"Magnus" Lieren's voice rung out through the tower, melodic yet sorrowful. Magnus could feel and see the great turmoil and distress within their brother's psionic signal and immediately ceased the lesson he was giving to the young acolytes to speak privately with his fellow primarch, within the heavily warded and protected sanctuary of his private study.

Sitting beside preserved specimens of the organs and body parts of spirits and true daemons, the red king of Prospero projected his mind and great power into the vast seas of the warp, and soon found the astral avatar of his brother, sat with crossed legs as was the habit of Long Jianese men, with a pained and regretful expression, worry weighing down on his brow more than the cursed brand it bore.

"Brother" Magnus said gently, worringly, as he reached out to his brother "What is it that ails you so terribly?"

Lieren, weeping tears of boiling gold and frozen silver, bowed his head shamefully, regretfully, unable to look his brother and peer in the eye.

"A great weight, that I am unable to bear" he answered, as was his habit, vaguely and buried beneath poeticism

"What" Magnus hastened, speaking perhaps more sternly than he intend, as his great red hand wrapped around the silk covered shoulder of his brother, shaking him without meaning to as he remained limp and most concernly of all, defeated.

"A brother, whose name I do not know. He suffers, abused by the man who should've been a father and guardian to him, used as a figurehead and tool" Lieren hissed, with the same measure of venom and vitriol of which he spoke the dangerous denizens of the great sea, the entities he dubbed variably as evil spirits or daemons. Magnus' eyes widened and he felt his muscles tense as his blood ran cold.

"Like you had known Angron suffered under the yoke of the high riders" Magnus whispered as Lieren shook his head, nearly pitifully

"Oh wise Magnus, forgive me for keeping this tragedy from you. But I had believed i could intervene and protect this brother, as I had Angron, assist him in freeing himself from his abuse, aid him as a brother should, show him what family was meant to be and mean" his brother wailed and cried, tears now streaming from his face, catching in his scars and rising as snow white mist as he admitted ot what he imagined as a great crime "But, this damned brand upon my head, prevents me from doing so. So once again, I must dishonorably break my word, and shamefully ask you to face the danger I had intended to meet in my place"

Magnus' felt his expression soften as he knelt down, sharing with his brother the burden of the intense emotional turmoil he was experiencing and bowed his head, listening to him as he heartfeltly relayed to him their brother's plight and suffering as a ward of a heresiarch and the shadow of the most malevolent of warp denizen that fell upon him and his world.

And for every word of explanation and grief that passed Lieren's lip, the sorcerer lord of Prospero felt his rage growing deeper and more profound, testing even his composure and self control as he heard all his brother knew of their nameless brother's condition and suffering and the machinations of the dark powers that had hounded him that had now turned their wills and great powers towards their brother who had done naught to earn their ire nor attention. He felt himself at risk of psionically demolishing his own abode, and perhaps the city that surrounded it, from the sheer, white hot wrath he felt at hearing that one of his brothers, though unknown to him before now, was being abused and mistreated by a simple, superstitious man with ambitions far greater than himself.

"My blood is boiling Lieren with anger, you need not kowtow, scrape and beg me for assistance, give me a path and tell the Aeldari I WILL intercede and lend whatever aid I may to my brother, and I shall, with utmost haste. Stand, stand tall and proud, and give unto me the burden of this trial instead, we are brothers and you need not suffer alone. It is from no fault or weakness of your own that you cannot stand by his side, know this. And know that I will stand for both of us, when I travel and quest to lift from our abused brother's neck the collar and leash that has been so tightly fastened!"

"You speak too kindly to my brother. I shall do all I can to aid you in this journey. To earn some amount of meager redemption for being incapable of acting in your place, oh most sagacious and kindly Magnus!" Lieren declared loudly "Please, restrain your wroth and listen to the lesson I give, so you may be stronger in this most dire time, and better equipped to confront the greatest enemy, should they rear their misshapen and belligerent heads!

And what is the lesson you teach Magnus, Lieren?

>How to wield and harness the wind of Hysh, the white flame of purity and cleansing! The light that illuminates that which is secret, the blaze that heals and mends!

Seems fitting for a world of chaos worshippers. Although when Lorgar first met Magnus he had thought him a demon, as him and sanguinius were the first to greet him with his father. Hope he can clear that misunderstanding from happening

Hysh is obligatory, but anons make a good point about Night Crane being a good emergency tool. I think Magnus will pick up on Hysh naturally even if we split the lesson, so including it is a good idea.

Didn't Magnus already know about Lorgar? I think he was there when Eldrad told us he would only let us save one brother and we chose Angron. I guess we never told him the details?

Big Red more than likely has enough raw power. Maybe if we could have Kanzeon make special armor for him, that would help the most, but the transport issur remains.

We made a promise to Big E concerning the Daemonic and should not propagate this knowledge, even if Magnus is already informed.

Hysh should be fine, though. It might be better to shift Magnus' toolset to something more broadly usable.

Big E and Uncle Malcador would probably think so, even if Magnus already knows about the evils of chaos/ the warp due to watching Be'lakor whip Lieren's ass/ his alchemical studies and research
>>
"And what lesson do you intend to impart onto me, brother?" Magnus asks you as you compose yourself, reign in and leash your raging emotions, and focus your enmity and wroth to a razor fine spear tip

"The flame that mends, the very same that Guozhi lead me to, as he brought to you where Jian Qi hid away the secrets and mysteries of true alchemy" You tell him, nodding fervently as his eyes widen with amazement "Nothing less than the free wind of the Empyrean, the illuminating white light that purifies and cleanses as equally as it nurtures and heals. The White Flame. Hysh!"

"I'd sensed you'd gained a new power, but did not wish to interupt your grieving with pestering questions" He says, breathless as the two of you great men huddle together like boys who have found a bright and colorful lizard, as you, cusping it in the palms of both of your hands, show Magnus a flickering tongue of Hysh

"It is magnificent, brother" He says earnestly, voice rapt with awe as he kneels down and examines the wind that scours and burns away corruption, that can separate from mortal flesh the discordant spirit, that can reveal much more than any common torch or electrical light, that which may become a flame that mends and creates rather than destroy

"Is is not merely a saintly elixir, to ease suffering and alleviate pain, Magnus. It is also a weapon. When suitably channeled and form, it may become the flames of the pyre that burn away the essence of those most wicked of spirits. You...know that which I speak of, though through oath I cannot tell all I know" You tell him and Magnus clasps a red hand upon your shoulder and smiles knowingly

"I may know more than even you, Lieren" He says coyly "Though my methods and research are secret, even to our father"

"I do not fault you for your secrecy, he may react poorly, knowing how open you are to the changing of the great seas tides" You tell him "I know I need not instruct you much for you to learn how to wield and harness the winds of Hysh, so great is your wisdom and psionic potency, but I shall tell you all I know and all the ways it may be used, both kindly and violently"

"This is a kingly gift. But considering how you came to wield this light, as either a salve or a spear, I cannot accept it freely" Magnus, severely, explains, clasping his hands around yours, closing them "It is the last gift of your teacher, Guozhi who is said to have lived a thousand lives"

"And who taught me to philosophize and question the world and all I see" You fondly recollect "Who gave me support and grandfatherly kindness from the day I met him. But, brother, I cannot let you walk into the Panther's lair, without the poison that weakens their jaws and blunts their fangs and claws whilst tattering their unwholesome hides..."

"I am not refusing instruction. I am simply stating, brother, that I shall repay you in kind. A kingly gift exchange for one of equal value. Equivalent exchange" He explains with a wry fox's smile

"A gift I should've shared earlier. If you would have it. I know, despite being something of a mystic yourself that you do not practice alchemy" He continues, pulling his hands from yours "That is fair I feel, and will make us both safer from the predators of the deeper waters. We have always shared our knowledge and views, from the day we first met by happenstance"

"For to call it fate, would be to admit that we were both fools" You laugh, and Magnus throws his head back to guffaw

"I have grown someone tired of hearing that favorite refrain of yours, for all the truth it contains" He admits good heartedly "So what say you brother, shall I make you an alchemist as you make me a master of the white flame you call Hysh?"

What do you tell Magnus, Lieren?

>Simply that you already have learned so much from him and still have so much more to learn from him, to accept such a gift from him. And that teaching him of Hysh and its powers is just a partial repayment for what he has taught you.

