We are among strange people in a strange land.

We encountered these strange people for the first time on an island they named ‘’Pinewood Island’’. A entire small island given over the ‘’Boy Scouts’’, an order dedicated to training young men into rangers of some sort.

Americans are universally human. A industrialist people of craftsmen, warriors, and sailors who are from a realm inhabited by solely humans. They seem to have some sort of hierarchy when it comes to the variants, or as they would say, ‘’races’’ of humans, as of writing this is only known from testimony of one of them. In short, pale skin humans seem to be regarded as higher than other variants while also being the majority, tho a notion not uniformly shared among their people. Their language is known as English, their flag is a 13 red and white striped flag with a blue box in the top-left corner with 48 white stars. Their culture seem to hold great importance to weapons, namely a common, but yet to be demonstrated weapon known as a ‘gun’.

Tho I have so far only encountered one faith of these people, Christians, who believe in a god I been calling Father of Jesus, a title I have adopted for the god due to he’s only apathet being God, Father, and Jesus being referred to as he’s only son. They also believe only their own god is real. They have made mentions of ‘freedom of religion’, this imply that their society must contain those who believe in someone other than Father of Jesus. Their symbology is that of a crucifix, sometimes bare- other times with this beloved ‘Jesus’ on it mid execution.

Their realm is known as ‘Earth’, the English word for dirt. Lincoln Island was simply a small segment of a much larger empire known as the United States of America. A empire led by an elected leader and who have elected leaders pass laws, on paper any adult can vote but there been mentioned of unofficial limits and laws on voting based on the hierarchy.

They have no, factual, knowledge of magic. They have it as a concept but one rooted in their mythology and fiction, with possible negative or mixture of negative and positive connotations. Tho they only knew other humans and have a hierarchy- they, at minimum the Boy Scouts, also seem quick to accept the appearance of nonhuman beings, even those who look familiar to the monsters of their own tales. Tho it is advisable to minimize such non-human features when possible at least until more information is known. Especially Teiflings, as they appear the same as the imagery of the Americans’ evil god, ‘Satin’, and he’s minions. Tho Dragon Borns might be at an advantage as they seem to resemble a monster known as a ‘’T-Rex’’ that are popular among their children.

So far despite the warnings given by ScoutMaster David, they seem to be a fairly friendly people. Tho they may flash from one end to another more strongly they seem no more or less good or evil than any given city of people.

Currently we are dropping off the Boy Scouts at one of their cities, Abraham, before we head to this ‘’Redwood naval fort’’.

[hastily written]
Now- one of their own accidentally preformed a translation spell of some kind, I’ll be with hem to educate hem on what I know about magic and how to safely use it. Surely I’ll gain more insight about these peoples.

>>Redwood Naval and Air Base

Dhav look back at the 4 American leaders. Several questions go through her head but she settle on two that seem of import while the morning flower Captain slips out of the building.

‘’When we came in we saw evidence of riot damage in Abraham. What caused such a riot?’’ The Wizard asks the assembled men with aid of her cloke. ‘’I’m worried that such a thing might flare up again’’

‘’Simply put-‘’ the General begins ‘’The flash caused a mass panic, for us in Abraham the light was right up against us. In one moment we were able to see the shoreline of our mainland, the next- open seas with our bridge cut in half. Confusion turned into fear, fear into panic, and panic into a riot’’

‘’Honestly’’ the Admiral added ‘’I still don’t think the situation sinked in yet. We never had something like this happen to us before’’ he added ‘’even we were not immune. And truthfully having soldiers respond to the rioting in full ABC didn’t help’’

‘’in full… ABC?’’ Dhav asks, unsure if the term. ‘’Is that a kind of armor?’’

The men look at each-other for a moment and huddle together. with hush tones they ask each-other questions- ‘’should we tell her’’ can be heard before they turn back to her.
>>

‘’It’s an acronym we use for a series of… armors… that specifically defend form some classifications of our and our opponents weapons.’’ The Admiral answer ‘’it stands for Atomic, Biological, and Chemical. I won’t go into detail but all three kinds of weapons are able to poison an area in some manner and can cause a painful prolonged death to a large population of people with a single use. With the Atomic types typically deployed with an accompanying flash of light. A lot of people mistaken The Flash as an Atomic attack and we put on such protection because we still didn’t know what the event was.’ ‘

‘’To have soldiers spill out in such armor would inadvertently tell people that such weapons may have been used’’ Dhav observed. ‘’And if your humans are anything like our’s- once panic start, It spreads. Tho that dose bring up another question.’’ She asks with.. some trepidation. ‘’Do you have enough supplies for the city?’’

‘’That’s… a difficult question’’ the Senator states. ‘’we are still getting some final counts, but the city, docked ships, and Immediate surroundings have about three months worth of food without rationing and without fishing or harvesting. The city accounts for half of Lincoln’s sixty thousand people- the other half of the population mostly live in rural and farming communities that should be self sufficient so long as the fuel holds, with the remainder split between the mining, logging, and Reservation communities.’’ Senitor says. ‘’With farming and fishing- we don’t know yet, we might have just enough to only go a little hungry before the first harvest- or we only have enough to make it to our’s new years without people starving.’’

‘’Fuel?’’ Dhav asks ‘’like your Alchemicals for your devices. Tho, I don’t think I know what your Radios run off of… it has to be something….’’

‘’That’ll be electricity’’ the Coast Gard Captain explain ‘’but similar idea. We use all sorts of fuels for various devices… oil for our carts, coal for our electricity production, natural gas for heating. We have about two weeks of the oils stuff with regular use and that is including what is in the ships right now, we might be able to stretch it to one to two months by minimizing use but with no means to resupply currently. Coal- we got some mines that just got started at Pompeii, but they were only just now digging up the stuff when the flash happened and no one been able to contact New Sparta sense the Flash. If that dose not change within two weeks the lights in the city will go out and any food we are preserving in freezers will spoil’’

‘’also Without oil’’ the General says with no short amount of grimace ‘’we will not be able to plant, harvest, process, or store as much food as we normally be able to, let alone move as much stuff around for everything else we need to do for the long haul’’
>>
>>6266553
4/4
‘’And the Natural Gas?’’ Dhav asks

‘’still getting the numbers but that is so low on the priorities that it is not even funny’’ the Admiral says with a shake of he’s head ‘’Besides, it’s main use is heating and We think we are in early summer or late spring here.’’

Before further questions can be answered or asked, a soldier rushed into the building with a folder right up to the General

‘’Thank you Private- your dismissed’’ he say turning away the young man as he open the folder, several small white squares of some kind of glossy card material is taken out ‘’Dhav, if you don’t mind, could you identify some of these please?’’

He hand the wizard the cards, on the front is an image of… something in black, white, and all shades of gray in between. When she noticed the city walls and half sunken ship in the port she realize that she is seeing a city form above ‘’Incredible’’ she says ‘’why were they painted gray?’’

‘’They are photographs’’ the General explains ‘’we have devices that can instantly make a detail picture of what it is pointed at, they are gray because our ability to make color pictures in such a manner is limited even before the Flash. we was hoping you or your compatriots would recognize the cities and other noteworthy captures. Maybe tell us what the city typically trade for so that we can get some things we are lacking’’

Dhav look over the few dozen pictures. Some seem to be of various cities, while others seem to be of creatures or ships, the back of some have some context fir the picture and some series of numbers and letters that dose not translate. While she look at the pictures- she can hear the people of the Morning Flower start to enter the building. She thinks over the request. It would be simple enough tho her companions might know bits and pieces she dose not, or even object to the idea…

It's reasonable enough, but is there anything we don't want to tell them? Given these, they may already know more about physical aspects of these places than we do.
I'm inclined to cooperate given the circumstances but will want to be paid eventually if this is going to be an ongoing thing or for any potential fighting asked of us.

Dhav look at the pictures then back at the men.

‘’one moment, I need to talk to my fellow adventurers.’’ The half orc say to the Americans.

‘’Of course’’ the Senitor says.

The adventurers take seats on some of the cots while the refugees enter the large building. Idaily Dhav noticed that some are not making much effort to hide their appearance- causing them to get strange looks from the American leaders and their armed guards.

‘’+So- they want us to identify some things for them+’’ the wizard says after explaining everything she learned so far.

Red look at one of the pictures and visibly droop ‘’+well- my hometown is gone+’’ she says handing it back to Dhav ‘’+It was full of stuck up silver forks, but I knew some good people there…+’’

The picture is a burnt out city with an identifiable bronze statue of the mad king. The fortress of the mint looks intact. The city is half running along a coastline and half built on a series of tiny islands connected by bridges. The back noted that there is a significant amount of movement among the ruins of some kind of animal.

‘’So much for goodport’’ the Wizard says ‘’We were heading there next, I thought they gotten a hold of the monster situation?’’

‘’+The mint look intact+’’ Olitic says looking at two other pictures of the ruined city. ‘’+And of course the statue of the mad elf hemself… I wonder if anyone is alive in that fortress+’’

‘’+honestly i am wondering if we should even do this+’’ Dhav admits ‘’+I mean- these Americans seem friendly if a little scared-+’’

On cue they hear one of the American soldiers give a startled gasp- Dhav look and see the blue teifling that taken off he’s hood. She can barely hear one of the American leaders saying something about ‘’the radio was accurate’’ while one of the guards fumbled the slack weapon they have seeing the blue skin and haired, goat leged humanoid. Ultimately the young man keep the weapon down.

‘’+yea- real friendly.+’’ Red deadpans before looking back at everyone ‘’+I think it depends on how much they pay us. I don’t want these people to think that they have gotten us to work for free.+’’

‘’+Do they even use gold?+’’ Olitic asks. ‘’+ I highly doubt they have a one to one for the Pieces+’’

Dhav simply turn to an American soldier nearby. who was giving a… odd look to one of the food families that formed on the vessel. Dhav wonder for a moment if it’s because the two men are a orc and a human. ‘’Scuse me sir.’’ Getting the man’s attention ‘’What do you use for money?’’ She asks in English. ‘’We use what we call the Pieces. A standard measure of copper, silver, gold and platinum coinage across various nations. Do you have anything like that?’’

‘’Oh- um. We use dollars’’ the man answers while he takes out a strange leather object. ‘’paper bills and metal coins backed by gold’’ taking out a green sheet of paper and holding up some copper and nickel coins. ‘’I think it started as a way for people to keep gold in banks yet still able to use them’’

‘’And how do you turn this dollar in for gold?’’

‘’Right now?’’ The young man answers ‘’no clue. It’s backed by the federal government and there’s not really a federal, or even state, government. People are using it, trusting that reform Goverment would back them but- well… it’s worth is now depended on what value it is to the person. Plenty of places are already accepting bartering.’’

‘’+they have a bank note system with no backers+’’ Dhav relay to her friends.

‘’+I worked with worse+’’ Dula says with a shrug ‘’+we could ask for other than money. Things, skills, experiences.+’’

Red smiles ‘’+well- I want to fly+’’

‘’+I can make you fly+’’ the barbarian says with a smile causing the rouge to wave her off

‘’+no no. I want to fly in one of their things.+’’ She clarifies ‘’+Preferably the planes- not the hovering thing, that is just to freaky for me+’’

‘’+How about rides for all of us+’’ Dhav added. ‘’+tho they do have limited fuels+’’

Red shrugs ‘’+as long as we get a backed note saying that we can eventually I would be ok with it.+’’

Dhav takes out a sheet of paper and some charcoal. ‘’+Ok- plane ride.+’’

‘’+gun+’’ Dula added ‘’+we should have one if we do work for Americans. With…. Arrows?’+’ She say- unsure of the term for the ammo.

‘’Bullets’’ Dhav corrected as she write it down ‘’+I don’t know how many of these I would be able to push for+’’ Only for the barbarian to give back a shrug.

‘’+Maybe more of their luxuries?+’’ Elidi ‘’+I am not trusting of these bank-notes. Not until they form a government- whatever that means. But there are things that aways have value. Precious metals, tobacco, alcohol-+‘’

‘’+nude+ Magazines’’ red added without thinking, using the American word before she stopped herself.

‘’+a what?+’’ Elidi asks causing the disguised rouge to sigh

‘’+A kind of American thing, a bound coverless book where each page have a detailed image.+’’ She answered, she would be flustered if she wasn’t already red with her face obscured. ‘’+they have one kind where it have women in… suggestive poses and clothing….. or lack of clothing+’’

‘’+Ok- luxuries+’’ Dhav added to the list. ‘’+but I am setting those magazines as a separate item. I can’t place it but these people seems… prudish…+’’

‘’+Probably the cloths+’’ Olitic answers ‘’+their women leave a lot for the imagination. I kinda like it+’’ the bard says with a smile before the next suggestion comes up.

‘’English’’ Elidi added ‘’+we need to learn these people’s language eventually. As well as how to use their things, at least the stuff their common people use. I doubt they would teach us how to drive a steel elephant or a plane+’’

‘’English’’ Dhav added to the list.

‘’+maybe some of their money anyways+’’ Olitic muse before she consider something ‘’+other than that, cloths. Not just a set for us but also what they can spare for the rest of the refugees. It would probably help us all find work if we are dressed like these people not to mention improve moral. Tho I do think that we should keep in mind what they are doing for us when we make the request+’’

‘’+Ok cloths+’’ Dhav says ‘’+maybe also-+‘’

‘’+hold it+’’ Dula says before Dhav could add a item. ‘’+How much should we tell them?+’’

‘’+What do you mean?+’’ Dhav asks.

‘’+well, the Imperium is’t dead+’’ Elidi added ‘’+there’s still cities who claim to be continuing it who might see this as treasonous, and even if it isn’t- I don’t want to endanger people with what we tell these Americans. If we know somewhere the Imperium kept dangerous magic items- these inexperienced people might cause some issues+’’

‘’+also telling the Americans to little may also endanger them+’’ Red added ‘’+60 thousand people with gods knows what. Who is by their own count looking at a hungry winter at best, who never had to deal with Demihuman…+’’ Red says looking at the situation ‘’+I can see them getting nasty very fast once it becomes a ‘us or them’ situation+’’

‘’+We have magic+’’ Dula answers ‘’+Haven’t seen what they can do. Only want gun because claim to beat armor+.’’

‘’ABC’’ Red says simply ‘’+even if that is bull, they can probably brew up something big with whatever they use to make the alchemicals they would need for all the stuff they use+.’’ She says shaking her head. ‘’+I think we should tell them where food and oil is. No gold, no riches, don’t tell them about defenses or anything. Tho we should Tell them how to identify the breeding fortresses for the monsters+.’’
>>
>>6268117
4/4

‘’+tell them about monsters+’’ Dula added ‘’+maybe food. Not oil- Don’t like the metal ships, prefer them not have alchemical to burn+’’

‘’+Yea- I see no danger with telling them about the creatures of our world+’’ Elidi added. ‘’+nor the names of the places they found- tho with their planes. They probably know more about them physically than we do+’’

‘’+Maybe it’s a test on trust?+’’ Olitic added ‘’+to see if they can trust us not to try to lie to them+’’

‘’+I could be honest about holding back information+’’ Dhav says only for Red and Dula to shake their heads.

‘’+That’s risky, not as risky as lying+’’ Dula says

‘’+Why- they have their own secrets I bet+’’ Olitic asks ‘’+if we ask them to explain how to make a ‘ABC’, do you think they would just tell us? How about a plane? Or even an alchemical burner?+’’

‘’+They may be offended+’’ Red says ‘’+and we are dealing with their leaders in a stressful situation. Until we find a permanent solution for us and the refugees- kinda have to be careful. Also we don’t know what they can do without magic. For all we know they have a vile of truth to make up for a lack of zone of truth+’’

‘’+I thought you didn’t like these people?+’’ Elidi says

‘’I don’t trust them but they are the hand that is feeding us’’ Red say simply.

Taking a deep breath she considers what to tell these Americans about the pictures. Looking at them she recognized 4 different cities, Goodport with its mint- seemly the only thing left of the port. Granithelm- known for its ground oil base ship sealants but adorn in an unfamiliar flag. Grainburg with its large silos, hopefully full of magically preserved grain. And Keep, the main mustering port in this part of the archipelago and still flying the banners of the Shining Imperium.

