Danhausen was getting over without being the accepted type of wrestler that Tony and his friends think deserve all the attention: a flippy shitter who does those retarded Japanese chopping contests in every single match.
He was coming up with his own merch ideas, which Tony refused to make any of, so he started selling them on a third-party site which really made Tony look stupid and resulted in him being punished until WWE signed him.

It's actually nice to see how Danhausen went from being legitimately depressed that everyone he called a friend wanted to pretend he didn't exist into being warmly welcomed into WWE in exactly the spot he was trying to be in at AEW.
