here is an ad from a 1981 rasslin mag where HBK likely ordered the tank that DX would use in the 90s
if you go to Archive.org there are hundreds (thousands?) of scans of wrestling magazines from the 1950s-2000s

I remember watching a movie called peanut butter falcon. It’s about an adult with Down’s syndrome escaping from his group home so he can train to be a wrestler with his hero, the salt water redneck. It’s revealed Rednecks famous hold is fake and it can’t actually be done. A military press over the top rope. After a day of training the peanut butter falcon makes his debut at some backyard show out in the middle of nowhere. He wrestles Jake the snake who starts shooting on him and then falcon does the previously thought to be impossible hold. I’m sure it’s very inspiration, and I bet a lot of the wwe fans can see themselves in the main character. But to me I was like “I’ve seen this move like a million times “

this is the only color pic i've ever seen of this match. it looks great and real. if its colorized, which i doubt, they did a great job

The battle Royals and the Royal Rumble from back then were so much better
now if its a BR everyone clears out of the ring but a few people and its fuckin gay
or in the RR as soon as the ring gets full everyone takes a nap or hides outside the ring.
these fuckin dipshits don't know how to work outside of needing the whole ring to do al their fuckin flippy shit.
>>
>>20442144
He's talking about Hulk and WWE still to this day claiming Wrestlemania is the only time anyone everyone slammed Andre, which fun fact Hogan had slammed Andre at least 3 times before that.
>>
>>20442302
That's not Hogan though, Hogan saying that is just doing his job. That's a WWE issue
>>
>>20439903
yeah i read the classic mags on archive all the time
something cool i noticed today is
https://archive.org/details/sportstelevision
the archive sports tv collection sorted by views all the top viewed vids are of wrestling
right now isn't the best time to watch stuff on there tho some of the videos aren't playing i think their server is slow or having issues.
>>
This is still my favorite finisher of all time and I wish someone would bring it back

>>
>>20442347

>>
wrestling and boxing in black and white go so fucking hard

I would love a movie about Lou Thesz in the style of Raging Bull (closest we got to that was the opening of Iron Claw which was pretty kino https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zngo56FiRHY)

I still don't get his appeal
>>
>>20443933
what do you mean appeal? he was a good wrestler, he won matches. you're not supposed to want to fuck him.
>>
>>20443933
He had charisma, he could talk, he was the common man so he was relatable
he was a fat smelly piece of shit just like you
not sure why you can't relate.
>>
>>20442706
DIMES, MOTHER FUCKER! DIMES!
>>
>>20439903
but that's a shoot tank not a jeep with a pipe taped to it
>>
>>20443933
it was real / people believed it was real back then.
looking strong and dominant, winning titles and beating opponents meant you got over. regardless of appearance and gay bullshit like that that people like to factor in now.
nobody believes its real anymore so all anyone cares about is "cool moves" and what they look like so of course someone like you is gonna wonder what dusty rhodes's "appeal" is.
>>
>>20444053
>it was real / people believed it was real back then
bull fucking shit
we got an unironic mark here boys
>>
>>20444062
enough people were willing to buy into pro wrestling in the 70s and 80s, yes. are you disputing this?
>>
>>20444067
Absolutely. They're not all total fucking morons or literal children in the crowd. They knew what was up.
>>
>>20444062
>>20444070
do you even watch older wrestling? compare the fan reactions. not to the entrances, promos etc. to the actual matches. the fans used to believe or went along with it during the event. the reactions were comparable to genuine sports events.
now the fans react like they would to watching actors play a performance, it's a different reaction entirely
>>
>>20444074
Whatever retard, there's expose news segments and articles about wrestling going back to the 50s.
>>
>>20444081
which did nothing to stop the crowds from getting into the matches like as if they were real compared to todays crowds looking down at their phones and not giving a shit and only reacting to spots they think they're expected to react to.
>>
>>20444074
You're saying they went alomg with it like theater, which is ironic because the artsy hollywood types are in charge of wwe now shitting up the place
>>
>>20444111
from what i see, the crowds today politely applaud the effort and basically only pop for catchphrases, finishers and surprises.
watch any match from the 50s to the 90s and the crowd is seriously following the action and getting into it like a legitimate sporting match. they're not sitting there on their hands waiting for something to happen, they're reacting to nearfalls, they're booing heels and cheering faces.
>>
that's the other thing, if you were a good guy, like Dusty Rhodes, fans LOVED you. you were their hero.
if you were a bad guy, fans HATED you and wanted to kill you. and you didn't want your shoot name and address in the phone book. it was that serious.
>>
>>20444142
Nobody famous ever wanted their shoot names and adresses anywhere in public lmao
Also that romanticized view is romanticized, most wrestling fans knew it was a work but played along
knife attacks etc. were almost always linked to heavy intoxication from the perpetrator
>>
Currently on an 80s NWA stint and my god. Looks like a star, talks good, can wrestle

We don't share links to footage we like online. That's how normies and the companies get to it and remove it.
>>
>>20444053
I think it had alot more to do with better stories and better character work. People can get very invested in fiction when it is good.

Dusty was a mega draw in the late 70's into the 80's. He had Charisma like no one else and could whip a crowd into a frenzy. Watching old clips of Dusty makes me realize just how big of shitters his sons turned out to be. They are nothing like his Daddeh

my favorite match is Brick vs Angle at the Wrestlemania
>>
>>20446374
acting gay and talking jive was all you needed for charisma back then? yikes
>>
>>20444053
Dusty was one of if not the fakest wrestler of that era and his schtick exposed the business, only low IQ hicks could think wrestling was real after one of his matches
