fuhrer,” as he put it — to a group of journalists, saying the two employed similar yellow journalism tactics in smearing the opposition

• Seven years later, in 2003, Turner took aim at Murdoch once more over his support for the war in Iraq, first challenging him to another fistfight and then branding him a “warmonger”

• In a 2019 interview with Variety’s Cynthia Littleton, Turner reiterated that he and Murdoch “have long since made amends”

they never met in person face to face. they may have spoken on the phone. according to vince they did. but if they did it's likely Ted didn't recall it as it was too insignificant. it's also possible vince lied and made the story up and they never spoke at all.
>>
>>20413698
Vince is genuinely the only source for that claim lmao

>>
>>20413733
ok but vince's story only makes vince looks stupid and basically a heel to wrestling fans. always thought it was a stupid story and even worse that vince thought it made him come off well
>>
>>20412298

You aewtists are insufferable. Do you really hate Vince more than you hate Trump? That's what it feels like with all your slander and misinformation.

Do you know how many cable networks met with? At one point or another, every single one of them. And that's not counting all the same social circles they were apart of. Vince met Ted at least once. Logic dictates as much.

The phone call? I'll give you some latitude on. Vince is a worker after all. But Ted does seem like the Good Ol' Boy type that would call Vince directly and give him a heads up.

None of what Vince said was disputed by Ted, Bischoff, etc. anyway. You just have VDS.
>>
>>20413753
Ted didn't dispute Vince because Ted never gave Vince the time of day. Vince was a small-fry shyster in the eyes of real business moguls

Fucking retards at AOL ruined this shit. Ted would've just kept it because at the end of the day he had so much money he didn't care. He just liked putting shit he liked. Truly one of the few billionaires with Soul.
>>
>>20413932
Ted literally saw the pilot for Space Ghost Coast To Coast and gave it the green light, dude was operating on instinct
>>
>>20413753
Lmfaoo Piggy crying.

Wrestling was something he put on TV because he liked watching it as a kid and didn't want to lose that timeslot to some other garbage. Ted was already running GCW and the first itteration of WCW. Did he know of Vince? Maybe. But Vince is the only one that tells that story and Turner had bigger fish to fry.

Turner succeeded where Vince didn't. He started a multi-media conglomerate under his own name through various networks. He has respect and isn't just "that annoying wrestling dude" to other billionaires, which is what bothers Vince more than anything. All he can do is wrestling, but he hates that.

Turner considered CNN and TCM to be his greatest accomplishments.
I wonder where if it all WCW would rank below those two, if it would be 3rd or what.

it's interesting that Eric Bischoff just compared Ted Turner to Elon Musk which is far more offensive and insulting to Ted than anything Tony Khan ever said about Ted. Bischoff, like McMahon, never misses a chance to be hypocritical

>Ted Turner was a wrestling mark who wanted WCW on his network

>Was a pioneer of sports entertainment by having NBA and NFL athletes being regulars in WCW than WWF's programming

>Turner's father loved him than Vince's

>Ted Turner and Vince are marks for wrestling
>Turner never was embarrassed about it
>Vince always hated it and wanted be known for something else than wrasslin
>Turner is known for more than WCW
>Vince forever known for WWE and being a BBC fetishist

>Vince tries to mock and portray Ted as evil billionaire with Billiionaire Ted skits
>Ted allegedly found them funny
>Vince pussies out due to pressure from USA Network
>Ted gives guarenteed money than Vince, making pro-wrestling a better work enviroment

>Vince mocks Turner for known by copying things than create new ideas and poaching WWF's talent: Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage
>Vince poached WCW talent the entire 90's: Lex Luger, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Mick Foley and Steve Austin

>Post WCW fallout Vince brainwashed an entire generation that WCW and Ted Turner were evil and trying to kill his livelihood
>Vince buried the WCW talent and WWE-nWo just to spite Turner instead of becoming a richer

He cared enough since he was actually the main piece that brought Hogan in.

Do not listen to all those idiots that try to take credit. It was legit Turner asking Flair if he can reach Hogan. Not Bischoff, Greg Gagne, Eddie Graham or anyone else who tried to take credit. It was Turner and Flair.
