Wrestling from the olden age (lets say pre-1997)>Thread question: Could Magnum have carried WCW until Hogan and the nWo arrived?
He was super over, but I don't see what's special about him. He seems like an OK midcarder like Luger.
>>20430113no... nobody could. hulkamania was over by 1990 no way magnum was going to last until the mid90s. especially when we see what happened to wcw. all the stars left shortly after magnum was injured. even if he was champ he wouldnt have had many worthy opponents and no doubt would have gone to the wwf at some pointalso like with terry gordy being born in 1961 magnum was born in 1959 making him only 26 when his career ended. magnum seemed mid30s to me as a kid
>>20430113Is that Adam "Hangma'am" Page, a.k.a. the Queer Cowboy?
>>20431237They wish
sell me on Magnum TA.What's his greatest promo and match.
>>20431257don't know about promo but his i quit cage match vs tully blanchard is one of the greatest matches of all time
>>20431283that was pure kino. the finish with tully screaming as magnum stabs with the chair leg. it's how a blood feud match should, no cutesy spots that take a minute to set-up like you often see these days, just a good ol' fashioned fight.
>>20430113No. not that long, that would be a whole decade, but he would've carried them though the rest of the 80s for sure. and into the 90s. WCW would've been in a stronger position at that point to pass the torch to the next guys. Magnum could've passed the torch to Lex Luger. Luger should've been the star of that early 90s era. But Flair wouldn't put him over, he only wanted to put over Sting. and there were no other top guys on that level to put over Luger.
>>20431283>>20431323I don't know shit about wrestling before 2000 and even i've seen this and it's fucking based
Magnum was a like 2 years into the business and trusted enough to wrestler gimmick shitters like Kamala on big cards. The ladies loved him, the guys thought he was cool.I don't know how well if would have had adapted into the 90s, but I have no question he would have had sting's spot if it wasn't for his injury.
>>20430113he was so young when the accident happened. he would've wrestled throughout the 90s and probably into the early 2000s. probably would've had a heel run in the 90s, maybe with the NWO. possibly could've had a WWF run at some point in the 90s or he'd be one of those guys that stayed with WCW all the way to the end. I could see him ending up in TNA after in a non-wrestling role, either announcing or authority figure. probably Commissioner. then again, Nikita Koloff is the same age as Magnum and he retired early too in 1992 after herniating a neck disc. so who knows, it's hard to predict the length and future of any wrestling career.
Why didn't "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Bret "The Hitman" Hart, "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels or "The Gay" Triple H come out?
>>20431535oh and no Jim Londos, El Santo, Gorgeous George, Rikidozan, Lou Thesz, Frank Gotch or Ed "Strangler" Lewis either! so much for them!
>>20431535Was this "random" sample at a mall or something? There's 78 million Americans over age 60 and Bruno would at least chart highly among those in the northeast.
>>20431535>503
>>20431257>sell me on Magnum TA.Remember when Sting injured his knee in 90 and then came back to win the title and have a long storied career? Now imagine it ended his career. That's Magnum TA. Promo wise I think is the GAB 86 promo after he was stripped of the title for punching the president of the NWA (because he broke up a brawl between Magnum and Ivan Koloff after Ivan had insulted Magnum's mother during a contract signing) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1f7gsIHBf0Match is probably the I Quit Cage match with Tully Blanchard. Might be the only time when combining two gimmick matches worked. And it produced one of the coolest images in wrestling history. It isn't gory with blood, but idk, when I think of a picture to represent 80s wrestling, this always pop into my mind
>>20431934Reprimand this! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWe9LNKOTKA
>>20431324>WCW would've been in a stronger position at that point to pass the torch to the next guys. Magnum could've passed the torch to Lex Luger.jim crockett bought the uwf and absorbed too much debt in 86/87. thats why crockett sold the company to ted turner. thats when non-wrestling people were brought in and thats why the product took such a downward turn. thats also when all the big nwa names all started leaving... dusty was fired, flair, the road warriors. even lex left so it didnt matter if magnum passed the torch or not the nwa was doomed once it was sold
>>20431390I would guess he flames out by the early '90s because his gimmick wouldn't have worked anymore and then he'd have either shit WCW booking or he would have gone to WWE to do a year or two of nothing or wrestle some shit midcard gimmick like when they made Barry Windham into The Stalker.
