Welcome back.

Rules are simple: Votes are tallied every hour, with whatever course of action being the most popular being the course of action taken. Write ins are encouraged and non-mutually exclusive votes will be combined if possible.

When a roll is called for, roll however many D100 are specified. 5- is a 'crit fail' and generally means something bad is about to happen. 95+ is a 'crit success' and generally means something good just happened. a 'crit success' trumps a crit fail. User input on both will be taken into consideration.

Once per thread, if three or more people invoke it, a single roll may be re-rolled.

For a short summary for the new and to recap:

You are Alex. A newly minted trainer and camping enthusiast just starting out on your journey at the age of seventeen after your father lost his job in order to help pay the bills. On the road, you met Fie, the Fire Gym Leader, Gareth a novice Aura Guardian on pilgrimage and Holly, a runaway heiress using a pseudonym. You've also made enemies of Team Green a group of violent, radical activists looking to abolish pokemon training.

Recently, Fie returned to her gym for the time being.

Last thread, an inopportune Nat 1 prompted you to return to your hometown in order to find Latias after some rich bastard tried to steal her, wrecked your house and injured Kay O-o in the process. After punching him into next week, you spent the night with Jacky's family and secured a seventh 'Companion' slot on your team so you could keep Latias with you at all times. You also agreed to do some survey work for Professor Conifer and were just discussing your reward...

"...Hm." You say intelligently. "I'd actually be fine with either." You admit.

On the one hand, it's hard to pass up a Master Ball.

On the other hand, the opportunity to travel abroad doesn't come up every day, simply because it's damn expensive. Well outside of the scope of what you could afford, even before your dad lost his job.

So the opportunity to travel in exchange for doing this survey work is certainly tempting.

"What do you think, Holly?" You ask, looking to her, making her jump, apparently pulling her from her own thoughts.

"Well... That sounds nice as well..." She says slowly. "...I'm going to have to think on it." She says after another moment's silence. "Is that okay?" She asks the professor, a little hesitantly.

"Of course." He confirms with a nod. "I'd prefer if I got an answer sooner rather than later of course, but I'm not going to begrudge giving you a week or two to think it over." He assures.

"For the part of me and my friends, we'll take the Master Balls." Martha says, before giving Gareth an apologetic look.

"It's fine." He assures. "I'm not going to force you to abide by what I believe." He adds. "It's not even an Aura Guardian thing, more of a... personal conviction." He explains.

With that, you leave the lab, heading back out into the rain and hurrying on towards Greenshoot's Gym.

When you reach the gym, Daniel's just opening up.

He gives you all a startled look as you pile in out of the breath, Holly panting and out of breath while the rest of you breathe deeply and evenly and brush the rain off yourself.

"Alex, last I heard you'd left town." Daniel says to you conversationally.

"I had." You reply. "It wasn't until I was three hours down the road I actually found out this was a pokemon gym. From your sister." You reply.

Daniel grins.

He takes more after his dad than Fie or his mother, with the same broad shoulders and solid build and brown hair, but he actually looks more athletic than his father and more open and friendly.

"I heard about that." He admits. "Still, you're here now, so you looking to go for your third badge?" He asks, then stops himself. "Actually, first thing's first - heard about that Latias of yours. You found her yet?" He asks, growing serious for a moment.

You nod in confirmation.

"Yes, she's safe. And the shitheel who tried to steal her ought to be in lock up by now." You add surprising yourself at just how cold you sound as you say it.

Daniel nods sagely.

"Good. Glad to hear it." He assures. "Don't go stressing about your house though." He advises. "We'll look after you guys." He adds seriously, gesturing broadly to the town at large.

You smile and nod.

Greenshoot Town is a fairly close-knit community. You wouldn't expect anything less. There're plenty of times you've jumped in to help other people in town along with your mother and father.

"This really shouldn't come as much of a surprise that you two know each other." Martha admits, bemused. "Somehow, it does though."

Daniel just chuckles, then sobers.

"Anyway, seems like you're all warmed up from your run here, so let's get started, shall we? You want in, Martha?" He asks.

"Sure thing." Martha says, giving him a thumbs up.

"Oh right, Fitness is your pre-challenge test." You recall.

"Yep and knowing you, I don't expect you'll have much trouble." Daniel says. "Although... what's up with your arm?"

