"Gill and Kane, stay here and keep watch. Alert us if anybody sails near the wreckage. The rest of you, with me."“Yessir, boss!”Two men split off from the group and stand guard by the gaping hole that had allowed you all an entrance. It was a miracle the remains of the ship were afloat at all, nearly half of it shorn off by Sea Devil knows what. You count yourself lucky you weren't a part of the battle and count yourself even luckier that you and the rest of the bandits got here first. Somehow, you doubt even your imagination can conceive the type of loot a ship from the fleet of an Emperor of the Sea might contain. You proceed down the hallway, avoiding the gouges in the flooring and the dagger-sharp planks sticking out of the walls. The primary instinct that strikes you is to hover at the back of the pack, but there seems to be constant jockeying for position over there - no good bandit welcomes a backstabbing - so you stay where you are and keep your eyes and ears open. This wasn't your first job with these guys, but that was no invitation to let your guard down. The boss kicks down a door and steps inside a room up ahead. With furtive looks at each other, the rest of you follow suit and funnel in. Scattered gasps and murmurs fill the silence of the chamber. The chamber was chock-full of glittering, glorious treasure chests."Boys... we hit the JACKPOT!" The boss of the bandits nearly stumbles; such is his excitement in approaching the nearest chest. The rings on his hand clink together as he reaches for the clasp that separates riches from the ragged. One more step...But of course, could it have ever been so simple?"Boss!" the shout travels from the front of the wreck, faint, but not faint enough that you fail to discern the panic in his voice. "There's a pirate cre━!"A crack of thunder swallows his final words. A body slumps to the ground on your left.Huh?It feels like time grounds to a halt for a precious few seconds, as your eyes trail from the corpse, to the hole where the bullet entered the room, to then finally land on the hole it left exiting. One bullet. Had you been a mere three steps to the left, that would’ve been your end.All of you hit the deck. You wait a beat, but no further shots ring out. You peer over at the boss and notice that he’s still eyeing the chests, that familiar glint of greed in his eyes warring with fear and uncertainty. What do you plan to do?>You’ll follow the boss’s orders; your best bet for staying alive is to stick with the others.>You’ll betray the boss and the rest of the bandits at the first opportunity; you want all the treasure for yourself, and maybe you can use this chaos to your advantage.>You’ll cut and run the moment you find a way; you don’t want to end up dead, even if treasure beckons.>You’ll be arresting all of them; because you’re a Marine in disguise, conducting a sting operation.

Justice is your forte. It was a relatively simple operation as far as stings went. The Crimson Trout Bandits had been a thorn in the sides of both pirates and marines for months now, hitting hot spots and moving swiftly before any real threat could arrive to apprehend them. Since any organized movements seemed to be getting foreseen, you were sent alone to infiltrate their ranks. Your induction went smooth enough - barring the ankles you had to break and the property damage.Plan A was to call in the rest of your squad the moment the bandits were herded into a vulnerable position. Being stuck on this half-desecrated ship certainly qualified, but the arrival of a pirate crew complicated the situation. Thus, Plan B: you’ll let the bandits and pirates tire each other out before the rest of your squad arrives to clean up the aftermath. In the best-case scenario, the perps will be too occupied to get away, and you’ll minimize risk to you and your squad. In the worst-case scenario━Another thunderous bang, and with it, another bandit drops dead. You leap to your feet - ignoring the uproar of protests - and sprint through the door. You need to take out that sniper, and fast. Not only might he blow your head off, but a keen sniper might very well be able to spot your allies springing the ambush. You blitz down the dingy hallway and almost immediately run into resistance. Three men are rushing down the hallway, their eyes flying wide open at the sight of you. They clearly hadn’t expected anyone with the audacity to run towards the danger, and it’s that minute hesitation that costs them the battle before it even begins. You reach the first man and place a hand on his shoulder, pushing off it to flip right over the poor guy. You crouch down just in time to avoid a cutlass swing from one of his buddies, and transition into a sweeping kick that knocks the first guy - still reeling - right on his ass.You rise to meet the Cutlass Man’s next swing, stepping to the left and taking hold of his arm. He can’t even think of yanking it away before you clench your grip and twist, eliciting a cry of pain from the pirate. Your eyes drift to the right, seeing the third man fumbling with a flintlock pistol, and you pull Cutlass Man right in front of you just as Flintlock Guy opens up with his first shot. Cutlass Man lets off one last strangled cry, his body jerking in your grip before going limp. You toss him aside and barely register Flintlock Guy’s expression of gaping horror as a right cross puts him straight to bed.You step over him and rush for the exit.(1/2)