>Accept it, and note that he seemed over enthused to learn alchemy and reclaim it from Jian Qi and ask if he had prior experience with practicing its incomplete form?

"Who am I too refuse such a brotherly gift?" You laugh, and pat your hand on his shoulder nodding before your expression sags as you ponder and present a question to Magnus "But, this enthusiasm of the alchemical arts, does recall to me the excitement you had to be taught the ancient methods via reclaiming and redeeming them from the foul clutches of Jian Qi. Which does make me wonder if you'd practiced the lesser, corrupt forms of alchemy prior to attaining its true state and form"

With a hint of shame or surprise, Magnus dips his chin in a humble nod

"I had attempted to teach and master alchemy without instruction, but it was as you called it, rudimentary. Lesser" he answers with a nod "And, I assure you, though the materials and catalysts were derived from Warp Energies and taken from warp entities, I was extremely cautious in my experiments and learned, through careful tests and rigorous studies, how to extract useful reagents from thoughtforms and spiritual bodies while removing the underling corruptive potential of the energies thus derived from the process"

"Fascinating" You admit with a nod "And i imagine your practice has only improved, now that you comprehended and wield the true wisdoms of alchemy"

"You are correct. The success rate of my alchemy trials has increased nearly ten fold since I've adopted the true methods and rations of alchemy" He answers with nearly smug smile "Though, I'm only as adept an alchemist as I am now, because I had experience with the degenerated form of alchemy I'd started experimenting with, prior to realizing it in all its entirety and complexity"

"I must admit, I do find some grim satisfaction to hear you've used slain evil spirits as ingredients in poultices and alchemical solutions" You admit with a giggling tilt, as Magnus nods along as you can sense Giggling Maid howling with laughter, teetering on the edge of a vast cliff, with feathers woven through her flowing wrought iron colored hair.

And to no surprise at all, Magnus lifts his head, eyes narrowed curiously as he asks you an unspoken question as he to senses the presence of The Giggling Maid.

"A passenger and constant companion of mine" You answer with a shrug "Wandering and playing some where far a field, I'd not risk either of us being distracted by her joyous presence, so introductions will have to wait"

But you could tell that Magnus understood your relationship with Giggling Maid and how the two of you were both one and the same and separate beings and could see within his chest be fanned a flame of inspiration. You are certain your ever joyful spirit will encounter your red skinned brother sooner rather than later, in your company or not

"Well, putting aside the apparent Avatar of yourself rippling the great sea" He says, speaking of her as if she was any other rambunctious and ill behaved child "let us begin our mutual lessons and exchange of knowledge, without further delay or distraction"
Cont
>>
>>6305211

"I have no arguments against it" You agree, nodding as you sit cross legged and with your hands upon your knees "Let us both become alchemists and wielders of the white flame"

"A poetic way of terming it, but let us share our gifts, given to us by the teacher we both tended to in his final hours" Your brother concurs and with a wave of his hand, brings into being a library of tombs, scrolls and scriptures, a replica of his own personal study in the physical world

"Take any record to begin with, you are man of intense passion and even stronger drive" He instructs, remaining seated meditatively as he waves his hand "I will assist you in your study, but, much as I will see how Hysh shapes itself in my own hand and power, I trust and know that you will form these initial and novice lessons of alchemy into your unique and utmostly efficent design"

"We know eachother to well, brother" You laugh

"You've the advantage of having eyes that discern the truth of all you bear witness to, Lieren" He says in jest, though that is the truth of the matter "And adaptation, that perhaps Hysh's aspect of illumination will allow me to ape to some degree"

"If you ever find yourself missing an eye, I have one spare" You snicker, as you slap your knee and stand "But enough joking, let us get to our studies without further delay"

And which book do you use as the foundation of your Alchemical practice, Lieren?

as damage to the colony ship releases warp radiation that results in warpstone, learning how to transform into something safe seems prudent. being able to use it afterwards is just efficient.

Would allow greater understanding of a very dangerous threat and allow us to nullify stuff like the Anathame.

Probably the most versatile, this is the Xianxia pill option.
>>
>>6306431
the medicines I flatly discount, can't be arsed with them. Xianxia theming is alright for flavour but I'm not treating 40k by cultivator rules.

almanac of spirits is interesting but just interesting. We kill spirits, I don't see any great desire to hunt them for reagents. And if we need something we can just ask magnus.

Toxins IS somewhat useful, and could aid the nameless in their purposes. However now consider that to handle such things invites questions, so it is solely for the nameless.

but warpsilver and stone is a radioactive rock. This is knowledge that is easily swept under the imperial truth, and that makes it disseminable to laymen presuming no ingredients require a psyker or spiritual ingredients are needed.
>>
>>6306434
>presuming no ingredients require a psyker or spiritual ingredients are needed
Anon. This is Xianxia magic artifact crafting. It requires psykers and spiritual ingredients.

It's like you forgot Lieren is a hunter. If he can permkill daemons and harvest stuff from them all the better.

There is a difference between theme, and rules.
a man cannot surpass a primarch without being a psyker, and being a psyker is pain. Most men without a god at their back will never match or exceed a space marine regardless of their training regimen.

you get a few, and those few have names, which makes them OP.

>Forgot lieren is a hunter
Yeah yeah, man of many aspects, I have read the same quest as you. But we have other shit to be doing, including admin, expansion and other prosperity inducing things. Hunting demons without a greater goal is a time sink and a diversion, it's better to have a resource we can just mass produce to use, like the warpstones.

And again, if we need anything made from a spirits body, just ask magnus. He'd probably give us the recipie.

>Magic artifact crafting.
Maybe, maybe not. It's refining raw radioactive warpstone into a usable psy-material. That can be done without psychic powers.
But if it can't, we can still give it to the Wanderers.

and if it requires spiritual ingredients then I kinda don't want it anymore.
>>
>>6306468
>it's better to have a resource we can just mass produce to use, like the warpstones.
Again not actually possible. We've seen how alchemy works from the Magnus POVs. You use soulfire (literally fire from your soul) to refine the warpstones with spiritual ingredients to produce magical bullshit. This is the similar case for the other options.

Also forgot to mention something for >>6306430. We did make them useful by using them as part of a ship core.

>There is a difference between theme, and rules.

This isn't even strictly true in 40k. The main reason humans can't challenge Primarchs is because humanity suffer a widespread collapse before being fucked 40k ways into submission. Humanity is currently being reduced to cattle you are declaring they could never challenge a Primarch.
>>
>>6306439
>All of the options are 40k filtered through Xianxia lenses. That ship sailed long ago.
Xiancia is not really an explicit part of the current options. Reminder: Magnus, the Thousand Sons, and Prospero are Egypt-themed. Moreover, western alchemy more than likely comes from the (Hellenistic Egyptian) Ptolemaic Kingdom.
>>
>>6306574
So? Eastern alchemy and Western Alchemy have different focuses but are thematically reskins of each other. The western equivalent of xianxia artifact refining would be like the the dwarves crafting the chains to bind Fenrir or a god crafting a silver arm. Pills and potions are glorified reskins. Useful treasures from a spirit's body is like Heracles getting his cloak from the lion or getting the horn of a unicorn. The poison one is pretty much universal lol.
Xianxia isn't that different from western "heroic" stories, it's just more like superhero bullshit.

Warpsilver and Wyrdmercury, Refinement of Warpstone and its uses: 11

A list of the successful medicine pills and spirit derived elixirs Magnus has made:1

"Dear Brother....etc": 1

Alright, so Lieren will learn how to create and use Warpsilver and Wyrdmercury from Magnus's extensive collection of alchemical notes/ manuals

The record that catches your eye and interest is a treatise concerning the refinement of and the use of the resulting purified material created from alchemically processing and transfiguring that most dangerous of Discord infused gem that had brought upon both the advent and doom of the prior generation of Tigerfolk and that had wrought painful and mindbreaking mutations on dabbling and desperate sorcerers.

