Planet Dump25... Widely known as one of the worst planets in the galaxy, but not as bad as Dump26. The sickly glow of a diseased star irradiates this misbegotten place daily, providing a feeble facsimile of sunlight to the two and a half species of MISERABLE FUCK that live there.the ELLY is a photosynthetic creature that uses its big veiny EARS to gather SUNLIGHTthe PHANT is a CARNIVORE, it EATS the ELLYthe BUTTLEECH is a FREELOADER, it SUCKS poop from the PHANT's buttPerhaps in time, these genetic rejects will give rise to a thriving ecosystem... But probably notRules:1. Find a creature suffering from environmental pressures2. Copy it into MS Paint (or any other anti-aliased drawing program, if you're fancy like that)3. Add a feature to the creature that will make it better at not dying4. Reply to the post that had the old creature with your new, improved creature (and describe how it's different)It's that easy! And they told me you needed a degree to be an evolutionary biologist...
>>6324878the standle has gone sedentary
>>6324878>2k25Chelly has more feet peer feet actually helps standing stable to not fall over and hurt your legs
>>6324878when you find food you take big bites ensuring you lose less food to the environment and more certainly catching the food first
>>6324878communication is important for survival but how to communicate why not use the same organ to sense the communication to communicate.that passing glance that saucy gaze to communicate intent and position especially when near a phant, is important tiptoing around watching a single member of there group being consumed with them helpless standing at the edges
>>6324878ButtLeech grows lamprey-like teeth to better hold onto Phant's butt and to make it more painful. Why? Cause fuck em that's why.
>>6324886standing there unable to slowly shift there position makes them vulnerable so why not have some slack having it hang taking up less area that can be brushed into and eaten
>>6324919big picture both ends can fit inside of a phants pants
>>6324895Chelly has now evolved more eyes to help detect Phants. It really helps when you can both see and move better away from something trying to eat you.
>>6324903Phants now has a tounge to help it eat better and make sure it's actually eating some sort of Elly and not a nasty ButtLeech or its own shit.
>>6324895the weary chelly suffers from diverting more energy into OBSERVING the world around it, but in turn often survives slightly longer than its more carefree counterparts.
>>6324923A subset of the Buttleech grew cartilaginous, flexing nubs to better hold onto their prey.
>>6325033 having grown pairs of tiny hooked legs across its body, it can move faster towards its prey and move on new terrain
>>6324933Phant can whack now
>>6324921Standles develop a mineralized skull plate in order to BOP their enemies, ya know, just bop em. Because you can't say that.
>>6325555imagine my Halloween shame as I forget the image. spooky.
>>6325498Bigger mouf
>>6325556Bigger head
>>6325493Bigger legs
>>6325013Bigger eye
>>6325498Actually how about a second mouth?
>>6326126I have given it big stupid feet so it can run on water for short distances, in order to escape predators.
>>63261701) Bigger, stupider feet for better water running2) Fingers on its ears so it can grab things by closing them3) A big ol' runny nose to make anything that tries to eat it sick
>>6326127Longer legs, better to chase things with. It has learned to wade in muck, only the top mouth exposed to breathe, to wait in wait for its prey when the chelly runs across the water.
>>63262201) Big, strong, muscular legs for better wading in the mud2) Its tail becomes a hand, for plucking assworms out of its butt3) It becomes less of a fatass, so it requires less food
>>63261741: Develops a thicker ear that holds air in, so it can float in water. Additionally develops a trunk, so that, while floating away from predators, it can breathe.2: Develops tentacle-like suckers on its fingers, with little bone nubs/teeth. It climbs up trees (if those exist here.) to escape predators, and uses the suckers to tear open nuts/fruits for consumption.3: it gets spikes on its knees. It smears what runs from its nose onto them for additional poison damage.
How does this work ?
>>6326721You look at a creature and think of some adaptation it could use to survive better in some way. Then, you take the picture of that creature and edit it to show that adaptation. As species adapt, they become better suited for their niche, and species can diverge for different environments and strategies. Some games like this have random events like meteor strikes or ice ages or whatever, or different environments, &c. But the core of it is just adapting to deal with threats or prey.
>>63264351: Tusks, to pierce the ears of Chelly and run them down.2: A buffer arm, and fingernails to scratch at and pry open >>6326124 these things better.3: Even less of a fatass. Smaller brain too - not that it had much of one anyway.
>>6326520The only creatures on the planet right now are the ones created by the players, so currently the things closest to trees are these guys >>6326124, speaking of which:To defend from predators, some Gloomy Standles develop spikes that make trying to eat them painful, while others armor themselves further to make it harder to get at the squishy edible bits.