Other than that she recognizes several different monsters, a wizard tower, and one of the few Dragon of War ships of the Imperium, now flying the black flag.

Dhav decided;

>>Tell all she knows
>>Tell them nothing (negotiations aborted)

Or she simply withhold information on;

>>Food
>>ground oil
>>treasures
>>defenses
>>monsters
>>allegiance
>>magic items.
>>write in.

Should Dhav admit to why she is withholding information?

>>yes
>>no

Dhav considers if she should add anything to the list of potential items to ask for.

>>Write in.

Current list of items that can be asked during negotiators;

plane ride
Gun(s) and ammo
Legal narcotics (Alcohol, tobacco, chocolate)
luxury goods (jewelry, entertainment, ‘entertainment’)
Cloths
American money.

ah fuckit, we're more or less casting our lot in with them at this point. Not telling them important things could come back to bite us later, but we can see if we can leave out some fine details.
>yes
But only if directly asked, otherwise it just doesn't come up. Those details aren't important right now and we've only just met and it's a bit soon to tell them tactical information. That'll come later on a case by case basis after we've established some trust.

Learning English isn't even really something that should be considered a demand, it's absolutely vital if we're going to work with them. The rest of the things should all be very reasonable requests they shouldn't have much trouble filling and we'll need a stipend if we're going to stay around - we can use the local money so long as it's worth something, if that stops being the case we'd want to be paid in kind.

Dhav walk back to the American leaders. They pauses their own discussion to look at the half orc.

‘’We’re willing to tell you, but we humbly request payment to do so’’ Dhav says.

‘’What’s the price?’’ The Admiral asks.

‘’firstly, if we are to be working together more, we would like to learn English-‘’

‘’Done’’ the general says waving a hand. ‘’English, how to use our basic stuff, how to hail a cab. Anything else?’’

‘’we request some guns and the ammo to use them.’’ She asks ‘’bullets I believe they are called.‘’

The Senitor cross he’s arms ‘’why do you want guns?’’ He say- slightly suspicious.

‘’we been told claims that such weapons have rendered armor… obsolete.’’ The Wizard explains ‘’I can’t speak to magical armor- but plenty of people use only simple metal armor, and having such a tool would be an advantage if we do further work for you.’’

The Senitor balks a little but then the Captain holds up a hand to pause the elected leader. ‘’We will have to talk on that point. It could be a security concern.’’ The coasts guard captain states ‘’even unintentionally you can do a lot of damage with a small gun’’

‘‘I understand, on top of that we wish for clothes.’’ Now the American leaders look a little confused ‘’Preferably in the style of you Americans. Hopefully it’ll help us with finding work among your people. As well as what can be spared for the refugees to replace clothing that had worn out even before everything have happened’’

The general smirk ‘’gotta dress to impress’’ he says. ‘’Tho I don’t know what could help with… that’’ the man say, discreetly gesturing at the blue teifling. ‘’Honestly I thought the sooner you guys are out and about, the easier it would get for you out there.’’

‘’I’ll touch on that another time’’ the Wizard says, looking at the gem on the inside of the cloke. ‘’We also would accept legal narcotics and your money’’ she says looking back at the 4 ‘’tobacco, alcohol, chocolate- those things are valuable anywhere and we can trade for them. Meanwhile it sounds like your banknote ‘dollars’ is still of value to you, tho if that change we would want to be paid in kind.’’

‘’That should not be much of an issue’’ the Admral states ‘’we do have some pettie cash and some of that stuff at the naval exchange’’

The men look at each other for a moment, exchanging a few hush tones before they turn back to the Wizard. ‘’Ok- tell us what you know, and if it lead to us finding sources of food and oil, and you will learn English and get you and your compatriots a set of cloths. Anything more than that will depend on the quality of the information we are told’’

Dhav mull on it for a moment. ‘’That might have to do.’’ As she grab the first set of photos- ‘‘Goodport’’ she says as she hand them back to the 4 men who have taken out materials to take notes ‘’Goodport, is- or was- a financial center for the Shining Empire in this segment of the archipelago. Look like the city was burned to the ground, it was known for its luxury industries and merchant halls. I doubt much of that survived the fire.’’

‘’what is this structure here?’’ the Senitor asks- pointing at the lone standing building. The mint and palace of the city.

‘’That’s the palace. Basically the capital building for the island of that size’’ the wizard explains, leaving out that it’s might be full of treasures and acted as a bank. ‘’The island itself is not well known for its fields. But with such a drop in population there might be some coastal villages you can trade with for food, tho the city ruins might contain magic items, sometimes they are resistant to fire- other times not.’’

Dhav grab the next set of pictures. ‘’Wizard towers’’

‘’Wizard towers?’’ The captain asks

‘’towers where independent wizards research Magic and enchant magic items’’ Dhav explains ‘’also brew harder potions like healing potions. If you want to find magic items you can find them there. Tho they can be dangerous as multiple generations of wizards and their students would amass dangerous magical items. There’s a reason most of these are somewhat isolated’’ before she move to the next set

‘’Granithelm City, a Dwarvan city. What you see here is the surface city that mainly serve to protect the entrance and to service the port’’ she explains pointing at what is visible on the picturs ‘’Tho- I don’t recognize the flag’’ pointing at a prominent flag over the gates of the city built up against a mountain.

‘’It looks, strangely familiar.’’ The General muse looking at the flag depicting a twin head eagle ‘’the eagle is even holding a fasces’’

‘’Kinda disturbingly familiar’’ the Senitor added ‘’we had lots of people used such things on their flags. More than a few who made the world worse.

honestly I can’t recall anyone with that as part of their iconography’’ the wizard admits ‘’but if I have to guess Granithelm is under new rulership now that the monsters are lose. Last I heard is that they are trying to clear the monsters off their island with help from Seafire, an oil based liquid they are known for.’’

‘’Now that’s something’’ the Admiral says ‘’do they drill for their own oil?’’

‘’They are going in the short list of people to contact…’’ the General says before asking ‘’is slavery common around here? We’re not going to have someone pull up trying to sell ‘human cargo’, are we?’’

‘’quite uncommon in our world’’ Dhav says ‘’but it was standard practice in the Imperium. It was the Mad King’s favor method to end resistance and rebellion, if a City have a significant uprising that fails- a tenth of the population would be separated by lots, those who are not worth putting under chains are put to death and tossed into the ocean, the rest are split up among the empire to work the mines and other dangerous jobs…’’ she says with a sigh ‘’he managed to make it a effective method’’

‘’That’s- concerning’’ The Admiral says ‘’

‘’Anyways- Wheat-Hold’’ the wizard began, looking at a picture of a walled city with several large grain silos inside. The port seem full of ships tho the walls seem lacking in soldiers. ‘’It’s a major hub for the grain ships, and was where a major Breeding Fortress was’’ she says holding up another picture showing a mountain top fortress with one of the walls crashed down ‘’I haven’t heard much form the town, but if I have to guess the monsters got lost and are now stalking the feilds. They look to still be flying the Imperial flag, but that can mean that they are simply playing it safe while waiting for word on what to do’’

‘’Do you think they will be open to… foreign trade?’’ The general asks

‘’most likely’’ Dhav answers ‘’but no telling how they are responding to everything going on’’.

She looks at the remaining photos. ‘’These are various monsters, other than its reasonable for a group of adventurers or be able to kill one of them and that typically they can do magic like abilities- that is all I know’’ she says ‘’so far most of my jobs have been fighting people or digging through ruins’’

‘’When you say magic like abilities-‘’ the Captain asks ‘’like- translating or lights?’’

‘’Try fire, rusting metal, and so on’’ Dhav answers ‘’Grantedhelm and Wheathold should have books on the subjects on monsters if you need them’’

‘’these monsters…’’ the Senitor asks- clearly looking for the words ‘’do your people consider them… people?’’

‘’Not really’’ Dhav answered ‘’most are not much different form wild animals.’’ As she look at the final set of pictures, a well defended fortress port city with a large, enclosed, circular dock. ‘’This is Everhold, a port-fortress for the area. The Mad King used such cities to maintain control with fleets of ships.’’ She says as she hand the men the pictures.

‘’that reminds me of Cartridge’’ the captain says pointing at the port ‘’do you know how many ships this place normally have?’’

‘’Is there a reason for the hesitation?’’ the Senator asks

‘’We- trust you some what’’ Dhav answers ‘’egnoft to seek work form you, to trust you not to abuse our people in such a state’’ she says gesturing to the large room filling with people ‘’but we are concerned with being slap with treason charges, and for having things you do not understand falling in your hands.’’ She says ‘’like you finding two bags of holding and deciding to put them into each other’’

‘’what would happen there?’’ The general ask ‘’and what’s a bag of holding?’’

‘’a bag of holding is typically a 15 pound bag that can hold eaither 500 pounds or 64 square feet- which ever one gets filled first.’’ The Wizard explains ‘’it works by opening a extradimensional portal to a pocket reality. If you try to put two together your’ll open a rift that can spawn horrific demonic creatures.’’

‘’so- like bluie over there’’ the Senitor deadpans gesturing at the blue teifling

‘’No- that can come from random chance, having teifling heritage, or your parents playing with something they shouldn’t have’’ Dhav explains seriously ‘’do your mythology have stories of pissed off entities wrecking everyone’s days?’’ She asks getting nods form the almost magicless Americans ‘’doing that do a bag of holding get you one’’

‘’Is there anything else you can tell us?’’ The Admral asks.

‘’that’s all I can say’’ Dhav replied

‘’Ma’am. This is much more useful than we hoped’’ the Senator states. ‘’Tomorrow we are planning on a meeting to form a temporary government that isn’t just this….’’ He pauses, looking for a term when the General interrups ‘’makeshift junta’’ with no shortage of annoyance that… confuse Dhav a little as the Senator continues. ‘’This will allow us to decide who to contact first and how we might approach them’’

‘’I’ll find someone available to escort you into the city’’ the Admiral starts ‘’I know a tailor in town who can make something for your giant friend and your tailed friends. It won’t be the latest fashion but she can take any old rag and make it look great. As for the refugees- I’ll have word go around the base asking for donations.’’

‘’Oltic will love that’’ Dhav says with a smile. ‘’And frankly we all will be grateful.’’

‘’As for everything else…’’ the naval man continues ‘’your’ll be given 200$ to split how you wish as well as a assortment of, ‘legal narcotics’ as you put it. Would a single kind or a diversity of kinds be preferable?’’

Dhav thinks for a moment before answering ‘’multiple different kinds, bartering can suck at times like that’’ she says shaking her head.

‘’Bottle of the good stuff for each of you and some spare boxes of cigarettes and chews, and some old but still good chocolate rations from the war should be more than enough’’ the Admiral says with Dhav nodding in approval.

‘’Now the guns’’ the general added ‘’how dose 3 Pistol and a M1 Grand sound?’’ The man states ‘’we’ll show you how to use and maintain them, and each will have a box of ammunition.’’

‘’Pistol?’’ Dhav asks. The general reaches into he’s uniform jacket and pull out a small black object with a brown grip.

‘’This is one example, a Colt M1911.’’ As he push on a metal mechanism, pulling out a variant of the quiver the Grand uses. ‘’Pistols are more intended for close quarters combat and self defense.’’ As he pull back the top, ejecting the bullet. ‘’We have several crates of these things and plenty of ammo.

‘’Besides I’m sure you women would handle a smaller weapon better’’ the Senitor added only for the Wizard give hem quite a questioning look.

‘’I- ‘’ she starts with the words dying in her mouth and just move onto the guns ‘’so a Grand and 3 Colts. That’ll help us alot’’

‘’Yes but you would have to check them out when you leave the base’’ The Admral says ‘’letting you guys walk around base with your… blades… is already a bit much. Tho it’s perfectly legal to walk around the rest of Lincoln with them openly carried and holstered.’’

‘’I see… when can we start the English lessons?’’ The wizards asks

‘’later today.’’ The Admral says ‘’I’ll call the local college to see if a language professor can come over for the task, Hopefully he was in this side of the bridge when the flash happened.’’

‘’thank you.’’ Dhav responded. ‘’Is there anywhere we can securely keep our stuff?’’

The Admral thinks for a moment before responding ‘’there’s an office area attached to this where house, we can have some of my men move some spare lockers there for you people. Next to that is a bathroom with showers- it’ll be cramped but it should be egnoft to service you all’’

‘’If you excuse us’’ the General interrups ‘’we need to get going. Tomorrow we might ask you to come with us for the meeting to explain a few things to the temporary government.’’ He explains ‘’and to show those people magic.’’

‘‘Would you prefer utility magic or offensive magic?’’ Dhav asks.

‘’Offensive magic?’’ The captain asks. ‘’Whatever that can be safely done in an enclosed space’’ he explains ‘’the meeting will be at the City Hall at 10AM, we’ll have someone drive you and two of your choice to it.’’

As the wizard nods The 4 men walk out of the Wear-house, most of the American soldiers follow leaving behind 6 guarding around the entrances- tho they seem to not preventing anyone from entering or leaving.

Dhav look at her cloke’s gem. ‘’+About 20 minutes left+’’ she says to herself.

‘’+Hey Dhav!+’’ Elidi yell at the wizard ‘’+some of the Americans have dragged over a portable metal stove for cooking and some canister. They brought us some ground meat patties.+’’

‘’+a metal stove?+’’ Dhav asks

‘’+yea- I think they took a metal barrel and cut it in half+’’ the elf responded ‘’+it burns some kind of air. Oh and Olitic want to try to hit on one of them soldiers+’’

Dhav chuckles at the expected antics as she look around the large room. It seems like most of everyone from the Morning Flower have claimed a cot for their own, people putting their remanning processions under them. Over at the far end she noticed a pair of the guards are talking to each other- making little effort to hide that they are pointing at the human-orc couple nor the two elf women who are together.

‘Then there’s the instructions David and Greg written for us’ the wizard thinks. ‘’I should have egnoft time for that’’

Dhav walk out of the large building and to a small makeshift outdoor kitchen area the refugees had begun to set up. One of the long wagons had backed up next to the covered area with American soldiers offloading some boxes, other American soldiers can be seen using some kind of metal stoves to cook food. The shelter consisted of wooden poles holding up a slanted sheet of metal, all surrounded by a ‘patio’ made from the gray mortar. The buildings surrounding the patio seem to be more Wearhouses while the sea can be seen to the east. The area lit by the afternoon sun.

Elidi and Olitic are standing next to a strange metal contraption with an American soldier putting it together. he screw a flexible metal tube onto a large white metal canister of some kind.

‘’+Hey Dhav+’’ Olitic says as she noticed the half orc ‘’+we started to set up a fire pit when these…+’’ Olitic turn to the American man, who’s now fiddling with a toothpick and a small box. ‘’+Yunk+?’’ She asks the man.

‘’Yank’’ the man answered as the toothpick lights on fire ‘’and my name is Jackson’’

‘’+Yank set this up+’’ the bard finished ash she look back at Dhav. ‘’+it seems like the bulk of it is gonna be noodles and a red sauce. Tho there’s also some meat disks.+’’

‘’+We are also going to be finishing off the meat from Pinewood+’’ Elidi says. ‘’+Mr Jackson is going to show us how to cook these… ‘burgers’+’’

‘’+Or…+’’ the bard says with a sly grin ‘’+you could help me out with something…+’’

Dhav crossed her arms ‘’+Still not interested+’’ she deadpans with a barely concealed smile.

‘’+Not that+’’ the shameless dragon born bard snark back with a smile ‘’+ I want to try to flirt with one of these Yanks, nothing serious but as they say; When in WaterDeep+’’

‘’You’re going to try regardless aren’t you?’’ Dhav simply stated.

‘’You know me to well’’ Olitic chuckles.

The round patties of mince meat sizzle on the grates that keep them over the ‘natural gas’ fire. Periodically a blue ethereal hand would gently pick one up and flip one or remove another of the seasoned disks. The expression of magical might set one of the patties down on a bread bun and adorn the expertly cooked meat with lettuce, tomatoes and chopped onions before topping it with a seeded top bun.

‘’+Here you go+’’ A half orc wizard says with a smile as she hand the meal to an elf refugee from the merchant ship.