"Warpsilver and Wyrdmercury" You hum as Magnus nods approvingly as you take the book, bound in a fur not unlike the stretched and tanned hide of a fine summer heart, with dappled gold and cream colors covering and stretched over the pages of papyrus and etched silver and brass

"Ah, I've only recently began experimenting with the substance myself. It was one of the mysteries the cretin that haunted Guozhi and whom corrupted most sources of alchemy in the material world had kept locked and hidden away" He explains as you throw open the book and squint, watching as arcane glyphs and alien language squirm like a host of industrious ants, reorganizing themselves into the shape of Long-Jianese characters and script

"A simple psychological enchantment, a translation sorcery" Magnus tells you as you glance over the top of the page and you accept his answer readily

While a psyker would find the task of refining warpstone safer and have greater ease performing the necessary steps to render the raw crystal into the substance called Warpsilver or Wyrdmercury, an alchemist born unblessed with psykerism or a true sorcerer would be capable of the process as well, if they had the proper tools and knowledge. And took great precautions to not be exposed to the raw energies of chaos released by the crystal as it is broken down into Warpsilver. And you quickly catch on as Magnus shows you how Witchflame can serve as the catalyst to melt and refine the crystals, that the sudden cooling required to purge the Wrydmercury of impurities and corruption, while it could be accomplished with sanctified oils, pure water or simple winter air or snow, the chilled breath of Arianka or her silvery moonlight is results in a quicker reaction and results in a higher quality Mercury once its vapors are collected and recondenced.

And considering the gilded flames ever scorching your soul burn hotter and more fiercely than ordinary witchflames or warpfire, and the cool water and ice of Arianka's gifted moon light is of great purity and cold than commonplace warpfrost or Empyrean Ice, you are perhaps the practitioner most naturally equipped and adaptted to create Warpsilver! Which your brother finds quite amusing. The two of you also briefly experiment with replacing the light or fire of Hysh at any stage of the process, exchanging it for the heat or cooling system, but quickly determine that the white wind will either be stilled and snuffed out or reduce the Raw Warpstone to impotent and inert dust; Which is however a fine dyeing pigment.

Cont
>>
>>6307075

And while you accustom and practice every stage of the process of creating Wyrdmercury, both with mundane catalysts, heat and cold, the sort that can be conjured or created by most psykerists, and the Golden Flame and Silver Moonlight you can channel freely, Magnus acquaints himself with Hysh.

And proves just as apt a wielder of the white flame as you are a creator of Warpsilver. He approaches it cynically, scientifically, experimenting and measuring each of its uses before incorporating them and defining them into proper techniques and pysker wielded powers. In his hands, it appears as a wind of white sands, dancing in the air around him like ribbons of silk as he practices the techniques and powers you had taught him and invents many more of his own with as much ease as drawing lines in a clay tablet. You are awed by his presence and authority as he works, and see how he had become the sorcerer king of a world populated solely by psykerist like yourselves. An inheritor of ancient traditions, paving new ground and challenging the great sea he so freely swims and strides through

"Marvelous" is truly the only word to describe the way he held and composed himself as he worked with the white wind.

And, while you had learned quickly how to refine warpstone in Wyrdmercury/Warpsilver, you'd learned a trick as you'd been repeating, memorizing and making the process as efficient and effective for the layman as it was for yourself, you learned that you could outright manipulate and control the substance through its Qi.

And had already created a weapon out of it, that you dubbed "Viper Dragon's Mane", a Frechette of needles formed and hardened out of the raw Warpsilver that could be used as a deadly storm of poison darts and a conduit for Psykerist Energies, or Qi, if that was the term one preferred to throw around. And that you can hide these needles, in an unassuming vial of Wrydmercury.

And what do you do once you and Magnus have finished teaching eachother, Lieren?

We put it back into the ships. You know the same place where it leaked from. There was never any real to leave it around after we cleaned it up so we put it back into the ship cores to fix them because that was the logical move.

Im curious guys what do you see our Legion developing into? What special units do you envision? What is our role in the crusade officially or off the books? I wrote up the 'Lair Dogma' and wanted to expand on a way I belive the Legion could florish.

I envision the Legion as a Fleet Based force whom send Journeymen vessels to pick up recruits from the verious 'Aspirant Worlds' and bringing them to our fleet. The Reason si I belive given our roaming nature a fleet would be most viable, it would allow us to move assets easily as well as that it could protect our Beloved and the in laws. Such a structure would also allow us or our sons to slip around here and there for more quiet stuff while providing a roaming fortress fleet.... besides you can't siege us if they cant find us! Also allowing us to fortify planets we want to hold from a position of superiority.

In the crusade I belive our Legion would fill two roles, one public and one private.

>Public
We're the support team working alongside mortal forces and being anchors within them, the Second Legion's reputation and social attitudes already helpping, we can evena ssist other legions since msot don't really like none Astartes that much.

>Private
Due to our public face we'd be all over the palce seeing all manner of things and mixing around alot, enough that we can have our veterans/elites act as anti chaos units under the guise of 'Cognito Containment'/Anti-warp fuckery.

In regards to Lieren's personal role once again in all likelyhood we'll become the Emperor's Exorsist/Tracker. We'd be a closer for things he want DONE by descretly. Meanwhile given our abilities and general aptitudes I could almost see us becoming the 'Lancer' to our brothers. Providing alternate views and such

The interloper was haunting the reaches of the Webway. The mistwalker had been brought once more to interfere upon rightful Aeldari territory by their misguided and naive craftworld cousins. Truly, they may not have intended to release the monkeigh as a predator upon the Labrinth, but it had become known that when the crux of the gilded sea of emotion, of putrid comradery and care for others strode across the webway, they would inevitably make sport of hunting down right minded Aeldari like Brakos and his coterie.

They had been promised a place beside the throne of the lord of the stellar hunt and safe refuge in the manses of the high nobility, if they could only draw a drop of blood and thread of divine agony from the fiery eyed ogre. What presumptuous, arrogant fools they had been. The fog had rolled in, unnatural and warp touched, Lieren had wanted them to know they were his next quarry and that he intended to toy with them and prolong their demise, clearly. For what other reason could there have been to alert their prey of his presence? Brakos knew not, and could only imagine the depths of depravity and raw sadism the demi divinity was capable of. He had the displeasure of being on the wrong end of the hunt for days, and even now he could scarcely comprehend how his cohort had been decimated.

The master of the inverted eight fold path, did not move their hands from behind their back. They carried no spear or polearm, nor rifle or cannon. They made use of no psionic powers or sorcerous calls. And they had not even used the skills of a hunter of base beasts, notching no arrows nor even excising their greater brute strength to maul his companions. Rather, with all the concern of a noble waltzing and weaving between slave pens, Lieren approached, casually and confident, with a pace like a spider inching across its web, only sometimes joined by the abomination Brakos had heard he had taken as a bride, but more often alone and entirely serene. An entirely certain of their overwhelming superiority.

Liquid metal shaped into Flechettes, finer than hairs, would shoot through the fog, piercing through the bodies of those the fog strider deemed undeserving of his attention. Which had proven to be the entirety of Brakos' raiding party. And it was testament Lieren's cruelty, that he'd so apathetically poison them with a toxin beyond any knowledge of the old empire. Brakos knew not what dark pacts the giant had made to wield such virulent venom, but he had seen it drive mad one by one the members of his cohorts. It inflicted an illness of the mind, eventually. Before it reached that stage, however, more often than not the victim would be dispatched swiftly with witch flame, warp ice, or white hot lightning, as clearly the giant's all seeing eyes could discern their suffering would not satisfy him as the toxic metals other victims would.
Cont
>>
>>6309952

For why else would Lieren kneel beside them, clearly aware they were being watched by the survivors to hold dialogue with and converse as equals with those unfortunate few who survived the venom long enough. It must've been an experiment or performative art of somekind.

Brakos did not know. And not a soul would know, for his luck had ran out, and he had been infected, and no matter how he tried to tear out the offending needles from his flesh, the blissful agony of self mutilation no longer felt at all pleasurable. It had been replaced with...a cold. A deep, yawning abyss, somewhere where his heart supposedly was. He felt feverish. Afraid even. Something was rebelling within him, and though he tried to focus, like flashes of dark light, every time he tried to devout his thoughts to survival, instead his mind filled with images of his past transgression

Transgressions?

