why did its spiritual sequel flop so hard?
>>
CM Punk wasn't on the cover
>>
I find it odd how people don't bring up that it's only 4 wrestlers like that isn't a bad thing

No Mercy didn't have more than 4 wrestlers because it fucking chugged dick with that many in the ring

It also doesn't have basic features like tornado fucking tags

Kenny Omega thought he could be a game developer but he had go away heat with the team. Dude can’t even cut a promo but he thinks because he plays street fighter he can make a game kek
>>
>>20429462
Kenny Faggot either wanted to replicate that shit only because NM had it which was so retarded, or the Switch 1 was such a piece of shit they had no choice. After all, the game runs at 30 fps with input lag on that toy. Not that it matters much since the AI is utterly retarded and you will win 99% of matches but it is still an unpleasant experience.
>>
>>20429469
Kenny couldn't even make top half at any fighting game tournament he went to and that's a shoot brother. Faggot is a poser in all walks of life

How many live performances did Hulk Hogan do with Metallica?
>>
>>20429584
Metallica died in 1996
>>
>>20429469
Shit maybe the devs should have listened to Kenny because what they put out was hot garbage
>>
I feel like if they put all their effort into the BR mode and made it free to play it would probably be the biggest wrestling game of all time but Kenny is a boomer and would never allow it
>>
>>20429640
I don't know why people are trying to blame Omega when the devs specifically said they ignored him
>>
>>20429640
It could've actually done numbers

>Paying for wrestlers
>Paying for wrestler costumes
etc

That is if AEW was actually popular
>>
>>20429651
It would have made AEW popular. A wrestling BR game could have been dimes but they half assed it.
>>
>>20429656
Yeah it was a huge missed opportunity in retrospect. It was like a nice bonus but it was tied to a game with middling reviews people were wary about spending money on.

This is probably where the money and manpower comes in, because a F2P BR game would need things like crossplay, constant support for bugs, teams creating and adding content, etc
>>
>>20429456
Because getting aged old people who once made good games, which doesn't even tell the whole story, doesn't equal them being able to make good games in the present. It wasn't their engine, they were effective at reusing assets to their benefits which they couldn't here, they had years upon years to build off content, what was impressive back then isn't so now, the brand AKI games doesn't mean much when they don't even half 75% of the original workers who made those games working there anymore etc.
>>
>>20429602
>filtered by Lulu
>>
>>20429663
They could have done it BUT they would have had to focus just on it and not the actual main game and they decided to make 2 mediocre products instead of one they put all their effort into

Yukes made FF, not AKI, and Yukes always sucked

Back in 2023 the Battle Royale craze was already over. Only the 2 or 3 big BR games were popular and nobody else was chasing that trend anymore except of course that faggot Omega and Pukes. Too late and too half assed. It would have died in less than 6 months anyway even if the mode was actually good, and not reusing the stadium as backstage arenas for the main game was beyond retarded but what can you expect from those hacks.
>>
>>20429456
They tried to make a nostalgic little game where you get your buddies huddled around the TV to play when that model has been dead for a decade.
>>
friendly reminder Mat McMusckes and Angry Joe shilled for this piece of shit and got away with it
>>
A lot of the moves had bad animation.
If someone had a running finisher you have press 4 different buttons in a really awkward way.
Seperate kick and punch buttons which also applies to grapples. So as a promotion that sells themselves almost entirely on cool movez, 2/3rds of everyone’s graps are the same elbows and kicks.
Lack of gimmicks matches
Career mode had a lot of content it’s just boring and not obvious about what decisions matter. Buts is also very boring to read bad dialogue and decide what meaningless decisions you make between matches.
Career mode is also completely different if you pick a caw or an in game character. Your caws earn skill points based off of what you do in career mode, and in game characters are static, so if you play as your favorite aew superstar all the decisions that give you skill points are useless. You can also get injured from working out, but you can’t get injured in matches, and they both give you skill points, so you might as well just so matches. And you also might as well just do matches cause that’s playing game.
DLC too expensive and vast.
And the mini games suck and no one asked for them.
DLC came with more mini games instead of gimmick matches like people were asking.
CAW mode lacked options.
Maybe it could have had a little juice if it launched with stadium stampede, but the user base was eventually going to die out.

>why did its spiritual sequel
This wasn't the spiritual sequel though. Do you know how many shitty wrestling games have come and gone between No Mercy and Fight Forever that tried to claim they were that exact thing? Fight Forever was no different. They tried to cash in on the No Mercy name to appeal to their target audience only to pump out a dogshit game no one would be playing 6 months later

>Do you know how many shitty wrestling games have come and gone between No Mercy and Fight Forever that tried to claim they were that exact thing?
you tell me
>>
First, No Mercy's successor was Def Jam Vendetta.
Second, AEW has a hardcore audience of about 50,000 people willing to shell out for something like a videogame (anything more expensive than a ticket or PPV buy). 25+ years ago, WWF easily had five milion in the US alone. This had very little chance of being finanically successful.
Third, many successive games which turned a profit were how we ended up with VPW2 and No Mercy. You can't develop a game like that from scratch no matter what you do.
Fourth, Kenny Groomega is so up his own ass with Vince Derangement Syndrome that he couldn't pitch this without inventing a fictional past where his parents bought him a Japanese N64 so he can claim to have played VPW2 as a teenager and never gross, icky WM2K or No Mercy. Because even Attitude era WWF was icky! His ideas for marketing the game involved a fake press conference where he bizarrely dressed as Steve Jobs, with a budget of $5000 of Tony's money (a glorified BTE skit that could've been filmed for $50). I could go on, but nobody involved in the making of this game respected him except for clowns like Ref Aubrey who got an extra check for moderating the Steam forum and pretending to be a lawyer who'd send fake legal notices to Youtube critics.

What should've been done was, after "buying rights" to AKI source code that no longer exists, every prolific No Mercy modder could've been contracted to help build a really fun AEW themed total conversion for VPW2 (not No Mercy because because icky fed makes Kenny mad) which would allow for quiet appropriation of assets from No Mercy.
In the end, that would've resulted in an adequate "Fight Forever" that might've lost Tony Khan two or three million dollars instead of a hundred million. If the conversion didn't turn out overly buggy, people would still be playing it today.

>a hundred million
it wasn't that expensive, 20 milly tops, maybe less
