You were just a regular peasant woman in a small village in the frontier. One night, you were snatched out of your bed, gagged and dragged into a cave. You thought some horrible monster was going to eat you, but instead a group of figures wearing black robes put you in the center of magic circle and chanted. You felt hypnotized and soon realized that they had done something to your mind. You woke up outside the village the next day and walked home. In your mind you knew that you gained the power to cast some dangerous dark magic! You can hear voices inside your head telling you to do things, horrible unspeakable deed...

The voices tell you to do more and more horrible deeds, day after day.

It starts small, burning children's toys, sacrificing some animals.

But then you do something big - you learn of the fear of a man called Lothar of spiders, and you dutifully collect dozens of spiders and release on top of him when he's on his window.

The next day there is a commotion in town.

You thought you'd get away with it, but the collective wisdom of the village quickly pieces it together, and one day when you're gathering water by the well, a mob runs after you, tossing stones and accusing you of being a witch!

You run for your life and find yourself roaming the wilderness!

Many paths lie open for you ahead:

alright, let's see what finds you first

As you wander through the swamp it becomes increasingly clear why this place was universally loathed.

The air is noxious, and you almost get killed by bugs, lizards and even the local flora.

It is when they show up that things get really dire.

A large group of goblins!

"Oy, what the swamp has brought us boys, fresh meat!"

You try to run, but hey grab you.

In despair, you disburse some magic upon them, killing one goblin.

But you don't know ho to control your magic!

The got scared at first, but noticing no magic followed through, they return grinning, pin you down and rape you right there.

Then, after they have unloaded their disgusting seed inside you time and time again, you hear a crackle of magic!

Whoosh

Magical energies lay waste to several of the goblins, and the rest flee.

You are a mess there in the swamp, crying, ravaged and broken.

"Oh, you poor thing! It is such a shame the goblins found you before I did. Come, come to my house. They won't hurt you there.", says a woman, craddled in clothes that look more like a ghillie suit.

She puts her cloak on top of you and takes you to her abode.

It is a large if simple hut in a small island in the middle of the bog. To get there, you cross the waters in a small canoe.

She then tells you:

"They did it to you too, didn't they? The voices?"

At first you try to deny but she says.

"Don't lie to me. I can tell there is something different with you. I can teach you how to control your powers. But you have to swear fealty to me."

There are many weird things in glass bottles and a big cauldron bubbling nearby...

When the witch is distracted rummaging her possessions, you hit her in the head with one of the glass bottles!

You leave her there, unconscious, and escape into the swamp in the small canoe.

You find an old abandoned temple in the middle of the swamp. There are human bones all over the place.

Tentatively you explore the place and it is not very big - it has an undergrounnd half flooded level, a vast hall where ceremonies were performed with several statues looking at the center of the room, one of them with a single remaining ruby eye, and behind the altar two corridors, one leading to old beds and the other to old cells.

Under one of the beds, you find a small chest with ruined black robes and an old tarnished silver holy symbol of a deity of darkness.

It is getting dark outside...

What will you do?

You wear the tattered robes and sleep in the ruined temple.

Your dreams turn to nightmares - goblins, witches, skeletons, cultists... the list is endless.

In a very vivid moment of the nightmare one of the cultists approach you. He touches your hand and a blue arcane flame appears on it.

He then says "You have been chosen! Your true name is MAYINI! Awake... awake now..."

You wake up from the dream and you hear a scrapping sound on the door to your chamber.

One skeleton animated and is trying to get in, probably to kill you!

It isn't having much success with the door handle though... seems like it doesn't remember doors have handles.

You go back to sleep, and you sleep surprisingly well despite the scrapping sound.

In the morning, there are only piles of bones outside your door.

Seems like the magic of the temple animates undead at night!

What will you do with this knowledge?

You go out to forage but make sure to return before dark. You then rummage through the bones until you find an unblemished skull.

You bring it with you into the room with the beds and leave it on top of one of them.

After a few hours you hear a loud scream.

"I'm alive! I'm alive again! Where... where is my body? Oh no! I'm still dead..."


"What are you?"

"I am Yalda, the... the talking skull, I guess. And you, who are you?"

"It's an whatever name, I guess. Now, we must get out of here. Unless you want to end up like me. Every night, you wake up dead! If you try to leave the temple, your bones just collapse! It is horrible! I exist only for a few hours a day. Feels like a bad dream..."

"That's horrible! What can I do for you?"

"Well, I had a plan. I was going to grab that ruby outside. I'm sure it is the thing animating the undead. If you put it on the tip of a stick or something, make like a staff, then you could move the undead away from the temple. But when I touched it, my bones collapsed. I guess it is not for the hands of the dead."