"Ah, so you are one of the tragic few, who have buried their heart behind a mask of sneering sadism and cruel apathy" Lieren whispered sadly, Brakos could not find the strength to raise his hands

"You" He rasped, stomach lurching as his head felt like it was lit on fire

"Know that I didn't prolong your or any of your band's suffering, I simply saw the potential for introspection, for regret and shame, and tried to fan the lonely spark within your stone cold hearts' He said, apologetically and oddly comfortingly as he knelt down and brushed a hand across his scarred, bleeding cheek "Those who were incapable of reflection, who were born without hearts to feel remorse, who could never feel disgust for their vile ways, I dispatched quickly"

"But the others...Me" Brakos whined weakly, tears filling his eyes "What did you do to us, why did you let me suffer"

"A sliver of hope. That your mind could endure the sudden weight of realizing, that all of the evil deeds you've done had been meaningless, that all your cruelty and wickedness amounted to nothing, that you could've been better, if you had chosen to. And that you had consciously decided to become a blackguard and villain, that the sole fault of a lifetime of atrocities and ill deeds belongs solely to..." He explains, voice heavy and weary and Brakos realizes he has had this conversation before, with the others who've had their skulls cracked open so they may be forcefully enlightened, by having the curtain of motive and self deception cast aside, so they may gaze upon a mirror reflecting the true abhorence and monstrosity of themselves

Oh Lieren was cruel beyond comprehension. And kinder than Brakos could've believed. Tears ran hot down his cheeks, as he relived vividly every wrong doing and misdeed he had committed in his long life.

"Help me" He pleaded

Lieren sadly shook his head
Cont
>>
>>6309953

"I cannot. Forcing another upon a new path and way of life, is as abhorrent as any other form of tyranny" He explained sagely "Nor is it right to force one who has decided to end their lives on their own terms, with full clarity of mind, to persist in living"

"Please!" He wailed, gripping onto the hems of his robe

"All I can do is stay by your side. By all rights and laws, you should die. It would not be punishment enough for your centuries long spree of murderer, slaving and more heinous crimes" He said, patting a hand on his trembling shoulder "If you believe yourself capable of change, or redemption, I shall guide you on the first step, but know that such a journey would take longer than you have lived now"

Black bile rouse in his throat, and Brakoz nodded and stood resolute, suffering through the agony of his new sense of conscience
and morality, and the overwhelming urge to simply end the emotional pain and self loathing with a flick of the knife across his own spidery throat. But, something kept his hand from his dagger. It wasn't out of fear for the pain its serrated edge or alien toxin coated deep into the molecules of the blade would inflict, but something else.

All of his cohort had died, either at Lieren's hands or their own. Only six of sixty six, including himself, had their minds and hearts expanded by the odd spiritual poison the giant had given them.

And, despite knowing all of them were just as repugnant monsters as he had made himself, Brakos felt...responsibility. To tell others that they had lived, that five of their number had the potential to be better than themselves, than their forebearers and ancestors. That he could wipe away the grime and malaise of his species, and find meaning and purpose, unafraid, that he could, step by step, find some form of redemption and forgiveness for a lifetime of inarguably vile acts and pure evil
_

"You've passed the test, Brakos" You tell the drooling Aeldari, whose black eyes have gained a new shine, as you gently help him up to his shaking feet "Of six, you alone had the inner strength to endure the sudden realization of your own villany, and of sixty six, you were one of a noble and virtuous hearted six, who had despite they bleak and black society they had been born into, the cruel and cutthroat way of life they were brought up in, had retained a seed of innocence, of morality and virtue, that had long ago been culled from your branch of the species"

"It hurts....it hurts" Brakos cried into your chest, sobbing uglily as you offered him a shoulder to cry on and solid ground to find his footing "All...all those things I've done. I've been blind for so long. I've lead them to their deaths, out of pure greed and selfishness. I can't...I can't be forgiven for that, not for that or the countless other atrocities these scar knotted hands have committed! I can't. No one could"
Cont
>>
>>6309954

"Yet you could still find redemption, even if you'd find it only in a single good act that ripples outwards and brings great harmony and prosperity to but a single world. I could kill you, release you from your guilt. I could hang you high, as I have done to countless slaver and tyrants before. But, you are deserving a second chance, if only because your people never allowed you a first" You tell him "Stand proud, Brakos, you've shown the world you have a heart after all. And the self inflicted wounds you've inflicted upon it will not be so easily healed"

And what do you do, now that you've discovered the curious property of YOUR wyrdmercury to be able to rejuvenate a dark eldar's conscience, Lieren?

I can feel the seething of the Kabal of the Stellar Hunt. Having your hired blades and guns so defeated, and in fact turned on the "Ogre" side its such a blow to their rep it will be a wonder if they will not self combust upon hearing the news. The nations of Shangrila and the "Ogre" have dealt them more than one blow too.

Such a little action, that might one day effect the galaxy at large in the future culturally. I love this.

He has a long journey ahead to redeem himself. Its hard to say if he could enter one day in the ranks of eldar journeymen, but i think coming in contact with Amatheon and reading the Journey could help him by having a "northern light" so to speak in his path toward redemption. He has much to walk and do for rid himself of all those sins.

"Allow me to present you with an option. Forsake your old name, forget Brakos, and abandon the identity of the Villain you were raised to be" You suggest, raising a finger as you keep the weeping man whose realized all of his life's deeds were nothing but the thrashing of a caged and terrified animal, nearly crying just from witnessing the immense and deep sea of regret now welling up within his damaged and tortured soul "Make for yourself a new self, a fresh purpose, free from the stain of the society that made you a demon. Reinvent yourself, and grasp this second chance of life with both hands and seek out a destiny as the sun rises in east"

"A new name. And that would help lessen this disgust and loathing I feel in my own skin?" The aeldari once known as Brakos asks

"It will be a temporary cure, I admit, but it will give you a sturdy foundations to accomplish the work to rebuild the tower of your life, stable ground to reorient and decide upon the three views you can live a life acceptable to your own standards and beliefs. A mask to wear, while you renew your perspective and learn how to experience a world that is not so heartless and pointlessly cruel" You tell them and they nod slowly, contemplating and digesting the thought

"If it will reduce the pain, give me a chance to leave what I am, what I was, behind, I shall take it. as a means to escape the shadows that have haunted me since birth" They hoarsely tell you "I won't relapse, I promise you, I'll repay this mercy. Somehow, Human"

"Then, as you cast aside the trappings of the old Aeldari empire utterly this day, then I shall gift you a Long-Jianese name to replace the Aeldari name you have carried as you've committed many dark and infamous deeds" You tell them, nodding along and stroking your chin in thought of what name, temporary or lasting, would be suitable for the once rabid dog looking out at the world with new found clarity and perspective, seeking forgiveness for all the wrong doings committed out of necessity and for self preservation. Seeking like roots plunging deep into the earth searching for water beneath parched earth.

"From now on, you shall call yourself and be known as Gen. Its meaning in Long-Jianese is root" You explain to them "embrace it, or find your own new identity in the crucible of hardship and introspection"

"Roots. The first part of a plant to leave the seed. The beginning of even the mightiest of trees. Humble. Surrounded by filth and unseen and unappreciated. Yes. A suitable name, for one who has chosen to toss aside all they had to begin from nothing, out of disgust for the finery and means they'd gone to possess it all" They reflect

"Then, Gen, today you've been born. Mark it as you the first hour of your life and be blessed, for most newborns are born squalling and helpless, rather than as warriors with centuries of experience in surviving the harshest of battlefields" You tell him and turn to leave him to find his own way.

The Journey is nothing, but a suggestion, musings and observations I've made, lessons I believe others would find their lives improved if they listen and truly take them to heart" You explain softly "But, it may not be your path. And it'd be cruel beyond measure to push you to adopt my personal philosophy when you're at your most vulnerable. Walk the roads, see the countryside, and decide if you need guidance after you've been left alone with nothing by your wandering thoughts. And if you cannot find a student of the Journey"

You hand them a copy written in Aeldari script

"Break the seal on this book, and read" You tell them "But do not think your only path towards redemption and forgiveness can be found within the text, and search instead somewhere nearer, like the agony of your wounded heart that feels loathing for your prior misdeeds. Listen and have conversation with your empathy and consciousness first, and meditate on that pain"

Gen nods, and the two of you part ways. You cup your hand as you bow and as you stand, retrieve a pen and parchment to begin recording the unusual effect Wyrdmercury had had on the black natured aeldari who had a hidden and deeply buried consciousness and badly battered sense of empathy locked away in their stone cold hearts, as well as the other more lethal and less desirable powers it holds. And by time you're done cataloging the ways Wyrdmercury could kill and cripple, your mind over flows with its medicinal and protective properties, so you begin a second chapter recording them and by time you're a quarter of the way through and half a thousand pages of parchment deep in the chapter already, with each page recording several medicines, treatments and ways of using Warpsilver as a protective and preventive measure against spiritual attack and sickness, you realize it would also be wise to record the differences between the different levels of quality and purity of Wyrdmercury as well as the more esoteric side effects and queer afflictions it can cause if handled poorly. And a list of techniques using and controlling it via psykerist ability would also be handy, the Viper Dragon's Mane will be but the first of a lineage of moves using and wielding warpsilver as a weapon or form of liquid armor.