"Got burned teaching campfire safety at your sister's gym when some dumb kid decided he knew better than I did." You explain.

"Ah." He nods. "What about you, Martha?" He asks.

"Broke it on the Silveridge Track thanks to a rock slide from a Golem." She explains.

Another nod.

"Right... that changes things a little." He says thoughtfully.

"Well for what it's worth..." You begin before outlining your recent morning routine for him.

He nods in understanding, listening intently before questioning Martha a little on what sort of exercises she's been up to lately.

"Alright then. Bike work." He says. "I want five minute's worth of thirty second intervals." He instructs.

It's an effort to suppress a wince.

You've got good endurance, but you much rather walking than bike riding and while you one hundred percent do not skip leg day, by any stretch of the imagination, you are not looking forward to this.

Martha brightens considerably.

Even knowing she's already beaten Daniel, you get the sense that she enjoys working out at the gym and was expecting this to be a struggle owing to her arm.

You leave Daniel to start grilling Holly and Gareth next as you go to the bikes and get started.

(Part 1)
>>
>>6290754

It starts out easy enough, but as you expected, the longer you pedal, the more your calves begin to cramp up and by the time the three minute mark comes and goes, you're really starting to feel the burn, but you manage to push through and finish the five minutes, though your calves are on fire when you finish.

"Good. Good work." Daniel says, giving you a thumbs up as you both climb off the bikes and start warming down as Holly and Gareth both go through some basic exercises under his supervision.

He's not pushing them, by any stretch of the imagination, but while you've been doing some work with Holly, it's obvious that she's struggling.

She's sticking with it though and she manages to complete the exercise sets Daniel asks, but afterwards, she's exhausted.

"Alright, take a quick water break and we'll move onto the next stage." He says, giving Holly and Gareth nods as they pick themselves up.

The water is a welcome relief and when you're done, Daniel claps his hands and looks to the three of you expectantly.

"Okay, come on through." He says, before indicating through to the gymnasium attached to the gym.

It's nothing really to write home about and you find yourself wondering how the hell the gym has never been closed for repairs with how *intense* some of the battles you've seen previously have been.

Then Daniel goes to a side door and beckons you over.

In the adjoining anteroom is a PC.

"Okay, select the three pokemon that you've trained the least." He says.

>Uh...
>Oh, that's how you've kept repairs down.

Present Team:

Rascal (Braviary)
Fluffy (Eevee) (Everstone)
Rusty (Aron)
Nika (Riolu)
Piker (Feebas)
Volta (Luxray)

Companion slot: Latias

Out of Team:

Blitz (Growlithe)
Coolie (Applin)
Syurm (Leavvany)
Kay O-o (Hakamo-o) (Incapacitated 2 days)
Ayumi (Dratini)
Sage (Braixen) (Everstone)
Queenie (Ribombee)

So by my count, that's Coolie, Ayumi and Piker. Full team is so you can decide who to swap for who.

This doesn't take long, considering that without question, that's Ayumi, Piker and Applin.

You could make the argument for Nika, but she's still not quite old enough to be battling just yet, so you swap Rusty and Volta out before letting Gareth take his turn while Holly squirms in embarrassment as she releases her Feebas, Beauty, her Whiscash, Whiskers, and the Gardevoir whom elected to help her with her Psychic powers on South Crescent Island, Clytie.

When he's done, Gareth releases his Cutiefly, Rowlet and Feebas, giving Holly a faintly amused smile at her embarrassment.

"Okay..." Daniel says, taken aback. "This is new. How is it a Gardevoir is the pokemon you've trained the least?" He asks Holly.

She explains briefly, looking frankly embarrassed at the attention and the mismatch between her pokemon and yours.

"Ah, well that explains it." Daniel says when she's done, nodding. "No need to be so embarrassed, it's not like you're going to be battling your friends." He adds. "I'm going to have my work cut out for me, though." He adds wryly. "As for what you will be doing... doing some training with your pokemon. Pick two moves for each of them and we'll go from there." He adds before turning to you. "Before that though - your Applin. They don't really learn much. That only happens when they evolve. So, which sort of apple do you want to give it?"

>A Tart Apple (Flapple)
>A Sweet Apple (Appletun)

"I think I see how the gym is never closed for repair." You observe drily.

Daniel grins.

