Welcome Operator, to Task Force Vanguard

The Containment Box is fully online in a secure facility with two companies of Marines, a platoon of SF qualified personnel, and a nearby National Guard base on standby. Nothing gets into the underground facility and nothing gets out. The landing spots around the C Box are filled with trained killers, ready to pacify or slaughter anything that lands from other timelines or dimensions.

As long as the Box is running, humming along, our goverment is sale from an assassination team popping into existence in the Capitol. As long we do our jobs, spies and saboteurs can't sneak into our world.

However, you are members of an Expedition Team. Your job is to go to other timelines, figure out what is different or the same, locate the enemy, and obtain intel or hamper the enemy. As far as the DSCC Council is concerned, the United States is in a state of war with one or more governments in alternate timelines. These governments have their own Expedition Teams.

The situation is similar to the Cold War, with both sides sending in special forces and spies to undermine the influence of the other.

>The character creation process will happen shortly.

Location Unknown

"What is the status of the Expedition Teams?" A commanding, aged voice says.

"Uhhhh........." lots of frantic typing and trying not to sweat all over her face. "Expedition Team's 1 and 2 had non combat losses and were merged, Expedition Team is drawing manpower from Expedition Team 2, and Expedition Team was rushed out into the field because the Containment Base is on Lockdown

"There is an Expedition Team 4?" He goes silent. "There...." Another silence. "Where is ********* and ********* "

"He's dead, and he's gone insane, respectfully Sir."

"Bastion?" he says.

"Bastion is still in touch with Task Force Vanguard, but they have been promoted to replace *********."

"And what about Expedition Team Leader 1 or 2? Their second in commands?" he says.

"Kendra Clark has been promoted to Inspector, from second in command of Team 2," she says. "Her former team leader is still in her position."

"They're both women?" He raises an eyebrow and looks at her.

She looks back at him and gives him a sort of knowing look. A look that would get her reprimanded in most sections of the military.

He lets out a deep, heavy sigh. "What is the expected kill loss ratio and how much intel have they extracted?"

"Dozens, if not over a hundred enemy KIA or forcibly taken prisoner,"

There is a silence, but shorter this time. His sigh isn't as deep. "This formation is made from some of the finest weirdos, killers, rejects, and nutjobs we can get." Silence. "I look unfavorably at the casualties we are taking, but we're doing serious damage on not much budget... The Founding Father's and all of the philosophers would be proud... We're just like the foreign legion... We recruit from the alleyways, slums, and institutions... And we get results."

"I'd like to think..."

"Everyone deserves some kind of bonus or raise," he says, with a sweep of his arm. "Send out a memo to all subordinates one level down to keep up the good work, and carefully and respectfully shower praise onto Task Force Vanguard when apt."

"And what about the lack of leadership and direction?"

"I want people brought in," he says. "And I want natural leaders in the organization to be motivated and enabled to take command."

He clenches his fist. "We're going to crush our enemies, ALL of them. The dimension hopping nazis, the aliens... This is our dimension, our responsibility to protect."

"And what about the enemies within? The domestic terrorism? The cabal?"

"We're in the middle of a purge as we speak. Six infiltrators were caught and executed last week."
-
-
Sometime later during the debriefing

"Standby" she says. "We're getting reports that there is an incoming invasion."

"Are we the targets?"

"They're targeting the confusingly named Arizona timeline... Reports say after they put down a beacon, we're next."

"I will start making calls."

This is a play by post RPG game, but there will be more hand holding than per usual for that format.

I think we will start play with simplified character creation and some semi-"session zero" stuff.

>Step One

Can you confirm which Branches you are from, and which subsection you were in?

>1. Department of Defense
1.1, United States Army
1.2, Marine Corps
1.3, Air Force
1.4, National Guard

>2. Department of Justice
2.1, FBI
2.2, Federal Marshals

>3. Department of Homeland Security
3.1, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
3.2, NBC Disaster Prevention

>4. Contracted Civilian Personnel
4.1.2, Engineering/Technical/Mechanical Contractors
4.1.3, Logistics/Support Contractors

4.2, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
4.2.1, Scientific Researchers (e.g., Biologists, Physicists, Chemists)
4.2.2, Data Analysts/Statisticians
4.2.3, Linguistic Specialists

4.3, Essential Support Staff
4.3.1, Medical/Paramedical Staff
>>
>Step 2

You will fill this out in character and it will allow you to causally pick your class and some stuff about your character. Sorta like the old questions you were asked in Elder Scrolls, but simpler and faster.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd33NJr1yLn6A3fpKsy8s-GirM0T633XrXJQ6f4KSglmxP9OA/viewform?usp=header

After people make these choices, I'll be able to give people an example character sheet, a blank, and then give people their placeholder character sheets. They will be simplified for now.

You can ask questions about this process. Also, for the first... Two weeks? I am going to let you retcon minor things about your characters or test things.
>>
I've been advised to give some genre information and some foreshadowing or priming.

>What is the system?
Everything is resolved with a D20. System generally is simpler than 5e, but there is complexity for when people want to do backflips (Just as an example) or buy things with XP without having to wait for a level up.

Combat is the simplest system I know, mostly because of this format. The two systems port stats back and forth easily.

>Setting
Just in case it wasn't clear. The players are all from 2003 United States. As far as they knew before joining TFV, everything was exactly the same as IRL. There are some minor differences that aren't important, caused by previous players, that affected the Middle East and Russia.

>Genre / Inspiration / Tone
Basically, we're Stargate Command or a US only XCOM, only we're operating on a shoe string budget because of X-files secret cabal shenanigans.

Setting and mechanics are a gritty, tense tone/feel where survival is often on the line, people can die easily or go insane, and we're underdogs facing whatever horrors the universe has to offer.

>Lore?
There is a Senior Expedition Team, who has struggled and poked around in the dark to get as much information as they can. However, that information right now would be very complicated.

Also you're clearance doesn't cover it just yet.
>What do we understand about timelines?

Way less than we want to know. We're like Ben Frank discovering electricity here. We have someone who is on the level of Stephen Hawking on staff, but we need WAY MORE data to even understand this stuff.

Our level of understanding is like Medieval peasants doing a bunch of jumping around and hocus pocus, and accidently doing like chemistry or something.

Like we're washing our hands and we know it keeps us from getting sick, but we don't know why.

That's the metaphor.
>>
>>6279024
You want us to fill out this form if we've already got characters?
>>
>>6279023
4.1.2, Engineering
The Engineer, is Engi-here!

Some of these options really give me a good laugh.
>>
You don't have to, but it would help if you want to flesh things out more or opt into allegiances or such.

Or make it clearer what exactly your class is.

We're going to have a time skip shortly and have some introduction stuff.

Another Timeline
Nine Weeks Later

"I don't understand" Special Forces Medic, ''Doc'' says "You keep good pace and sprint well... And you seem to recover cardio just fine..." He then shakes his head. "But you ruck terribly... Jesus Christ Jack... What is your problem?"

"I spoke to you," A gruff, no nonsense tall, stoic, suspiciously Soviet looking soldier says. "And I told you that he was doing the carrying, very poorly...." The man has his face in his hand, head being spoken side to side. "Where is dangerous Amerikanski spirit that almost kill me four times?"

"I can't give you Ibuprofen," Doc says. "As in a proper combat situation you might bleed to death... So... Here is some Tylenol extra strength.... Don't be a dumb ass and drink anything alcoholic for the next day. Your liver will be fucked." He then stands up and looks over at the other man. "Stárshiy leytenánt Konstantine... How is his progress?"

Konstantine grumbles. "We skipped discipline steps like your government asked..." He starts counting on his fingers and sometimes pointing. "He do reasonable for marksmanship, first aid, grenade throwing, gas mask use, and natural camouflage..... Fitness standards... Meh... Pass conscript standards... Pass Amerikanski Air Force Standards... So just declare the man to be in Air Force and call it done."
-
-
At Jack Price's naturalization ceremony, he is promoted to Airman first class, which is like an Army Corporal.

"Okay Airman Price," Doc says. "I'm not sure if you'll be debriefed by Inspector Clark here or back in the Arizona timeline, but something has come up."

"And make sure they do paperwork in non fuckfuck style!" Konstantine says. "I did not get self blown up over and over and over... and over... and also over... To let you do paperwork wrong and lose everything and all die in horrible fire."

"We managed to capture and move over a large 2.5 ton cargo truck," Doc says. "It should be able to carry your kit and also both your stills."

"And don't use them as stupid little experiment rats who die and are replaced!" Konstantine says. "Give the people their cold weather clothing and check all the warehouses, proper style."

[I don't know where Captain Grand is. I will be providing a compressed version of Jack Price's character sheet soon.]
>>
Yeah, where would Captain Harry Grand have been? Due to different timelines having different rates of time, it would've been maybe a week for him, maybe three.

Also, was he a citizen of TFV's native timeline?
>>
I can compress the character sheet more if people need, but right now, this is is what I got.

I put all the class bonuses to skills inside the skills, but everything else it should be clear where it's from.

I will have this backed up at a pastebin here https://pastebin.com/6DS7ibZa.

Jack Price's Character Sheet
Species: Human
Allegiance: Neutral, American

Ability Scores: +1 for all, except Intelligence (+2)

Background: Alternate Future, Technician
>Background Minor Feat, Armorer (Field)
Due to specialized military training, the character first is given a strong understanding and familiarity of basic mechanics. They gain a +4 to to Craft (Mechanical, Basic). They also obtain, with a +4, the ability to do the following.
A competent field armorer character can maintain, fix, modify, mount, reload ammunition, and figure out most small arms. They can repair all types of small arms, and minor damage to body armor (12 damage maximum), adjust targeting sights, use and repair optical enhancements, reload missiles and ammo drums, and even service most high-tech or alien hardware.

Class: Technician
The Technician is laser-focused on being the (Smart) Hero. No one is as skilled at using technology, nor as skilled at Crafting things, or at taking them apart (Landmines) and putting them back together (Repairing).
>Saving Throws
Intelligence / Wisdom

Skills:
>1. Craft (Mechanical) x 2 [AbSc 2 + SkExp 6 + ClAb 2]
+4 more if doing Armory or Basic Mechanical stuff (Anything DC-15 or easier)
>2. Knowledge (Physical Sciences) x 2 [AbSc 2 + SkExp 6 + ClAb 3]
You also give +2 synergy bonus to skills related.
>3. Use Computer (Also counts as Knowledge (Technology)) x 1 [AbSc 2 + SkPro 3 + ClAb 2]
When rolled for Knowledge purposes, counts as +3 more.
You also crit success on a 19 or 20
-
Basic Training
[Medicine (First Aid/Basic) - [AbSc 1 + SkPro 3]
Knowledge (Tactics) - [AbSc 2 + ClAb 3]
For the purposes of knowing proper behavior, terms, or regulations you get +3 from being Proficient

+3 to all Knowledges, but you can't get synergy for them unless you're Proficient.
All Crafts are +2

Weapon Proficiencies:
Low Recoil Weapons
SMGs [Boot Camp]
AR-15 or M16 [Boot Camp]
M9 pistol / Colt 1911 [Boot Camp]
Grenades [Boot Camp]

Class abilities
Level 3: At the same time, when you use Perception (Search) to “Scavenge”, you have a 1.5 multiplier, rounded down.