Luckily, Kanzeon is as always happy to assist you in this endeavor as she has been for all your projects, and you are able to catalogue enough of Wyrdmercury's power that you can deliver to Magnus a manual detailing the uses and usages you've discovered of it and those you've refined and improved.

We need a united front for when we're away. We need to get Shangrala's domain secure before we keep expanding too far. Don't over reach, lock the fuck down what we have to ensure these core worlds are pure, defended and well connected to one another. A stellar bunker from which to reach out into the wider sphere

-[AUDIO LOG STARTS]-
“Over the years since the Lord of Lightning, the Emperor Beloved by all unified Terra beneath his Mandate we have thrived. Once broken and now we are whole, once ignorant and now we spread Truth, once fallen so low now we rise ever grasping towards his light. It is the Emperor whom is the ideal we all his loyal subject strive to emulate, whom we compete among ourselves to earn the adoration of of in a way he is father to us all; the Man whom bore an Empire...and even true born sons. Their names are already sung across our fledgling Imperium; Horus the Pit Wolf, Magnus the Red Star of Prospero, Angron the Breaker of Chains, Iron Willed Pertarabo. But few are spoken in tones approaching on damnably reverent as Lieren; the Distant Heir.

The far flung Second Son has despite his obvious absence from his Fathers' Crusade has had an immense influence upon the Imperium itself dating back to his Fathers' unification wars. It is whispered that it was he whom delivered the way to restore blue to are ravaged cradle, it was he whom despite being so far from the Emperors tutelage that reached out and attempted to reach even his own gene sons; the now infamous and enviable 'Legio Chimerai'. It was he the Golden Eyed son whom delivered technologies and boons, resources and information that even now at this moment thrust us forward, filling our sails as we lave the safe harbour of space we know.

But such a figure standing beside as mighty a light as the Emperor casts a long shadow, a long shadow indeed. Horus First Primarch-General of the Crusade now stands beside the Emperor too but finds himself trying to compete against more than a man, but the idea of one? Left to walk beside footprints which many would baulk to try to fill and while he will strive to do so I cannot help but muse in concern for the Luprical.

Already between the reverence of the distant Lieren and his teachings 'The Journey' are spreading like wild fire. The Emperor beloved by all is an icon yes but one whom feels...well.... unreachable? He is so far beyond and above us all, Lieren beside him feels like the stepping stone, the path that can be taken and one whose shown wonders along the way.

I fear when brothers meet it may not be a well met reunion, I fear it may be either the shattering of an image built up for so long it fractures the hearts of many shaking our foundations he helped lay..or worse that Brother may well do what brothers are oft to do; fight.

I will speak more of this later, for now that is all"

Aboard one of the stellar ships gifted to your gene-sons from the imperial household itself, the current and first flagship of the two hundred and forty seven survivors of the Terran group that first arrived to make war against the contemptible butcher king; The Cosmic Starling, a deceptively cute name for one of Shangrala's most effective and massive weapons of war. All two hundred and forty seven, plus all the aspirants and the majority of the Sheowl Rangers, Creti Grave Wardens, and Shuomi ursine guard. They are arranged in tight formations, that show a mixture of Long-Jianese military customs and the muster formations of your father's forces upon Terra and its own growing sphere of influence.

You stand, armored, before the gathered fragment of your legion, besides Kanzeon and Liberty, both of whoms true bodies share the airspace with the Cosmic Starling, as your other sisters in laws decided it'd be your responsibility to watch Liberty as you prepared for a training exercise in a planet far remote from Shangrala, one of the most recent marked for future colonization efforts, an icy, bitter tundra world with an environment like one from your wine infused dreams. It has yet to be named or given a designation, though the Engine Nears of the Eternal Celestial Engine have petitioned for rights of dominion over the unclaimed world, citing its abundance of minerals and combustible oils. Returning your thoughts away from the wealth of the world below, that you note would also be quite a comfortable environment for the Se'ah'in as you leave such musings for a later date, you look over the aspirants that are considered to be the finest of the first selection, who Dae-Hyun and the other ten most honored veterans of your legion, have presented to you in full military dress.

They are of course led by Shun of the Golden Shell, the late Dai Niu's most brilliant and final pupil, the boy who outfoxed the boy of Terra, whom is already bearing a standard of his own design. A fox tailed golden shelled century tortoise, a combination of the sign of his victory and the house hold sigil of his teacher, the family he had adopted him into in his final house.

Behind Dai Shun, are the other boys who participated in and succeeded in the game of Catch the foxes' tails. To his right shoulder, is Lee Fox, of the epithet "Painkiller", wearing a badge of Al-Uzza's favor whom had recently returned from an internship in a white lotus hospital on the frontlines of Long-Jianese expansion. To Shun's left shoulder, is the Mute Okeanos who had spent a month in the company of the Se'ah'in colony at Black Abyss, refining his mastery of water based pyskerist techniques and deepening his understanding of the alien breed.

Behind Lee and Okeanos, stand Ardvan Sina, now called "Hot-Plate" by his senior Astartes for both his talent in cooking and an incident involving a Plasma pistol that has required him to receive a number of skin grafts, and Kang Fan, who is still a bitterly sour loser in games of Go despite having further bolstered his already nigh unconquerable combination style of Dai Stalwart and Kang Charger martial traditions.

Next in line, behind Kang Fan and Ardvan Sina, are the Shuni Khaliq Mina, the strongest pysker of the first crop of Aspirants whose master of The Breath Within, the art Magnus refers to as Biomancy, has only increased since you last met, and beside him is Tao Zian, whom you can tell has been taken on a successful Panther Hunter by Feng and the other brothers of the panther, judging from the tell tale claw mark scars gracing his young visage. And taking up the rear guard of the "Eight Princes", is the former Bask Squire, Adur of the self given title of "Plain Adur", whom is the only one of these boys being taught to be warriors to be able to crack Kang Fan's "Falling Landslide" form of defense.

They are all bearing Banners of the legion and Panther Furs that you can tell were recently skinned and tanned at a glance. Only Dai Shun bears a personal banner. At their sides, stands their direct mentors from the legion, each of them a member of a different Sect.

"Presenting! Officer Candidates of the first Shangralan Recruitment!" Dae-Hyun Declares, and all eight of the "Eight Princes" kneel immediately and bow your heads "Humble yourselves before the Primarch, you might be the cream of the crop, but you're still in Boot"

"Excellent form" You applaud them, clapping your hands together lightly "And such obedience! I see the diligence and dignity they bear is reflected by the other aspirants. They shall be worthy editions to the Second Legiones Astartes as readily as the autumnal leaves change from verdant shades to rich golds and fiery oranges"

"They've taken to their training well, Pater" Nikephoros address you, thumping a power armored fist against his chest "We'd have loved to have them on our battleline during the Unification Wars"

"Hah, they will find glories and legends to pen of their own, Fair Nikephoros" You give a deep, belly laugh and step closer "Perhaps, today, the number of "Princes" shall increase to nine or more, perhaps one of the eight shall find an achievement to match young Dai Shun, who bested the Bulwark of Terra in a game of cunning and slyness. Perhaps, all shall be found wanting and require stricter instruction"

A few of the Aspirants faces paled, while their older brothers already made Astartes boom the chamber with their hearty laughter.

>>6314105

"But there will be no shame in failure, for in this exercise, their opponent shall be Lieren of Nothing" You declare, and stun not only the Aspirants but their seniors in the legion, but not all of the boys react with terror or dread, just as many eye's flash with the vigor and defiance of a true challenger!