The haggered elf woman takes a bite of the exotic meal and smile brightly. ‘’+Thank you+’’

‘’So- Magic?’’ a mussel bound American Navy-man asks as he serves some ‘spaghetti’ to the crew and passengers of the Morning Flower. ‘’Whatever voodoo that is- it certainly make a mean burger’’

Dhav finish putting lettuce, tomato, and cheese on another patty held between two breads. ‘’it’s Mage Hand. A low level spell for my people. I can’t say I know anything known as ‘Voodoo’’ she explains as she hand the burger to a orc child who thanks the wizard ‘’it allows you to manipulate objects and other things from a distance’’

‘’So you can smack someone across a room?’’ The man asks

‘’not really’’ Dhav answer as she use the spell to discreetly snatch the hat off of one of the Americans and put the green hat on her own head without any outward expression of the mischief ‘’I can’t use the spell for anything hostile, At least not without a lot of creativity.’’ She says ‘’I know for one i couldn’t use it to shoot a crossbow’’

‘’Still sounds mighty useful’’ the chef reply with contained mirth. ‘’and you don’t feel anything while using them, And how long can you do the spell?’’ As a gem in Dhav’s sleeve begins to pulse.

‘’it’s a muted sensation’’ Dhav answers as the last of the refugees get their meal. ‘’just egnoft to manipulate something, And this spell can last as long as I have some focus on it.’’ She explains ‘’I can pick up a hot coal and I would be able to tell that it’s hot but not feel the pain. You could try to stab it and I would simply feel that something went through my hand without pain.’’

The American make hemself a plate of food as he digest the information with a nod ‘’the name’s Jim by the way. Normally a chef on one of our ships.’’

‘’Dhav’’ the woman introduced herself late, using her physical hand to shake the man’s hand as the translation spell began to fade ‘’I thank you all again.’’ She takes a bite of one of the burgers she have made for everyone. ‘’This is good- I see why you use so many different spices. Worth it’’

The chef chuckles ‘’Welcome to America, land of the free, home of good food’’

Rowan can’t help but to stare up at the tall buildings as she walk down the streets of this strange city, a city whom familiar aspects only serve to highlight the differences.

‘’So- you Christians are broken into multiple groups who interpret the words of this Jesus differently?’’ The paladin summarized as she look at a large mural displaying a picture of an American drinking from a glass bottle ‘I wonder what is the significance of that painting’ she can’t help but wonder.

‘’More or less’’ Pastor Smith answered as Rowan and the smith walks pass a burned out horseless wagon being attached to another horseless wagon with a crane of some kind. ‘’it was the case even early on when we were being persecuted’’

Rowan noticed that she have fallen a little behind the family and rushes back up, her metal armor clanking every step on the way. ‘’I am surprised, especially with how many of these competing temples would be within a single city like Abraham. Even the biggest of our cities would only have one or two withonly major variations from catering to the needs of the congregation’’ as the group pass one of these temples to the ‘Father of Jesus’.

‘’it’s partly because we got freedom of religion. We as a people came from many groups of people, among them those who was forced out of their homelands by religious persecution.’’ The American explain ‘’now- you mentioned educating me on your magic?’’

‘’I see…’’ the pastor says with a modicum of doubt. ‘’it’s… Magic is mentioned in the Bible but as a negative or influence’’ he explains ‘’tho at the same time, this ‘comprehend language’ dose feel… biblical…’’

The simply palidan shrugs ‘‘I can’t speak to that. It’s up to you and people of your faith to figure it out. But there is dangers with magic.’’ She explains ‘’magic is power, and there are those who use such power for evils-‘’ she pauses as a well dressed man in a variant of these American clothing, a thin-striped thing known as a ‘suite’ with a wide brim hat of the same pattern. The man thick with the smell of evil while he carries a black case for some instrument of these people.

‘’Such seem to be the constant in history’’ the Pastor deadpans ‘’anyways, its lunchtime, want to grab a bite?’’

The group enters what appears to be a very clean tavern of these people built on the bottom floor of a seven floor building. The interior consists of a counter with a kitchen mostly obscured, visible by a window where a man can be seen cooking. Patrons sit at tables and chairs that seem bolted to the floor that are up against the wall on the opposite side of the counter. Others are sitting on stoles around the counter. One of its walls are covered in small black, white, and gray images of people and local locations while the floor is a blue and red checkered tile. It seems that a common served food is a meat sandwich with a side of chopped up potatoes. It looks like a tavern of some kind but lacks the common smell of alcohol and sawdust. Let alone the… other smells of such an establishment.

‘’it would be a honor- but i don’t have any gold on me’’ Rowan admits ‘’or whatever you people use instead’’

‘’It’s alright- It’s on me’’ the pastor replied ‘’tho I imagine right now they would accept gold’’

In short order the group finds one of the built in tables. Shortly after an American teenager in an apron and dress approach to hand out sheets of paper to the group while Rowan fiddle with her gauntlets to get them off.

‘’So- do you want a water, coke, or lemonade?’’ The pastor relay the question of the teenager.

Rowan gets her left gauntlet off ‘’I’ll have a Lemonade please’’ the armored warrior requests ‘’I always love to try local foods and drinks when possible.’’

The pastor relay the order to the teen before turning back to the paladin ‘’After they get our drinks, we should be ready to order food’’

‘’I see- what is a ‘Lemonade’ anyways?’’ Rowan asks as she look at the paper. It dose have pictures of the offered meals. ‘Wait- when did I learn their numbers’ she thinks as she recognizes the symbols.

‘’It’s a drink made from sugar and lemon juice.’’ The pastor answered.

‘’lemon?’’ Rowan asks further as she takes off her helmet. ‘’Can’t say I heard of that before’’

‘’Oh a lemon is-

‘’Wait- knights can be black?’’ The youngest of the Smiths blurts out as she jump up on her seat in a mixture of awe and excitement, leaning across the table. ‘’And a lady? Can I be a knight daddy?’’ The little girl- who couldn’t be more than six- continues in the language she should not know.

Rowan look around the tavern. Hardly anyone pay the group mind at the outburst in, to them, must be foreign gibberish.

‘’Dear…’’ the wide eye pastor say to the young child as the entire family looks at her in confusion. ‘’Can… you… understand both us and Mr-err Misses Rowan.’’ The man hesitantly asks to the nods of the girl ‘’for how long?’’

‘’ummm…’’ girl says thinking. ‘’i just started to… understand more and more… then suddenly- I can just speak it…’’ the girl says, confused herself. ‘’Did I do something wrong’’

‘’not at all Marry’’ the pastor sooth the child before he switch to English between hem, he’s wife, and the- now fluent- Common speaker

Rowan feels a tap in her armor and looks at the girl sitting next to him. She look back at the paladin with narrow, judging eyes. ‘’craft of witches better not be bad’’ she says in broken common, crossing her arms- a act that seem to consern Joseph at the end of the bench-like seat. Even the teenager worker holding a tray of drinks in clear glass cups sense the tension as she set them down.

Rowan smiles at the brave child and ruffle her brown hair. ‘’No offense taken Pastor Smith’’ as she look at the man. ‘’it’s always good to be protective of your friends and family, I cannot fault that.’’ While the nervous tavern worker hand out the drinks ‘’Not as a person and not as a paladin of Lathander.’’ Then she turn back to Maudlin. ‘’But I mean no harm nor ill intent, but please keep that light burning. There’s always a need for good to fight evil.’’

The child look at Rowan in confusion until Marry talks to her in English. She then look back at the warrior and take a deep breath. ‘’Alright… sorry Miss Rowan.’’

‘’All forgiven’’ Rowan says ‘’how about in the name of good grace- you help me choose a meal’’

Maudlin smiles at that and proceeds to point at the picture of a sandwich with melted cheese. It has a small bowl of a red soup next to it and a side of what look like potatoes cut into sticks then cooked.

Rowan show the worker the picture ‘’sorry about that ma’am. A little confusion among us’’ she says as Marry elected to translate, tho the little girl’s explanation seem to last longer than expected and issued a response form the young woman.

‘’Miss Rowan, she is wondering where your from’’ the youngest of the Smiths rely.

‘’That is a good question’’ the pastor added ‘’I assume this world is full of various of nations, or something similar’’ while the teenager grab the menus.

‘’well, it is, was born in the city of Granithold but did my training Jaden, the capital of the Shining Imperium.’’ The Paladin explains ‘’Granithold was a dwarvan city with a large human minority, while Jaden was mostly human with a large Tiefling community, for some reason they get born there much more often’’ followed by Marry relaying some of that to the worker.

At the mention of the Tiefling people, the eldest smith open he’s notebook and open it to a page with some drawings of the ship’s Tieflings, The pastor look- puzzled. ‘’That’s a- interesting look for a people’’ he says diplomatically.

‘’they got fiendish outsider blood in them’’ Rowan explains. ‘’tho- dispute having some demon or devil in their ancient bloodline, they can be as good or evil as anyone else’’

At some point of the conversation, Mr Smith have taken out a notebook to take notes ‘’That’s… concerning’’ the pastor says as Marry gets some wide eyes. ‘’spooky’’ the girl added in common.

‘’they… unfortunately have a long history of mistreatment because of that’’ Rowan says with a sigh.

‘’What about the Dragonborn’s?’’ Marry asks while looking at another page of the book. ‘’They kinda look like a Mole-men’’

‘’so we got people with devil like appearances, another who look like a antisemitic bit of propaganda’’ the pastor can’t help but to half joke ‘’got anyone who look like a squid face monster worthy of nightmares?’’

‘’Several- actually’’ Rowan answers seriously ‘’the worse is Mindflayers-‘’ as she grab the notebook and flip to a new page. ‘’May I borrow one of your drawing sticks? They are one of the outsiders that can be found at time.’’ As she starts drawing ‘’I never encountered one but a few of my temple did. They are evil intelligent creatures who have the capability to control the minds of others to achieve their evil deeds’’

Rowan slide the book back. Written on the page is all she knows on how to combat the beasts and a crude drawing of it. Marry look at it with a fearful expression with even Mr Smith looking worried.

‘’They are just one of the creatures that can be found out there.’’ The holy warrior warns ‘’one of those who could come to your people with ill intent. You people have many wonders, I fear what a Illithid
would do with them.’’ Before noticing the look on Marry’s face ‘’But such monsters is why people like me fight.’’ And give a reassuring smile ‘’when something go bump in the night, we bump them harder’’

‘’and with the power of god- anything is possible, even fighting such beasts’’ the father say reassuring he’s daughter.

‘’are they… real?’’ The little girl asks hesitantly.

‘’Maybe’’ ‘’yes’’ the pastor and paladin says at the same time as the teenager return with the food to hand out.

Rowan eats the cheesy sandwich and give it an appreciative nod as she thinks about these Americans. ‘A odd people with odd beliefs.’ She thinks before dipping the roasted bread in the red soup. ‘But so far i can’t see any major red flags that she should alert the church about, but also I know so little.’

‘’So- Pastor Smith, is there any other gods among your people?’’ Rowan asks. ‘’I remember mentions of this ‘freedom of religion’ you have’’

‘’we- Christans that is’’ The pastor answers ‘’don’t believe that there are any other gods. That our god- Emmanuel, Jehovah, among other titles and names, is the only god and only path to spiritual salvation. With that path being accepting Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.’’

‘’So that’s why he is depicted being tortured’’ Rowan states in realization ‘’I’m guessing he died on a crucifix’’ to which the child and pastor nods

‘’And then he rose three days later.’’ The pastor added ‘’after he preformed miracles and shared he’s teachings to he’s disciples and others.’’ He says before clearing he’s through ‘’getting back on tract. We do have freedom of religion, tho when the country was founded it was under the context of the various Christian denominations- we have also applied it generally. In Abraham your’ll find Jews, who believe in the same god as us but don’t believe in Jesus. Then there’s some Buddhists here, who follow the teachings of a man name Buddha but don’t believe he is a god. Go west to the reservation and your’ll encounter some native Americans who believe in spirits and ancestors.’’

‘’I got to say’’ the Paladin says, trying to find a way to put it ‘’such a notion of- one god- is… unique. Most of the religions i know recognize that there are other gods and that the gods interact with each other.’’

‘’We have a term for both notions if it helps’’ the pastor explains ‘’Polytheism, or the belief of multiple gods, and Monotheism- or the belief of one god. When Christianity was founded our world was full of Polytheistic beliefs, and among them a lot of stuff like human sacrifices’’

Rowan flinched at the mention of the practice. ‘’Barbarity.’’ She says with venom ‘’No god worth following would demand such sacrifice, if one is to be sacrificed- it should be in battle protecting the weak, not on a alter appeasing the ego of one unworthy of their power’’ She says with a shaken head in disgust dipite her eating the good tasting food.

The pastor nods before adding ‘’Is it common in your world?’’ The pastor asks. ‘’Polytheism and human sacrifice that is’’

‘’as you call; polytheism, yes.’’ The Paladin says ‘’with utmost respect, to proclaim your god is the only god is a bit… rude. Don’t be surprised if curious scholars take it the wrong way’’ She explains ‘’as for human sacrifice- it’s rare yet far too common. Any amount is to common’’ she expresses with simmering righteous fury. ‘’Thankfully good and nutrial gods are the most commonly worshipped. And the worshipers of the evil gods are… problematic by default.’’

‘’I see’’ the pastor says as Rowan look at her almost empty yellow drink.

‘’I do have a pressing question’’ the Paladin starts ‘’What is a lemon?’’ Rowan asks ‘’and by the dawn please tell me you have seeds for them that came with you. This Lemonade is to good to be lost’’

‘’Oh- they are small yellow fruits with a pretty thick skin’’ the man explains ‘’a kind of fruit we call citrus fruit and are known for being sour, they grow on trees and is very useful to prevent scurvy’’

‘’Uncle Fred got a lemon tree’’ Marry added before she get a look of realization ‘’wait- could we be at a different… laddertude meaning that our wether is different form home’’

‘’latitude’’ The pastor gently corrected ‘’and, that is true now that I think about it, I hope it won’t mess with our crops that bad.’’

‘’for what it’s worth, this area have a lot of island rich in farmland.’’ As the Paladin finishes her meal ‘’mild temperatures both ways, good rainfall.’’

‘’So- Rowan, do you save princes instead sense your a lady knight?’’ Marry asks the Paladin ‘’and slay dragons?’’

Madelyn chuckle and added to the question ‘’Knights sometimes marry rescued princesses, do girl knights sometime marry princess?’’

Rowan chuckles. ‘’I haven’t slain any dragons, yet.’’ She says with mirth ‘’nor have I rescued any nobility either, tho I did hear of such cases of whirlwind romances after a rescue. I would not mind if I rescued a- ‘’

‘’+well….+’’ the boy hesitantly begins to answer before he look at he’s parents, tho Julia look puzzled, Aaron give hem a ‘go on’ hand motion. ‘’+…. I saw what to me looked like… a pair of women in a… relationship, elves I believe they were.+’’ he explains ‘’+and they seemed to been taking care of a human child. No one seemed to have paid them any notice.+’’ he added with a blush ‘’+ well- people seemed to have noticed among those, natives? But they did’t seem to care.+’’

——————

Rowan look at the smiths with a puzzled expression as they talk to each other- with Joseph saying something about women. For some reason this causes Julia to look very surprised.

‘’wait, are you a dyke ?’’ The youngest smith ask the warrior with complete innocence.

‘’I’m sorry- a what?’’ Rowan asks ‘’I don’t think I have that word in my language’’

‘’Oh, it means…’’ the child pauses ‘’um-‘’

The pastor sighs ‘’it’s a rude word and it means a woman who like other women but not men’’ he explains ‘’a taboo among our people.’’

‘’Oh’’ Rowan answers ‘’a lesbian, I’m bisexual- meaning i like both men and women’’ and then notices that Maudlin shift uncomfortably in her seat a little while Marry look a little surprised. ‘’I’m guessing that is also a taboo’’

‘’It is’’ the pastor answer, keeping a practiced calm voice ‘’especially being… explicit about it around children. Both- and the male equivalent- are sins in my faith, tho the Bible express the idea that we hate the sin- love the sinners. but admittedly not everyone follow such teachings well. Not to mention we have some laws that is against that kind of… actions… one way or another’’

‘Both a red flag and a green flag’ Rowan thinks as she look at the children at the table and then at the mother of them who look a fair bit unhappy. ‘’I do apologize for braking the taboo, especially around your children, but not for being who I am.’’ She begin to explain ‘’In most of the Shining Islands it is not a taboo but seen as just is. Some people are gay- others are bi- most are straight. If you people decide to be open to the rest of the islands you will encounter ‘explicit’ displays and answers.’’ She says, keeping her cool ‘’you won’t see any explicit …. Inappropriate…. acts in the open if that is what your worried of but kissing, hugging, stuff like that- will be seen as we see it no different than if a man and woman dose it.’’ Shaking her head at the notion of this taboo.