Level 5: Can identify the parts to make any item below DC-20 (To Craft) and understands what rolls are needed to make such an item. You can repair any item that is broken, by rolling the same roll as to craft it, but the DC is reduced by 4, it takes half as much time and costs no materials.

Since last we heard from our protagonists, they were pulled back to Earth to deal with the fallout of their group’s dispersal. The government, in its infinite wisdom, decided that the remaining resources should be naturalized and given a rank, so the new expedition team was *slightly* more conventional, and easier to justify resources for.
Jack Price, the engineer, was put through Air Force boot camp, and came out of it with a rank of Airman First Class and a US citizenship. (>>6279686 )
Cpt. Harry Grand, already a member of our United States Air Force, was temporarily assigned to a different unit, and resumed his expedition team duties with an extra week of combat pay (Harry, if you’d like to provide more information about Cpt. Grand’s military background, we can come up with something more specific, otherwise we can wing it.)

And as for the remaining slots on the team, what is to become of them? Shall a passing fairy or other stranger take up the call?

Right now it has a link to where it clearly organizes what you're likely always carrying on you, and what it's called. Should make it like 1% easier to keep track of inventory.

I'm thinking the doc will have a section or new tab that details what is at the player's base and/or vehicles.

Also, while I am at it.

I must have missed something somewhere down the line about Jack being from an alternate timeline. Anyone mind giving me a briefing?

Way I was thinking was that Capt. Grand is AF Intel, possibly with a previous stint in one of the intel agencies or DoE. I'm not sure what other background details would be necessary or even feasible, e.g would there even have been opportunities for proper combat experience?

Jack player's busy or didn't want to reply to what we just happened. Could be it was too long it didn't have a clear window to react. ]

New information:
Jack has been doing combat training in a separate dimension with a certain Tzar’s military in a different version of Russia.
It’s been 2-3 months for him to get through boot camp with them, which has been handwaved to count for our home’s military. He was sent over after we realized that completing boot camp on our Earth would take too long, so contacts in a dimension with a faster timeline took him in.

Harry (and anyone else) have been serving time in our home’s military, doing operations, and getting paid quite well.

That feels like it's not a coincidence, so I'll take it.
I've been seeing those threads and I wanted to ask if they had any relation to the old TFV thread that died a couple months back?
If yes...what exactly is going on?
>>
>>6280542
I don't remember there being a TFV thread a few months ago?
>>

https://archived.moe/qst/thread/6138556/#6138556

Okay, a fair few month ago, but a lot of things feel like echoes, and I wanted to ask since I've seen these floating around.
>>
>>6280563
I checked the good place and that thread seemingly wasn't backed up.

Yeah, this is the same setting. I had forgotten that heavily unsuccessful thread. Those aspects of the setting weren't necessarily a good idea. It did have some positive effect on the main players, but it was rather slow.

I also forgot that the Colorado problem was so bad, that long ago. I'm afraid to say that the situation in Colorado got a lot better, but the situation in Michigan is rather bad.

Is Zach "Godmother" Harper, Supply Officer, Defense Logistics Agency, Dept of Defense back?
>>
>>6280567
If he fits this new take on the setting, and if you'll have me, then sure! Though I aways pictured him as more of a desk jockey, not a terrain guy, unless things get really grim. Not sure if your new way of working the setting works with such long-range support characters. Or how he would fit in all this timeline stuff I need to catch up on.
>>
>>6280579
Welcome! The “fairy” comment combined with your callsign is just fantastic, I wish that had been planned…
Once Jack and/or Harry respond, you all will get a briefing, and you can see how your character fits with the new arc? There’s certainly enough space for you, and QM does like it when people take initiative in figuring out ways to approach a problem, so it could certainly work.

> timeline stuff
Nothing too bad, just think of it as some foreign countries that have odd similarities to the world you’re familiar with. Time passes faster in some places than others (the Tzar’s dimension flows faster than home), but it’s not like you go somewhere and come back a week before you left.
>>
>>6280534
I am not sure what to reply to. Was it the Amazon stuff?

The sheet looks clear to me and the goal timer is nice as a player for an xcom we gotta goal to push us as think about.
>>
>>6280705
The stuff about the training and being roasted for the two checks I rolled for you, that both failed.

Konstantine is talking to your Jack, not another Jack.
>>6280579

Someplace close enough to the capitol
A town large enough to hide in, but too small to be of interest
It is December and warm enough to be raining

Two soldiers meet in a park, a few hours into the night, close enough to a military installation that one of them using a military regulation trench coat isn't too odd. The trenchcoated one offers his right hand to shake and says, "Blindsight," as if it's an introduction.

He slides the other man, a desk jockey, a manila envelope wrapped in plastic and taped shut. "Going forward, you will remain ''Godmother'', no names."

Posted at various differences are men in wind breakers and shades, ect. No... The organization isn't that stupid, and they don't dress security details to look like Feds. So instead, there are men in range of ages, some in their 40s and 50s. Some are in athletic gear (sweat shirt, sweat pants) and a rain coat, and they look a little fat. One seems to talking to a girlfriend or wife. One of them is using the charcoal pit at the park and has a hood over it.

Blindsight gets out a warm hot dog from a cooler and offers either a burger, sandwich, or a hot dog.
>>
>>6280729
After that is two hot thermos of coffee, one for each.

"As you likely guessed," Blindsight says. "The purpose of Task Force Vanguard is to handle the variety of tasks that are too sensitive and classified for other organizations to handle. They are troubleshooters."

He takes a swig of his coffee and goes quiet eating some of the hotdog.

"But I doubt you've looked at the word 'Vanguard' and jumped to the conclusion that they are sometimes the first line of defense and other times the last," he says, before leaning his head back to look at Godmother. "We have a separate organization that handles the very messy things overseas and within the nation." He lights up a cigarette, takes a drag and holds it away. "Task Force Vanguard has official duties and it's heavily classified, but actually on the books."

There is just this dead stare off into space, the rain, the trees, the roads.

"The threats aren't just Al Qaeda, the Russian shadow civil-war, or even the domestic terrorism," Blindsight says. "It's not even just the supposed insiders and elites, the scumbags within the political, military, economic system that think the are better than the rest of us."

He takes another drag and rolls the smoke within his mouth, before blowing out. After that is somemore coffee. "Someone or something, maybe the Devil himself, has fucked up... And now we have things that don't make sense happening, and threats that are only barely scientifically comprehendible."

There is then a talk for about a hour or two about how there are alternate timelines, how some of those timelines know about us, and how their inhabitants want to kill us. How there is a deeply undercover operation to collect intel on other timelines, locate the enemies, obtain resources and information, and strike the enemy where they are most vulnerable. Our commando teams run into theirs, we influence third parties and they do as well. They have attacked our dimension and we have repulsed them.

Alright, thanks for the speedy introduction QM! I'll be reading up on the other threads on suptg tomorrow, since I do have a quest to run myself for now!

>ceremony
"What is is happening in Arizona?"

>paperwork
Jack looks over to Konstantine. "No worries I passed my 'computer literacy' class in high school."

After that I'll head to any briefing or gather info I couldn't see before signing up. I will want all the info I can to prep, if possible, for the mission. If there is nothing new to learn I'll see meeting bad with people for thinking about gear load outs.
>>
>>6279023
So, I've read up on the (slight fever dream of a) first thread, and I do wonder exactly in what capacity Godmother has been brough in.
So I do have a few more technical question:

1. In the original thread, Godmother's branch was:
>Defense Logistics Agency
>>Bureaucrat/Supply Officer

Is this to still be his role going forward, or is he brought in to serve in another function?

2. I'm assuming he works for his home timeline's TFV, and isn't a refugee as the first thread called them?

2.1. If that is the case, what happened with the Colorado incident? Was it timeline infiltration? How did things progress past the old thread?

I have a couple more questions, but I'll save them for later, and once I have the elements to make up a proper character sheet!
>>
>>6280995
1. Yes, you still have a useful and worthwhile class. There is a bit of an issue where you're started to be on eog the best at appraising goods, ordering them, and negotiating orders.

It's not just locating organizations and filling out forms, and moving supplies around.
2. Correct
2.1
"There are far too many people born into or stumbled into power," Blindsight says. "They think they know better. They don't."

In the last year or so of operations, the situation in Colorado has mostly slowed down. There still are curfews, but there isn't any martial law. Vast stocks of medicine, water, and emergency food saved thousands of lives, and prevented suffering to hundreds of thousands.

The attacks have stopped. The gang warfare came to a close. Multiple enemy factions have take considerable losses.
>>
Back on our Earth, the team is called into a room for a briefing. There may or may not have been introductions and chatter between the teammates: it has been several months since Jack has seen Cpt. Grand, but only a week on Cpt. Grand’s side, and ‘Godmother’ is likely a new face to all involved.

After a minute, they are called to attention, and a slim woman with a brown braid pinned into a bun steps forward. For a moment, she fidgets nervously with her armor, then pulls her hand away and grits her teeth. She slightly relaxes when she sees Jack and Cpt. Grand, but maintains the formal demeanor aside from a nod of greeting.

“Greetings, I am Inspector Lieutenant Kendra Clark from the FBI’s Counter-Terrorism Division, currently serving in DSCC. I am responsible for managing all Task Force Vanguard expedition teams, and am a senior member of Expedition Team 2.”

“As such, it is my duty to inform you that an invasion force from an alternate dimension is inbound to attack the Arizona dimension, and potentially our home dimension, Earth 2003. As such, we are mobilizing to prevent them from reaching our home dimension. We have intel that in three days they will land an initial company somewhere around the Arizona dimension’s state of Wyoming to deploy a beacon, which they will use to summon their main force. Their main force is a full mixed-arms battalion, and it will have significantly more manpower and vehicles. We have a week after the beacon is deployed until the main force arrives to either destroy Arizona’s NORAD, or to bypass Arizona entirely and strike directly at Task Force Vanguard’s headquarters here in Colorado.”

“Vanguard Team 2 is working to funnel their possible arrival location into a 10 mile by 10 mile zone, and developing a way to locate them once they land. However, we don’t have the resources to fight the initial landing force of a hundred men, and we certainly don’t have the resources to fight their main force if the full battalion arrives.”

“So, your team’s mission is to travel to the Free Cities in Arizona dimension and recruit as many willing fighters as you can. If those negotiations finish quickly, there’s a famous bug-hunting militia called the Wyoming Free Irregulars who may also be a possible source of manpower if you can convince them to assist.”

“We’ll assist with equipment and negotiation materials as we can, but the government,” she grimaces, “has not allocated us as much funding as we would like. Sending items from home to Arizona incurs substantial costs. Also, be aware that the heavier and more complicated an item is, the more expensive it will be to transport.”