>>6338215The sun greets you with a smile and complimentary eye-roasting rays as you emerge out into the edge of the shipwreck. You’re immediately met by the sight of the pirate ship, a massive flag flapping overhead, with the symbol of a golden skull with crosses over the eye-holes. Another five members of the crew are dismounting, but you put them out of your mind for right now. Where was– there! The barrel of a large rifle with silver inlay stares you down, and no more than a second passes before it erupts. You throw yourself to the side with a second of warning, and it still manages to blow off a part of your jacket. No damage to yourself, thankfully. You lock eyes with the sniper - a human with tally marks running down his right cheek - and prepare to fight for real. But… how exactly do you fight actual opponents?>Unarmed. (Since the vote was extremely close between melee and ranged… fuck it, let’s do both)It turns out that at the end of the day, you just love weapons. You draw twin pistols and squeeze the triggers once, twice, thrice, firing a barrage up at the pirate ship before rolling to the side as the Tally-Mark Sniper returns fire with a booming bullet. There’s a few barrels out here on the edge of the wreck, but you can tell none of them would withstand one of those shots, not with how they gouge out the scant flooring that remains out here. Were this to drag on long enough, there might not be anywhere left to stand at all, leaving you to languish in the deep blue. You don’t plan on dragging this out nearly that long, though. You exchange bullets as you dart to and fro, and you immediately come to the conclusion that this just won’t work out the way you want it to. The Tally-Mark Sniper is positioned in a sniper’s nest of sorts, a semi-enclosed space that he pokes his head over when he deigns to fire off a shot. The nest itself seems to be made out of heavily reinforced wood that shows no signs of yielding to your pistols, and the distance certainly isn’t helping. Though there’s always the possibility of catching him with a headshot with the correct timing, the sniper is swift and fires almost instantly. Not to mention that one hit from him may very well put you down from sheer stopping power alone while you aren’t certain your pistols will accomplish the same. So, perhaps you need to get close. You stash your pistols back in their holsters just as a lull in the shootout begins. The sniper reloading, perhaps? You dash forward with one hand reaching towards your back when a hoard of small objects fly out from the nest. You dig your heels into the deck, stopping cold just before you run straight through the field of caltrops blocking the path. Almost in slow-motion, you spot the sniper’s head emerging from the nest.Just what you wanted. You weren’t entirely confident you could beat a sniper in a ranged duel, and in hindsight, that’s exactly what a sniper would want you to try - beating you at their game. But what if you refused? What if you didn’t play his game at all?Your hand clenches around one of the weapon handles at your back - the handle of a baseball bat. You draw it in the blink of an eye and ready your grip, sliding into the stance. Feet shoulder-width apart, knees bent ever so slightly, and weight on your back foot. You reel back, focusing on the bullet you already know is coming.(1/2)