"Hey, fitness and training isn't just for people or really strong pokemon." He says reasonably.

"In any case, I think I'll give Coolie a Syrupy Apple." You say, more seriously.

Back at the lake, you were considering a Tart Apple so Coolie would evolve into a Flapple, but now, you've changed your mind.

Daniel nods, before disappearing to go and retrieve said apple.

This leaves you to think of moves for Piker and Ayumi to practice.

For Piker, it's easy - you were already practicing Water Pulse this morning and looking at your 'dex, Chilling Water sounds like a good second pick.

Abruptly, you realise that Euphrates has had less actual training than Piker, but you reason that that's likely to change sooner rather than later and even with that aside - Euphrates already has better move variety than Piker, so he could use the training more.

Ayumi meanwhile, already knows the two chief picks you'd want out of a Dratini, in the form of Dragon Rage and Thunder Wave. As to what follows those...

Protect is tempting, but at the same time Martha is right there to help with Aqua Tail and you've gotten pretty good at teaching Dragon Dance, so that's another natural pick.

And as for Coolie when he evolves? Dragon Breath and Dragon Tail. Both those moves have come in clutch for you before.

You briefly wish that Kay O-o was well so he could help demonstrate, but you dismiss the thought. He's more than pulled his weight up to this point and his injuries aside, he's earned a break.

You make a mental note to ask Daniel if you can spend some time after this finishing up teaching the rest of your team Protect after this, but otherwise, you're good.

When Daniel returns, he's got an apple dripping with honey which is your cue to release Coolie.

He all but jumps on the apple and gnaws his way inside, before Daniel unwraps a blue wrapped sweet.

Coolie snaps it out of his fingers and before your eyes, he glows, though curiously, the apple doesn't.

There's a flash and when the light settles, Coolie has evolved.

He doesn't look immediately different, but as he hops out of the box the apple was in, you notice he's developed a long horn and a tail with a pair of thagomisers.

"Alright, let's get to it..." He says, clapping his hands.

Under Daniel's direction, you spend the next hour or so teaching Piker, Ayumi and Coolie the moves you chose.

Piker actually doesn't take too long to finish up with Water Pulse, the move apparently 'clicking' for him after this morning's practice and it doesn't take him long learning Chilling Water either.

Then again, with how cold the rain his, he probably picked up what to do during your practice this morning.

Ayumi meanwhile seems to be suffering from stage fright.

She gets the basic idea of what you want fairly easily, but the execution she just *cannot* carry through on very well.

It gets to the point where Daniel suggests you give her a break and focus on Coolie instead.

Which is how you wind up spending most of the hour, helping him learn how to use Dragon Breath and Dragon Tail, both moves he takes to fairly well when he's not busy bouncing around like a Bunneary, full of energy from having just evolved and happy to be spending time with you at long last.

When at last, he's worn down some of his restless energy and you return to Ayumi, she's composed herself some more and with some encouragement from you, backed by direction from Daniel and an example from Martha's Dragonair, she finally gets the knack for both moves around the hour and a half mark.

(Part 2)
>>
>>6291185

In the meantime, Martha's been helping coach Holly and Gareth who both seem to have had somewhat different ideas to you for their Feebas:

Gareth went with Protect and Water Pulse for his, while Holly elected for Confuse Ray and Protect for hers.

A pair of moves Holly also elects to train with Clytie. Whiskers, she teaches Protect and Water Pulse, a decision that Daniel notes to her is smart, insofar as making it easier on her pokemon for them to learn from one anothers' mistakes and the example of yours.

For his other pokemon Gareth opts for Protect for both his Cutiefly and Rowlet as well, Fairy Wind for the former and Sucker Punch for the latter.

You feel a little proud of them for following your example and treating Protect as a 'standard' move for their teams.

"Phew... Good work." Daniel says as you congratulate your team for a job well done. "Now then, out of you three - who wants to battle first?" He asks.

>You go first.

"I'll go first." You reply in the brief silence that follows the question.

"Okay then." Daniel says, giving a thumbs up and disappearing for a minute before reappearing with one of the staff, whom assumes the judge's position.

"Rule's are simple - the challenger may switch, held items are allowed, trainer-used items are barred. The battle is three on three, the challenger must use the pokemon they have trained with this morning." The judge explains. "Any questions?"

You and Daniel are both silent.

"Begin!" The judge pronounces.