She steps back, clasping her hands behind her back, and surveys the team. “Any questions?”
>>
>>6281299
>There is a bit of an issue where you're started to be on eog the best at appraising goods, ordering them, and negotiating orders.
Not too sure what you meant there, sorry, but I'm glad the cass is workable still! I'll get to filling out those Google Docs then.

Also:

2.2: Was Vanguard deployed to Colorado because at least art of the incident was linked to actions from a hostile entity belonging to another timeline, or was this a more regular operation by the Task Force?

>Vast stocks of medicine, water, and emergency food saved thousands of lives, and prevented suffering to hundreds of thousands.

Harper is glad he could help set that up, if nothing else, and that things have calmd down besides.
>>
>>6281370
I'll assume I got the basics about Timeline/Dimension Arizona, and their bug problems. Basically what was said in the first thread.

"Godmother", the new guy, who really doesn't look like some old lady waving a magic wand around for some reason, raises his hand.

"I read through the basics of both the local orgs and their bug problem. Seems we have a good way of drawing them in via electricity and power generation, and they can move large numbers via power lines. Is the expected 10 by 10 containment zone near any of these "bugged areas"? We could try and set up generators and power lines ahead of time. Maybe literally build them some sort of fake FOB so the bugs know someone is coming, and then let them weaken the initial force. We bring in our militia and clean up the invaders if they win. If the bugs win, well I'm guessing the containment area wasn't chosen because it had extreme strategic value, so the bugs can have it. Could be better if they stick around, less bugs roaming around wherever we'd draw them from."

"Second question. Are we being dropped near the Free Cities? And related third question, if we are to convoy our merry band of freedom fighters to Wyoming, do we know if the roads are drivable?"

"Fourth question, I head alchohol was a great trade good for the locals. Have we identified any specific needs for the free cities we might fill in exchange for guns for hire?"

"Fifth, has anyone been around there to suss out the political situation? If there's loyalty dispute, I don't imagine any of the sides would like to shear off part of their security to help either us or NORAD. What's their relationship with NORAD at, currently, by the way?"

Godmother finally reaches the end of his questions, for now, and lets the others go if they have any of their own.

A man with a tool box in one hand and hasbrown in the other. "This is going to sound random but do you think the invaders can detect blimps or hot air balloons? I was just thinking in the desperate struggle to stop them from deploying the beacon. We could just drop bombs out of them, but I don't remember how air traffic detectors work."

"Next question would have be the same as 'Godmother'. If the bus and Invaders are different groups. Setting up bait generators would be great way to save on fighters. Since random people are already not going to be the best."

"I had thoughts of using capacitors in tandem with batteries to create a rapid influx of active energy to draw in the Zerg. If we can't get generators maybe I can get that test finally done."

"Also to confirm is this we have to get everything done in 3 days or do we still have a little bit of time while they take a week to travel here?"

Jack gets a depressed look on his face and mumbles to himself. " I guess worst case scenario we can send over an APC with a generator. To just have them suicide charge into the aliens. Probably give the generator an exhaust vent and extra armor plates to ensure it staying active."

Jack looks around as listens to others while working out any other thoughts.

Kendra gives him a nod of appreciation. “Great, glad you read up on the dimension. The containment zone was chosen due to technical limitations on our side. They were going to drop into a possible 40 mile by 40 mile zone, and the best we’re able to do with 3 days is get it down to 10 by 10. As it is, Nathan’s already working round the clock to get it done. I think it’s reasonably close to some bugged locations like Laramie or Cheyenne, but I’ll have to see if I can get you a proper map.

“Unfortunately, for the initial force, we’re also being asked to gather information on their combat capabilities, including equipment loadout, tactics, and why exactly they hate us enough to hop through multiple dimensions to make it personal. Bugs would make that challenging. I’m sure the brass would also love the same information for the main force, but…” she shrugs, “if it gets to that, whatever [i]strategic decision[/i] is necessary to get them to no longer be a threat.” She blinks. “And uh, I shouldn’t have to say this, but keep it within the Geneva Convention people. As far as we can tell, they’re humans too, American even, and I’d prefer nobody goes on trial for war crimes.”

“As far as drop locations, I’ll leave that to the QM techs to tell you how close they can get you. The Free Cities are in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho. We have drop coordinates in Sulfur Gulch, and a Wyoming location that Jack and Cpt. Grand should be familiar with. The roads are driveable, but you’re likely to run into unfriendlies like slavers, splatterpunks, or bugs, so keep your eyes peeled and guns close.”

“None of the expedition teams have been to the League of Free Cities as far as I’m aware, so you’re going in blind. You’ll have to figure things out for yourself, though the Tzarina may have slightly more information due to her operations in Arizona. We’ve heard that NORAD only recently learned about them, so it’s unclear what their relationship is.”
>>
>>6281570
“I mean, they have eyes, so it’s likely that they can see the skies. Also, they’re flying through the dimensions in several C-130 planes and whatever is one size bigger, so I would not count on having sole control of the skies.” She frowns. “Sulfur Gulch might be able to provide actual air support, I believe they have planes and they certainly have pilots, but that plane might be high-altitude.”

“I think I answered your bug questions when I replied to Godmother, but let me know if there’s anything else.”

“We have 3 days until the initial company of 100 people arrives, and then a week after the beacon is established until the main battalion arrives. You’ve got time, but not much.”

At Jack’s mention of APCs, Kendra almost literally gets an idea bulb over her head. “Oh right, I completely forgot to mention that we captured an Abrams tank, which is still in Arizona. That should help with things.”

If they are human like us. Then I think we can do a night bombing raid with balloons, assuming the wind is in our favor and they have lights going if we want to do hot air balloons. There is the weather balloons that do 3000 gram or 6.613868 lb of weight. I could be wrong, but I think we could do some damage with this weight to work with. We could have signal problems, but a release system can be made. That is if we have the gear to read the weather. We can do it based on timing to let things drop.

>>6281578
>Jack and Cpt. Grand should be familiar with.
A little, I was checking MapQuest while I have internet to get some info and hope they are about the same in layout. I hope there are good spots to recruit closer. Otherwise it's gonna be a long drive on a good day. If we have supply personal we will not have to worry as much about managing feeding people on the way to places. Still I imagine we will have to stop at places to resupply.

>Question
I want to know what would be preferred for us to use as trade to gather support. I assume man power to help work on the area or bring in train personnel to help infrastructure or healing would be cheaper. It would be a boon if basic multivitamins would win us the people we need.
>>
>>6281612
>night bombing raid
Kendra nods. “I like your thinking. That definitely sounds like a good idea, and much cheaper than some other air support.”

>trade goods
“Their world has been half-over for 5 years now, and anything not from the area or requiring a lot of manufacturing is probably going to be pretty tough to get, as well as supplies that go bad or get used up. So, citrus, coffee, multivitamins, medicine, maybe tobacco… I think some of the bigger ‘cities’ have around 5000 people if that changes anything.”
>>
>>6281578
Godmother gets his turn again. He's been scribbling on a notepad every so often, and goes back through things Kendra said in order.

"A map would be good. Speaking of the zone, will we at least get a little heads up before they drop, possibly even a location, or will we only know for sure once they start coming in?"

>combat capabilities, including equipment loadout, tactics, and why exactly they hate us enough to hop through multiple dimensions to make it personal

"Most of the needed intel we can get just by getting eyes on their fight with the bugs, I think. Just need to port over some good optics and a recording device that can capture the feed, and command can get a birds' eye view. As for the why, well, either we find the info on their corpses, or they actually win against the bug and we sweep in and get them to surrender before the second bug wave gets there. As for how we get to the corpses, that's easy. The bugs aren't dumb. They'll figure peeling off troops form Laramie and Cheyenne leaves them open to attack. So we attack. At that point we should have some local troops. Givve them molotovs, explosives, hell even a few GLs, ride up to a bugged town and make some noise. The bugs on the battle site will pack up, likely leaving either a skeleton crew to finish gathering equipment and loot. If we time it well, they wouldn't have time to pack it all up. If they do, either they'll leave enough for us to rummage through, or they'll have dedicated scavs under escort, and those likely won't trush back with the main force, so we could snipe them on the way back. Plenty of ways to work this as far as I'm concerned. Ways that don't include a half dozen chronically-underfunded dimension hoppers and their local gaggle of local chucklefucks going up againt a one-hundred strong military unit with better cohesion, morale, and likely tactics and equipment as well. Because that way wouldn't end well, I think we can agree."

>strategic decision

"Of course, the main thing is making sure the main force never crosses over. Intel is good, but not worth having those guys getting here."

>Geneva
"Obviously, no war crimes. But if they rile up the local wildlife and get mauled, who could blame us? But yes, I'll make sure we offer them a chance to surrender, and that they won't trip and shoot themselves in the back of the head until we get them back...actually, we probably shouldn't bring them back here. Who knows if the techs on their side could work some magic and make a direct bridge bypassing Arizona. An alternate isolated location in Arizona that isn't one of our holdings, maybe? We can figure that later though."
>>
>>6281578
>splatterpunks

"Actually, I wouldn't mind a reminder on the splatterpunk guys. Bug-themed Mad Max wannabes, or something different?"

>NORAD only recently learned about them
"That's better than the cold war I was dreading, at least. We'll just have to be careful. Speaking off, what's the team roster for this mission?"

>>6281586
>Also, they’re flying through the dimensions in several C-130 planes and whatever is one size bigger, so I would not count on having sole control of the skies.

Godmother's eyes widen, and he brings the conversation back to this once Knedra is finished.

"Regarding air control, did you say they could translate, or phase, or travel or whatever, to "Arizona" in a plane, as in flying through the air, maintaining inertia and all? Because that would change a fair bit! I wasn't aware this was even possible. Or is it just the main force? Or did I get this wrong?"

>>6281633
>trade goods
"If these are indeed small fragmented settlements, getting a list of rare goods from important figures may go quite a long way. Good old bribes. And if they're somewhat upstanding, more generic stuff for their people. Best way to know their needs is to ask. We're essentially expensive instant traders in good that no lnger exist. We'd have a good in from that alone."
>>
>>6281641
>map
Kendra promises, “I’ll get you a map if I have to make one myself. I think we’ll know as soon as they get here, but not where right away.”

>intel
“Fair enough, sending the bugs after them does make sense.”

>>6281642
>splatterpunks
“Mad Max is pretty accurate. They’re a bunch of gangers and bandits and generally not very trustworthy. We took out a giant group of them that called themselves the Parliament of Crows, but I’m sure there are still smaller fish left.”

>team roster
“For your mission? You, Jack, Cpt Grand, and maybe 1-2 other support staff you can requisition. A medic is required, and probably someone who’s good at dishing out damage if you people aren’t very combat-focused. Aside from you all, there are the other expedition teams who will also be assisting where we can, as well as the Daredevil group, and we can requisition some Marine support as long as they’re not involved in combat against bugs, since they’re not exposed to the idea of multiple dimensions and setting them against bugs is a [i]bad[/i] way to introduce them. As for the teams… Team 1 has Alan who’s the only full-time member, with assistance from Anthea and me. Team 2 has 4 members: me, Anthea, Nathan, and Noah, and we’ll be focusing on the beacon.”