‘’Is there any way you people… advertise your… preference’’ the pastor ask with a fair bit of curiosity mixed with caution. ‘’once we pick up on those I can see some of my countrymen being… proactively negative about it’’

‘’Thanks for the warning’’ Rowan replay before thinking for a moment ‘’well, one of the Mad King’s advisers recently introduced a series of small flags, I believe mine would be… blue purple and pink from bottom to top’’ Rowan explains after some thought ‘’but that is mainly only used during local celebrations involving love and lovers to show who is available for what. Each island or chain of islands kinda have their own version of the celebration but some have adopted the flags to put on their clothing but never as an armband.’’ She says, recalling the strange instruction ‘’No one I know use them casually other than the adviser who have a black and white stripe one with a rainbow upside down V pattern, the one for straight people’’ she explains- then realize she never picked up on the full American alphabet- yet can recognize that the shape looked like a ‘V’… the 22th letter of their alphabet… ‘’I don’t recall all of the flags but typically they are stripped or have some kind of stripe pattern.

As the smiths return to talk among each other Rowan lean back and think about whatever else she noticed about this… spell. ‘Pastor Smith seems to be talking like someone who is using Comprehend Language-‘ she muses ‘but Marry simply sounds fluent, or near it, and Madulin only sounds like she knows some Common…’ ‘’I wonder how much they will remember’’ Rowan asks herself out loud as the pastor gets her attention.

‘’Well- Miss Rowan’’ the pastor says ‘’I’m sorry but I think we have to….’’ The man trails off, he’s eyes gong a little wide. Then, with a sigh, start speaking in English that Marry begins to translate

‘Well- it seem to be temporary for Pastor Smith’ the woman muse.

‘’Um- dad says that he can’t speak Common anymore’’ the little girl relay.

‘’He’s spell wore off’’ Rowan answered ‘’it seems like for hem at least it was some normal kind of comprehending language spell.’’

‘’Oh’’ Marry respond ‘’well- dad also says we should be getting back home. It was nice to meet you Rowan, and he would like to hand you a copy of the Bible ’’ She relay as the pastor take out a thick book with a black cover and hand it to Rowan. ‘’Do you think I will lose my ability to speak Common?’’ The child asks.

Rowan smiles softly ‘’unfortunately yes, but you can still learn the language. Also whatever you picked up as yourself and not as someone under a spell will be remembered ’’ she says ‘’we, may it be myself, my co-adventurers, or others of my kind can teach you Common, meanwhile we can learn English.’’

The girl smiles at that ‘’I want to learn your language properly, when this wears off.’’ She says ‘’it’s…’’ for a moment Rowan is sullen that the spell worn off before the girl found the words ‘’nice? To speak to someone of another language’’ surprising the warrior a little.

‘’I understand. I know Common sign language and Dwarvish.’’ The Paladin says ‘’it opens up opportunities and stories. Allowing you to learn more wisdom.’’ Smiling as she recall the halfing bard that taught her Dwarvish. ‘’Not to mention jokes and sayings,- =May your forged metal gleam=‘’ adding one such saying at the end

The girl look puzzled ‘’Was that- Common?‘’

‘’It was Dwarvish’’ Rowan answered, a little puzzled herself. ‘’It more or less means ‘May your task get done well’’ ‘Why did’t that translate for her?’ Rowan ask herself.

While the two talked, the pastor catch the attention of the same teenager worker to pay for the meal. Rowan watches as the holyman takes out a strange, bound and folded leather object and what Rowan is able to recognize as an old, battered coin purse of some manner. He takes out a green peace of paper, a 1 followed by a symbol the warrior seem to somehow recognized as meaning ‘’full currency’’, a ‘S’ with two lines going down from top to bottom. Followed by a large coin and a handful of small copper coins.

‘’Thank you again for the meal Pastor Smith’’ Rowan says as she put back on her Gauntlets and helmet ‘’If you ever need help among our world, be free to seek me and my fellow adventurers out.’’ she then take out some scratch parchment and grab one of the pencils still on the table ‘’this is the carrier address for the temple at Granithelm and Jaden. I… don’t know how well functioning the carrier guild is right now, but it would allow your people to exchange letters.’’ As she hand the paper to the pastor.

‘’Oh- like the post office?’’ Marry respond. ‘’Here’’ she herself write out an address on her own scrap of paper ‘’it’s the P.O. Box for daddy’s church, below it is the address- we have services every Sunday if you want to attend’’

Rowan smiles and nod ‘’I’ll try to catch one when I can.’’ As she get out of the strange peice of furniture along with the other Smiths. ‘’It’s been a pleasure to meet you all’’ the warrior says to the family ‘’May the Dawn-light shine on you.’’ As the little child relay the farewell Rowan put her helmet and gauntlets back on.

‘’Godspeed’’ Marry return a farewell.

Rowan walk down one of the many streets of Abraham, keeping to the gray mortar following the lead of the other walkers who avoid the black unless they were crossing it. The Paladin cannot help but to be further impressed by the layout of the metropolis. While also noticing that her armor catching a lot of attention form the Americans she passed by.

‘Most cities smaller than this need a guide’ the Paladin muse to herself as she look to her east, down one of the long streets that allow her to see the water front. ‘But here most buildings are on a grid. All you need is cordial directions and a general idea where something is in relation to another’ as she keep her eye out for that strange metal draw bridge. ‘Are all American cities like this? No defensive walls, very orderly, so… almost Lawful-minded?’ She says to herself as she look down one of the streets and see the bridge a good forth of a mile away.

‘’i wonder how long it took to build one of these towers’’ Rowan says to herself as she come to a momentary stop at one of the tallest of the structures to get a better look. The armored warrior looking up as a blue uniformed American guard smoke some herb by its semi-ornate doors. The… well fed… American look at the paladin with a slightly confused look, as if he never seen someone walking around in full armor.

This building is wider at the bottom than the top, but oppose to say; a pyramid or spire, Every 5 floors or so it would narrow by simply pulling back the walls on its east and west sides, while its north side where Rowan is looking remained flushed from ground to roof.

‘’I would hate to have to walk to the top every day’’ Rowan says to herself for a moment as the blue uniformed man disregard her. then she notice…. Something- no not something-

‘’Shit!’’ The woman curses in her tongue as she recognize that someone just jumped off one of the upper floors of the tower. With very little time Rowan-

Over the sound of her own beating heart Rowan can begin to hear the sound of screaming. ‘’….aaaaaaaaa’’
Rowan hold out her arms and move around, her clanking armor doing little to drown out the sound of the terror of the, man? She’s sure it’s a man. Small broken bits of glass tink off the holy warrior’s armor, glistening beautifully in the sun. ‘’aaaaaAAAAAA’’ Stepping back, keeping the tumbling victim above her, the woman pray to Lethander to illuminate her han-

THUD, CLANG, SMASH

The force of the catch send the armor bound warrior back and into a parked car of these American. Her helmet rung even with the padding, the back of it hitting the unyielding vehicle. The metal protecting the woman as her left elbow smashes through one of the clear side windows of the black painted contraption, denting the white side door with the other. Rowan is sure the back of her boot scraped off some paint as she managed to use her body to deny the reaper one more victim.

‘’Praise the Dawn, It’s raining men’’ Rowan quips, singing a line to a ‘tavern hym’ she heard once as she held the captured American man bridal style, using the horseless carriage to help support her as she stands back fully up. For a moment she flex her legs and shoulders, making sure nothing is broken. ‘’I’ll feel that in the morning’’

The young man seem dazed, looking at the warrior with wonder even as Rowan lift up her face plate to get a better look at hem. He seems to be impailed in the left shoulder by what seems like a letter opener or some other small ornate knife, the shallow wound staining he’s blue jacket at a slow trickle of blood. A fresh black eye on he’s left eye and rip on he’s right sleeve give the warrior the impression that he was in a fist fight. The ‘white’ human man himself is not that heavy, tall and lanky if anything. If she had to guess this man is in he’s late twenties, maybe early thirties.

‘’Are you ok sir?’’ Rowan asks in common as she takes the American to under a small awning in-front of the tall structure. The blue uniformed man look at the display shocked before he rushes up to help as Rowan knelt down, sitting the injured man up against a wall.

The man look at the woman ‘’+Thank you+’’ he says ‘’+Thank you+’’ with barely contained tearful eyes as he continues to talk in English and pointing up, trying to talk as much to Rowan as to the blue uniformed man. After a moment the blue clad man rushes off, running to one of the strange clear glass structures that dotted the mortar foot paths.

‘’Rowan’’ the Paladin points at herself before pointing to the man while looking hem over for injuries. It seems like the man got very lucky and only have scraps and bruises outside of the knife. While looking hem over Rowan noticed that on the man’s wrist is a golden band with a clock built into it and that he’s blue suit seem to be well made with a pair of finely polished leather shoes, all of which scuffed or ripped from what happened.

‘’+Bill+’’ he replies, still dazed ‘’+Bill Burns+’’ as he point at himself and yet again continues in English. Rowan take a moment to notice he’s sent- ‘Neutral, blood, and some kind of perfume?’ She observes as she shake her head.

‘’+small English+’’ Rowan says in English as she open her bag- the man go to pull out the knife from he’s shoulder only for Rowan to grab the wrist ‘’+no+’’ she says gently as she pulls out a knife, bandages, tweezers, and a small bronze vile. ‘’+I help?+’’ to which the man nods a little.

Rowan gets to work patching the wounds of the man. Removing the letter opener she quickly cut away some of the suite’s fabric to expose the wound. ‘’Your Jehovah must been with you my friend, this is going to… +ow+’’ Rowan says calmly as she begin to clean the wound. The man curses as the vile is poured into the wound, Rowan able to smell the alcohol mixing with the faint scent of blood and man’s good-leaning neutrality. ‘’+sorry+’’ she apologizes as she the paladin wrap up the wound. ‘’+You O’kay+’’

‘’+thank you+’’ he say again, the pain seemly sobering the man. ‘’____ ____ help, ummm- three men _____ guns. __ 22nd _____ (ground?)+’’. He then take out a folded up thing of leather and open it. A black, white and gray portrait is pulled out of the man kissing a beautiful woman’s cheek. The portrait is absolutely lifelike. ‘’+Please help Lucy+’’ the man asks.

Rowan look back at the uniformed man and see hem still in the clear glass shelter, utilizing a strange device that reminds Rowan of the American’s radio. A strange… constant noise can be heard getting closer as a small crowd begins to gather around the two.

Rowan nods at the man and rush through the strange spinning glass doors of the tower and into an odd room.

It seems to be a kind of lounge area, in one front corner a number of plush chairs had been set up facing each other, in one of them a man in an American black suit is sleeping with a clear 5 o clock shadow. In another corner is a tavern counter where Rowan can smell coffee being made by a woman. It lined with more of those seats on poles the Americans like to attach to the ground. In the back of the room is a series of strange cages built into the marble-covered walls. Both of the far left and right corners have doors leading somewhere unseen. In the center of the room is a large granite black of a desk empty of a receptionist.

Rowan approaches the desk when a strange… mechanical noise is heard, after a moment something slide down behind one of the gates. A man from within opens the gate and only momentarily stop to look at Rowan oddly before he continues on he’s way to the tavern bar. He is an older gentleman in a dark red suit carrying a black suitcase.

‘’Lifts’’ Rowan says to herself. ‘The Dwarfs use them in the mines, but those require animals or manpower to operate’ the woman wonder as she approaches one of the strange lifts, walking pass the confused man. ‘and are known to be dangerous’ as she look inside and see a nice glossy bronze box with a red wood floor, next to the gate-door is a panel with numbers going from 1 to 25 on strange circles. Circle number 1 is lit up.

Approaching one of the doors, the soldier open it. It leads to a spiraling stairwell, through the center the warrior can see that is leads nearly to the top of the tower. The stairwell seen to be empty of people but the faint sounds of activity above can be heard- muffled talking echoing down.

Rowan enters the strange bronze lift and look over the number panel.

‘’Well- if one is lit up- maybe…’’

The warrior press number twenty two. ‘He mentioned the twenty second…. Ground?… maybe that word ment…. Floor?’ A bell is rung and a muted mechanical noises echoed and the adventurer is lifted up into what must be one of the grandest towers of these Americans. ‘Why would they build so many tall towers?’ The warrior wonder ‘this must be the grandest one- yet it seem to not be any kind of palace’ during the lift, the warrior cannot help but wonder just what go on in these tall towers, thinking to the tinderbox-like apartments many cities have to poor pack people in like pigs on a boat.

‘It’s feels like it already been a month’ an overworked mayor aide thinks waiting for the elevator. ‘First the Mayor decided to piss off Ford, that factory could have helped he’s campaign. Then- the fucking sky glowed’

The young man shake he’s head and take a deep breath. ‘’Easy Leon. You survived discount rapture if the Methodist nut of a pastor is right. All that is left is to get the most recent USDA agricultural survey from the 22nd floor and your’ll be ready for that big meeting tomorrow. You’ll be part of a new continental conv-‘’

The thought is interrupted as the elevator stops, a tall dark figure inhabiting the cabin. A armored gauntlet opens the gated door. A slightly dented Basinet helmet leans out and look around the office’s tiny front lobby.

‘’Foor Twenty Two?’’ The tinny yet friendly voice asks as the helmet turn to the man, spoken with an accent the political aid cannot placed. The aid look the knight up and down, he(?) seem to be in the typical full body suit of armor shown on cartoons or movies, tho the image of a rising sun is new. The man can’t help but noticed that the suit seem well used and well taken care of, covered in hammered out dents and scratches covering the six foot even body. To one side is a sward in a red leather sheath.

‘’No- this is the fifth floor. Heading up?’’ Leon asks the knight with a finger to the ceiling. ‘I should care- I should be surprised- but it’s been a far to long of a day‘ as the knight give an aid a nod ‘’here- move aside.’’ He says, gently shoving the knight aside. ‘’So- your the stripper or entertainment or something?’’ He sarcastically asks the armored warrior as he presses the 22nd floor button.

‘’Strip-per?’’ The knight asks, turning he’s helmet aside a little. ‘’Sorry, little English. I Wonderlander.’’

The aid try to think of the term for a moment but give up. ‘I heard of that term Somewhere, probably some crazy roomer from the glow, or are we calling it The Light? The Flash?-‘

Leon continue to try to recall the source of the term as the elevator rise. Occasionally looking back at the metal clad man who is easily a head taller than hem. A few times the man simply waved in response.

‘’It’s going to be a long day’’

———

The lift stops on the 22nd floor- infront of the gate the Paladin sees that it’s been blocked by some large wooden furniture shoved up against the opening, with its normally unseen backside facing her.

The American was about to say something when Rowan placed an armored gauntlet on he’s mouth. ‘’Shhhhh’’ Rowan shush the man quietly, placing a finger in-front of her face plate. The scribe-like man look back intimidated with confusion mixed in, Rowan point at the blocked gate ‘’+ow+’’ the warrior says ‘’+I help+’’ pointing to herself.

Rowan then look at the back of the bit of furniture. There’s no good place to get a hand on it and pushing lightly she feels she can move it- but not easily quietly, tho being quite should also be doable. Taking off her helmet and placing her ear up against it she can hear on the other side some muffled talking, an argument by the sound of it between two or more people.

Rowan take a step back and put back on her helmet and thinks. ‘I could be careful or I could try to blitz these people’ as she make her choices, then she look back at the, for lack of understanding of these people, Rowan is going to think hem as a scribe. ‘That scribe could get hurt by whomever endanger this ‘Lucy’ woman.’

Rowan quickly grab her javelins from her quiver. In a quick- practice motion she arch her back and arm back, adjusting her method to ‘dungeon throwing’ to avoid impaling the plaster-looking bumpy ceiling nor its flameless lights holders.

