>>20428821I actually did grow up watching it unlike many secondaries. In hindsight I would agree that the over the top hardcore matches probably did more to hurt the business than improve it. Still though my nostalgia for it can never really go away because I watched it in my youth when wrestling had peaked in a way we have not seen since then. You have to understand that Heyman was a genius at shilling the brand. Its just that he couldn't keep it running because he was a greedy fat jew that was bad with money and also because Vince did provide funds to it so it was always going to have a limited shelf life as an independent brand. To me the ECW characters are mostly better and far more memorable than most of the characters from the other two big brands at the time. It also had a cooler presentation despite the shoestring budget and the use of real music helped a lot. But again it was never going to last forever in this state. It would have ended eventually sooner rather than later if Vince didn't purchase it.

Imagine you see Hulk Hogan wrestling all your life where people are going down to legdrops and weapons are never used. Then imagine you see Sabu jump through tables and go through barbed wire. And everyone's swearing, bleeding, drinking beer and just generally being a lot more aggressive and violent.Seeing ECW for the first time absolutely blew my mind. It was like the next level of wrestling.The hardcore stuff doesn't age as well, but the promos and characters absolutely do and ECW had a lot of them.