"You wish to see how far they've come with a hands on lesson, Father?" Dae-Hyun asks, amusedly

"Of course, is there a better way for a teach to gauge the growth of his students than becoming the obstacle in their path to greatness?" You ask with smile "We shall depart for the nameless world below, to begin the exercise immediately. I shall join you after a brief delay, as there are documents and strategic maps I must forward back to the Homeworld, concerning matters of great military importance"

Those being the initial observations and musings you'd made concerning Jinhai's plans to incorporate Abhumans and Aliens more officially into the Imperial army, in a more regimented and refined way than the irregular units fielded in prior battles and wars.

And what manner of hands on training did you have in mind for your legion's aspirants, Lieren?

Powdered snow filled the air, melting and turning to steam as the heat of the troop transport radiated out in the bitterly chilled air of the yet unnamed world. The pools of water generated from this heat were flash freezing only to melt moments later. The world was one of sublime beauty yet harsh conditions, it reminded you very much of the Bask republic and standing atop this snow drift reminded you strongly of the day you, Elazar and his knightly companions charged under the rime to rescue Mari from evil spirits she had selflessly caged within herself in a prison of impenetrable ice. Mediating on those most chivalrous souls, and that their greatest hour was also their last. Some of the most noble of men, spent to dull the butcher's cleaver. Kanzeon silently puts a hand on you shoulder, sensing your darkening mood. You place a frost covered gauntlet over hers, as she tilts her head and almost scientifically examines the sensation of sheer cold biting into her skin. They had died as knights should. With dignity and honor, standing as a shield against the terrors humanity could inflict upon itself.

Your sole regret concerning their death was that you were not fighting by their side when they were torn apart and cast down by the bloodied handed tyrant. A regret you would not share with your sons, for surely as the summer flower wilts in autumn, would one day to perform the ultimate sacrifice for their fellow man or else die upholding their duty, die refusing to give an inch, die holding the line against barbaric and genocidal hordes. Deaths you would witness and avenge.

Looking across the gathered aspirants, wrapped tightly in heavy furs and synthetic textiles to stave off the worst of the cold, you pondered dourly how each of them would one day meet their end in the grand campaign to recapture humanity's reign across the stars, to secure the birthright and safety of the species. To ensure the human race would prosper and thrive after so long and cruel a night. But, Fate was naught but the salve of the fools and one should only imagine the future in the ways they can change it, rather than passively and idly awaiting its arrival.

This training would be preparation. So they may avoid the fate all soldiers share for as long as possible.

"The mission is simple" Your voice cracks over the silence, roaring over the thrumming engines and the crackling ice and the hissing steam, resounding powerfully and ringing all the way to the peaks of the mountain like a canon shot "Unassisted, dressed in only the materials you are able to harvest from this untouched world, you will march to the peak of the mountain at your backs upon the horizon, rising like a might temple from the snow"

Not a single of their young hearts held any fear or hesitation. They had heard your command are were ready to fulfill it.
Cont
>>
>>6316047

"Upon its summit. A greater and finale challenge will await you, a true test after the trifle of scaling the heaven piercing monument" You continue, head held high and armored hands clasped behind your back "What form it shall take, shall remain a secret until you confront it. So toss aside your clothes accept for your thin robes and undergarments, you will be allowed a brief window to acclimate your body to the cold. A single bolter shot will be fired into the snow to mark the beginning of your trial. I'd begin disrobing now, if I were in your shoes, aspirants"

"You've already been given a debrief on the wildlife of this planet, as observed by our forward scouts" Dae-Hyun continues from where you left off "Your only weapons and protection will be your raw wits and the training we hammered into you. Beyond that, if you require more, the only tools you will be find are those you're cobble together from the natural resources of the world. This is a trial of endurance. A test of your survival ability and knowledge. A challenge for your conviction and will to persist even when deployed in conditions that would be lethal to unaugmented soldiers and non astartes!. Not a test to see if you can kill a rampaging beast with a stick or survive out in the snowdrifts for an entire solar rotation. Understand that, Boots. Your goal is to reach and scale the mountain, everything between this LZ and the Summit is either an obstacle or resource to expend to improve your odds. Scavenge for food, hunt if you must, build fires, but understand this is a journey, not a camping trip!"

In unison, the boys trusted to you to be remade into Astartes smack their closed fists against their chest, several of them having hopped up from rolling in the snow or shoveling handfuls of it down their robes to shock their bodies and immunize it briefly against the sensation of the icy air washing against their exposed skin.

You gave the signal to Nikephoros to place a shot close to their formation, and to their credit, they barely jumped when the round erupted, showering them with snow, ice and rocked pounded into gravel. And they were off, like Jackals into a hen house or Cliffjumpers that had broken from their reigns.

you watched them vanish into the snow

"Maintain observation. If any of them are close to succumbing to the elements or other natural forces of this world, covertly collect them and bring them back to our forward base for treatment" Your order Dae-hyun, who carries the command down the line of the chain of command

"I'm sure they'd prefer to be left to be die. Young boys always have too much pride and confidence in themselves for their own good" Kanzeon muses as she stares at the path of footprints left in the snow, being sanded down by the gentle breeze and lifted up as a cloud of snow flakes that quickly melt and turn to steam upon her breath.

It was the first mark humanity left upon the world beyond footsteps in soft snow and anchor marks left marring the sheer faces of sheets of ice and walls of stone. A wall. As long as eight men standing side by side with their arms held at their sides, made of durable titanium alloy and polished through a mixture of chemistry and psykerism, mingling science and what most would deem magic to make a clear reflection that could resist the elements for much longer than any other material and untreated surface could. Winds, Hail, Extreme colds and heats, even the more arcane energies fielded by the likes of the Aeldari and the Drones spawned by the sister ships to harvest and refine resources could scarcely scratch its surface. Far more durable and enduring than a sheet of glass backed with silver or crystal cut to accurately capture that which stood before it.

And that was all. No hint, clue or explanation. A simple reflection atop the great mountain. A mirror at the end of a long, arduous road. A puddle by the roadside. What awaited the aspirants at the end of their journey through the truly untouched and untamed wilderness, what they'd find as the final trial on the last leg of their trek across vast tundra a climb that'd send them to the very pinnacle of this unnamed world, would be themselves. Their reflection, held upon a surface they could not shatter or damage.

And what lesson they found within their own image, what wisdom they thought it embodied or what it was all meant to teach and the purpose of so strange an obstacle, would speak more of the core of their characters and their true selves than any interview or test could. More than even your sagely eyes could reveal.

It'd take days for the first aspirant to reach the end goal, but you'd be watching them every step and leg of their journey to reach their own selves, closely and ensuring no lives were lost pointlessly on an exercise meant to encourage deep thinking and contemplation, from its start of the challenge to survive in this unexplored world to the curiosity of the mirror left atop a mountain that broke through the clouds and rose high up into the heavens. Isolation left one with only their own thoughts and feelings and encouraged introspection and reflection. And a literal reflection would was the last test. Some would be frustrated, confused. Others would despair. Some would take it as a sign to travel back down the mountain. Others would contemplate their mirror. And some would be Enlighted, struck by revelation as they recognized themselves as the greatest challenge they must face in life.

So many possible answers and solutions. And all of them were correct, and none of them were right. What it would teach, what it would show, was unique to each who'd confront that final challenge. What they'd see or believe, reflected of themselves. Maybe some would climb it. But that was part of the challenge.

The mirror showed them who they were. And that You that was reflected, could be seen by all

Thus, it was both challenge and reward. At least from the perspective your viewed it from, no hidden wisdom or trick to uncover a secret message, just a way to show them all what had given them the drive and fortitude to reach the end of the trial. Nothing but themselves.

In a way, no matter how they approached or understood the last obstacle left apparently in their way, this would make their final challenge themselves as well, as their reaction and choices that immediately followed could put them through greater hardship or lead them to believe they have failed due to a lack of cunning or dullness of the mind. But that was not set in stone, some might simply meditate or walk past the mirror without paying it any mind. And both of those were just as valid solutions to the last trial as any other and just as reflective of the world view and mindset of the aspirants as the mirror was of their mortal vessel.