>>6338933Weapon Master: Bat StyleReturn to SenderYou swing.Tally-Mark pulls the trigger. With all your might, you send the bullet screaming back. It shoots right down the barrel, shredding the gun’s innards with sheer velocity and emerging out the back to punch right through the sniper’s left shoulder. He collapses back, awash with pain and disbelief. The bleeding pirate slides back down behind the wall of the nest, but you suspect you won’t get any more trouble from him. You walk up the boarding plank and emerge onto the deck of the ship, lazily swinging your bat from side-to-side as you go. A few other members of the crew block your path, but none of them look as intimidating as the sniper had been; only a few swords with this lot. While you survey your surroundings, you note one of them scrambling up the ladder to the sniper’s nest. Either the crew’s doctor looking to patch up Tally-Mark… or perhaps just someone cowering.“You stop right there!”A grungy man with grey stubble stumbles up in front of the rest of them, wearing a black raincoat and a large tricorn hat atop his head. “You listen here, Marine dog–”A hilt slams smack-dab onto the back of his head, and he crumples to the ground. His crew turns in shock as the woman responsible - one you know very well - steps forward and turns a death glare on them. They stay put as she turns to you. Character Encyclopedia Entry 1: Luna. A fellow Marine and member of the same squad as you. She’s highly competitive and a bit abrasive whenever she encounters anything she considers mediocre. Good fighter, not great at anything requiring subtlety. She uses a fighting style known as Crescent Swordsmanship. Nobody knows about her aspirations, chiefly because she refuses to ever speak about them.“Why didn’t you give the signal yet? You plannin’ on fighting the entire damn ship before letting us have any of the fun?” Luna asks, raising a single black brow. >You smile placidly. “Plan B, remember? If any other parties show up, we let them and the bandits fight it out before I call the rest of us. I was just dealing with the sniper”>You smirk. “What, just so I could outshine you again? Dual wield pistols and a baseball bat just screams a punk-ish vibe to me. For me that'd be more fun than playing a consummate professional. It'd be fun to see how that plays against the typical marine culture. Plus it would help explain why he's the guy who can go undercover with pirates so successfully

You smile placidly. “Plan B, remember? If any other parties show up, we let them and the bandits fight it out before I call the rest of us. I was just dealing with the sniper.”Luna rolls her eyes. “Sure looked like you were planning to take on all of ‘em before I came aboard. Leaving me high and dry over here.”“They would’ve come after me regardless after I took out the sniper,” you shrug. “I can let you handle the rest if you want?”“Handle what? The dregs?” Luna blows out her cheeks and turns to face the remaining pirates. The lunar sheen of her sword sparkles under the sunlight as she brings it to bear. The pirates share a few fearful glances, quickly realizing they don’t have much of a choice but to fight. The bravest of the lot lets out a noise you suspect is some butchered battle cry and charges forward, sword raised high. “Look at this. This one left his guard wide open–” With one deft slash, she slashes his dominant hand, causing him to stumble past her and drop to his knees, defanged.“--this guy’s not even holding his with a proper grip–” A rising strike knocks the blade right out of the second pirate’s hands, so he throws his hands up in surrender.“--and this joker won’t even fight back!” The third guy’s abandoned all pretense of confidence and simply holds his blade in a guarded stance, sweat sliding down his face. Luna simply steps forward and brings her blade down. There’s a flash of silvery light as the blades collide, and the pirate’s sword shatters like it's made out of glass. You tilt your head to avoid one of the shards. The guy falls on his ass, face painted with desperation. He reaches for something on his belt, but Luna stomps a boot on him and keeps him still. She leans down, eyes narrowed, and peers back at you. She jabs a finger down at the weakling pirate.“This is just pathetic. No style, no passion, hell, this crew doesn’t even have a Devil Fruit user. What am I supposed to get out of this? I feel nothing!” Luna stomps the guy one last time for good measure and straightens up.“The accomplishment of a job well done and justice served?” you reply with a small smile. She just stares at you for a few seconds.“I can never tell if you’re fucking with me when you act like this.” Luna points a finger at you. “You getting joy out of doing this?”“We can spar when we get back to HQ if it’ll make you feel better.” you say, still smiling as you slip past the question.“I’ll just kick your multi-classing ass… but, sure.”You know her well enough, you believe.(1/3)