>air control
“It’s not possible for us, which is why we really want their tech. Being able to transport that much mass could be incredibly useful, even if it’s much slower than our current method. I really don’t know what the inertia situation is, but the planes have been described as ‘flying between dimensions,’ which is good enough for me.”

>trade goods
“Certainly is, just let us know what you’ll want to bring and we’ll try to find the budget.”

I just looked at all the systems and their generators, and proved they're numbers are ridiculous and insane.

So I know exactly what two generators are mostly used from 1998 to around 2025.

Bigger generators might require some digging and I already know how you might be able to produce enough power in one place to draw bugs in. There is actually multiple good and bad solutions.
>>
>>6281612
Any capitol city or MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) is bugged. Wheatland is close, very close to where Sulfur Gulch is.

From guesswork, rumors, and driving you should figure out this map.

When the people flee the population centers, they build brand new cities that are named but not mapped. The location of these cities is likely where it's easy to get food to. Either by rivers, highways, or massive farm areas.

Wyoming is dry as hell, based on its biome map. Unless it's crazy high in pop I imagine it's last place for free city number

I'm trying to reply but the numbers for the setting are turning out to be completely bricked. I'm going to try and stabilize them, but just for the record do not use that picture I just sent you.

According to that Animals are almost free and any moonshiner with a small still and a corn field would be like a millionaire.
>>
Shipping prices
Okay so for the everyone knows, maximum price is 10 dollars a kilo to jump something in. If there are generators, a landing pad, proper prep, and time, we can get costs down to about 5 dollars a kilo.

Brewing output
The two stills have been working around the clock for at least 6 days, before Prof B wanted to go home or work for NORAD or something. The higher ups know, you do not know. It had already been running, so that would be 3 cycles for both stills. 13 gallons.

Value math
This would come out to 13 gallons of Cellulose Ethanol, which burns at 1/3rd efficiency. We could jump in 12 kilos worth of stuff and save about 120 dollars. (Most of the time everything is stabilized at 2016 prices in our home dimension)

For every 2.2 kilograms of corn kernels (22 dollars to jump in) we jumped in, it could be brewed into 1 liter of alcohol, which is worth 88 dollars in Arizona. Inflation says that is 124 dollars to us. Be aware that goods in Arizona are sometimes the same, 50% more or double the cost the were before meltdown.

New Balanced Values
We're now going to be using what I call Bosnian prices. They are balanced, make sense and I am happy.

Gasoline is worth 40-100 dollars now a gallon in Arizona.

The price for flour is for long term survival grain/flour. The actual cost for most people to survive a day is like 8-12 dollars.

A laborer wants at minimum 12 dollars to support themselves and a child too small to work.

A development kit (see Containment/Expedition Team 04, Gear Log) costs 71 dollars to assemble and 10 dollars to ship. It is worth 60 dollars there, at least.

>I will back these numbers up somewhere.

>Now finally able to read and reply to your stuff!

Wildcat, Doc, and Alisa are present for some kind of debriefing. The former two have been watching the base site. The three of them had some time to talk to each other, but generally Alisa seems to be her with Kendra.

"In terms of generators," Alisa says. "It's a huge pain in the ass to bring them over because they're expensive and they're heavy... At the same time, they're also expensive here," She points at the ground. "I can't tell if there is a way to produce enough juice fast enough to be what we need or not..."

She remembers that someone said something about batteries or capacitiers. "I don't know what those are, but they sound expensive and heavy... But maybe you can like buy them or assemble them from parts or electrical components from Laramire or whatever that place is."

>2. Question
Wildcat puts his hands behind his back and looks over at Alisa, who clears her throat and steps forward.

"You're going to get dropped close to where you were before... " Alisa says. "I have some Toyota Hilux's or Tocamas....Or whatever that will meet your cargo carrying needs. Supercab and regular versions, decent sized beds... We can go at least like 45 Miles an hour over some of the flatlands and dirt roads... That's what 4 wheel drive is for."

"We also might have some Humvees we can buy," Wildcat says "Or we could perhaps borrow them from NORAD."

"I put on nice tactical skirt," Alisa says. "Found a tanktop undershirt that fit me and undid some buttons on a OCU, and then bat my eyelashes very aggressively, and... Um... Frontier Command is now part of my organization." She looks up at the sky for a few moments, before looking at them. "I'm not sure if this means I need to form a new battalion for Wyoming or we're making up a brand new state or what... But they might have some Humvees for us too."

"With Jack," Wildcat says "And/or some of the other grease monkey's, we should able to get half decent armor and fireports on them... We'll need short enough guns, and aiming will be a bit of a process... But it'll be good."
-
-
>5. Question

Alisa flips through a tactical clipboard and squints, before putting on glasses and adjusting them. "Multral defense pact... Tit tit tit..." She moves her finger to guide her reading. "Cellular relay towers for early warning and communication... NORAD heard of them recently... They are real... Not as big as thought... They are medium of large towns... Lots of small arms... Some armored vehicles... Even some like WW2 or such Airplanes that drop... Bombs... And Bug Juice... NORAD is paranoid because only they should have bug juice.... Thriving trading posts, only easy place to get firearms and ammo besides the Four Corners under NORAD... Only for Friends of the League however... Big donation or some kind of mercenary work or military alliance should get us in..."

She lifts her head and looks around, before adjusting herself. "Am I helping?"

>capacitors
"Are very short term battery used to hold a charge to build up for something with a greater demand than would be allowed for the system. As the internet says 'Unlike the battery, a capacitor is a circuit component that temporarily stores electrical energy through distributing charged particles on (generally two) plates to create a potential difference. A capacitor can take a shorter time than a battery to charge up and it can release all the energy very quickly.' They are small and we can just stack them up to make a lager load sent happen. I'm hoping we can make a fake out happen with smaller power sources to build up into want is needed."

"Since they are used in the power grid we can likely gather some in the place we are going. Just tell me the power levels to be noticed and I will attempt the math to see what we need. Likely we will need a good amount of parts from the way people are talking. (If I need to roll to know or do the math in a hand wave. I am fine with that and will likely save both of us some research.)"

Kendra chimes in. “It’s going to be November or December over there, so it’ll be extremely cold. Alisa said she’s working on fast-tracking some cold weather gear, and I think she mentioned something about showing you her factory?”

“One final thing, you’ll be fighting Americans. The details were grainy, but they carry what seems to be our flag, maybe plus or minus a few stars. Their training is at least as good as Russian or Soviet conscripts, maybe as good as our own forces. They operate in squads of about 10 people, spread out 5 feet. They have mortars, machine guns, and in a group of 30, there’s a guy carrying a backpack radio. They only have small tanks or small tracked vehicles of the same size, nothing medium or large, and no Humvees either. They don’t seem to have any paranormal abilities, and they speak English, though their English is… scrambled, for some reason. We heard them talk and couldn’t understand the words, but still got the general meaning.” She shrugs. “The language is more a curiosity than a concern, but still worth noting, especially since they’re coming from a dimension that’s much closer to an evil influence.”

“You all should probably discuss with your teammates on what you want the approach to be, and where you’ll head first? The drop zone is about half a day’s drive from the nearest Free City location (which is not marked on the map since it’s not mapped anywhere in the sourcebook). You’ll also want to figure out if you’re going to take any additional personnel besides Doc, and any other bundles or equipment or bribes.”

>>6282098
So team, what's the odds on us baiting the bugs and these phony-Americans into fighting each other?
>>
>>6282135
Depends on the time it takes to set up and how close we would need to do it. With luck we can have a team go recruit and the other building up. At least we know the area and can do something to bait the bugs to one point and set up another on the opposite side. If we need to set it up real close to the Invaders for it to matter.

----
>personal
Likely we will want 1 tech person to set up and 1 to gather extra supplies on Arizona. Both of us can start gathering until we have enough to start working. We will want 1 to 2 combat personal to cover the work area.

I am thinking with your acting chops we can get more out of the help we get to win people over. I imagine the supply person Godmother will keep prices fair for trade or better in our favor. If Doc and a tech go with y'all. That will give more options to win favors. Be it quick repairs or Diagnostic and treatment.

Maybe 2 people for fuel material gathering and distilling.

For the attack long range fighters could be great depending on the terrain we are fighting in.

Can we get a list for gear and anything we can sign out from storage?

I think of somethings and hope we have it. Like a vehicle repair kit for maybe work on that tank. As well as any abandoned vehicles to make more transport for the people we gather. Likely will need a welding kit to go with. If we can get mountable weapons we could make some technicals.

Later getting those weather balloons and bombs to go with. I believe there was a atmosphere moderating tool in the old thread gear list.

"Yeah, I'd say you're helping. Looks like they've got a big sign on the dor that says "Bribe Us". I can appreciate that honesty. Hmm, any chance we could get access to those cell towers? If we split up to keep an eye on the landing site, or staying at base to keep things running, I don't think radios will cut it at that distance, is that right?"

>>6282098
Godmother's lips pinch as he hears they'll be up against Americans, and not just because it makes the prospect of standing up to them with jumped-up militia an even worse idea.

"We can definitely prep some bribe kits with light but valuable stuff. They must be making their own powder and bullets just fine, maybe even homegrown medicine and antibiotics, but allergy meds, insulin? I doubt it. Plus if anyone still needs them after all these years, they're probably someone powerful, or being protected by someone powerful enough to send people in or near bugged areas to fetch the stuff. They'd be interested in a steady supply. Beyond that, some good broad spectrum antibiotics, maybe some water filtration tablets for their expeditions. I know they have natural filters, but they"re practical, you know? Then once we've got or in, or before if the bribes we bring aren't enough, I can just ask around for what people need, and we figure out what to port in. Actually, would it be better to just pack up the fuel we do have and rig up a portal over there? Shouldn't be anything stopping us. Or we could just buy their fuel, use that, and give or sell them stuff to turn a profit and get goodwill. Lay our cards on the table. New merchant in town, your one ticket to pre-collapse goods. We'd get volunteers, and be in a good position to ask the local leaders for men, guns, and vehicles so trade continues. See a need, fill a need, get them hooked, and voila. Maybe some good Cuban cigars? Statistically there has to be one cigar enjoyer in there somewhere."

"What do you all think? Take the fuel that's there and leave a skeleton crew to keep the main site defended and producing alchohol, while we ride off and go meet the neighbors, and port stuff locally as needed?"

[Oh and I did a bunch of math and Laramie is roughly where the last and one of the smallest of the 9 "cities" would be. It would be more spread out but still trying to be defensible, likely with concentrations that are protected hugging the highway or rivers. Another chunk would be close to the forests so they could get easy access to the timber, or at least close to the river so they could float trees.]

>Cell Towers.

"The humvee radios," Alisa says. "They push like 15-30 klicks or something..." She looks at the others. "Maybe we can use our satellite phones if some of the satellites still orbital belong to Uncle Sam."

>Insulin

"I don't think we know if the insulin will survive the trip," she says, before frowning. "The diabetics all might be dead."