The wooden rod is jettisoned forward with full force in the same moment the Palidan noticed that the suited man pulled out he’s weapon-

As the missal fly through the air there’s a small flash matching with a loud BANG. Rowan feels something punching her in her chest and can feel something warm leaking from her back. The warrior stumbles back momentarily by the force of the hit- it’s not until she look at the shoulder dose she realizes what happened.

What she sees is a neat hole in her breast plate, red life giving fluid leak out. By grace of Lathander it dose not look like it hit anything critical nor an artery. A suit of armor that have been used by her order for over 50 years or more as parts get remade and replaced, punched straight through by what Dhav described as ‘a shard of metal propelled by a powder’.

‘No wonder these people abandoned armor and swards’ Rowan thinks as she hears a thud and a lack of a scream, looking up she sees that she have found her mark even as the severity of the wound hits her, such a small thing, such a small weapon, such deviation, ‘’almost as if a weapon touched by…..’’ the thought died as she feels a…. presence for a moment.

Rowan sees that the javilin slammed into the chest of the gunman, pinning hem to the wall. The last living moments of the American is spent looking down and grabbing at the shaft of the Javilin before he ultimately go limp. Blood trickles from the shaft and onto the wall, staining the gray carpet crimson.

Rowan’s reprieve allow her to notice more on her surroundings. She can hear the sound of some people rushing from the blocked door to the front of the tower, while behind her in the stair well echoed in hurried foot steps rising higher and higher. She takes a moment to look at the elevator and see it moving as the scribe frantically presses one of the buttons.

Taking a moment Rowan look around she sees that she is in a waiting room of sorts with plush looking chairs, the doors to the stairs and the other elevator are blocked by various bits of furniture. Looking up a moment along with the light holders, Rowan notices several small strange metal ordainments that reminds her of spurs of a horse rider’s boot. The door to one other room is still open from when the now dead gunmen have entered.

Wait by the door to ambush the next guy who comes through the door.

Save the Lay On Hands for those who might need it more than we do - we are pretty much out of the fight regardless. Those guns surely packs a punch and we don't have enough HP in our LoH pool to prevent us from getting ko'ed by the next shot.

Rowan place a hand on her hole as she rushes to the dead body. Using a full charge of Lay On Hands she feels the wound healing mostly, the magic naturally clean the wound and stop the bleeding, but Rowan knows that if she is hit with such a blow again, she wouldn’t survive.

At the body, the first thing she does is grab the weapon. Instantly the Paladin feels… something….. This American weapon is definitely a magic item of some form, but the Paladin would need to identify magic on it. ‘Wait- why would this…. 1911A1 pistol …. BE magical.’ The Palidan thought as she almost absentmindedly flick the safety on and off, knowing without reason to the purpose and effect of the action. The Paladin then pat down the body, grabbing a American wrist mounted time piece and a American novel of some sort that only gotten a little blood on it from a interior coat pocket, on the front of the novel is several American words the warrior don’t know but the background behind it prominently is simply four digits, ‘’1984’’, before she retrieve her javilin.

THUD

Down the room ahead of the palidan a door is kicked open by beast of a man holding a variant of the American rifles, a twin-barrel design and also adorn in a nearly identical thin stripe suit and with what look like a standard cap with a front brim. From down the room, which at first seem to be some sort of office for American Scribes empty of workers. the large man begins to level the weapon with hatred and anger as he screams for he’s fallen comrade among the flimsy false walls that encase the scribe desks.

> dive for cover (1D20+4 Dex check. DC 14, will add +4 to the DC to hit Rowan)

Quick question: Does the "dive for cover" option mean we're diving for cover in room 1? Because if the map is saying anything we can pretty much hold out beside the [room1-room3] door near-indefinitely given the amount of concealment and cover the wall provides.
>>
>>6283538
Unless specified- you would duck behind cover in room one. Basically you would hide behind the wall next to the door.

The check is to see if Rowan is fast enough to avoid getting shot while going for cover.

Meanwhile the DC change is to represent that Rowan is behind some decent coverage in relation to the weapon used against her due to both the cover eating bullets and it preventing good targeting of the paladin

also this is a bit of a play test to see how gun combat would work in this game. Any suggestions would be appreciated
>>
>>6283563
Assuming the map is somewhat to scale... pretty sure Rowan can gain complete concealment (if not cover as well given the relatively thin drywalls) by taking another step left, away from the door. Can't hit what you can't see, afterall.
(Also, OOC knowledge: the .45 ACP round is pretty bad against plate armor due to its subsonic nature so it likely only caused so much damage due to the point-blank range involved; a shotgun loaded with double-ought buckshot would have even worse chance going through plate although their spread meant it's likely for some pellets to hit less armored areas.)
>>
>>6283476
> Shoot (1D20+6 to hit DC11)
Who dares, wins. If that "gun" we've got can go clean through our armor then that unarmored guy wouldn't stand a chance against it.

Rowan, hand still gripping the new weapon, quickly level it at the large brute, aiming for the center mass of the man like she is shooting a hand crossbow-

BANG

Both guns go off at the same time, before the bullet casing hit the ground Rowan armor rattles as she feels it get punched all over while the American grab he’s neck, dropping the twin barrel rifle and collapsing to the ground as blood sputter from he’s mouth.

Rowan look down her armor, a large number of new scratches and small dents now adorn the worn metal plate and in places she can see small metal balls embedded. ‘They have different kinds of bullets I guess’ the paladin thinks for a moment ‘I guess some are to weak for metal armor’ as she approach the dying American, all the while checking herself for any injuries. ‘Makes sense, there’s different kinds of arrows’. By the time she is halfway to the man- he had already stop struggling, blood pooling out of hem and onto the gray carpet.

THUD THUD.

Rowan raise her new weapon back up and to the door for the lobby where the sound was heard followed by the muffled sound of someone giving orders.

THUD

Spinning around the Paladin look at the door leading to the room at the front of the building. More yelling in English by a male voice followed by a yell by a woman in distress.

‘That must be the damsel!’ Rowan realize ‘but who would be trying to get to this floor via the stairs?’

Rowan rushes to the lobby, stepping over the first fallen foe as she walk into the room, stepping in the pool of blood further ruining the carpeting as she notice that the walls contain several works of art depicting various structures of these Americans, some completed, others under construction. the door heading to the stairwell bangs again, causing the pile of tables, chairs, and a odd metal dresser to shift a bit. More orders are heard mixed in with cursing. ‘What dose ‘Fuck’ even means?…. Maybe I should try to communicate with them?’

She then look at the blocked off door to the room the second gunman came form and noticed that the hardwood book case had put a nasty hole in the door when the corner of it slammed first. ‘Looks like the same kind of door as the one up front, I wonder if I can just crash myself through one of those doors.’

Taking a moment to put her new weapon in a side pouch, Rowan go up to the blocked stairs door and began to remove move the barricade.

‘’+Hello+’’ the paladin call out, getting a response in more English. ‘’+Little English+’’ she added, trying to preempt the American expecting her to understand their language.

As she grab the heavy metal dresser she can hear another voice say her name- ‘’+I Rowan+’’ she replay before she opens the door. She is instantly greeted by a half dozen blue uniforms guards. The one in front is a tall, strong looking grown man in a pair of shiny, mirror like glasses and with a strong chin. He’s face seems completely serious as he inspect the armored warrior, the strange glass hiding he’s eyes. Next to hem is the guard from the ground, he points at Rowan while talking to the… if Rowan is being honest, attractive man, in a manner that she think is positive for the warrior woman. The blue clad men all have a variant of an American pistol, one that seems to have a cylinder mechanism of some sort behind the barrel , others have pistols say for one guard who has a twin barrel gun.

‘’+I Rowan, I help umm…+’’ the palidan pauses trying to think of the name of the woman she is saving ‘’+Lucy, Burns’…. Ummm+’’

‘’+Wife+’’ the tall guard finishes before pointing to himself ‘’+Officer Bradly+’’ before he look at the dead body slumped against the far wall-

As the other ‘officers’ enter the room the the first one go up to the dead gunman- the mirror clad man simply point at the body, then at Rowan with a questioning look.

‘’+He… no help+’’ Rowan replayed pointing at the hole in her armor ‘’+man+ shot me with a +gun+, I hit hem with a javilin’’ pointing at her quiver of javilins while speaking in a mix of Common and English ‘’Next +man shot I+ with +gun+’’ gesturing to the smaller dents in her armor ‘’+I shot man+’’ tapping at the pouch where her new weapon is held. ‘I probably should find a holder for the gun’ Rowan though for a moment

Rowan sighs and lean against a wall. ‘Better do what he says… I’m a stranger in a strange land’ and occupied herself by looking at the paintings of unfinished structures and finished but strange buildings, the one next to the blue guard being a strange, boxy structure dwarfed by two massive chimneys, One of the Americans carriages have been drawn in to provide an idea of scale. ‘The dwarfs are going to be both mad and drooling if they get a poke at these buildings’ She mused as she let what seems more like the American equivalent to the city guards deal with the situation as yelling, shouts, and door banging can be heard.

‘’Lesser weapons, lesser armor given they don’t even have those steel conical like helmets… responded to a crime’’ going over the evidence before Rowan think for a moment ‘I don’t know their laws, not the specifics at least…’ before chastising herself before calming down ‘they are not acting like I broke a law, or one serious enough to warrant immediate attention. And vertically all towns have a law about defending others so long as you don’t hurt any nobility…’ recalling what she learned in the temple. ‘’do you guys even have nobility?’’ Rowan asks absentmindedly to the officer.

Wait in the room near the room 1-3 door to ambush whoever's holding the Tommy gun.

OOC trivia: the Thompson submachine gun uses the same ammunition as the Colt M1911, the famous .45 ACP. Also, pinstripe suits with shotguns and Tommy guns? They're the typical Mafia aren't they?

Hearing footsteps between gunfire directed away from her position, Rowan rapidly swing around the doorway to see another thin-striped man welding a American rifle, this ‘Tommygun’, to the warrior it looked like a Grand say for three differences; It’s shorter than the Grand, much less of it is wooden or covered in wood, and a large round metal container.

While the armor warrior look down the sights of the 1911 the gunman pull he’s own trigger at the officers, who hide themselves behind overturned desks, scattering the tools of the scribe’s trade all over the room.

Hitting the gunman in the arm holding the Tommygun, the recoil of the weapon cause it to go wild. A round hit one of the strange metal decorations in the ceiling.

A rust brown, fowl smelling rain began to cover the scribe office and all within from the busted implement, a bell began to ring somewhere, in confusion the thin stripped man turned to the warrior-

BANG

The officers began to open fire once more on the gunman, standing up from their positions.

Blood mixes with the fowl water as several shots rings out. Two missing their marks- going through a now ruined painting and the plaster walls, the last finding its mark, splattering the wall with blood and bits of brain.

The man slumped to the ground as the rain began to putter out, Rowan can hear her hart pounding as she finally begins to calm from her battlestate. Without missing a beat the blue clad guards get out of their positions and go to their fallen comrades and checking the last rooms.

Rowan look at the last corpse to litter the scribes offices. The portly, thin striped suit wearing man have a small duffle bag on he’s shoulder- something the warrior missed in the battle. From a slightly open, clasp of some kind, more of those American ‘dollars’ can be seen. Rowan don’t know how she would describe the clasp to another- like teeth that are opened and closed by a strange key-like implement. The man is still clasping the ‘’Tommygun’’, on the ground around hem is some brass casings… the same caliber of casing as the bullets the 1911 takes the strange…. Presence… inform the woman from within- perhaps from the same 1911 gripped in her hand. The room reeks, between the smell of the foul water, the blood, the results of a corps emptying their bowels, and the alchemical smells the guns make when they shoot. The walls are all covered in bullet holes from the entire ordeal as well as the scribe desks, the once orderly room rendered chaotic by the drum of battle.

Behind one of the desks she can see the mirror glasses officer providing medical aid to another officer, a older man by the looks of he’s gray hair and mustache. In the far corner an officer had just finished checking on another that have stopped breathing. To the front two officers are peering into the front room, guns ready for any more surprises.

Rowan look down at herself- her armor is filthy, covered in blood and the foul water. She is going to need to find a smith to fix the holes and pock-marks. Her magic is spent, she is going to need to find a new tunic, her interior padding is probably going to need to be at least cleaned.

As the Paladin began to make a mental list of chores this endeavor had landed her- she;

Putting away her pistol, Rowan rushes over to Officer Bradly who is trying to stop the bleeding of the older ‘officer’, the old man seem to have captured two of the bullets with he’s chest. Rowan does not know much about medicine past the standard ‘wrap wound, set bones, drink potions’ every trained Paladin of her temple learned. She lack the magic and potions to save hem if these were spear wounds, as is one looks like it could have punctured the lungs.

Rapidly Rowan takes off her helmet and open her bag, tossing the blue clad man some bandages and using some herself to staunch the bleeding. Like everyone else in the room the two are drench in the foul water. Bradly seem to have lost one of he’s mirror lenses, showing a worried greenish blue eye. The look of a man desperately trying to save another- yet one not alien to loss.

Vaguely while at work, the warrior noticed that some officers go into the front room. Calm talking can be heard to a female voice sounding grateful.

The older man begins to speak weakly to Bradly. A heartfelt words of a dying man, tho Rowan can not make out the words- she knew the reply, ‘’you’re not going to die’’.

‘’he sacrificed for the good of innocent and to strike at the wicked’’ Rowan says- in equal sincerity and in repeating of one of the death rights of her church. ‘’I pray that he’s passage is swift and true.’’ She say in a soothing tone. Briefly looking up she see a slight glow from the officer’s hands-

‘’Another one?’’ Rowan says looking at the common spectacle.in-front of her both wounds heal, debris and a bullet is pushed out of the closing wound. To the warrior it’s seeing a blessing at work. A gift of the gods to heal by just laying one hands on another. Rowan has done it whenever she can to help the poor and unfortunat. A warm smile go across her face as a life is saved.

But for Officer Bradly, shock and fear filled he’s face as he jumps back- tripping backwards on a broken chair and landing on the body of the twin-tube gunman, the sight of magic causing hem to be speechless.

The old man take a sharp deep breath before he turns over to clear he’s lungs of blood and other fluids in one bout of vomiting. He check on he’s now missing wounds, only light scaring being indicative of the injury. Painfully the old man force himself to sit up, clearly disoriented and confused.

Rowan look around for a moment and noticed that everyone is looking at the three- including in the doorway leading to the front room, a frazzled yet beautiful woman who must be Lucy, held gently between two of the guards and with a blanket around her shoulder, her beauty tarnished by a black eye. She is in what must once been an expensive, well put together outfit consisting of a black knee length skirt and a white blouse that seemed to just been manhandled and stained. ‘Murderers, thieves, abusers, but not rapists…so far’ Rowan makes a mental note on these ‘thin stripe men’ in a uniform style of dress. The other officers seem equally as stunned as Bradly, she hears at least one of the invoke the name of ‘the son’. While Lucy seem to be thanking the father of the same Jesus with a prayer.

The man try to stand up but stumble-

‘’Easy- easy’’ Rowan says as she catches the old guard and helps hem to he’s own feet. ‘’You’re saved- not healed completely.’’ She say, forgetting the language barrier for a moment. The man responds but Rowan can’t figure out what he is saying, but somewhere in it was ‘’+thank you+’’.

As Rowan grab her things, one of the officers start to check on the old man, doing what Rowan recognized as some checks for head injuries. Follow the finger, hold up fingers to count, what is probably some questions like ‘what year is it?’ And ‘who’s your king?’.

Rowan, taking her original mission as the priority, turn to the young woman being led through the messy, wet room, trying to keep her from seeing the dead bodies. ‘’Miss Lucy’’ the warrior says causing the frazzled woman to look at her. ‘’+I Rowan, I helped Burns+’’ she says ‘’+Burns okay+’’

The woman eyes go wide ‘’+Burns?+’’

‘’+yes+’’ one of the officers say- the same that was there for Rowan catching the falling American, after a short exchange of words the American woman hug the Paladin.

‘’+Thank You Thank You Thank You+’’ the woman half cried- every thing else garbled between tears and the foreign language. Rowan simply pat the woman on the back with a smile. The woman seem to be physically ok other than the black eye- but Rowan knows that she’ll probably need some spiritual help after today. ‘A injured soul is as damaging as an injured body’ the Paladin says to herself before braking off the hug.