"Skwovet, you're in!" Daniel announces.

"Ayumi let's go, Dragon Rage!" You order.

"Fake Out."

Ayumi has no sooner began to glow than Skwovet has darted in and feinted, before sucker punching her, making her flinch and destroying her concentration.

"Let's try that again, Dragon Rage." You order.

"Quick Attack." Daniel orders.

Skwovet tags Ayumi again, before it's engulfed in a purple fireball in retaliation, knocking it clean out.

"Can't go making things too easy for you." Daniel says, before releasing a Jigglypuff in Skwovet's place, recalling the fainted Normal-type.

Jigglypuff gets its move off first, but it misses Ayumi by a wide margin, before it's jolted by the retaliatory Thunder Wave.

"Charm." Daniel counters, but it does him no good before Ayumi slams Jigglypuff back into the far wall with Aqua Tail, knocking it out cold in one shot. "Damn, looks like I'm really going to have to step up to give you a challenge." He says, selecting his last pokemon. "Go, Kangaskhan!"

As it settles, you can immediately tell this Kangaskhan is a lot better trained than Mike's is, though it's not as strong, if you were to guess.

Ayumi is just outside the yellow, if you were to guess, but you still have Piker and Coolie to work with and while Kangaskhan looks stronger than any one of them, between three pokemon, you're sure you can bring it down.

With that in mind...

"Dragon Rage." You order.

"Fake Out." Daniel counters.

That move is really annoying, you've got to admit.

Kangaskhan feints in a similar manner to Skwovet did, though instead of a sucker punch, she fakes a charge and turns it into a tail strike, throwing Ayumi off and breaking her focus.

"Try again, Dragon Rage." You order.

Daniel grins.

"Protect." He counters.

You can't say you like the taste of your own medicine.

"Dragon Rage!" You order, irritated now.

"Stomp." Daniel counters.

Kangaskhan bounds forwards and delivers a hard kick to Ayumi's gut, knocking her into the red and what's worse, causing her to lose flinch again and causing Dragon Rage to stutter, leaving her in a precarious position.

This just became tense.

This just became a shoot out and it's one that Ayumi is not in a good position to win without a whole lot of luck, or a lot of fuckery on yours and Ayumi's parts.

Update tomorrow, I'm bushed.

>>6295616

Thinking rationally, you can win this without Ayumi landing Dragon Rage.

Piker and Coolie between them could get it done.

But Ayumi can turn that possibility into a certainty.

Further, hindsight being what it is, you figure it would've been smarter to swap in Coolie instead of trying for Thunder Wave, in order to use your aggression up to that point as a smoke screen.

But, you committed to keeping Ayumi in. And now, while it'd probably be wiser to trying to land Thunder Wave again and switch on Kangaskhan's next Protect, you figure that you might as well commit to your bad decision.

"Dragon Rage!" You order, as Daniel goes to speak.

You're treated to the sight of his eyes going wide before he belatedly switches tacks as Ayumi glows with purple fire.

"Protect!" He orders, sounding shaken and completely off-guard at this turn of events.

Ayumi exhales and sends a roiling ball of indigo and yellow fire at Kangaskhan, which is neatly intercepted by another Protect barrier... before the barrier fails and Kangaskhan is bathed in the purple flames, sending its aura from emerald green, to dull yellow.

You grin.

"Great job, Ayumi." You praise. This battle's not over yet, but the initiative is now firmly back in your favour.

You have the momentum, but Ayumi's swaying and it's not enthusiasm, or a dance - it's exhaustion.

"Ayumi, come back." You say as you recall her, before switching in Piker. "You've got this, Piker." You encourage as you swap him in.

You're feeling pretty good right now. You don't think Daniel's about to pull any nonsense, but you're sure he's going to make you work for this win, even if you still have two fresh pokemon to his one battered Kangaskhan.

"Water Pulse." You order.

"Stomp, Kangaskhan." Daniel counters.

Kangaskhan moves first, stomping Piker flat into the court, before being blasted with water in response, leaving Kangaskhan teetering for a moment, before her aura turns grey and she collapses off Piker, who rights himself, his aura a bruised orange after the blow he took, but he's up. And you've won.

"Great job, Piker." You praise as Daniel recalls his Kangaskhan.