Doc meanwhile is already just writing down that he needs to request a disaster relief kit.

>Their fuel

"Their fuel is like a million bazillion dollars," Alisa says. "I aint buying that..." She grumbles and pouts. "The triple R and Wyoming Free are riding horses everywhere for a reason."

"I got a step in for the local area," she says. "But they are very junior.... I've been asking around and Wyoming is too barren, and all best places to settle are either on top of coal reserves that the bugs want... Or they're the major cities that got all bugged up."

She goes over to Kendra and leans on her, resting her chin on Kendra's shoulder. "We have to go like to the very north part of the state, second fifth to the east... To find the other closest city... The rest of them are in the other two states... I think"

Yeah last time I was at camp they gave us just enough fuel for sending some items and a vehicle, but we had to start making some fuel to run the vehicle.

Kendra’s brow furrows. “If you’re keeping some people at the base camp for making alcohol and the like, I think I can make it worth your while to have it make into something of a FOB, with fortifications and space for people to coordinate.
I can get up to a dozen Daredevil operators for you, they’re special forces operatives who are pretty not Army Corps of Engineers, but I can probably swing it if you’re actually establishing a base. But, I’m going to need two things from you if I have them help build it.

“One,” she raises a finger, “make a semi-permanent landing zone, and make sure there’s a way to destroy it if everything goes to shit. It’ll cut down a lot on the cost of sending stuff to Arizona, but I’d prefer that the enemy not get ahold of it.

“Two,” she holds up another finger, “designate one person as leader so they can hold the GDO and give Daredevil and the Marines orders. I don’t care if you make decisions as a group - you actually seem to work well together, and I’m liking all the discussion - I just need someone to be responsible for holding the ball. If you don’t want to do that, I’ll designate Doc, and we can revisit leadership at a later date.

“The FOB should have, at least, some HESCO barriers and somewhere for people to sleep out of the wind.”

>bug bait
“I’ve seen maybe a hundred bugs come out of an active telephone line in the span of seconds. If you tie into a bugged power or telephone line, you might be able to put bugs right where you want them. Just make sure there’s a shutoff that’s [i]not[/i] at the end. Also, I have no idea how frequently bugs come through, so it might be a gamble. If it doesn’t pay off, make sure you cut the line, and we’ll move to some plan B.”

>equipment
(Any additional questions from Jack especially, but also Cpt Grand and Godmother? You all get at least one bundle, I believe team lead gets more)

>other stuff
“If any of you are inclined to figure out a strategy for this operation, it would earn major points with the higher-ups. We should be able to pull a topographic map of the area from our dimension, and I’ll probably get one of the other teams to survey the area in person as much as we can.”

"If I'm reading this one right, our best bet would be to find above or underground powerlines still running between Casper and Cheyenne, or Casper and Laramie. Tap into them and run it to the entrypoint once we have it narrowed down further. Lets us put the shutoff nice and far away too."

>>6283358
>"It shouldn't be to hard to fry the gear if that's what we need to do."

"We can keep the electronics in a central location, and either evacuate them or fry them if things go bad. Dump them into a pile and toss in thermite, maybe? Water may not be thorough enough, same for traditional explosives. But for the landing itself, I'm sure several pound of C4 and three redundant detonation methods should be secure enough. Failing that, I guess spilling gas over it, setting it on fire, and then either shooting or tossing in grenades should prevent people from reverse-engineering a lot of it.
But I'll need a look in person to make a better call."
I'm looking at the pastebin req form, and there is something called a frag-switch which might help with th electronics part of this?

"For the leader thing, this is a military operation, and the goal here is to stop a military recon element, so I'll happy delegate to the actual military people on this one. That, and I'll be with the group handling trading, so I may not be in constant contact with base with what we talked about. So someone else should handle that, I think."
Also, I'll be away from my PC for most of next week, and can't guarantee I'll be able to phonepost well, if at all.

>Development or Disaster Relief
Can't see those in the pastebin, were they shared somewhere in the first thread? But since Doc is packing Disaster Relief, I think I should take development to cover our bases?

>Planning
"We'll need to worshop the plan as we go. Depending on what I can wrangle from the Free Cities, we may see new options. But the short and sweet version of the plan now, as far as I'm concerned, is hit them hard and fast, and keep them off balance. We lose siege by default here, and if we let them dug in, a frontal or even multidirectional assault will be a bloodbath. Thinking on it, I'm sure they have mortars we could buy. Not the most complex thing in the world. Those guys will need a neat open space to get their gateway going. It's a bit like a runway, if it's constantly under fire we may buy ourselves time."

Kendra raises an eyebrow and says very dryly “I’m going to take that ‘worshop’ word as ‘workshop’ instead of ‘worship,’ since I’d hope you don’t have religious sentiments towards planning.” ooc: I absolutely read it as ‘worship’ first and had to do a double take! lol “We definitely have mortars available, my teammates have used them to great effect. [I rolled dice and checked a lot of charts, and I think we can get this show on the road finally. Just trying to get my stuff straight so I don't have to contradict myself in the same day.]

Alisa shows up after using the Jeep or an ATV thing. "I checked again, and Frontier Command is part of a settlement.... Independence Station...." She frowns. "It's the newest, most isolated, of the nine free 'cities' so none of our sources knew about it.... We also thought it would be closer to Independence rock.... But maybe there is some settlement on that side of the Medicine Bow National Forest."

She gets out a clipboard and looks it over, flipping through pages. "I did some checking and Independence has a shortage of well.... basically everything... But I seem to be able to get some ethanol and other things that we need... still working out how engines work.... We might have to visit another of the 9 cities closer to the others to really pull them in... but they also might be wayyyy too far away."

*Godmother rummages through the various sheets of paper he's been given to get up to speed, finally landing on the lists for the bundles.*
"Hmm, tt says here that the Disaster Relief bundl includes a generator and 20 gallons of fuel though, is that still accurate? Otherwise Disaster relief is a bit too laser focused on first response stuff, as it's supposed to, so Dev Kit would be the preferred option."
*He looks to Jack.*

"It's your call, I think. If there's a generator and fuel included, especially if we're going to that Independence Station place, packing one Disaster Relief bundle might be a good call. Otherwise, another Dev Kit would be best."

[Going to try and weave the three campaigns together, here I go]

Satellite phone all
1 or 2 Days Before Invasion

Expedition Team 4 is informed that E Team 3 is doing serious recon on a 10 x 10 mile battlespace that we expect the landing force to arrive within. That space has been shrunk from 40 x 40 by "Nathan" from Expedition Team 2, working around the clock.

Alisa messaging or arriving in person
Laramie/Independence Station is actually one of the nine cities, but it's the newest and the most disconnected. It's not entirely absorbed into the Tzarina's organization, but they are respecting each other's command structure, credentials, rank system, and so on. There is a whole bugged MSA between the two of them, with her main base in southwest Nebraska.

Satellite phone all
Before Invasion

Expedition Team 3 and 2 have encountered the Wyoming Free Irregulars, about a battalion or so of them. The lot of them have been digging and preparing a "talk" (HQ and Coms tent area), a medical tent, and some other facilities, along with a medical humvee, some knocked over trees, sandbags, and whatever can be prepared in less then 24 hours.

At great expense and labor, a whole platoon of operators is being moved in, along with a lot of supplies to bolster them and the Wyoming Free Irregulars. No reinforcements will be needed. The WFI have insisted we smash them and clean up entirely with humans, NO ALIENS.

Satellite phone all
Post Invasion

The battle went extremely well, close to zero losses. Around ten enemy KIA, twenty heavily wounded, and the rest as prisoners'. Four M113s were captured, a lot of supplies and prisoners, and a prison camp is being setup till it's deduced where the prisoners will be sent.

E Team 4 is told they can rush over to find, sort, and bury or guard the the enemy "base camp" or "supply dump".

All other friendly forces are tired, and there is worry that someone else will loot the area in the meantime.
>>
>>6284056
>>6284103
>>6284116
The Disaster Relief Bundle got pulled out by a new Field Medic who joined E Team 3. The contents were used to keep the wounded alive and win over the WFI.

The Development Kit isn't a Kit kit. However, if you requested it like it was a Kit, you would get 10 of them, they would weight 10 kilograms or 23 lbs.

Orders Relayed by Sat Phone, hooked to GDO, hooked to encrypted laptop
Supervisor Bastion

A second attempt might be made by another company of the enemy, within Wyoming.

A considerable amount of funding and "Arizona" dimension based resources, logistics, wealth, and supplies has been expended.

New Orders:

Maximize the replenishment of wealth and supplies. Secure the undefended wealth and supplies of enemies.

Arrange for a strategic location for a large supply "landing site" (Cross Timeline) to be built.

Obtaining Generators, Stills, or semi-vacuum biomass high temp heating containers, all prioritized. All can be made from scrap or materials found in abandoned buildings or towns.

An IIT (Inter / Intra Timeline)"Supply Depot" could be built somewhere, but it would require 60,000 USD worth in local supplies. Such a location could store, process, and sort supplies and/or valuables. From the location they could be sent across the same timeline much more easily, or be sent back home.
>>
>>6284674
Neat. Well time travel can be like that. Time to change up planning then.

>>6284683
Well then I just need to know what the pick amount for gear is and if we have or get anything else for the team when we travel over.

>Ideas
We will likely still want to get local people to support us with man power and on site supply scavenging. The Development Kit could still be of use as payment for working. At least until we get on site production going for the stills and maybe we can get farms going for long term fresh food.

>Personal request
We will need support of a chemist and/or researcher to get some meds and the like made on site. Unless one of the other two are good in the lab, but it would still be good to have a few more well trained people to support our team. It would give us options at the very least.

Then an engineer for support for planning and development of the site.

"I found about ten scholars or professors in Independence Station," she says. "And about ten engineers they are mechanical or electrical."

Humming and thinking sounds. "If I bat my eyelashes well, maybe a kilo of development kit will get us 2 days out of one of these experts... So ten days from one and ten from another."

"Where do you think the site could be so it's secure and ours?"
>>
>>6285063
back pack 1 and coil 50ft 1 per 3 returned. If things are in the same state from the other time. I will want to see about my shovel getting fixed or replaced. Otherwise I do believe we got more on site.

I saw the demolition kit, but it seems to not be the type for dealing with mining. I'll need a list of the different crafts to make sure we have the tools we need to build up. Otherwise looking like I will want 1 cost for Craftsman kit - construction and 1 cost weather sensor plus another tool kit or 3 cost solar panel if I get two extra and don't need to grab us more tools.

>>6285063
Our old team was not able to explore our area to say for sure. We have a hamlet near by that may need to be cleared to ensure safety for building. Once that is done we can use it for it's buildings and save time on building up. Then it will hopefully just be small pockets of bugs until we get near Laramie. Assuming our area will work it is probably about 1 hour drive from the invasion site.

A small construction kit is 50 lbs and includes this. You can maybe drop some items and save some weight. Otherwise we will have to trust in the Jeep and a little wagon we can tow.

