>HULK HOGAN IS IN THE BUILDING!
>YEAH BUT WHAT IF HE TURNS OUT TO BE THE THIRD MEMBER OF THE OUTSIDERS, SOON TO BE KNOWN AS THE "NEW WORLD ORDER OF WRESTLING", OR THE NWO FOR SHORT, WITH THE NEWLY-CHRISTENED "HOLLYWOOD" HULK HOGAN AS THEIR LEADER?
never understood this call. sometimes the commentary team should just lay out if they have nothing to say
>>
>>20424862
Yeah but who’s side is he on
>>
Ummm actually Bobby Heenan was a heel and had spent fifteen minutes during every Hogan match for the past 15 years postulating that he was about to turn heel and align with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, so it was fine he did it here.
>>
Nobody noticed it, you fuckers are just being in-hindsight contrarians.
>>
>>20424871
Bobby and Andre tried to warn us!

Je-what arrre you talkin' about
>>

Tony knew but Heenan was kept in the dark.
Eric Bischoff's policy was to never tell commentators what was going to happen so that their commentary is more reactive and authentic.
>>
>>20424871
>Mark my words that years from now Hulk Hogan will ally himself with some outsiders and try to ruin wrestling

Weird line from Bobby during the build to Andre/Hogan.

>3 v 3 match
>heels come out with only 2 guys making it a handicap match but say they have a third guy
>hogan comes out
>heenan rightfully wonders if there is a chance he's with the outsiders

Zoomers just don't get this call by heenan because they don't know the context of the match and build at all
>>
I want to present a hypothetical scenario to all the anons here who keep defending Heenan about this with the "b-but le Heenan never like Hogan and he always accused him of actually being le bad person!" excuse
Here is the scenario:
>Hogan walks out
>Schiavone and Dusty lose their shit on commentary hyping up the top face's arrival
>meanwhile Heenan either SHUTS THE FUCK UP FOR JUST 30 GODDAMN SECONDS, or at the very least interjects with one simple and neutral NON-SPOILER line like "Hulk Hogan's in the building!", then he continues to allow Schiavone and Dusty to do their "our hero is here" routine
>Hogan enters the ring, does the legdrop
>Schiavone and Dusty do their shocked "Oh no, Hogan turned bad!" commentary
>Heenan interjects with "What have I been saying all these years?!" and his other I-told-you-so lines
Now I ask you, what the fuck do you have against this hypothetical scenario?
Because in that scenario, Heenan still gets to sell his "I never trusted Hogan" gimmick WITHOUT dropping a blatant, unnecessary-ass spoiler just seconds before the most shocking heel turn in wrestling history
>>
>>20424902
this.
nobody heard it this way at the time.
and the brain was probably told to say it by bischoff.
>>
Why goes through the mind of your average /pw/ jeet when he uses his android to spam the same dimeless thread he posted a few days ago?
>>
>>20425824
>AND EVEN IF HE DID SPOIL IT, HE WAS PROBABLY TOLD TO SAY IT
Nigga don't try that shit
Either he was wrong for saying it or he wasn't, but don't try to blame someone else on top of that with no proof
>>
>>20425950
>Either he was wrong
he wasn't wrong. nobody cared when he said it. it wasn't until botchamania #4 or whatever until this became a controversy.
>Nigga don't try that shit
oh.
i'ma try it
i've been watching rassling for a looong looong time. i remember the spinning bronze statue with the 2001 ric flair musice lil nigga.
>>
>>20424862
they never said this
>>
>>20424862
Some American hero he turned out to be
>>
>>20424871
it was fine you idiot. it is in perfect keeping with heenan's personality to accuse hulk hogan there. for him to want wcw saved and then cheer hogan coming back could have worked, but it would have been odd from him because he never, ever trusted hogan. even when it was ridiculous.

he sounded ridiculous here and the crowd was like "typical bobby!" but then for once he was right.
>>
I agree with the Heenan thesis but I also think it was the wrong line at the time and he could have done it more subtly.
>>
>>20424868
You mean he could be on Nash and Hall's side?!? Wow, that would be SHOCKING if that happened, Bobby!
>>
>>20424868
Ted Turner's in hell now so they're not in the same place
>>
>>20425171
It would have made for a better moment. I doubt anyone would contend otherwise. But who cares? The nwo didn't fail because of that flub. It didn't end prematurely or really change anything at all. It didn't really matter either way.
>>
>>20424862
Tbh I never even heard of anyone whining this line gave away Hogan's heel turn until years after WCW folded and people were putting out WCW books and documentaries about why it happened.
>>
>>20424871
They spent the entire ppv and that whole match asking who the 3rd man was going to be, hinting "it could be anyone".
This was also after the period where they tried putting Hogan as a heel in Sullivan's doomgoon squad, and not far into Hogan's subsequent face turn.
People's memories were better back in the 90s, they didn't just go "oh hey he's here to help" like some naive modern content creator.
Heenan asked what everyone else was thinking.
>>
>>20428194
>Heenan asked what everyone else was thinking.
If "everyone else" at the time already suspected beforehand that Hogan might possibly turn heel and be the 3rd man, then why the fuck do you uncs act like the heel turn itself was such a huge surprise and the most shocking heel turn ever?
Somebody's lying
>>
>He's gonna turn heel, isn't he?...Yes! Yes he turned heel! Just like I predicted!
Little on the nose there, Bobby

Your fanfic is irrelevant. It didn't happen so who gives a fuck.
>>
>>20424871
What about newer fans or WCW fans that didn't know their 15 year history from another company?
>>
This thread is basically smarky faggots trying to poke holes in one of the best angles in wrestling that happened way before they were born. Trust me, kids, nobody gave a fuck about that line at the time and we all lost our shit and marked the fuck out.
>>
>>20424871
>The commentator should try to get himself over when the biggest heel turn in company history is happening

This is why smarks are retarded and Bobby Heenan was an annoying self mark
>>
Sometimes you should get a clue, OP. Bobby's call in retrospect is, what are we calling it now...., "cinema"?
>>
>>20424862
Second worst commentary botch ever
Just behind Matt Striker incorrectly screaming "CENA'S FREE" at the end of Cena's 'Free or Fired' match
>>
>>20428229
This unc's not agemaxxed enough to have seen it live.
The narrative that it was a huge shock comes from the fact that WCW booked it as a huge surprise and wanted it to be a surprise, and the fact that most wrestling pundits/influencers are marks who will happily copypaste the presented narrative without actually looking at fan discourse of the period.
>>
>>20424871
I know you're memeing, but I still can't believe people genuinely use this excuse for this awful call.
>>
He was called the brain because he was smart