"Pretty good battle there, Alex." Daniel admits as you recall Piker for the time being and shake his hand. "Seems you got a bit over-enthusiastic with Dragon Rage though. What was that about?" He asks curiously. "Fie said you were a bit more circumspect most of the time."

A good explanation as any to why we've been using aggressive battle techniques, especially since we didn't focus on teaching our weaker mons protect when we usually do for everyone else.

"Well, Dragon Rage makes a pretty good hammer." You admit sheepishly, then sober. "I guess I'm still kind of shaken up over Latias." You add. "And those guys needed some teeth." You add. "I have been making the effort to teach all my pokemon Protect, but..." You gesture broadly. "These guys needed some teeth."

Daniel nods.

"Fair enough." He agrees.

You’ve known him long enough to know that he’s not going to push you on this, but this is a good opportunity…

"Do you have any advice?" You ask.

Daniel's usually full of good advice.

"Walk me through what you've been doing after I've battled these two and I'll see if you can't help." He says, then grins. "Or, just stick around until Jacky swings by later." He adds drolly. "I hear she's doing a training seminar." He adds, punching you in the arm.

You have the good grace to fidget.

"It's not like I'm looking for a competitive advantage." You say, defensively.

Daniel chuckles.

"Rules are rules." He says wryly. "Even if they are a royal pain sometimes." He adds.

You step out of the arena then and make way for Holly while Daniel sorts his team out.

Predictably, Holly leads with Clytie.

Not, you imagine, because she's Holly's strongest pokemon of the three she's trained today, but because she's never battled with Clytie and the purpose of this whole exercise has been training underused pokemon.

It just so happens that for Holly, that's her new Psychic tutor.

Predictably, even with good counter play from Daniel and some surprises like an Alolan Rattata and Grafaiai, it's a very short battle, though Rattata does actually force Holly to switch into Whiskers in order to get around the fact that Clytie doesn't actually know any moves that can harm Dark types yet.

(Part 1)
>>
>>6300422

Gareth and Daniel though - now there's an interesting match.

Daniel leads with a Pidgeotto against Gareth's Feebas, which while on the face of it seems like a lopsided match, but it actually works in Gareth's favour, as his Feebas is stronger than Pidgeotto and knocks it out cleanly in two hits across four rounds, intercepting two Aerial Aces with protect and battering it into submission with Water Pulse on the odd rounds, Daniel opting for damage up front.

A Deerling has Gareth switching in his Cutiefly, which leads to another interesting back and forth between the two, just going Deerling's way thanks to a Take Down, before Gareth's Rowlet takes Deerling out of the picture, leaving Daniel to opt for a Litleo to round out this last battle, which lasts only about as long as it takes for Gareth to swap his Feebas back in and land a Water Pulse, though this is an uncomfortably close occurence, given Feebas flinches on its first attempt owing to a Bite, allowing Litleo to wear Feebas down into the red before the Lion Cub pokemon drops.

In the aftermath, you give a sigh of relief as Gareth chuckles shakily as he shakes hands with Daniel, before the three of you help him clean up the gym before he picks three badges out of a bag on his hip.

"Here you go - Effort Badges. And if it weren't League rules, I'd have just given you these after you finished that training session, because by Arceus, you're putting effort into your teams." He says emphatically, as you each take your badges, slotting them into the applicable receptacles in your cases.

"I try." Gareth says modestly.

"Mm." Holly agrees with a nod.

A motion you mimic as Gareth's comment sums up your feelings just then nicely.

"So, how exactly have you been training your team, Alex?" Daniel asks, before listening attentively as you outline your morning routine, the exercises you've had your pokemon running for conditioning and the various creative ways you've found to teach moves and the occasional spars you've had with Gareth and Holly's teams.

Knowing how Daniel trains, you also outline what you've been feeding your teams and your other efforts with your team - reading with Latias, teaching Sage to read and your obedience lessons with Blitz, in addition to what you've observed of everyone's play habits.

Daniel makes a point of making sure people don't overdo it out in the main gym, so you don't need aura intuition to know he's going to be just as pointed with your pokemon.

When you're finished, he prompts Holly and Gareth for their routines, before nodding to himself.

(Part 2)
>>
>>6300429

"I'm not sure what sort of advice I could really give you." He admits thoughtfully. "Outside of the blatantly obvious, like bringing your less experienced pokemon up more and teaching them more moves, of course." He adds. "Maybe take turns training one anothers' pokemon, since new perspectives can be really helpful for training, but that's about it."