Small Construction KitSledgehammer (non-weapons grade), power drill, power saw, nail gun, caulking gun, shovel, hard hat, work gloves, safety goggles, tool belt, trowel, steel-toe boots, stud finder, duct tape, sand paper, tape measure, and building supplies (cement and drywall mix, lumber, glass, and so on as needed), paint and painting supplies (brushes, mixing tins, etc.), Do-It-Yourself handbook.

>>6285608
I kind of need to know what all crafts are to finish picks to make sure I didn't miss something we would need.

Also there is a or in the list. Are you saying I have the solar panel and the weather sensor plus another tool kit? With the points given I was debating. If that is the case that power source would be nice to have. Then we can also tell the weather for planning.

>>6285637

Are we ready to "Jump"?

We jumping to the old site or Sulfur Gulch? What are we doing when we get there?
>>
>>6285769
Depends on some things, but if we have control over Sulfur Gulch and it's safe to build there. I see little reason not to go over there. Unless most of the gear I would use is still there at the old camp. Both locations seem about the same from the invasion site.

If we can drop off the new stuff at sulfur gulch. I would hope we can drive the jeep with, any fuel made since we been gone. As a way to bring those items over.
>>
>>6285769
Ready as I'll ever be. I'd vote Sulfur Gulch, we'll be more familiar with the terrain. First order of business is probably getting an actual FOB up and running, unlike last time.

Old site action plan
Confirm if the hamlet is safe. Once cleared we check if the place is usable for building. If not we survey the old camp site, make a layout plan, and then ready for the slabs.

Sulfur Gulch
In the new place we will survey the new area for suitability and gather information on the area. Plan layout and where it will be with said information.

This is the current idea for what we will do there.
>>
Sulfur Gulch is a bunker town based around a pre-Meltdown civilian airfield that somehow was not destroyed when the world went nuts right after Y2K. It has a basic airfield, a few outdoor hangers, a primitive control tower, four Quonset huts (where the locals live and work), a cinder block bunker where emergency supplies and weapons are kept, and to the West, an absolutely huge aircraft graveyard, where the chassis of dozens of defunct aircraft lay abandoned.

The location wasnt especially valuable until word got out that there was a massive subterranean aircraft hanger, under the airfield. This hanger featured grand elevators, where craft could be lifted to the surface. Not only was their a vast collection of spare parts and partially functional hills, but entirely intact aircraft and helicopters had been discovered.

It was captured and declared a free, independent "bunker town". The location now has a perimeter established around all of it, including a full ditch and barbed wire chain link fence.

The location used to be useful for commerce, being between Casper and Cheyenne, while also being fairly close to Nebraska.

The areas around the base and even some of the ditches, are now covered in crosses and haphazard grave markers, which just barely avoid looking like a mass grave.

Expedition Team 4, perhaps due to finally having an assigned "Team Leader", now has a stronger understanding of the exact hierarchy and chain of command.

DSCC
At the top is DSCC, with the Council Heads running the organization. Each of the Department secretaries is publicly involved.

Directories
The DSCC, has personnel assigned from each of the executive departments, which are mixed together into "Directories" (Sub Committees).

Informally, inside each Directory is the personnel from a specific Department, like the Department of Defense, or even a branch of a Department, like the USMC.

The existence of the Directories isn't classified, but the information within them is.

TFV
Task Force Vanguard behaves like a Directory, only it is "Top Secret" or "Highly Classified". Only some members of DSCC know about TFV, and few outside the DSCC know that TFV exists.

Most assume that TFV is a unit of elite problem solvers, "trouble shooters" , or some kind of crack rapid deployable task force deployed in the event of a crisis. This is mostly correct.

TFV has two or three "SPF" (Special-Purpose Forces) platoons. Most of their members call themselves "Operators" or "special forces", but this angers the Green Berets (US Army Special Forces) who popularized both terms and have a very complex 'Code of the Special Forces Operator' which they have sworn to since 1959.

SPF is often also a term used for enemy forces. The term "Commando" is used sometimes, but it's not terribly popular.

All of the TFV personnel conceal their identities and refuse to speak to anyone who isn't above them in the chain of command. It is presumed they are all "Tier 2", such as Green Berets, Rangers, Marine Recon, Navy Seals, or so on.

"Daredevil" and "Joker" are the names of two of the platoons.

TFV also includes a pharmacist, a few doctors/surgeons, a civil-affairs specialist (Who is an Officer), and others.

Temporal Contingency Team (TCT)
Within TFV is the even more classified TCT, which is known only to members of TFV, a few select supervisors (Like Bastion), and less then a dozen extremely high ranking "Top Brass" (eg, Alpha Omega). At least one of them is an extremely high ranking current or former Marine general, and another the highest ranking Green Beret or someone of similar or greater rank.

The TCT has 4 expedition teams, a full time Physics expert who is a peer of Steven Hawking (Amelia), and can be loaned anyone from TFV or a select number of Marine infantry.

The landing site needs to be in an area where Arizona timeline people don't see 25,000 dollars worth of supplies popping into existence. It could be inside a large building.

Time / Survival Roundel Starting
Expedition Team 4 deploys in the OCU MK 2-4, in the All Overt Desert Pattern. Baselayers are CDL manufactured, using Polartec Power Dry. Over that is a very light CDL "wind-breaker". Finally, over that is the OCU MK 2-4.

Time is 4PM. 40 F. No Rain, Low Wind.

In Buttpack: Gen 2 Goretex (US Woodland), Emergency "Fishtail" DWR Parka (2-4 materials, AOB Desert), and reversible "Taslan" nylon (CADPAT / AOB, Desert) "smock".

The whole team is encumbered but with their Jeep.

>Go time

What does the team do over the next 4 hours? Is their focus on recon around Gulch, the forward "Talk / HQ / Medical Tent / Prisoner camp, or the invasion landing site / enemy basecamp?

You can move 45 miles over an hour, but exploring or fully examining a square mile takes 4 hours.

I somehow forgot to post this.
>>
>>6286351
Since we are now tasked with making a supply storing and supply replenishment. With also securing the undefended wealth from the invasion site. I would suggest we split into one team check with the independent "bunker town". The other Team check Sulfur Gulch so we can plan travel paths and see about go places to build up.

I'm hesitant to let them know our plans, but we can still ask them about the area around. Like got places to salvage for supplies to trade with. Which then we can use to plan round places that will not have heavy traffic to build up first. While there we can also see about hiring people to help gather the loot and move things around.

What people are in the whole team. Do we still have Doc, Wildcat, Rook Philips the Machine gunner and anyone else that isn't Cap, "Godmother", and Jack?
>>
If you're talking about three posts ago, the independent and free bunker town is Sulfer Gulch.
>>
>>6286726
Rook and Wildcat are at the old site watching the supplies, and as needed, backing up the Tzarina.

Philips and Doc is with you.
>>
>>6286737
If the town is taking up the whole area. I would say we move to explore the title on the way to the invasion site. Since they likely have explored the area. Still have another team talk to the people in town. Depending on how that goes we can get a building to use for trade, organization, and store our gear. I am hoping we can get info on a good area to build at for what we need.

Assuming people are fine with splitting up. I think cap, godmother, and doc hit the town and watch the gear. Philips and me can check out our path to travel and hope we find something that could work. I think being a few hours away from town should give us the privacy we need at the start, but a chance at extra protection and workers. That is if these people don't loot us for unknown reasons.
>>
>>6286808
Just checking if I got this right. You want to split into two teams: one going to Sulfur Gulch, and the other going to the town/Free City you saw in the previous thread? Which (or both? Neither?) of the teams are grabbing the loot from the invasion, and you wanted to do scouting on the way?
>>
>>6286945
Then to be sure I understand everything as well. We are at Sulfur Gulch which is a place with a town. We are encumbered with all the gear with us and will not have a way to carry much more. Correct?

I wanted us as new people to the area to gather info. One will check out the town to ask somethings and see about a few things. Mainly a place to store our gear safely or a place to look for setting up a camp. Since I assume with >>6285063 asking about a safe place. We will need to move items to somewhere not at the invasion site.

Another team will start exploring our path to the invasion site. Since we don't know anything around and if our path to the invasion is safe. With time being limited the split up is to allow us to make sure of no surprises on moving up and with luck find a place to build up. I did hope to find a site with support we can use or hire near by. Like this Sulfur Gulch town with the air support talked about before.

Once we have a place to safely unload I was gonna have the team. Split up to have guards for our gear and build up if things seemed good for it. The other team would have went to gather the loot and bring it back. If we find a better place on the way to the invasion site as a location for the supply depot we would have move things to there.

Now if there is no worry about our enemy coming back to the invasion site. It could be better for us to bring the building kit over and set up there. Since we have people there watching over and would need to use less fuel moving around.

As I go over orders again I did see the "Team 4 is told they can rush over to find, sort, and bury or guard the the enemy "base camp" or "supply dump"." Then we were given just after orders to Maximize the replenishment of wealth and supplies. Secure the undefended wealth and supplies of enemies. Arrange for a strategic location for a large supply "landing site" (Cross Timeline) to be built. Which I am sorry that it took me until we deployed here to get we are team 4.

Still I took the orders as main goal find a place safe to bring things to. So we can secure the loot and set up a landing site. Mainly because of the question asked here >>6285063 "Where do you think the site could be so it's secure and ours?" Now if in instead it is view a higher need of a relief team for y'all on the invasion site. I wish command said can rush over as needs to rush over or let us know the supplies were secondary. Because I am planning to be bob the builder here. So y'all had a location to go to and now I would have like command to send this gear in later. Once we had a place to do a propper landing site. Now we are wasting flue and could have bought more snack or something for y'all.

So if that is the case and all is safe to rush over. Then yeah we can just rush over and with luck we will find some light souvenirs for ya.
>>
>>6287003
Assuming anyone doesn't disagree, I think that is 4d20?
>>
>>6287003
Also you still have your Jeep, so I that might mean you don't need to unload your kits and your rucksacks.
>>
>>6287003
(Perfect, thanks for the clarification!)
As long as you guys have the Jeep, you should be able to move the stuff you currently have with you. Encumbrance will be an issue during battle - unfortunately, we looked at the TFV fighting load and it’s too heavy… A few of Team 2/3 are trying to figure out how to get back under the limit, but for now you’re still going to be slowed down in combat.

You should be looking for a place to set up a camp for us (ideas include Sulfur Gulch, the invasion site, your old site, Laramie, or maybe even the Tsarina’s compound in Nebraska since she imports so much stuff.) You won’t have to store gear while you’re surveying though. You don’t necessarily have to move items far from the invasion site, just figure out how to put them in a place where people not us won’t take them (loot includes 4 M113 vehicles with broken tracks and about 90% of the gear from a light infantry platoon.)

The path to the invasion site should be basically clear unless you get a random encounter, in which case having the whole party there will probably help.

There’s currently no indication that the enemy will come back… They might try a second assault, but we should have some warning again, and it won’t necessarily be in the same spot. Even if it is, having more solid defenses will help.