‘’Be well ma’am’’ Rowan says in Common before she go find Officer Bradly- she find hem in the lobby looking at he’s hands, the shock still with hem after laying them and saving another. After a moment Rowan began to unclasp her chest plate ‘’+Officer Bradly?+’’ she says- getting the man’s attention even as Lucy is led to one of the lifts. The man look at her quizzically, wondering what this strange woman is doing.

Finishing taking off the chest armor, leaving behind a tunic with a fresh bloody stain from a wound already healed. she point at her fresh wound where a similar scar to the old man’s is. ‘’I am a Paladin’’ she says, pointing at her own hand and then at the wound. ‘’Lay On Hands’’ before she then point at the dawn on her chest plate. ‘’I am Paladin of Lethander’’ she then point at the man one more ‘’you are a Paladin of….’’

Rowan look at the uniform of the man, looking for anything that seem to indicate something of he’s oath, of he’s god or purpose- before she settled on pointing at a shiny emblem attached to the button down blue shirt ‘’+This+, You Lay on Hands the +Officer+’’

The man seem to- not quite understood… he ask something- about ‘’+The Flash?+’’, Rowan dose not know what ‘+The Flash+’ means but she recognizes the term referring to the event that brought these Americans to her world, from a world without magic. He say something again about +The Flash+ and point at himself- Rowan think he asked The Flash made Me a Paladin?

Rowan can only give a shrug. ‘’My +god+ gave me this power, this +magic+’’ tapping on her hand to try to say Lay on Hands.

‘’+Magic+’’ the man sighs and then say a few more things before he take a deep breath. ‘’+Rowan- Thank you+’’ even tho he has an unhappy face before he say something that takes little translating. Don’t Do It Again before he point at her to join Lucy in the lift

Rowan give the Paladin a smile. ‘’Sorry- my Oath would’t allow me to stand by’’

Rowan step into the device. On the way down the frazzled woman hand Rowan a small square of stiff paper, on it is what Rowan recognize as an address.

‘’+___ you need help, ___ ____+’’ she says before making a strange gesture where her thumb is next to her ear and the other by her mouth. ‘’+Thanks you+’’

Rowan stand infront of the tower as Burns is loaded into boxy American vehicle with a Red Cross on it, accompanied the damaged vehicle is a few identical ones, with markings Rowan reconize as similar to the markings on the blue uniformed men. Clasping her chest plate back and helmet on she lean against a wall. ‘’Wasn’t even a hour….’’ As she takes a drink from her flask of water. ‘’I don’t think I can survive another fight like that without rest’’ before she thinks for an moment ‘there will still be sunlight by the time I get to Red Wood even if I get there after the half bridge.’

Rowan make her way down the road to the half bridge. Closer to the docks the buildings slightly change in aratecture. More bricks and less metal and with more spaced out windows, Damage from the missed riot is more evidenced also as it seems like this area is more of a market district of some kind. The road is occasionally littered with glass or stains from fires.

Boarded up windows, burnt out store fronts, the occasional American vehicles reduced to charred husks or flipped over as well as graffiti here and there. Piles of rubble and garbage have been moved to clear the roads but one of the American vehicles… ‘trucks I believe they are called’ are being loaded with them tho it seems like it’s owner is only loading metals and other salvageable materials.

Crossing a street Rowan finally reaches the strange massive bridge. On a sidewalk next to it is a map on a stand- she recognizes Lincoln Island and If she is reading it right- Lincoln Island was connected to the rest of this ‘America’ by this bridge. ‘’A massive bridge- and a draw bridge at that. this must have been a wonder to construct’’.

The bridge seem to start a few yards away from the shoreline, allowing it to have a gentle rise above the water, it’s road way is pathed in the same black mortar like material the Americans use on all of their roads it seems. The framework seem to be a combination of the more stone-like mortar for support followed by red painted steel. Where the bridge ends and the ‘draw’ begins there seem to be a thicker stone-mortar support of some kind with some metal access scaffolding leading to it, walking down a path to the warth next to the bridge she sees that the means to access the scaffolding is blocked by a small structure. Rowan thinks she can see a door within the top portion of the support structure. Currently the draw part of the bridge is lifted and the road way is blocked off at a intersection by a series of flimsy barricades

The bridge seem to act as a physical barrier between the fishing docks and the cargo docks.

Near the bridge there’s a structure of note- it has a large metal shelter where several larger American vehicles are parked, tall and long boxy things with only two doors on one side of them, both tall egnoft to allow one to just walk aboard. The one most evident had a picture of a running dog- a greyhound if Rowan remembered her breeds right. In the center of the shelters is a large single story building where through a set of glass doors Rowan can see a number of Americans with baggages camping.

Along the fishing side of the docks are a series of store fronts, some are abandoned and burnt out but most simply have cracked windows. Looking into one of them Rowan can see that the store clerk is openly carrying an American gun in a hoster. Most store fronts seem to be recreational or utilitarian- stores that sold fancy looking cloths mix with stores that sold common items for the fishing boats, tool shops next to toy shops. In some people seem to be haggling with the clerks for items. Before Rowan move on she noticed that in the store she looked into, a tool shop, someone just paid for some nails using money and a fish. A sight not unusual for the woman other than the strange paper money.

Over by the cargo side it seems like one of the ships have finished being emptied, walking around the dock are some men in the same kind of thin striped suits, they are not openly armed but one seem to be carrying around a instrument case- a case that Rowan can imagine one of those Tommyguns fitting into if unloaded. The dock facilities are fenced off by a strange woven metal wire fence. The men are trying to be discreet but Rowan recognizes guards when she see some, and considering their fight with the blue guards yet ability to act in the open….

‘’Perhaps these Americans are not as ‘United’ as they claim to be’’ Rowan muse. Part of her wonder what that means for these ‘Stripes’.. ‘a rival house or equivalent… a powerful merchant? Perhaps the Americans have their own Thieves Guild….’

Further down Rowan notice a strange red archway- a ‘Tori’ if she recalled the name right from a book she read once about a far off land- that seem to lead to a small section of this city with a noticeable change in upkeep and less so of aratecture, but it would require walking pass the part of the port where the striped men are patrolling to get a better look.

Rowan hears some commotion and look back over at the fishery, first dismissed due to most of the boats being out of the docks. At the end of one of the fishing docks there’s a more familiar small boat, looks to be a cutter of a Shining Isle make. There’s a crowd over by it including a few blue clad guards and some of the green clad ones.

Rowan decide to investigate;

Rowan approach the fishing docks, as she gets closer she began to make out some of the commotion, walking on the wooden, floating docks.

‘’We. Need. To. Fix. Our. Ship.’’ Rowan hear a voice speak slowly and loudly as she get to the back of the crowd.

‘’+sorry+’’ the Paladin began as she try to get pass the huddle of people on the floating wooden platforms. Passing a green clad guard who seem to have a device to he’s ear ‘is that what putting a thumb in your ear mean?’ Rowan wondered as she see hem use a back mounted radio-looking device with a wire connected to an almost U shaped device, currently with one end at the ear and the other end at the mouth. It seems that the crowd of American fishers, scribes(?), children, and probably day laborers is more interested in the commotion than the out of placed looking woman.

Once getting to the front of the crowd Rowan see what caused the commotion- tied to a the dock is an expensive looking personal cutter with a small crew. Currently a richly dressed red headed halfling woman is trying to talk to an American man in a tan rain coat and flanked by blue guards. The purple clad noble is flanked by Imperial Guards clad in heavy plate armor and welding great swords- that are thankfully not being brandished. Standing behind the American side of the line Rowan can make out more of the conversation.

‘’Insolent Little, I don’t care what is going on- this is Imperial Territory! - ahh something that make sense’’ the noblewoman say noticing the adventurer. her expensive makeup making her look more like a fool or clown than someone of class or dignity. ‘Such makeup could probably feed plenty of the needy’ Rowan can’t help but frown at the sight of one of her ‘betters’, thanking her god for the helmet ‘’You there- Paladin of Lethander- could you help me get through the head of this local barbarian that boat fixed? I sware why don’t he civilize himself and learn common? This is the Shining Imperium for gods sake’’ the woman complained.

Rowan take a moment to look over the cutter once more- it seems like the main mass have a large crack running from top to bottom, only held together by ropes and other improvised repairs. She approach the American line and tap the shoulder of the coated American- he turn around, slightly startled to see a knight standing behind hem.
>>
>>6294304
‘’+Hi- I Rowan, I, um+’’ Rowan says in her broken English Before she makes a talking hand gesture and point at the noblewoman. The American point at her and the cutter and say something as a question ‘’+Umm- before ship, I before ship.+’’ before pointing her finger at the cutter and shaking her head. ‘’I’m from the Morning Flower from earlier today… umm…’’ she points at the sun, and move her finger to around how high it was when she got to Abraham.

‘’Hurry up- I don’t have all day’’ the noblewoman complained causing the American can pinch the bridge of he’s nose before he allow Rowan through the line.

‘’What seem to be the problem Lady-‘’ Rowan says as she approach the noblewoman, bowing her head as she do so.

‘’Lady Nighshade’’ the woman huffed ‘’these plebeians won’t even find a TRANSLATOR-’’ directing the last word at the coat clad American, crossing her arms, the American give her a look that could at minimum maim ‘’i am about ready to order my men to run hem through’’

‘’Dawn guide me’’ Rowan quietly mutters before she-

As tempting as it is to raise a middle finger at the Karen, that would be most unbecoming of us and risk a fight. No, their title holds no weight here, the Americans are unamused and rightfully unintimidated by this display and the ship technology of these people who appeared from nowhere dispenses with sails so they might not even be able to fix the thing properly.
If she's determined to reach the "find out" stage with the local police and GIs, we will not intervene for her. We can try and help mediate and arrange something if she ceases this bluster, but the local attitude will not be a warm one after this display.

Rowan sighs ‘’these people are not subjects of the Shining Imperium Lady Nightshade’’ Rowan says trying to keep decorum. ‘’Up till three days ago this island wasn’t here and they were subjects of a larger empire’’

Lady Nightshade taps her foot in thought ‘’the captain did mentioned that this island wasn’t on he’s maps… regardless, they are in Imperial waters.’’

‘’they… don’t see it that way. They call themselves Americans, from what both is us can tell- some unknown means had sent them and this segment of their empire to our world.’’ Rowan explains. ‘’In short- your title and lands hold no power to these people. I do not know what you done before I got here but I cannot imagine you getting a warm reception after the this… ‘misunderstanding’.’’

‘’Plebeians...’’ the woman scoffed. ‘’I guess having them follow the Decree of Aid is possible’’

Rowan grimace at the mentioned legislation…. It was a law of the shining isles where officials don’t have to pay for certain services in time of need and instead can have it be charged to the crown… ‘My temple still haven’t been paid back for the horses requisitioned a few years ago’ she thought. ‘’I would not advise it. In fact you might have difficulty finding someone who can properly repair your vessel… these Americans seem to have been abandoning sails, as is they seem to have abandoned draft animals in favor of alchemical burning devices’’ she says, looking at one of the handful of sailing crafts at the fishing docks.

‘’Gods’’ the nobelwoman say facepalming. ‘’Ok- and their magic?’’ She asks ‘’how magically backward are they?’’

‘’Well- these Americans lack magic.’’ Rowan says before correcting herself ‘’well- use to. From what I been told and what I seen of their reactions- these Americans thought magic was a myth up until three days ago, instead utilized devices to make up for the limitations. Tho you might have to demonstrate the magic for them to- believe it.’’

‘’And if I try to- force the Decree?’’

Rowan grimace. ‘’There’s a dwarf saying… =Fuck Around and find out=, more or less it means that you will receive consequences for your actions.’’ Before gesturing at some American green guards behind the blue guards. ‘’The blue ones are some kind of law men I believe, the green ones are some kind of professional soldiery, each of them are armed with a powerful range weapon.’’ Before pointing at a hole in her armor ‘’a criminal among them managed to do this with he’s variant, while another of he’s kind had a rapid fire one that was like a entire company of archers in one weapon.’’ Shaking her head. ‘If this brat ‘finds out’. I am letting her learn on her own’ Rowan thought to herself while she let the information sink in a little ‘’any act of violence will likely lead to a disproportionate response by these people. These are lost people who know well that they are not where they are supposed to be and with no known way home, a people use to being the only creatures who are suddenly finding themselves sharing a world with creatures that they only seen in myths and legends.’’ Before she crossed her arms ‘’But above all- they are not skittish. I imagine any attempts of serious intimidation will just result in you being jailed or killed’’

The powerful woman sighs. ‘’so a bunch of magically illiterate outsiders who do not know proper sailing.’’ Before she pinch the bridge of her own nose. ‘‘Alright- we just need a mass good enough to get us to Stronghold. How much of these people’s language do you know?’’

‘’I should be able to do that’’ Rowan says, putting her gauntleted hand at the ‘chin’ of her helmet ‘’do you have some pepper and may I have the wand to show and demonstrate it?’’

Back at the American line Rowan approach, drawing an image on the scrap paper with the ‘pencil’ she still has.

‘’+Sir….+ Lady Nightshade’’ Rowan says gesturing to the noble woman. ‘’+have… ummm- job+’’ she then turn around her paper, showing the request, then hold up the wand. ‘’This is a wand, a…. +magic gun*….’’ She says mixing common with English ‘’it has five charges…. +5 bullets+’’. She point at the picture of a broken mass and then a picture of a mended mass ‘’+job+’’ she then point at the ‘check mark’- the American symbol for ‘yes’ or ‘done’, then at the picture of a wand ‘’+pay+’’

The man look at the wand curiously then shake he’s head ‘’+____ no magic+’’ in clear disbelief.

Rowan thinks for a moment then draw another picture. one of a explosion on some water. ‘’+i shoot magic gun+’’ pointing at a empty part of the water

The chuckles and gestured at the spot ‘’+shoot ____+’’

Rowan take a deep breath ‘’strange people of a strange land’’ she mutter to herself before she turn to the ocean ocean. In the distance she can barely make out some sailing ships on the horizon, they seem to be approaching the island ‘great- this, was is a trade lane’ she thought then noticing some American ships, gray metal cutters without sails, moving rapidly through the water splashing up water in their wake. They seem to have departed form this ‘’Redwood’’ and on an intercept course to the sailing ships.

The radio American seem to speak once more to he’s device as Rowan flick her wrist, the incantation flowing through her lips as something known and unknown. A small ball of fire shoots out. In a moment a ball of fire erupts form the surface of the water- splashing droplets on the spectators and causing the American to rapidly speak to he’s radio. Repeating the American word for magic in he’s rapid yet clear conversation. The onlookers seem to be either amazed, fearful, or trying to calmly move away from the armed Paladin.

‘’+four bullets+’’ Rowan says before looking back at the coat clad American who look at the spot in the water dumbfounded. After a moment the radio American whispers something to he’s ear.

Rowan turn to the Nobel woman ‘’I think they will accept the job for the wand Lady Nightshade.+’’ handing her the wand

The noble actually smile ‘’splendid.’’ Before she accept her wand back. ‘’Now your payment’’ before tossing a coin at the woman.

Rowan look at it and see that it’s a gold coin. ‘’Thank you ma’am’’ she says before looking at the position of the sun ‘’I am going to have to get going. These Americans wish me to eventually get to their fort.’’

Lady Nightshade sighs ‘’Fine. What is you name Paladin?’’

‘’Rowan ma’am, Rowan Lightward’’

‘’If you’re ever in Stronghold, keep an eye out for me. I may have more work for you’’ The noble woman says as Rowan turn to leave. ‘’Have fun civilizing the natives’’ Lady Nightshade says with laughter, making Rowan ever more grateful of her helmet.

Heading down to the red archway, Rowan began to make out more details of this part of the American city.

The best description Rowan can give is that it’s a cultural enclave of some sort, she seen a fair few of them in the Shining Islands. The buildings largely look like American buildings, but the signs are prominently in a different language and some have embellishments that is reminiscent if not directly made form clay, curved roofing tiles not of a familiar style. The written language seem to be made up of intersecting lines, some straight, others curved, to make individual characters or symbols. All signs do have words written in English on them- presumably so that one dose not need to know the scrip to partake in the shops.