"That's not a bad idea..." Gareth admits thoughtfully.

You're broken out of your discussion by the door to the gym opening to admit Tom, Sarah and Jacky, accompanied by an Espeon, which seems to have been responsible for keeping the rain off them.

Along with Tom and Sarah are Jacky's two younger sisters, much to Tom's seeming annoyance, but he's old enough that he doesn't seem inclined to sulk too much, or to have done anything silly on the walk over.

"Hey, sorry to have kept you waiting." Jacky says apologetically as Sarah helps her open the gym doors, allowing egress for not just them, but a dozen or so other assorted kids from the local primary and secondary schools you recognise and a few more you don't, who you figure are out of towners who've come to challenge Daniel and either decided to stick around until the rain broke, or haven't gotten to him yet owing to the same.

"Not at all, Jacky." Daniel says, checking his watch. "You're right on time, as usual." He adds.

She smiles shyly as he steps to the side and you join the crowd, falling in beside your brother and sister, each cradling the pokemon you caught for them.

"Thank you all for coming." Jacky begins as she takes center stage as it were, addressing the gathered trainers, both out of towners and local. "Considering the frightful weather and a gap in my own schedule, I figured it'd be a good opportunity to hold a training seminar and share my experience." She explains. "For those of you who somehow might not know me - I am Jacqueline Fairburn, the Arnet League Champion." She prefaces, before smiling sheepishly as some of the people from the high school throw out some light ribbing at Jacky for her disappearing act and her 'new' position.

"Yes, well..." She begins awkwardly, then clears her throat. "To begin with..."

Jokes aside, curious about what's feasible on the list QM - and what's feasible "only now"
>>
>>6301008

So, Fluffy's actually *got* Cosmic Power and Body Press, but Toxic is absolutely doable right now.

And while exclusives moves are out, or anything that just flatly wouldn't make sense, like punch moves, the only other restriction would be moves with over 100 Power.
>>
Alright guys. I'll go for Power Trip which seems harder to come by than Toxic.
>>

>>6301015
Alright after some research into the moves of these mons, I think I'll go for teaching Rascal Brave Bird (I thought we had that on him, but a quick look at our previous battle using him and the google doc showed that I was misremembering).
Honestly I felt a bit torn here, since a part of me wants to see if we can teach something unusual to a mon that should be able to use it (like Fire Punch to Nika, or Power Trip to Eevee like the other anon suggested).

Honestly, Riolu not being able to learn Fire Punch strikes me as more of a balance thing than for any other reason, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Nika'll be able to learn it independent of this training session should people so choose.

Anyway, since a tie-breaker or other options don't seem to be forthcoming, guess I'll tiebreak.

There're a lot of bemused smiles around the gym.

Everyone who knows Jacky from school is expecting her to fumble, or get nervous, or go off on a tangent.

Instead, she does none of that.

She outlines the basic structure she uses for training sessions for her pokemon and how she goes about conditioning training, move practice and sparring, as well as more advanced concepts, like combinations, which she notes are more of a Contest concept, but one that can apply just as much to battling, if you put in the practice.

It's actually a very interesting lecture and you pick up a thing or two listening to Jacky's theory and make a note to explore move combinations later. Being able to squeeze in a Tackle or Water Gun during a switch doesn't sound like much, but from your experience, you get the distinct impression it could be decisive if used correctly and Jacky had maintained that that was the most basic form battle combinations took.

When the theory section of Jacky's seminar concludes, she moves on to a 'practical' section, which takes the form of her coaching people through training and offering her own thoughts on what everyone should focus on with the pokemon that they brought along.

For your part, it takes some thinking to come up with what you want to use this opportunity for.

You can't really do anything with Latias here, given all the attention she'd draw and there's any number of ways that Jacky's insight and help could benefit your team, but in the end, you manage to narrow down what you want to do to teaching Fluffy Power Trip.

You're very tempted to go with teaching Rascal Brave Bird, but all things considered, you figure Power Trip will be the more worthwhile investment.

For one thing - in combination with Latias having Baton Pass, Fluffy ought to get a lot of mileage out of it.

And more practically - in the normal run of things, Eevee and its evolutions can't learn Power Trip, so it'll be a handy ace for Fluffy to play should the situation call for it.

