they STOPPED THE COUNT too early on the Reiwa Musketeers thing, it's clearly Uemura, Oiwa and Ice.
I haven't watched a second of the G1.
Great crowd last night. Wish move native audiences were as vocal.
OLD Skull Sanada and Rampage Unc Shingo are inadvertently having kings road style matches because they're so old that even their second super finishers are cheapened by kickouts. All their wins now are just avalanches of super moves, it's pretty based.

>>20855010That's what made Okada's main events so good imo, the rainmaker wasn't an insta win move, and the story of a lot of his matches would be him fighting his opponent to exhaustion and trusting his superhuman durability to win out. You need to be already ded before the rainmaker can beat you if you're a strong opponent.I do prefer cumulative punishment wins over video gamey "wait for the super bar to fill then win" type, so I too enjoy watching Shingo throw everything but the kitchen sink at his opponents to beat them.

I remember Kojima cucked Kwab Anderson out of the block win in 2015 as well.

>>20865601Their size thing is largely a work for gaijins desu, for japs yes it holds but if you're a foreigner it's just a question of starpower. It's really just about where they can get you featured. Like Kenny looked ridiculous doing power moves against a bunch of skinny flippers, but you need to belt him up and there's a bigger gaijin star with the heavyweight belt, so he has to go down... and he becomes a heavyweight literally overnight when AJ leaves despite being the same size as his last Jr match. and Shingo was hilariously oversized too, but they just put him there as a showcase so they could fast track him to stardom for the audience. They kept Ospreay down farming Jr belts because they were focusing on Jay as well.Knight was pretty big, but either he spends a few years winning belts in as a Jr to get himself over enough to warrant a heavyweight run, or he debuts as a heavyweight and never gets any airtime to get himself over. Drilla wouldn't be as over as he is now if he didn't spend 2 years as a Jr. I doubt Knight regrets his decision to leave, but if he wanted to be in the G1 he probably just had to wait another few months lol
>>20868089>Drilla wouldn't be as over as he is now if he didn't spend 2 years as a Jr.I disagree and I don't think a Jr run has ever done anything for a guy t hat couldn't have been done better in the heavyweight divisionYou have the NEVER and the Global and the tags and a bunch of secondary belts to get over lower tier heavyweights, you do not need forced enrollment as a junior when you're twice the size of everyone. It's just as dumb as making a tiny guy a heavyweight
I say this as a fan of Dragongate - no one cares about the Jr division. This goes back to comparing the the BOSJ and World Tag League attendances at the same arenas, with WTL outdrawing constantly. The next Liger isn’t walking through the door, and at this point neither is the next Hiromu. Murashima should just return as a heavyweight and be the next Ishii.
>>20868140disagree, one of the top 3 talents of the reiwa generation is a turbomanlet that couldn't be convincingly booked to beat even Chase Owens. if the jr division solely exists so that Fujita can get singles matches on big cards, then it deserves to exist. the division was practically the Despe Invitational for years and that justified keeping it. and a junior tour is good for roster rest time and scouting foreign talent besides

>>20868321>>20868341Don't you remember how strongly Takagi was booked when he was a junior heavyweight? He went undefeated for several months. I think they used his time in the division as an avenue to push him. The match where RPG3K defended the junior heavyweight tag titles against Takagi/BUSHI was the former team's best ever match.
>>20860330All those bottom guys you criticized were also really good in NJPW at the time (except for maybe Cody Hall, but he was just a young lion). Was Elgin one of anyone else's favorite wrestlers during his tenure with NJPW? I remember hating him as ROH World Champ, but he was like the second coming of Steve Williams in Japan. His February 2017 match against Naito remains as one of my favorites. I remember thinking it was better than the legendary Okada vs Omega match from the month prior.

It lets guys build on top of a very solid base with their own talent. Now a lot of them fail to do that but it's still better for them to have good fundamentals because they'd probably fail just the same if they were trained in other ways.
>>20874362god I FUCKING HATE takeshita. i always did. ill be fine with anybody winning as long as its not him.
I pretend I'm not watching NJPW and post daily in this thread and here's my opinion of the G1: GRIM!
I'm actually not watching NJPW but I think things are looking up so I post on occasion to make sure the thread is bumped.
nice to see that kojima is still very healthy

Tokyo popping for the tombstone on Wolf was great. Then Wolf got choked out and they went silent. It’s like they are okay with him losing until he actually loses.

Its a real tell-tale sign about where both the G1 AND Gabe are that he did that fallout to Shibata after Ota and nobody cared.