The buildings are built closer together and makeshift barricades are still erected protecting the wall-less ‘ghetto’. Rowan had seen Americans walking around armed- guns, strange uniformed clubs, even a few with scabbarded axes. But the proportion on openly armed people seems to be greater, with some Americans with yellow scrap cloth armbands. And the Americans- these must be a subset of American. Skin tones ranging from pail olive to tan or brown, softer complexions and narrower eyes that at first gave Rowan the impression of someone squinting. Some seem to possibly be of a mixture between the ‘white’ Americans and these new kinds of Americans. ‘It’s… strange to regard fellow humans like this’ Rowan thinks to herself- unsure how to feel about it.

‘A nation of immigrants- I wonder what part of their world these people came from’ Rowan wondered as she approach the Tori. One of the man standing next to it stops her with a hand and say something far to fast.

‘’+little English+’’ Rowan reply only to be met with a different language all together, if English sounded guttural and mismatched, this one sounds like it more carried a tune and higher pitched…. ‘’+ummmm- little English+’’ she repeated.

The young man look at the armored woman for a moment then make a motion for Rowan to remove her helmet. Rowan- seeing no reason not to- comply with the twin tube armed…. Militiaman? Rowan look at the yellow scrap cloth tied to he’s arm and see others protecting shops also adorn in the yellow color.

‘’+I Rowan Lightward, Wonderlander+’’ Rowan says ‘’+Human Wonderlander+’’

The other Militiaman, an older man who look like he could be related to the first and armed with a machete and a scabbarded pistol. Look at Rowan for a moment ‘’+Why here?+’’ He asks much slower, taking he’s time to clearly speak.

Rowan takes out a simple map she was drawing of the city. ‘’+walk+’’ she say- running her finger around the sheet of paper. ‘’+See America, See Lincoln, See Abraham+’’

The two men nod then shrug and say something- after Rowan give a confused look one of them points at the sun, then the horizon while talking before using he’s hands to make a walking motion leading away from the entrance to this ‘Ghetto’

‘Walk out at Sun down…. I guess some places here have a curfew for outsiders…’ Rowan thought before she give a nod. ‘’+Rowan leave ummm….+’’ she points at the sun the horizon. ‘’Sundown’’

The man smiles. ‘’+Sundown+’’ he says in English. ‘’+__ Good+’’.

Rowan move to put back on her helmet but is stopped by a hand on it.

‘’+no helmet . We ____ _ see face +’’ the young man taps the helmet and then gestures at he’s own face to indicate what he is talking about.

‘’+The Flash?+’’ Rowan asks, looking at the barricade made of large, smelly metal boxes and other junk. ‘’+err Riot+’’ trying to ask if this affair is normal- or due to what happened.

The older man simply nods, saying something and making a hand motion next to he’s head indicating crazy. ‘At least that stuff seems to be universal’ Rowan thinks about the number of common hand gestures.

Rowan smiles ‘’+thank you+’’ she says. She takes a few steps before turning back ‘’+umm- what American you?’’ Only getting an odd look back ‘’+I see white American, black American. No you American, umm… I….+ Know all are +human+’’ she asks. ‘’+all creatures- what say you American+’’

The young man pause to decipher the question before answering ‘’+I’m Chinese +’’ before smiling hemself ‘’+Welcome _ (small?) China , Rowan+’’

Rowan walk down the street, it seems that most of these Chinese Americans are beginning to wrap up the day while the armor- like anywhere else in this city- makes Rowan stand out. By one of the closed grostry stores a few American green guards can be seen- seemly there to help protect it along with the ‘yellow militia’, tho the two pairs of protectors are keeping their distance.

Rowan feels her stomach grumble as she look around. Most stores are closing up for the day but two gets the woman’s attention;

One seem to be a pawn shop. No matter the town or people one can recognize such a place by its mixture of available goods. Everything from tools and clothing to strange, esoteric American devices. A soft music can be heard from the building but no players can be seen. A quick glance inside and Rowan can see some tools, clothing, and even weapons she should be able to use- ‘perhaps i can even sell some items?’

The other is a tavern that seems half full of patrons. A more lively music can be heard and getting close Rowan failed to notice the normal smell of sawdust and vomit of such an establishment yet could smell the alcohol and food. Everyone seems to be having a good time in there.

Passing by one building with an advertisement of a human striking a martial pose, Rowan sees that the owner had just finished closing for the day, an older yet fit man in a white robe with a black belt. ‘A… monk?’ Rowan wonders momentarily. Before she has a chance to approach the man the ‘monk’ slip into a nearby door. ‘Stranger in a strange land’ Rowan can’t help but to remind herself.

Rowan enter the American Tavern. Half crowded and mostly consisting of these ‘Chinese’ Americans. Most seem to be the day laborers and other… esoteric… tradesmen of these people, many men with the yellow armbands, even a number of guards who must be off duty. ‘or sampling in duty’ the woman thinks ‘the more things change- the more they stay the same.’

The wall art is distinct. Some paintings of a far off land in the world of the Americans consisting of jagged mountains along a massive river or ancient wooden temples in a style even more alien to the Paladin than the Christian temples she seen so far, to imagines of American bards preforming music in suits or stranger outfits. The floor lack the sawdust and other- messes- common in taverns adventures frequented, and on the back wall is a strange flag- top blue, bottom red, with a white triangle with three gold stars and a strange golden sun symbol hanging next to a American flag. The flameless lights are encased in a kind of paper shade, illuminating people as they sit around tables. Looking for the band Rowan follow the sound of the strange music to a device behind the bar.

https://youtu.be/r2S1I_ien6A?si=OxWnujBwAjj4oKCP

A boxy… radio with a horn? On top of the box is a spinning black wheel thing with a metal arm pressing down on it. The music is up beet with drums and horns, as if an entire orchestra is playing from within the device. There’s times the holy warrior want to call slander on the Americans’ claim on not having ma-

‘’+Hey! _____ Joan of Arc , _____ ____ ____ drink!+’’

Snapping form the music, Rowan turns to the heckler…. A younger man who is already red from he’s choice of poison, adorn in a black leather jacket over a white shirt. Hair a deep black and cut short in an unkempt way, all with a wide and smiling grin of someone insulting another for fun. The announcement of the American made everyone look at the woman- bemusement and confusion mixing with alcohol and merriment. The yellow milita men and green guards look at her like men trying to gage a possible threat, some of the regular male patrons eye Rowan curiously ‘not the first time I seen someone debating on trying to look under the breast plate’.

Realizing she is blocking the entrance, Rowan step into the tavern. Quickly she walk up to the bar and find a seat. ‘What is with these people and bolting down furniture- are they worried that the wind will take them?’ The counter top is covered in a layer of glass protecting more of those black and white images or clippings from news rags. One that stand out to Rowan is an image of a fireball of absolute godly scale engulfing a city, taken from a high angle in the sky. ‘did someone piss off Jehova?’ Next to it is a picture of a man with a eyepatch smiling among a group of American green guards within a jungle.

Rowan look up at the sound of someone clearing their throat ‘’+O…. um- hello, I um… Rowan… I drink.’’ Rowan greet the bar keep. ‘’+ and eat. I have, um, more one dollar, please+’’

The tan middle age man with a eyepatch nods and hands the woman a menu. ‘’+Food+’’ he gestured at one side ‘’+____, drinks+’’ the other.

Looking up and down the bar Rowan see that she is flanked by a young couple too engrossed in each-other to gawk at the strange armored woman and a very attractive young woman drinking alone. ‘I wonder how willing are these American in practice’ the Paladin thinks for a moment as the woman look at her like a curiosity- tho of what kind, Rowan could not guess. ‘Olitic always had a good gay’scry - I can only simply shoot blind and hope to land true… maybe those little flags WAS a good idea.’

Rowan only can understand some of the words of the menu… but the prices are clear. And she knows that the C symbol means the coins that are worth less than the paper money.

Rowan point at what she want on the menu and pay for it. The Bar Keep take out a shot glass and grab a squareish bottle from under the counter. Rowan instantly notice that on it is an image of a Tieflings in an American suit playing a trumpet ‘no- not a Tiefling- an American Devil’ the Paladin corrected herself. ‘Why would they honor hem with a drink? Are there American… Satanists? Devilists?’

The liquid poured out is a brown liquid with a strong alcohol and… cinnamon smell? ‘Hu- who would mix cinnamon with alcohol?’ The woman thought for a moment before drinking the liquid.

The warrior coughs and clear her throat. ‘’Dawn- what is this?’’ She says between gasps ‘’Is this some of that…. What was that called… +Gas+?.

‘’+ Cinnamon Whisky + the man says with mirth before he says something about the food and set down a pitcher of water.

Taking a moment Rowan turn to the single woman ‘’+Hello, I Rowan+’’ the palidan says with a smile.

The woman smile back ‘’+Roxann+’’ holding up her glass in a gesture the paladin give back, causing the woman to chuckle. ‘’+you_ a Wonderlander?+’’ She ask

Rowan nods ‘’+Wonderlander Human+, errr a…. + Faith soldier +’’ she says not knowing the English word for Paladin but knowing that this ‘Soldier’ refers to a kind of warrior.

The woman chuckles. ‘’+ah- a crusader +’’ she jests with an odd term before she try to explain what she is. Rowan can understand that she is some kind of American and after grabbing a strange soft pice of paper drawn what seem like her at a school. She’s a student?

Before Rowan could try to ask the same leather clad man from earlier slide between the two woman, facing the beautiful Roxann. Clearly trying to flirt with her. ‘Every tavern has one’ cross Rowan mind as she can guess that the man is trying to hit up the woman, probably talking about ‘how about you see a real adventurer’ or something.

Rowan look around the bar and notice someone getting a mug of beer. ‘’Barkeep’’ she asks the man then gestured at the mug and try to request one for herself. Costing herself 15 American coins. ‘This bank-note thing is going to be annoying once we go to the rest of the isles’ as she tastes the American beer ‘not bad… better than that + whisky +’

A bowl of noodles is set down in-front of Rowan. A strong spice can be smell from the steam that rise from the off white noodle in brown broth. Rowan is about to take out her mess-kit’s utensils when the barkeep provides her some silver, or in this case, steel ware to use. ‘’+Thank You+’’ she says to the man and dig into the food.

And instantly chug down the rest of her beer. ‘’By the Dawn that was hot!’’ Rowan exclaims to the mirth of the barkeeper and some chuckles around the tavern. One such chuckle grow louder until one of the Yellow Militiamen sits next to Rowan, a young ‘Chinese’ man who seen to be sober still. The man gives Rowan an incomprehensible greeting that is returned with a smile and a lifted cup as she go for another bite of the food.

The two try to get a conversation going- with the man flirting with Rowan until he eventually point at a hole in her armor.

‘’Oh- +1911+’’ Rowan says as she pull out the gun by the barrel. ‘’+ I got shot, I stabbed them, I got gun+’’ the warrior says casually. Getting new weapons that way is not abnormal for adventurers.

‘’+_____ who?+’’ the man asks.

Rowan quickly grab one of the strange sheets of paper at the bar and draw an image of one of the thin stripe man- manly one armed with the ‘Tommygun’. ‘’+They attacked- ummm- not I…+’’ she try to explain the story of the strange American tower using miming, drawings, and a few broken English words between bites of the spicy yet delicious noodles.

The man, ‘Lee’, gave some kind of saying involving calling something ‘holy’ in response then call over he’s fellow Militiamen. After a moment the 3 of them laughed and look somewhat amazed- she thinks one of them seen her fire the wand earlier?-

One of them start pointing at a target hanging on a wall- ‘’ahh darts’’ Rowan says. ‘’I am fairly experienced’’ she continued jingling her quiver of javelins.

One of the Militiaman, already drunk and already happy, look at the quiver of ‘large dart’, look at the dart board, and then return back at Rowan with a smile that can only be found on a drunker with a idea far to entertaining to be found in a sober mind.

As the three approach the bar they begin to hear singing and laughing. Through a window they can see the anachronistic woman singing among a group of bar goers next to what looks like a large spear piercing a dart board.

‘’So- think Wonder Woman there threw that or someone else did?’’ The airman asks rhetorically

‘’They sure grow them big in this ‘Shining Isles’’ the Marine jests. ‘’I maintain my dibs’’

The Navyman simply facepalm ‘’Lord give me patience’’ as he try to ignore the strange feeling that just went through hem at such a rhetorical prayer.

‘’YEAAAH’’ Rowan sings among the other bar goers, mimicking the words of the strange wheeled radio. Enjoying the beer that was purchased for her after landing a critical hit on the dart board.

‘I’m pretty sure I’m not getting that javelin back’ Rowan thought after being yelled at by the bar keeper, her new milita friends smoothed over the fiasco and kept her from being ejected all together. ‘everyone really enjoyed the display of dexterity anyways’ she now thought.

‘’+scuse me+’’

‘’+The bathroom is ____ _____+’’ as he points in the direction of the strange privies.

‘’fantastic, they got hot water on demand’’ the wood elf says, changed out of her normal cloths in exchange for green cloth trousers and a ‘tank-top’ given by the Americans. ‘’Absolutely magical’’

‘’+Hello, I Am Larry Simmons+’’ the man says, gesturing to himself. ‘’+what is your name?+’’

‘’+Hello, I Am….’’ The others introduce themselves in English.

There’s a knock at the door before it’s opens

‘’Gods- what happened to you?’’ Dhav asks as Rowan stumbles into the room, her armor filthy and covered in tiny dents with a child goblin fist size hole in the chest far too close to the heart for the wizard’s liking. ‘’What made that hole?’’

‘’oh a 1911’’ Rowan says matter the factly as she slump into a chair. Tho drunk she expertly and methodically take out her armor cleaning kit and begin to clean off her adventure form her suit as she takes it off piece by piece.

‘’What is a…. 19 11’’ Dula asks, saying the name as two sets of numbers.

‘’A kind a gun’’ she says scrubbing ‘’a lower power kind, takes .45 ammunition, automatic-‘’ the woman recite in a tipsy stupor as she work on her helmet.

Rowan simply pay attention to the lesson. It’s largely learning a handful of phrases and being given some cheat parchments on the various symbols the Americans use. ‘’So those blue clad men were lawmen?’’ Rowan says to herself as she moved onto her chest plate.

‘’so- what did happen?’’ Her half orc friend asks between phrases.

‘’I’ll regal the heroism later around the fire later’’ Rowan reply, only slightly slurring her speech. ‘’It’s a tale of saving damsels, dealing with blue bloods, and of drink and fun. How about you?’’

‘’We managed to negotiate with the Americans for a task that already been completed and they seem receptive to give us more work. Your’ll cut is in a locked chest they are allowing us to borrow’’ Dhav answers ‘’also there’s a big meeting for them tomorrow that they want us apart of. Other than that- not much’’

‘’I think they want to the locals gawk at us’’ Red added. ‘’maybe display magic and get some good photographs of us’’

‘’Photographs?’’ The Paladin asks

Red grabs what looks like a particularly large news-rag and hand it to Rowan. On it is one of those black and white paintings, this one is of a massive metal bridge held up by simply two bridge towers and a series of thick cables. A city that out the size of Abraham to shame can be seen along the coast of the bay the bridge spans while one of those massive ships can be seen floating under it.

‘’They use a device to make that image, probably another to copy over the image like it’s a wood-cut’’ Red continued.

‘’A thief and an artificer?’’ Rowan jests as she look over the paper rag. ‘’You ma’am is a vestal warrior, if only I can get you into the cloth of the dawn’’

‘’no offense Rowan, I don’t look good in sack-cloth.’’ The thief deadpanned before smiling. ‘’But you make it work’’

Rowan continued to listen to the lesson but something tug on her mind… a question. There’s so much she doesn’t understand about these strange Americans, but maybe it’s the booze, maybe it’s the high she is still riding from saving lives and killing evildoers- but there is something she need to know.

‘’+Scuse me- do you have….+’’ Rowan try to find a term that’ll explain ‘’+fires+’’

‘’+fires?+’’ the man asks. ‘’+um- we do.+’’ as he give the warrior a unsure look.

‘’+and you- umm, say things around fires?+’’ she asks.