All good! Team naming is a bit confusing… apparently my main group is Team 2, and the other group is Team 3, and Team 1 doesn’t exist… the Team 4 name is perfect for 4chan though!

Yeah, I’m seeing the orders as establishing a safe place for loot and setting up a more permanent landing site. I think loot/relief is the most urgent thing, since Teams 2 and 3 (and Daredevil) are currently guarding the site, but we’re not really equipped to secure the area too much…

Maybe I was taking the encumbent a little too hard. If that's what you're saying. I was thinking that we'll be moving slow and more prone to being taken out during travel with the weight.

If there's no back and forth with the safe location question earlier. Yeah it's good to go in making sure the path ahead is safe and there's nothing note from town. Or rushing ahead if that was the intended mission from command. Which I think it's still good to have people Scout ahead if the vehicle is moving slow.
>>
>>6287185
Dam if I can use that info in game. I have the Mechanics kit and scrap to try and fix those vehicles. Unless yall have attempted to do so already.

Yeah with the new info get to yall and recover/set up something. Assuming no one else has a goal they want to do real quick. I don't want to force the party unless it is needed for tie breaks or something in voting of a plan.

The Jeep drives down a main highway and then cuts off onto some smaller roads, then dirt roads, then no roads.

Using their compass, landmarks, three kinds of map that aren't so good, and a GPS that half works because the satellites still technically are upp...

The party has located the 10 by 10 mile area. They have located the wrecked, tracked M113s.

The party would've had two more hours to look around, and I need to roll for the NPCs as well.

Rolled 16, 3, 20 = 39 (3d20)

Expedition Team 4 locates a heavily trampled area, complete with boot marks, folded up mountain bike marks, vehicle tracks, and a still smoking device that likely was the beacon.

A small group came by and was scared of. Could've been bandits, a freebooter and some cultures, some isolated survivalists, or even just curious farmers.

You find about a hundred rucksacks, Medium ALICE mostly, confined and partially hidden or even buried within a quarter mile area.
>>
There may or may not be SLEEPING MAT, SELF-INFLATING, OD GREENs present. It doesn't matter either way.

Jack is fresh from completely Air Force basic training, and they don't cover marching and hiking as much.... But he was giving a "crash course" on that because of the requests of his superiors.

If he remembers correctly, the web gear belt, vest, and harness carries just stuff needed to fight. The Buttpack behind them is for items they might need to throw on if it starts raining or there is a cold snap.

But the Rucksack.... That should be "Sustainment". There should be a tent or a shelter half, poncho, cleanliness supplies, more rations, maybe some water or water filtration supplies, batteries, a spare BDU, and anything needed to survive in the field.

These rucksacks have food, water, ammunition, and sometimes grenades.

There are a few volleyball sized compression bags dropped, laid on the ground, attached to a rucksack, and so on. Within them is the "Jungle Bag" the hot or cool weather sleeping bag, and sometimes a "bivy tent".

A lot of this stuff was hidden, but it could be found and it's all clustered not too far apart.

If it was moved together it would be easier to guard, but spread out it would be easier to hide.

Jack can sense something is very odd about these rucksacks. Something about the enemy.

There are reports that their gear and tactics indicate they are mentally unstable or less by such people, or they might be rough and tumble enough to be innovating.

You notice something different about the rucksacks actually.

What kind of time like did these people come from?
>>
What the fuck is this? It's labeled "Cart, Heavy Individual Load".

You find dozens of these. They appear to come with mechanisms to attach them to the folding bikes, or to a belt and suspenders.

Not only do they deploy with bikes, but now carts? Why no vehicles or ATVs?

They brought heavy tracked vehicles, so weight shouldn't have been a concern.

Take it as a yes, because my first answer is was what writing. I'll likely take a ten or 20 depending on the damage, time we can spend on it and how long taking a 10 or 20 takes.

>>6287802
I've honestly gone over what you're trying to do a few times and I'm only mostly sure what you did in that 4 hour period.

I'm just going to say that what order things happened, doesn't entirely matter.

>>6279996
Glad I made you your character sheet!

That last class ability is being patched. Right now you use 80% as much materials as other people when doing Repairs.
-----
-----
Okay so you have a +10 to Repair. So you need a DC-15 and ten minutes to fix a set of tracks or a part of an Engine and a DC-20 (1 hour) to fix an engine. If you manage to fix an Engine, I'll assume you can fix the Tracks at the same time.

You have lots of Supplies and 6 units of Parts (About 30 lbs). I'm going to say it's 1 Part to fix a track or part of an Engine and 2 to fix an engine.

There are four M113s. All had their tracks get damaged or pop off. Two need a partial repair to the engine and 2 need a full repair.
>>
>>6287917
Alright then once we greet everyone and let people know about the items found nearby and how we had to scare some people off. I'll get to work on the ones I have enough parts for. Which will get us two working m113s to move around. I'll save to 2 other parts for later and as back ups if things fail.

I hope cap can organize people be it drills, patrols or what not, assuming those haven't been done. If 'godmother' is up to it, now would likely be a great time to do supply work and let us know what is needed at the invasion site.

After I'm done with repairs I will survey the invasion area and ask what insights people around my have about the area. If we have water or can make a well if there is no sources nearby that would be one main problem dealt with. Next bit of info would be how the area is laid out. Hilly, trees, random big rocks, and what not. Free cover would be nice to speed building up.

I got to mess with m113s in a game called Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance. It makes me worried people will get sniped out for the gunner spot. Yet it is still good to have them.

I did math wrong, it's two parts for two of them and three for one so.... Three of them were fixed.
>>
(Updates from the other team!)

>>6288030
Expedition Team 2 came by and looked over some of the gear left behind. While Jack, Godmother, and Cpt. Grand were busy with other things (maybe repairing the other two vehicles), the guy called Nathan did [i]something[/i] to the third vehicle and helped get it back up and running, though the fourth M113 is still out.

The fourth M113 was actually mostly disassembled - add two units of mechanical parts, one unit of electrical parts, and 3 large aluminum slabs to the materials available to Team 4.

>>6287495
A command laptop was discovered, complete with floppy disks, and ‘Nathan’ spent a shockingly short amount of time decrypting one of the disks. Kendra and another Team 2 member ‘Anthea’ went over what they found on the laptop, trying to figure out the enemy’s motivations and doctrine. While they were working on that, Nathan organized a team to go on a small Zerg hunt, talking about a part he needed for something. The team went out with a few “bug motel” devices and some heavy arms. They came back - a little shaken up but unharmed - with a usable bug corpse and a story about too many bugs jumping out of the power lines.
(Team 4 would’ve gotten an explanation that bug motels are devices built to lure in Zergs, contain them, and then explode when triggered and/or when full of energy-form bugs.)
——
In between events happening, Kendra comes over to chat with Team 4. “Hey guys, how’s it going? It looks like you’ve been busy, you didn’t get caught in the invasion force fighting I hope? We’ve established a prison camp for the captives, though there’s a perimeter around it and I’d ask you not to attempt communicating with them. A professional interrogator went insane while questioning one of them, and I’d rather you not put yourselves at risk until we have a better idea of what’s happening and how to prevent or cure it.
“Going through their command laptop will be much less dangerous, if any of you are so inclined to help us figure out their motivations and politics. And please. If you want to help on the analysis, you’ve already got the report with a foreword by our sort of supervisor(>>6287495) and I’ll provide anything else we find, we could definitely use the help.

“Captain Grand, if you don’t mind showing our sniper Mongoose the smoking area, I think you two might have a lot in common.”

“Oh right, and Nathan had a message for you all. He heard about a large bug motel being built, and asked you check on that and make it happen. ‘Should help out a lot with the bugs.’ He also said let him know if you need stuff to finish it.
“To be clear, this is his personal request and doesn’t take precedence over your orders, but if you find something out then definitely feel free to pursue it.”
>>
>>6288651
I can give the bug motel a check. I will want to know if this place is worth sticking around or not after that.

Are you asking whether it’s worth it as far as feasibility, or my opinion on setting up a base at this location? (Also, glad to hear from you!)

Setting up here would probably be convenient. We’ve got the start of a base, it’s decently close to some other interesting locations without encroaching on their territory. We’ve also got a good amount of prisoners and other equipment here that would be a pain to move.

As far as my opinion… Honestly, you and Team 4 are the ones building the base, so it’s your call where you put it. There might be some better places but… this one’s here, and you’d be responsible for organizing scouting parties to find alternate locations if you don’t want to build this up.

My opinion? There’s enough going for this location that any base here is going to be worth something, no matter if you change your mind later. The alternative non-wilderness locations are still technically independent and may not be willing to let us have full access (Sulfur Gulch, NORAD, Laramie), and the Tzarina’s compound is too communist for Cpt. Grand.

I’m not sure if there’s anything else you’d like to factor in. We can also ask the strategic TOSSUP system if this place is logistically sound, if you’re worried about that.
>>
>>6290114
>Are you asking whether it’s worth it as far as feasibility, or my opinion on setting up a base at this location?
Both since we are in this together.

Good to know about the start of building going on. The locations are a plus if they got resources we need or can use. The prisoners have me worried since moving them can be its own trouble.

>There’s enough going for this location that any base here is going to be worth something, no matter if you change your mind later.
After what you are said that is the feeling I was getting. Perhaps we'll be going around making a bunch of outpost.

>logistically sound
Yeah that was my biggest worry. If we need to get excess supplies that would add to the upkeep. Water is a big item we for many things. Then it is just how defensible the area will be.

If the captain becomes more active again we could definitely use them for scouting and leading fights. Yet for now this area will hopefully work until another place worth while shows up. It just depends on some basic resource needs. Like wood, water, and the like.

>>6290114
Anything else of note? I got the parts written down from the break down.
>>
>>6288651
Cpt. Grand shrugs. "Sounds good to me. Come with me Mongoose, or whatever you're called."

>>6290114

Damn right it is, we may be fighting for our world but the thing I fight for is the United States of America.
Apologies for lack of posts, I'm pretty busy at the best of times.
>>
>>6290126
>start of building
It’s honestly not much, just a command post with a camouflaged medical dugout and a small jump pad next to it, about what we could get done in a day. It worked pretty well though.

>anything else of note
We’ve got a bunch of weapons and missiles left over from the invasion, teleporting them back will be a hassle. We were hoping you guys could do a more thorough assessment of the gear and motivations. I’d be curious to hear where you think they fall on the political cube in the document.

We also have 36 Daredevil operatives guarding the prisoners currently.

>logistics
@QM, can we get some analysis done using Nathan’s Tossup system on how logistically/strategically sound this place is for a main base?

>>6290146
Good to hear from ya
>>
>>6290584
Analysis says it is in the middle of two conflict zones which will require increased defenses and priority, but will be convenient as a forward operating base.

Location should be optionally close to as many back roads as possible, along with rivers, but still have room to grow.

Closer to Nebraska would allow easier access to buying food, if the plan is to not ship it in. Current location is middle of Independence Station and Sulfur Gulch.

It depends on what the priority is and what the desire is to be close to.