And you were greatly curious as to how each young boy would react. You knew the contents of their hearts and minds well, but how they'd react in the moment, exhausted, spent and expecting a greater challenge than even conquering a heaven's piercing spire, would show truths and realities of their selves that neither themselves or your all discerning eyes could know. It'll be nothing else than staring deep into the tower of their own being, to the ground they had built the foundations of themselves upon, gazing into their own, pure essence. But what would they find gazing back? What would they take away from this brush with the self, so intimate, after days of struggle and perseverance? That was what was interesting, and that was the true point of placing a mirror there

To show and reflect more than their physical being, but to catch a glimpse of the character and deepest reflections of their heart, for all to see. Would they see a challenge, a hidden wisdom, a chance for reflection, an insult, a riddle they cannot solve, new found direction, a monument to their achievement, would they take it as symbolic, or would they simply see a mirror and walk by. And those were just a few of the ways they could react. No two Aspirant would react the same way, even minor variation in their reaction would make the lesson they took away in the end unique and wholly their own.

"I'll bet one of those sweet rice cakes they make in Nothing that at least twelve of them attempt to break the wall with their bare hands" Chul-Moo broke the silence, and soon all of your Astartes sons were laughing and betting on the reactions of each of their junior brothers

"I expect the psykers amongst them will attempt to pierce the veil to find meaning" is Rafaī́l Táphos's bid. The likes of Hector and Aadolf bet that they'll test all five of their senses on the wall and need their tongues removed

"I'm sure, considering how much the Long-Jian people delight in poetry and their love for riddles, koans and symbolisms, that a large majority of these brats will deface the mirror with their own, amateur prose and musings and lead to it becoming less mirror and more graffiti" Kanzeon sardonically proposes, and the likes of Dae-Hyun, Nikephoros and the other nine most veteran astartes back her bet, which she notices immediately that "And I suspect that is the one outcome your beloved, oh so clever genesire had not anticipated or planned for"

"I'd like to see them try, Lady Anahita built that wall to last. Besides, the Primarch must've expected such an outcome, they are still kids after all, even if we've been whipping them into shape"

You said nothing, but the sudden casual and joking turn, saturated the surroundings with blissful cheer and comradery, so it was no surprise that it drew the often fickle attention of your aspect and other self, Giggling Maid, who until then you'd last sensed skipping merrily between gravestones, conversing with the lingering souls of the dead, blissfully unaware that her presence kept away a flock of lamprey faced scavengers of mortal dead who clawed through the thinned boundary of the graveyard only to find themselves buffeted by the Maid's unrelenting innocence scouring their warp made flesh like boiled lye.

Seems the maid had sensed there was a game a foot. And you couldn't help but to smirk as you considered letting the Maid have her fun, now that she was here and bothering Kanzeon by tugging on her sleeve while she tried to maintain a composed and stoic posture, despite you knowing that she was aware of and could see the girl herself.

"We should continue our survey. We know practically nothing of this world besides its climate and weather" Kanzeon said, also sensing that you were considering playing a practical joke on your aspirants by way of...Whatever Giggling Maid was to you in truth "I've got a bad feeling about this ice ball"

"Mother Kanzeon" Dae-Hyun says solemnly "I've also noticed something in the air feels...off, a little fucked up"

"No malignant thought form presence" Rafail Taphos points out "None that we can discern through our gifts at least"

But you could feel presences unseen, before Giggling Maid travelled to soak up the brotherly friendship of your space marines. Some, you sensed were Arianka's brood. But there was something else, beneath the permafrost and stone. And you've had too many encounters with evils buried far beneath the ground to brush it aside as a non threat, even if the aspirants were unlikely to brush shoulders with whatever warmed the deep earth with life could be,

What do choose to do, Lieren?

>Because it would be amusing, allow giggling maid to join the "race" as she sees it, to the mountain and see if any of the Aspirants have enough of a spiritual sense to detect and interact with the Maid.

>Approach Arianaka's children and ask what they're purpose is on the unnamed world and if they've come out of interest of the training or for some other reason.

>Aid in surveying the world, by cataloging its deadlier predators while observing the aspirant's march far more closely than they know

>Find a route under the surface to see what lurks in this world's underworld, with a strike force of Astarte, knowing from past experience that what is buried is often dangerous.

Beneath the howling winds atop a mighty peak two figures whom did not belong stood before a great mirror. Two skeletal being of metal and code whom had briefly paused their bickering but for two very different reasons.

“This is so unlike you my dear Colleague!” Trazyn chirped peering from behind the Chronomancer whom growled in irritation as a response. “Oh do share whats on your mind” the unliving collector continued. Orikan simply took a step forward feet crunching through fresh fallen snow to both escape his compatriot but also get a closer look.

He stared into the mirror, he was sure he'd seen something, positive. Though rewinding to the moment revealed nothing no matter how many times he replayed it...something was behind him reaching out, a figure of arcing light golden and brilliant, terrible and...familiar? It had reached for him like it was pulling itself through cracked glass which melted around it. Yet while every loop revealed nothing new in the mirror it seemed each slightly differing interaction brought diverging annoyances from Trazyn.

His form began to heat up and the snow which fell upon him soon became steam

“Are you looping a moment?!-” The master of Solomance caught on darting to his side looking between reflection and caster“-YOU ARE! What do you see? Other than a dashing figure and his cyclopean escort?”

When he didn't get a reply he instead turned thoughtful and let out an unnecessary sigh standing beside him and looked into it to, gazing into his own reflection, has Necrodermis hands brushing over his deathmask.

He spoke in a more somber tone; “You know what I see?”

No reply, so he continued after a moment.

“I see two figures from a past so long ago to this budding garden of a galaxy it may as well not have been, never mind that their flourish upon the mulch of our aeons. Makes one more thoughtful when looking at their reflection, we see who we are without glamour or bias...just us...to contemplate how ever got here, all those choices we've made.”

Orikan took another stepf orward his tail now beginning to sway, his lens microns from the smoothed surface. He stared into his doubles eye and it into his.

“What is it you hope to see different?”

Orikan's form was beginning to cool as snow settled upon it once more, his efforts clearly either abandoned or having bore fruit and he finally spoke.

“I see who I am, but not what I wish to be”

“How forward thinking of you” Trazyn joke his voice playful once more,

“But that future won't be here”

They both turned and walked away, the Time traveller didn't notice beneath the snow an ashen hand print upon his shoulder.

Hey! Its my two favorite robots again! Always a treat to read what you guys write about their shenanigans. Really liked this one, especially Trayzn's "Other than a dashing figure and his cyclopean escort?”
>>
"We shall delve beneath the surface of this world, to find what lurks in the places so long untouched by the sun's pale blue light" You instruct, taking in a deep breath of crisp, cold air and shutting your eyes "Assemble a strike team of the Astartes most proficient with fighting in enclosed spaces, perhaps those who sought and fought the mysteries of Yushan beneath Jade Mask. In fact, ready several teams to search for an readily accessible entrance to the subterranean networks of this world, it is unlikely one will stumble into whatever it is that is there, hiding in the shadows by happenstance, so let us improve our chances by spreading out"

"Of course, Father" Dae-Hyun says as Rafail strokes his chin contemplatively

"Of course, we will improve our odds with deep scans of the planet surface" You say, before your wife can mention that, and you delight in the pout she makes when you cut her off from presenting the obvious solution "But, we will not know from a map where a village may lay, so we shall have to comb through the labyrinth on foot and find whatever it is that has made the air heavy with unease. If you would, love, be so kind as to begin the long range scans"

"I appreciate that you asked, my treasured scholar, but I've already began the the first of several rounds of scans, of multiple kinds from every energy found under this sun to wavelengths that could only be produced from trace mineral deposits. We'll know more about this rock than we do about" She says, catching her tongue and smirking before swapping the words she had been meaning to say with "The backs of our hands"

You hide a giggle behind the back of your hand, amused by the entendre she'd purposefully stepped around

"And I shall scout for a cave or path leading below the surface on my lonesome" You say briskly, as you start to walk away, taking long strides "Keep me updated on the presence or lack thereof of alternative routes, I shall contact the rest of the landing party immediately should I find a promising entrance myself. Until we've found a road under the earth, keep a close eye on the aspirants and keep guarded, we know little of this planet and its ways, beyond what we think are the most dangerous of its fauna. Expect the unexpected"

And with that you march alone into the snow, with only kanzeon's psychic presence for company as the two of you gossip and lovingly tease one another. It'd seem that Giggling Maid has decide to cling to your sleeve like she was a lost child rather than, embodying your unconquerable joy and innocence of mind and heart, gallivant and skip across the world in search of new and exciting sights and things.