This is the GM by the way, don't worry about my ID being different, I have an advanced wifi router>>6325493The Nose Centipede is so called because it lives in >>6326520's nose and feeds on its snot, which is quite the departure from its coprophagic ancestors, but ultimately it's still eating stuff that no self-respecting creature should eat
This is what the cladogram is looking like right now. Creatures marked with a red exclamation mark will die by the time the next cladogram comes out because they're outcompeted in their niche. So if you want to evolve those guys, better do it quick...Currently inhabited biomes:BADLANDS - plains and hills with rough, poor quality soil. Common weather patterns include acid rain, oil rain, and trash being dumped from orbit (this is the iconic weather pattern that the garbage planet Dump25 gets its name from). The terrestrial Ellies and Phants live here.BEACHES - this would be a popular tourist spot if Dump25 had any tourists, and if it was less unpleasant to visit. The water has a notable oily sheen to it. Semi-aquatic creatures can be found dwelling here.SWAMPS and SWAMP-RIVERS - since a large part of the planet's precipitation comes from orbital fluid waste dumping (and the rest has at one point been part of said waste), most rivers have a consistency we on Earth would call an "OSHA violation". Still, it seems that amphibious creatures have managed to adapt to these areas as well.
>>6326174Hollow structures grow between the fingers, allowing it limited flight ability
>>6324886Blooming Standles gain weak telekentic powers derived from their photosynthetic ears and the diseased, irradiated BADLANDS soil of Dump25. This allows them to defend themselves from various threats.
>>6327429Some of the spiky Gloomdles develop sacs of volatile material at the base of their spikes, which are now detachable; when under threat, they can fire the spike at the predator. Though this has the occasional tendency to result in a murder-suicide rather than survival, it makes some Phants leery of approaching spiky Standles.
>>6326123Instead of a new mouth this guy got some headgear :)
Inflated Butleech slurp up the "nutrient" congealed sludge at the bottom of Dump25's swamp rivers, the properties of the sludge inflating their ends to rise to the surface of the water. As they absorb the nutrients within their bodies they slowly deflate to start the process again.
>>6327572oop forgot too reply >>6324878
>>6327572are they even really leeches anymore at that point?
>>6327599I mean they originally just sucked up poop, they just suck up riverpoop
>>63265201-1 now has even thicker ears completely filled with air. It can indefinitely float in water now.3-1 has even bigger spikes on his knees for better stabbing
>>63271261 has even bigger tusks2 has a more muscular arm for prying open Standles
>>6327454The fingers now have rigid cartilage inside, allowing for better control
>>6327559Speciates into having two different kinds of horns
>>6327677Blue Eyed Ellys will sometimes use their long fingered wings to strangle other creatures as they lock eyes in a near hypnotic state.
>>6326123Something strange happens within the Phant. It doesn't feel quite right. patches of it's skin thicken, and other patches grow slack. This phant feels tired, but hungry, always hungry, not in too much of a hurry. tired. tired.
>>6327544Blooming standles grow large nutrient reserves to get them through the hard times, or just to fuel growth during the great times. This reservoir of nutrition does make them a target for predators, but they wont take that one laying down. They will make their standle, here and now.
>>6327857The blooming standle has begun to sprout! I'm thinking these things have grown to be quite tall, pic rel is 2.5 - 3.5 meters tall. The average standle (>>6324886) Is only a 1.5 or so.
>>6327849this one has developed quite the schnoz
>>63278571) Standles develop a sweet scent that attracts buttleeches, then crushes them with their psychic powers to fertilize the soil2) develops a stinky aroma to keep away Phants.
>>6327843More eyes become larger in order to mesmerize other creatures better.
>>63281281) Hollow horns allow the Schnozguy to force air through them, creating a horrifying noise.2)Bigger schnoz, with bigger nostrils.3) Loose skin helps protect it from parasites.
>>6326123FINALLY it has arrived: a yet bigger mouth
>>6326125Their design gets a little streamlined and they start varying their diet; not only do they eat phant shit, but also phant blood. This leads to more dead phants but more nutrients in leech tummies
>>6333272and in the last 60 seconds I have even made an illustration thereof
>>6328151Yup. They fly now.
>>6333269Here is an evo that does not require a picture, more of a social evolution. So you know how chimps do social grooming, picking each other clean of the various bugs and parasites that live in their fur? Well, the Gnorsh starts to develop something like that.Herds of Gnorsh will practice social grooming by way of brown-nosing each other. But this ain't because they have a fart fetish, it's to help remove buttleeches from their herdmate's body. Fewer leeches, the fewer nutrients get lost to b the parasites.Nasty? Absolutely. But Nature is a practical sort not concerned with little things like propriety or decency.
>>6327572The inflated buttleech's neck grows longer so that while they may float atop the polluted waters of Dump25, they may still suck down delicious sludge.