In terms of running stills and having fuel, closer to forests is better.
>>
>>6290922
I think it's a good enough spot. Spend some time setting up defenses and traps and we'll have a good enough FOB going. Should get a small dock going too in case we really do have to book it in a hurry.

>>
>>6291572
I am not sure of your full skills, but if you are good with supplies. We can likely use someone to help organizing the location setup for upkeep cost. Also making sure we have the supplies needed for the full build. I am not sure if the loot has been accounted yet. I would be bad if the POWs got something to use on us.

>>6290922
The rivers are good. Yet we likely need to keep the cost down. Do we know how far we are from woods? I assume the stills are our main money maker. So we can deal with the food with that.

If it is info searching I could have ended up miss typing the info I was looking for or someone imputed the info wrong. Spilled my drink and had to dry out the paper work. Many of things could happen like almost breaking my leg again.

>>
At or nearby the site of the the previous "Talk"/HQ tent and the medical tent (A few miles or further if things are moved by vehicle), both are setup. They are 8 person tents with cots, camp furniture, coolers, lights, and the like... With the smallest size of generator and a battery bank.

Near this site there, at a clearing of sorts, there is a large area that is arranged for a large incoming "drop" or tens of thousands of dollars worth of supplies. These supplies will come in a few weeks or so. In addition, temporary barracks, mess, and other structures will be constructed.

There might also be a warehouse with a sorting and docking station, and a "launch" pad to other dimensions.

There is usage of bricks, quick cement, concrete, dry and painted wood, reinforced tent material, ground sheets, and the like.

The site will be a mid point between Independence Station and Sulfur Gulch.

Nearby there is the construction of a field hospital, part of which will be secured enough to house and monitor the Prisoners of War.
>>
>>6294696
Successfully the power tools and supplies, the generators and materials, have been moved into the site. The construction experts, prisoners, and other laborers can get to work.
-
-
Now, Expedition Team 4 is free to do recon (A), sort through and store the enemy rucksacks, along with their bikes and the remains of a possible supply depot (B), or C some other things.
-
-
The area is a bumpy, hilly and mountainous, wooded, forested area that is brown dominant.

Population in the area increases towards Independence Station and at the outskirts is hidden helmets or single farms or bunkers.

Climate type is same general type as central Colorado.

It's easy enough to collect ruffage for mash for the stills if there is any need. Water supplies are steady.

It freezes at night and sometimes it snows. Wind is mostly okay but might get bad.

Structures are or will be partially buried to protect them, with runoff ditches and things like that.
>>
Jack passed two rolls related to construction and failed a knowledge so badly he has no idea which knowledge it was.
>>
>>6294700
I believe cap wanted to do some scouting. If godmother can help with supplies that would be good. I'll see about getting defenses set up. If there are hills right near the base I would like to see about setting up over watch platforms. If we still have the gun from the broken down the M3113. It would be great to set it up at a place with good angles of fire. Like have covering an open field or the like.
>>
Cap can lead a squad of partisans to do recon. That would be his natural Perception bonus, with advantage because he's being helped.

The size of recon depends on how detail his recon is and how well he rolls.

For Godmother, I forgot if you ever choose your stats or spent your skill points. Id presume you spend half on the two skills that boost Bureaucracy rolls.

So plus 4, plus these bonuses if they apply.

I Have The Forms, 1st level:
You have the ability to requisition any item available to your branch of your Armed Forces. You roll Deception or Persuasion with a +2, and if you overcome the DC, you get the item/items.
You can also requisition a supply of any major currency issued in The Americas (You get an amount matching your roll), but you have to account what you spend it on or fake the paperwork.
And All the Batteries Ended Up Where, 3rd level: You roll +5 on any roll to find something off the street, inside a depot, or via a black market, while getting +5 to Knowledge checks on price.
You can also convince an officer to requisition something for you and provide them the finished paperwork. If you get 5 over the DC for the requisition, it is airdropped for you.

Generally the idea is to not pick one or two that totally don't fit what you have in mind for play style.

>Do you have a main ability scores? Is also a little confusing when it's the same answers as above.
It's asking which one is more important, if there is two.

For the Mouthpiece, it's generally Persuasion and Insight. For Paramilitary it's Athletics and Stealth.

Oh right, I was supposed to check in on this.

So. About eight hours after my last reply, I was informed of the death of a close relative.
I barely managed to close out the ongoing thread of my quest, and left with a message I should have it done on the weekend. Last weekend. As of today it has been a week since I wrote anything, and two days since I started a new full-time position.
So yes, things did go bad.

Another reason for the delay is that I have had a hard time figuring out just what is going on. I can roll with the punches and make logical deductions, but I did feel strained as time went on. I feel like this requires both TTRPG experience, and a knock for gorging on handbooks, as well as the autism to do so properly, which I simply do no possess. I barely understand what is going on, do not have a character sheet, and overall feel lost and out of my depth both in and out of character.
I'm sorry to say I understand why so many players quit last thread.
But Harper wouldn't have come if he didn't want to help, and he woudln't be staying if he did not want to help. And he did get where he is in life by being more stubborn than everyone else and doing things, including paperwork, per the book and regulations.
So here I go again.

Deception perhaps? Insight? One of the other knowledges? Take a previous knowledge a second time?

The first roll you need to do is technically bartering or Persuasion (Gather Information) [An old skill that got rolled into Persuasion. It was for people who would go to bars and listen for rumors to learn things.

If you all want a reference character sheet, it’s basically the DnD 5e sheet with slightly adjusted skills and a different level-up allocation.

Available skills: Acrobatics, *Animal Handling, Arcana, Athletics, Computer Use, *Craft [Art/Chemical/Electronics/Mechanical/Structural/Writing], Deception, *Demolitions, *Disable Device, *Drive, History, Insight, Intimidation, Investigation, *Knowledge [Streetwise, Tactics, Technology, others], Medicine, Nature, Perception, *Performance (aka Disguise), Persuasion, Religion, Sleight of Hand, Stealth, *Survival, *Streetsmarts (Knowledge[Streetwise] except with Wis instead of Int)

You all took ‘expert’ classes so you get 5 skill points, a ‘combat’ class would get 3.

*Marked skills are half-off: Knowledge [Any Subject], Demolitions, Disable Device, Animal Handling, Drive, Performance, Survival, Streetsmarts, Craft [Any Subject]

I’ll restate all the location features and equipment we have so far, because it’s been long enough that I’ve forgotten and some is in the old thread.

>Current location features:
HQ tent and medical tent. They are 8 person tents with cots, camp furniture, coolers, lights, and the like, with the smallest size of generator and a battery bank.

At a clearing of sorts, there is a large area that is arranged for a large incoming "drop" of tens of thousands of dollars worth of supplies.

There is a field hospital nearby, part of which is secured to house and monitor the POWs.

Power tools and supplies, the generators and materials, have been moved into the site.

>If anyone feels inclined, you can roll Knowledge[Tactics] to make a nice camp layout, or let it default to what it is now

>Godmother will need to roll Bureaucracy to requisition any non-prisoner laborers and/or construction experts

>Jack, if you want to help with constructing any buildings, please roll Craft[Structural] and/or Craft[Mechanical]

>Cpt. Grand is pending stat determination for his scouting expedition.

What QM said. Pick 1-2 that go with your idea for your character (is he Smart? Wise? Dextrous/quick? Strong? Sturdy? Charming?) and we can adjust from there.

The two most important skills for your class = what your class is best at. The full list is included at the top of this post in case you want to pick manually. I think you’ll determine a class through the stats you pick, plus the answer to the second question.

I assume we can always use more materials for the build. The new kit I got was said to come with some for building supplies.

>>6285637
>building supplies (cement and drywall mix, lumber, glass, and so on as needed)

>>6300750
Craft[Mechanical] +6

Then I if I understand my sheet correctly. I am trained in tactics so the +3 to all Knowledges to roll is +7 (+2 Intelligence, +3 to all Knowledges, +2 for training)

I just remember the solar panel I got. It would be good to se that up if I hadn't yet, free power is always good. Now I will roll 2 dice first the craft and the second it tactics.

Rolled 8, 18 = 26 (2d20)

>>Any other skills?
Taking a skill most people can't get is very tempting, so we'll go with Knowledge (Bureaucracy) for now. It makes sense with Godmother's back ground, and I can invest in more "exciting" stuff as he gets actual experience in the field.

>The first roll you need to do is technically bartering or Persuasion (Gather Information) [An old skill that got rolled into Persuasion. It was for people who would go to bars and listen for rumors to learn things.
I'm not sure if that's one roll or two separate ones, but I choose to interpret this one as gathering intel on what good deals we could leverage or favors with the locals now that we're settled in.

>>6300750
At first I was going to roll for the camp layout, but then I realized that since I picked double bureaucracy, we would be better served by me getting us some experts.
Am I working the locals over or is it filling paperwork for stateside bureaucracy outlining our needs?

So, rolling 2d20.
First is Gather Information (presumably on deals and business opportunities)
Second is Bureaucracy, focused on getting access to construction experts to help with the camp layout. Getting us started on builidng would be a secondary concern for now, it can wait for the next "turn", or however this is calculated.
>>
>>6301567
Well, Godmother may not be the best at rumor gathering, but he Knows A Guy, or three, apparently!
>>
I'm going to give you a little XP boost for understanding the system and helping me keep track of your bonuses.
>>6301539
You have a partial success and a moderate success.

The contruction is going relatively smoothly and you have a good layout that will prevent drainage issues, freezing, cables not able to run from building to building, fires spreading too quickly, and other things.

Jack has corrected slightly the layout, but mostly he's like just another set of hands or management for the construction. The engineers and former contractors are being more useful currently.

I would describe this more or have you do it, but I really want to speed up play.

I just checked my notes and Kendra's, and all the structures will be done in about a day or two thanks to you.
>>
Your interpretation is correct.
>>6301567
Godmother was able to get a 8+4+5 for finding good deals. I rolled on the side for your apraisal and after your bonuses it's a 11 to 13, so let's say average understanding.

You have a moderate success to find good deals.

Due to getting a 25, you overloaded the DC by 10 and thus you have a critical success.

Godmother knows people, personally, who owe him favors or are personal friends of his. Not only that, but they have good enough clearance or psych results to be let into the program.

You are also given access to additional prisonor labor captured from other dimensions, if it can be managed.

In addition, going forward, you can easily get small amounts of material or barter that are captured or surplus; provided you spend them on contruction.
>>
Kendra reminded me that everything is really slow in the winter, however, the extra construction people and labors cancels this out.
>>
I don't entirely understand the recon stuff done by the Captain.
>>
Kendra player talked to me and I'm deciding that the Captains actions result in this, but over the forested biome that isn't that big.

It requires regular patrols and drawing on maps notes.
>>
Seems like the base is done and you all have advantage on defending that area, great job!

Anything you’d like to do next? Reinforcing the base, hunting bugs/zombies… My personal suggestion is to try and do some networking to build alliances (military? Trade?) with other cities, but it’s certainly up to you lot!

>>6301569
You certainly do know a guy! It leaves me wondering what sort of people are personal friends of Godmother or who owe him favors…