Though, the presence of whatever the Maid truly is, seems to attract the attention of the spirits you were seeking out, as if drawn by the joyful energy you exude and peels of spiritual laughter radiating from the core of your being, further amplified by the Maid's own good cheer, combining into a potent typhoon of raw innocence and glee.

"I had saw that a reflection had found its own personality, cast from the waters of the golden sea" A spirit maid of cold flame and snow muses "And had began to terrorize the most abhorred with their mocking laughter. I was not aware, that the sea was aware of the river that flowed from it"

"Oh, look, a firefly" The Maid snickers as she jaunts up to and bounces in front of the scion of Arianka

"Of course I know the Giggling Maid, though how she exists separate from me or what she is in truth besides a Child needing chaperoning, is a mystery I have little care to unravel. She was born from my meditation and revelation of the innocence I've kept despite the grimness of the world and the simple joy I feel to witness the world and all its wonders" You laugh as you greet the spirit , who is confused as Maid stares and makes funny faces at them "Though I am enraptured by the quiet, somber beauty of this place, I must wonder why you, Daughter of Arianka, are here as well. Along with your multitude of siblings and kin"

The dancing spirit turns, ice crazing golden as fire glittered with silvery smoke.

"Yes, I am aware that there is an army of your kind here, but why? Did something in this world capture your attention?" You ask curiously, as one of the soldiers of ice pulls themselves from powdered snow "Or is my own interference on this world that drew you here"

"Brave knight of golden sun and silver moon" The warrior maiden says, bowing deeply and respectfully "And Maid of Freshly fallen snow, Mother Arianka had whispered through the cracking of frozen lakes and the murmuring of ice and snow falling from trees, that there was something of great value to our noble quest to see her freed from her imprisonment upon this world. But behind the seals and sorcery of the most abhorred, she is blind to its nature. So we search, we divine, and we ponder"

"Boring~ Boring!" Maid wails, hanging off the burning arm of the spirit maiden, entirely unaffected by the warp energies wreathing her tiny hands "Cut to the point! You just want to play in the snow and relax, away from the clashing swords and snarling fangs and black fires"

"Or, truly, you virtuous seekers are prevented from piercing beneath the rime of ice and stone" You guess and the maid and ice warrior both bow their heads, admitting their troubles without speaking them "Which means there is some form of barrier or protection that is preventing Empyrean born beings from entering this untamed world's underworld. How Curious. How curious indeed"
Cont
>>
>>6319827

"And that makes the feel of dread I've been trying to ignore come back in force, the list of what could be responsible for that is short but dangerous" Kanzeon says warily "If you're trusting the snow sprite's word"

"Hmm. Hmm. Hmm" Maid hums in thought, and you are aware of her idea before she speaks it "I know! Its too hot down there for them to go without melting"

And while that sounds childish, you understand what she means

"An engine fueled by warp energies" You say and Maid giggles and nods rapidly "Producing and radiating with such intense Qi that it prevents approach from both you and the scions of chaos"

"It is a blistering heat, oh knight, but to others it feels like a piercing cold. It is a device of some kind that stills the great sea and splits the Empyrean" They explain "But it is new, not ancient'

"And that means this isn't the worse case scenario. But that something or someone has invented something akin to the null denouncement script you're so found of, love" Kanzeon hums in thought "In function if not purpose, I mean. That field preventing these thoughtforms from traveling underground, could simply be a byproduct of sorts"

"See. Kazzy understands! That's why she's the bestest there is" Giggling Maid chirps happily.

And this only deepens the mystery of what lurks beneath the ice and the snow.

Ey, Welcome back. Hope the catch up doesn't take too long, and yeah that captcha was brutal especially on mobile
>>
However one truth has been revealed to you. The prize the kindly spirits seek is not an ancient cache of technology or a mystical treasure but a device. And while the terms of old and new lack much meaning to the denizens of the warp, Arianka's brood have a closeness to the living and mortality that their chaotic counterparts seemingly lack beyond a predatory desires and instinct. So the spirit maid describing the device as new rather than ancient brings you to two conclusions. It is a recent invention, in the grand scheme of things, and that its creator or at least their descendants are still present to guard it.

And while you've blatantly ignored and trampled upon social conventions, etiquette and norms when it suited you and allowed you to act with utmost efficiency and follow the optimal path to your present goals, to do so now would be folly. If you'd simply sought an audience or meeting with the owners of the device by brazenly marching into their holds, a fiery eyed giant flanked by powered armored soldiers they'd react as one could be expected to. Violently. And there is no need for bloodshed. You endeavor when you can to avoid unnecessary conflict and death. So you shall do so now.

"Kanzeon. May I ask you to try and reach out to any beings in the inner layers of this planet. You're already scanning for signs of habitual spaces, but would it trouble you greatly to try and find any means of communication. I do not wish to ask too much and have you overexert and exhaust yourself" You ask, lovingly as you gently place a hand on Kanzeons side, noticing faintly that Giggling Maid has wandered off and vanished to somewhere you can only vaguely sense due to your connection to...whatever they are. Kanzeon smiles, cheeks flushing to the radiant hue of a spring peach

"Won't be a problem" She says confidently before tittering "And, I'll admit It hadn't crossed my mind to simply try talking first before we kicked in their doors"

"Excitement and fear are so easily intermingled' You excuse on her behalf "Though I am curious as to what your great fear was, the worst case scenario you'd brought up, moments ago, love"

"Ah" She says, eyes popping open "Well, it was a number of things. Generally, when a society begins dabbling in warp tech, things go pear shaped quickly and said society rapidly degenerates. The same is also true for anti warp technologies. Often, they stifle what we call the soul or cut it off completely, simply due to misuse or poor understanding of the metaphysics at play. Not worried about those idiots"

"But the ones who actually master the craft, whether it be inviting in the Emperyean's winds or causing them to still utterly" You surmise and Kanzeon smiles and runs a hand through your iron grey hair

"As sharp as ever, my always curious scholar" She coos, bowing her head and touching her brow to yours "And the absolutely worse case scenario, would require a civilization dead before humanity's evolution to make a comeback"
Cont
>>
"Ah, the Necrontyr, the enemies of the Aeldari" You realize and Kanzeon playfully pats your head, once before returning to her work seeking out any method of communication, extending and spreading her influence far beneath the soil of the world. You turn to the two spirits, that, due to your brand weakening the veil, had partially manifested into the material plane "And you two siblings, can I trust you to lead me to the fastest route to the location of the device?"

The ice soldier nods, shimmering like mist caught by morning light, hurting your eyes to look. There frozen heart is free of deception or trickery, as to be expected of a being woven of order and law. And as the spirit maid returns to the spiritual realm of the world, leaving just the ambulatory ice to serve as a guide, Kanzeon starts laughing.

You look back, concerned but mostly curious as you can feel she doesn't feel threatened or endangered in the slightest

"Abhumans!' She shouts giddily "An entirely subterranean sub species. Must've been a mining colony that got trapped here when the planet got thrown into an ice age, the lack of a presence on the surface...need more data to explain this, but I've got a frequency, a radio close enough to the surface to get through a few miles of stone and soil"

"Have you spoken to them?" You asked

"Don't want to give them a heart attack, how do you think primitives who forgot the sun would react if a disembodied voice started speaking to them" She chuckles, shaking her head "We'll need to go about this delicately, adapt them to the idea of a world outside of their hole in the ground"

"Of course" You agree, nodding and crossing your arms in a thought "But what are they saying to eachother"

"They're singing. Think its a mining song. Sounds almost like a children's rhyme, if I'm translating it right" She says, shaking her head, as if trying to dislodge something stuck inside an ear as you can tell from a glance she's frustrated that she's enjoying the song "And far too catchy"

And that you also agree with, when she starts absentmindedly humming along with the tune. And the ice spirit begins to as well. Soon, you're jauntily tapping your foot and imagining what lyrics would go well with the rhythm and tune

But putting aside the song, how do you approach the underground dwellers, Lieren?