The man takes a moment to think before he answers. ‘’+Ohhh- Camp Fire Stories+’’ he says before he draws a picture of a bunch of scouts around a campfire. The biggest one with a string instrument that kinda look like a lute. ‘’+we ____ them ___ the time+’’

Rowan smiles at that ‘glad that these people are not SO incomprehensible’ ‘’+thank you+, such things are important to us adventures’’

POV shift; Dhav

The following morning, outside of the warehouse.

Dhav look at the large boxy vehicle in front of her.

‘’Oh- it’s one of those greyhounds’’ Rowan says as she walked up, dressed in her brown trousers and with a ‘new’ shirt provided by these Americans, a simple green cloth thing of pronominal stitching. ‘’They got a bunch of them in Abraham.’’

‘’Ok- we want to go’’ Larry says to the group in he’s patchwork common. ‘’first, cloths. Then +city hall+’’

‘’aren’t +hallways+ the American word for hallways?’’ Dula asks to no one in particular.

‘’It’s a compound word’’ Rowan answered ‘’English seems to have a lot of them. ‘City- Hall is probably the equivalent of a City Palace’’ as she and the others began to board the strange vessel.

In the front of the bus Dhav notice that the Admiral is right behind the driver. ‘’Morning General’’ the Wizard says to which the man simply nod. Next to the Admiral is a scrawny American navy man who seems to be helping to organize the papers. The one who is driving is an American woman, one of the few she has seen on this ‘fortress’. In the back of the craft is two of the American green clad soldiers, tho armed they seem to be in the casual ‘guarding’ disposition.

‘’+good morning Dhav+’’ the man reply then say something about her robe… something about not to use them until later?.

‘Was that a request or a order’

Rowan ended up sitting next to Dhav a seat behind the American Admiral. The Admiral for he’s part is going over some paperwork.

Dhav sit in a chair behind the Admiral, Rowan is next to the window ‘looking’ at a bunch of American soldiers running past in some strange ritual, chanting what must be some invocation.

‘’What fun are they having with their guns?’’ Rowan asks no one in particular as a group of them chanting run by. Dhav does not understand the whole chant- just something about having rifles and guns.

‘’I thought rifle and gun are the same thing’’ Elidi added from a seat behind.

‘’the American word of gun is like if we would say…’’ Rowan pause to think for a moment ‘’range weapon, meanwhile a rifle is a specific class of guns, like crossbow or long bow.’’ She explains. ‘’And don’t ask me how I know that. I am starting to think my gun is enchanted somehow.’’

‘’Where did you get a gun?’’ Dhav asks.

‘’dungeon-find’’ the Paladin reply. Saying the common slang used to describe something that was (to their knowledge) legally acquired during a quest. ‘’I got into a fight with a bunch of thin stripe suit criminals and won.’’ She says with a smile ‘’I’m thinking of naming her.’’

‘’I could cast identify on your gun’’ Elidi offered.

‘’Is’t that a first level spell?’’ Dhav asks ‘’and it’s early in the day, not to mention a very flashy spell.’’

‘’Yeah, but it’s my only first level spell’’ Elidi states. ‘’And I have the power to do first levels twice a day’’

‘’I don’t see why not’’ the out of armor paladin says as she grab her pack and begins to fish out the gun. The activity and conversation seem to have caused the Admral to look back periodically.

‘It is early in the day’ Dhav thinks ‘but during fighting sometimes an offensive cantrip can be charged to a level one attack…’

They haven't seen any of us use proper showy magic before and might panic. Is right here and now really the best time and place to be casting spells?

Suggestions for names for Rowan’s 1911?
>>
1/2

‘’Um- girls’’ Dhav interrupts. The two ‘’you’re sure This is a good idea’’ as she gestures around the vessel. ‘’other than my mage hand, we haven’t use much in the way of flashy and showy magic, to do one without warning, let alone in a long boxy ‘car’, is right here, right now the best time?’’

The two women pause for a moment to consider the wisdom of their compatriot. Elidi is the first to shrug dismissively.

‘’It’ll be fine’’ Elidi dismiss the concern ‘’these are soldiers who seen some of our magic. A little glow and a little hovering- they’ll at most ask about it.’’ To the nods of Rowan.

Rowan pulls out the American gun. The ‘1911’ If Dhav remembers what Rowan called it. In quick succession Rowan fiddle with the device, causing the strange rectangle piece to fall into her bag and pulling back the top. A bullet flings out of the device with a sound of metal on metal

‘’Wopse’’

‘’I got it’’ Dhav says as she catches the bullet with a bit of mage hand.

‘’Why are you doing that?’’ Elidi asks.

‘’For safety’’ Rowan says ‘’if your going to fiddle with one of these, do it while it’s unloaded’’

Dhav look ahead and see the Admiral’s aid looking at the group of adventurers. Dhav give hem a smile. ‘’+it safe+’’ she say to try to reassure the man- who began to talk to the Admiral- who snap he’s head back after some mention of a gun. All just in time for Elidi to begin her spell.

The ‘1911’ began to glow and levitate in the hands of the wood elf, the various pieces of the device began to wiggle within their intended limits as it began to lazily do summersaults. No longer bound by the ill understood forces that keep all to the ground, all the while making a soft metallic clicking sound.

‘’3….4…5-‘’ Rowan says as the metal contraption wiggle. ‘’That would have been 6 firings if I haven’t unloaded the weapon. luckily it’s just dry firing’’

‘’Noted’’ Dhav says ‘’don’t magic a loaded gun’’

‘’that’s not the only strange thing about this’’ Elidi says ‘’the enchantment is very fresh- I would say no later than when we saw the flash over by PineWood.-‘’

‘’+what are you doing+’’

Click

Dhav look at the Admral, who is currently watching the small light show.

‘’+A 1911+’’ Rowan deadpans, getting a ‘don’t be a smartass’ look from the admiral. ‘’+magic, we want to see magic in 1911.+’’ she answers seriously

‘’Um girls’’ Olitic can be heard warning. ‘’behind us’’

Dhav look behind her and see the two guards approaching, one in front with he’s weapon down but ready at a moments notice, the other with a strange yellow box that is making a strange distorted sound, almost like a dripping water sound made by a clock.

Tick tick tick

‘’Rowan- can you tell the Americans to relax please’’ Elidi says as her hands continue to glow. ‘’and to watch where they point their wa-‘’

Tick tick click tick

‘’+where did you get that gun?+’’ the Admiral asks, interrupting the elf. Standing up and with a hand on he’s scabbarded gun. In response the rest of the party other than Rowan stiffen, grabbing their scabbarded weapons, ready for this situation to go full underdark.

Tick tick tick

‘’+From Abraham+’’ Rowan answered ‘’+from men with thin striped er- cloths, suits?+’’ she says- unsure of the English term of the kind of outfit.

Tick tick tick click

‘’+thin st-+’’ before the admiral face sour even more ‘’+you _____ a gun from the Mob?+’’ he asks incredulously.

Rowan shakes her head ‘’+Mob stole a woman, throw a man through window, I go in, attack mob, help police, unsteal woman. Got gun from it+’’ Rowan replied as the soldier with the yellow box move he’s wand around the glowing weapon. ‘’+gun was…. Good found. Not stole.+’

‘’+that sounds like- ______+’’ the Admiral began then dismissed.

Tick click tick tick.

‘’+clear-+’’ the yellow box armed soldier says before he go into a incompressible sentence, all the while the elf glare at hem out of annoyance. The other soldier relaxes even as the 1911 continues to ‘dry fire’ within the magic.

The admiral sighs ‘’+Magic done?+’’ he asks

After a moment the glow dimmed and Elidi catch the 1911.

‘’+magic done+’’ Rowan says

The admiral sighs. ‘’+no magic until I say _____. No weapons until after the meeting.+’’ he says. One of the soldiers rush to the back of the vessel and return with a sack. ‘’+and no more ‘finding’ weapons+’’ he added, using he’s fingers to make air quotes.

‘’Seriously’’ Red can be heard complaining among the others as they began to disarm themselves.

Dhav look at her ring of lightning for a moment, she;

‘’+your weapon+’’ the American soldier ask with the bag open.

‘’+I have no weapon. I Have magic+’’ Rowan says as she absentmindedly fiddle with her ring. By the time she notice she began to curse her bad habit when lying.

The soldier raises an eyebrow ‘’+Magic Weapons?+’’ he asks ‘’+we know ____ _____+ er wounds.’’ He says- fumbling the Common term for the item, then potently look at the ring. ‘’+I ____ that is magic weapon+’’ as he point at it.

Dhav sighs and takes off the ring and put it in the bag. On a casual glance inside of it she can see that Red had neglected to put in one of the knives she always keeps on her. ‘That’s good’ the Wizard thinks.

The Admral says something about the weapons. ‘’+say again?+’’ Rowan asks as she hand her javelins over.

‘’you will have you weapons back after the +meeting+’’ Mr Simmons translates ‘’He is worried about panic and mistakes. It a bad time’’

Dhav can’t help but to give Rowan a ‘told you so’ look before the Paladin sighs and look to the elf.

‘’So- Elidi- what was the enchantment?’’ Rowan asks the elf.

The elf mage sighs ‘’Its an unfamiliar enchantment. It’s affects the brain in a manner similar to Comprehend Language but more….permanently.’’ She began to explain ‘’typically such enchantments are negative but here- it just makes it so that you know how to utilize and maintain the weapon.’’

‘’That’s- a strange enchantment’’ Rowan says ‘’but it lines up with what I experienced.’’

‘’anything else Elidi?’’ Dhav asks

‘’It’s a very fresh enchantment. As in it was applied within 2 hours of the flash we saw by Pinewood.’’ Elidi continued ‘’and it has the characteristics of being enchanted by a lesser god, maybe even a Warlock’s god. But I can’t find anything pointing to which god it was.’’

‘’There’s a lot of Jehovah believers on this island’’ Olitic states ‘’could it be an enchantment made by hem?’’

Rowan shakes her head ‘’the gods are mysterious but, a few hundred believers is enough to render a god greater than a cult’s god.’’ She explains ‘’but other than that- anything of consern?’’

‘’None i could find’’ Elidi says with a shrug ‘’it’s just strange that a magically ignorant people have a magically enchanted weapon to begin with.’’

‘’speaking of those Americans- Who are the white robes?’’ Red asks, sitting on the other side of the vehicle as it come to a stop at an intersection with a strange device with a red color light.

Out of a mixture of boredom and genuine curiosity, the party shifts to the right side of the vessel. The greyhound barely shifts as they all look at what Red is pointing at.

‘’Maybe it’s a Cleric?’’ Rowan asks herself. ‘’Can’t say I seen that kind of American so far’’ as Dhav try to get around Dula for a look.

‘’He’s handing something out’’ Red observed before she fiddle with a mechanism on the window- opening it by having the top half slide down.

‘’How the hells you keep just figuring out how the American stuff works.’’ Olitic asks half joking.

‘’It’s a gift of the trade’’ Red answers ‘’+scuse me+’’ she call out- trying to get the attention of someone on the sidewalk.

While Red try to get someone’s attention Dhav get a glance at the person. It seems to be a man in a strange white pointed robe and hood standing on a corner. He seems to be giving out sheets of paper to people who pass by. Tho he’s expression is masked by the pointed hood, the other Americans notice the party gawking at them, looking most shocked by the faces of Red and Olitic than the ‘more human’ or outright human party members. One of the more bold Americans approach the window where Red is leaning out of.

‘’I think those are news rags of some kind.’’ Dhav says as she try to read the wooden board on hem. ‘’+Mr Simmons? What does that say+?’’

The man sighs ‘’No good that sounds good. propaganda, words to change people to agree’’ he says after a few tries to explain before he actually reads it ‘’Keep America Human’’

One of the soldiers snorts in disagreement, of what- Dhav can only guess.

‘’+thank you+’’ Red says as she closes the window and hold up one of the rags and hand it to Rowan. ‘’think you can read it?’’ As the device’s red light turns off and the green light glows, prompting the greyhound to move once more.

‘’It’s talking about The Flash, something about our kind- tho they use the term Ozzling’’ Rowan says as she read over the sheet of paper before showing it to Dhav. ‘’Other than that- i would need to sit down with a dictionary’’

On the front is a paragraph of English, but Dhav can’t make sense of most of it. On the bottom of the page is what look like a wood-cut stamped image of one of the strangely dressed men riding a horse in a matching garb with crosses set into the corners of the page. Dhav turn the page to its back and see more writing and some numbers.

‘’That’s a phone number’’ Rowan says ‘’a kind of radio Americans have, umm… there’s one’’ she says as she points to a strange glass box on the sidewalks. ‘’I think there’s runes you press on it to ask it to talk to someone, below it is a currier address.’’

Red look at the address ‘’+Thomas Landing+’’ pronouncing the American word- unaware of its meaning other than its a name ‘’that’s one of the costal towns that was on the map for Abraham’’

‘’Maybe they are a militia?’’ Rowan guesses. ‘’there’s the yellow-cloth milita, and the thin stripes. Maybe the White Robes, these…’’ Rowan says as she try to pronounce what seems like a name. ‘’….something something +Clan+ is another such milita. Maybe a particularly religious one with the number of crosses on the rag.’’ Before she mutters something about something being spelt with a ‘K’ instead of a ‘C’.

Before Dhav can ponder about it much. The greyhound stops once more, looking out the window the group sees that it stopped in-front of what looks like a clothing shop. Behind the windows are displayed racks of clothing in various American styles.

‘’We here’’ Mr Simmons says. ‘’We pay for one group of cloths but we need to say it good’’ as he gestures to what he is wearing. ‘’you can buy you own after’’

Without much fanfare the occupants leave the greyhound and enter the shop, the two soldiers staying outside by the doors of the establishment.

The inside of the store smell faintly like rose mixed with a multitude of kinds of cloth, from linen to cotton to silks. Several racks are present holding everything from shirts and dresses to pants and shoes, as well as a number of accessories. All organized having similar articles near each other. Behind a counter in the back is a middle age woman who is currently mending a garment while she listens to a radio playing some string music. Hearing the bell she look up and pauses- looking at the motley band of adventures curiously before she says ‘’+welcome+’’ the woman says, her brunet hair betraying her age by streaks of gray. ‘’+can I help you?+’’

The admiral approaches the counter to talk to the woman- after an exchange that includes hem giving her a cigarette after she looked disapproving at Rowan and Red for a moment.

‘’Alright- you can try cloths in there’’ Simmons says as he point at a changing room. ‘’Try shoes, try cloths, but use…. Lower cloths? Ummm…’’

‘’under wrappings?’’ Rowan says ‘’Cloths under cloths?’’

The man nods. ‘’And socks. To be clean’’

‘’So no going barbarian’’ Olitic says with a smirk before continuing in a lower tone for the party to hear ‘’by the gods, sometimes they treat us like children’’ she complained.

‘’They see us as savages’’ Dula says coldly ‘’friendly savages but savages all the same’’

Dhav look at the cloths on the racks- she notice that there’s an unusually high proportion of brand new clothing items mixed in with gently used ones and items who are identical to each-other other than size. Not to mention labor intensive articles of clothing priced surprisingly low if her grasps on what a dollar is worth is correct. Clothing that would be seen more with nobility would be affordable to even some day laborer equivalents who can find steady work.

‘’So- what sort of outfits look good to these people Rowan’’ Olitic asks the Paladin ‘’you quested around them all yesterday.’’

‘’Well… I’m not one for fancy clothes… but I can probably be consistent with what I seen so far.’’ Rowan look around for a moment and begin to put together some outfits for the party. ‘’Hey Dhav- think you can easily put on and take off your robe over some of these things?’’

‘’Probably’’ Dhav answers ‘’might as well look good to these people after my robe is no longer useful for the day.’’

after a few minutes Rowan put together some outfits that would fit the Wizard;

>> A tan long sleeve button down jacket with black skirt and a pair of white heels.

>> a blue sun dress with a matching belt and heels.

>> a suit like combination of skirt and jacket with a tan plaid pattern along with a pair of brown leather flat shoes and black undershirt.

>> a blue suit and pants akin to what the men typically wear and brown flat shoes.

>> Write in/post picture of the outfit.

Optional;

>> write in a question to try to ask the Americans.

I think picrel is a suitably trendy disguise. Imagine getting fireballed by someone who looks like that.