Drilla Moloney is good actually
drilled bologna is going to the toybox next year
Watching Dribbla Baloney and Takeshita stink up the G1 last year is what finally killed New Japan for me.
My cope is that the remaining gaijin are such shitters that the talent raids must be ending in the next 3 years
Yuto Ice is obese, constantly reddit middle fingers like that fake tough guy Jon Moxley, thigh slapping 20 times per game, ugly, I think he is a good fit for AEW, if it's a place where a fat ugly fake shooter like Eddie Kingston can be a superstar, then a more talented fat ugly fake shooter like Yuto can be the company's ace.Maybe in return they can send over Jay for a tour or two a year. He's an ikemen who can draw the housewife yen.

day 8 thread >>20898858
>>20897926it's very grim to see the only way they can sell out a venue is with old broken down niggas retiringa 5 minutes time limit match with 2 old dads draws more than anything Yota Pooji, Shitter Poomino, Yuya Gooeymura, Callme Woman, Konosugay Takeashit or Gaped Klitt did.GRIM !!
>2,025人Although it is much better than their previous show in this venue, it is, I'm afraid, still half-empty and a very weak number for a G1 show in the second biggest market of the country, where they could at least do 5 thousy a few years ago. Therefore, I officially confirm that this show validates its grim status. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
>>20899362Arbitrary ass rules lol that ain't a grim, nigga
God forbid ya try something new.
>>20899427I can't say I wasn't captivated but I'm not even sure if I liked it or not. If Yuto was actually fighting back while getting chopped it would've been a different story.
>>20899411It's less grim than last year's show but just because they're up from last year doesn't mean it's not grim, especially considering last year's G1 was one of the grimest of all time. New Japan has been digging a hole of grimness for years, you can't get out of it easily. 2000 people in Osaka is not great at all if you know anything about the promotion's history. A few years ago during the G1 they could run 2 Edion Arena shows and do a double 5 thousy (sold out). If current New Japan could do that it would be considered the biggest achievement of the year, which is saying a lot.
How are things so grim? People were swearing that the Wrestle Kingdom ticket sales meant New Japan was freakin' back!
>>20899484The remaining nujapoos never learn. Old broken down shitters are bigger draws. Tenzan's retirement will outdraw the G1 final and they still won't realize that people can actually buy tickets if they really want to, it's not because "le hecking economy", people don't want to pay for 2026 NJPW with its grim ass penetrated roster.
What happened to EDION Osaka anyhow? Didn't they just do renovations?
*headlocks you*
>>20899554Thanks daddy
>>20899554If every move can end a match every move matters moreThough I did look away during the ending headlock and missed SANADA tapping
>>20899524NTA but of course Tenzan would outsol the younger generation. I think he was known even by normies in the same way that Tanahashi was known, he drew more people, both current fans an old ones (that might not follow njpw like they use to) for a good reason
>>20899536More renovations, both EDION 1 and 2 are closed till January. No Power Struggle again.
>O-Khan should join HOT.>Putting aside whether he's entertaining or not, O'Khan does his job as a heel, so I appreciate that.>Goto is amazing. I wonder if the current generation will be able to move like that when they reach Goto's age?>Well, maybe they were a little too keen on trying something different. But it would probably be exciting to watch it live at the venue. On the other hand, watching it on a screen makes it seem like a match that was planned too much. It's difficult, isn't it?>It's funny how Twitter is raving about it, but 5ch is giving it the cold shoulder.>There's long been a lot of sentiment on 5ch saying that Yuto couldn't handle wrestling, and since this result basically confirms that, that's probably why things turned out this way. I imagine quite a few people feel he got carried solely by his popularity and emotional expressiveness. Personally, I would've liked to see a slightly more concise performance, though.>As someone who saw Kensuke Kobashi's match live at the Dome...>There are quite a few English speakers saying that it was good, like an Ibushi-Taichi match.>Even the way Ice loses is taken into consideration, isn't that a bit overprotective?>I had high hopes for Yuto-Ice. I figured that once he went single, he'd unlock pro wrestling moves other than just strikes. But he didn't. Well, "he couldn't" is probably more accurate. His shoulder must be in really bad shape.>I remember Tsuji's performance against Oiwa in last year's G1 race was pretty interesting, but I wonder how it will be this year.>I think it will probably be a high-quality match. This G1 tournament has made me realize once again that Tsuji is a wrestler with consistently high average scores. However , as a champion, that's not enough for Tsuji. Especially since Oiwa has already created a masterpiece with Uemura, Tsuji needs to have a match against Oiwa that is on the same level.