(Part 1)
>>
>>6302405

Jacky takes her time helping everyone before finally reaching your group.

"So, what do you guys have in mind for your pokemon?" She asks curiously.

"I'm thinking I'll teach Fluffy Power Trip." You reply.

"Ordinarily, I'd say that's kind of ambitious, but you've got the chops for it." Jacky admits.

"I was thinking I'd teach Checkers Moonblast, if I could." Holly says hopefully.

"And I was thinking Spikes for Druddigon." Gareth says, though he sounds thoughtful, as though he's second guessing his choice.

"Well, I can't say I can guarantee that they'll have those moves down by the time we're done, but I can help you get started training." Jacky assures. "But be warned - this'll probably be a process. Your pokemon probably aren't going to pick those moves up straight away." She adds, before giving Sarah and Tom a smile. "And how about you two?" She asks.

"I wanna teach Sobble Hydro Pump!" Tom declares cheerfully.

Jacky grimaces. "...Let's start off with something a little easier, first." She suggests. "How about Chilling Water?"

"Oh. Okay..." Tom says, sounding put out, but you doubt that his loss of enthusiasm is going to last when he sees what Jacky is suggesting.

"How about you, Sarah?" Jacky asks.

"I'm thinking I'll teach Red here Substitute." Sarah replies.

Jacky grins.

"Better watch yourself, Alex." She says. "Your sister just might take you by surprise." She adds.

Sarah shrugs modestly.

"I've been doing my reading." She says and you have to agree with Jacky's assessment.

If Sarah focused on training, she could probably give you a run for your money sooner rather than later, if she's already thinking on the utility of more less outright offensive moves like Substitute.

Granted, tangling with Team Green whenever you run into them has given your team an inordinate amount of experience compared to most rookie trainers, but that's getting into semantics.

With intentions stated, you start training under Jacky's guidance.

>>6302420

It's... actually not too different to your usual methodology for teaching moves, or from Daniel's method, for that matter.

The difference comes in Jacky taking the time to walk your pokemon through the steps the move entails, getting them to practice the motions and hold poses as well as correcting posture where Checkers, Sobble and Fluffy are concerned.

For Vulpix and Druddigon, things are a little different - posture is somewhat less important than ensuring they're channeling energy correctly, which she actually notes to Gareth is something that he should be able to pick up on and address thanks to his aura abilities.

An observation that takes both him and you aback when she mentions it.

"How did you know...?" Gareth begins.

"I've met a few Guardians around. I know a Guardian's uniform when I see it." She explains prosaically. "The Rangers might not take you guys seriously, but everyone in the League knows you're the real deal." She assures. "Anyway, in order to correct where channeling energy is concerned..." She begins, then releases an Aggron and has it use Iron Defense in order to show Gareth the difference in aura before directing him to share what he can see of Aggron with Druddigon.

"I... actually can't share my perception like that yet." Gareth admits sheepishly. "My abilities aren't that advanced yet." He explains.

"Well, you'll just have to do it the hard way like the rest of us, for now." Jacky says simply. "At the very least - you know what channeled Steel energy looks like." She adds. "Once Druddigon can manifest Steel energy, the rest of Spikes is more or less the same as Stealth Rock in concept, so he should get the hang of it easily from there, since that's a Move Druddigon can generally learn." She adds.

"Huh. Okay, thanks." Gareth says, impressed.

You make some progress, but as Jacky warned, none of your pokemon pick up the moves that you decided on by the time the seminar is over and the students from school start filtering out and the out of towners start to leave once Jacky excuses herself, citing the need to keep on moving due to other commitments.

There's no time for a private goodbye this time, but all things considered, it's been a productive day so far.

"You guys mind giving me a hand cleaning up?" Daniel asks, gesturing broadly to the gymnasium.

Muddy shoes aside, there's a fair bit of debris from the practice session that just occurred in here.

"Sure thing. Do you mind if we train a bit more afterward?" You ask.

"Train first, then you can help clean up." Daniel says. "No sense doing things twice. What have you got in mind?" He asks.

"Easy - I'm going to teach all my pokemon Protect that don't already know it." You explain.

Daniel chuckles.

"You picked a good day for it." He admits wryly as the rain on the roof goes from a low drone to a louder rumble.