>>6339346The two of you turn back toward the shipwreck, where a different ruckus has erupted. The two of you stride back down the boarding plank and wade right into the heart of the chaos. The bandit boss must have gotten his shit together while you were gone, because now the entire gang is streaming out of the entrance hallway. Unfortunately for them, they’re currently finding themselves intercepted by two other Marines. One of them’s not actually physically present on the field, but her presence is difficult to ignore. A couple of bandits are panicking as they’re accosted by a few small metal bots. The bots are these small metal spheres about the size of an average adult male’s hand, with small stubby metal legs. A bronze wind-up key sticks out of their backs. They didn’t look like much, but they were surprisingly intricate on the inside, and armed with weaponry. You watch as one scrambles up the back of a bandit woman as if it were a spider. She tries reaching around to catch the bot, but it’s a fool’s errand. Once the bot succeeds in reaching her head, it smacks one leg on the temple and knocks her out instantaneously. It stands atop her unconscious body and raises its stubby arms like a boxer celebrating his victory. You step over to it and look down.“Having fun there?” you ask the person directing the machine.Character Encyclopedia Entry 2: Melanie. A fellow Marine and member of the same squad as you. Perpetually tired because she never stops working on something new, obsessed with the quality of her work to an unhealthy degree. She’s a Scientist, and specializes in mechanical inventions. Her biggest aspiration is to provide safe, easy transport options between all islands. The bot emits some sort of crackling noise as it fires up its communication feature. Melanie explained to you once it’s based on the same concept as Transponder Snails. “As a matter of fact, yes! Did you notice the speed increase on my Wind-Up Bot, Version 23, MK 2–”“Yes, I noticed.” you cut in. “They’re very fast. Good work, by the way.”Though it’s anatomically impossible, you swear you see the bot itself puff up with pride.“Excellent! Now, to test out the Jaw-Smasher feature–” The bot scuttles off mid-sentence, ready to inflict whatever havoc Melanie cooked up. (2/3)
>>6339347You look to the right and find an entire row of bandits blasted off their feet. A red beam lances out and strikes the guy in front with a mighty impact. The force picks him up and sends him hurtling into the guy directly behind, who gets picked up in turn to then slam directly into the guy behind him… and so the cycle continues until the entire group is flung into the water. You rub your chin. “Let’s get all of us in on it.” Why not?You cup your hands around your mouth and call out to your comrades. “Luna, Mel! Come over here for a sec.”“Not like I’m doing anything worthwhile right now!” Luna shouts back, lazily kicking a bandit out of a blade-lock and striding over. She places a hand on her hip and eyes the two of you suspiciously.Melanie’s bots converge on your location, surrounding the rest of you in a circular formation fit for protection. Not that you’ll likely need it, what with the dearth of competent threats in your general vicinity, but the thought behind it is sweet.“Something wrong?” Melanie asks using one of the bots, swiveling to scan you. You wave a hand in denial and gesture to Zip.“We’re doing a point game!” Zip says, excitement rendering his movements jittery. “Remeber back on Ironcliff, the uh, the island with the massive metal insects? We did it there, and it was super awesome!”“The insects at least had size and durability. This crowd…” Luna’s lips twist with displeasure. “There’s nothing here. What’s the point?”You don’t need Observation Haki to foresee that Zip’s joy is about to drop off a cliff, so you decide to interject just for a moment. “It’s not a competition against the bandits. It’s about going up against each other. We’re comparing scores, right?”Luna thinks about that for a few seconds, and eventually, her eyes light up. “Damn, that’s true. Can’t afford to miss out.”You share a brief smile with Zip. He claps his hands and turns to face the bandits with vicious anticipation. You reach back, Luna hefts her blade, and Mel’s bots clamber into position.“We start… NOW!” Zip fires a beam skyward, and the four of you burst into action. You whip out a staff and launch onto the nearest bandit, pushing your might into a devastating vertical swing. Surprisingly, the bandit executes a perfectly acceptable block with his longsword, but the sheer difference in physical strength between the two of you renders the defense moot. You bash his blade aside and smash one end of the staff into the side of his head, rattling teeth and jarring the brain. He drops like a puppet with its strings cut.A woman behind you lets out an exclamation of rage and swings at your back, itching for vengeance. You turn with fluid motion and twirl your staff to interpose the blow, stopping it dead in its tracks. She stumbles back and swings yet again, so you simply guide the slash away with a gentle tap of your weapon and promptly shove it into her stomach. Gasping as the wind is knocked out of her, the bandit falls to her knees and curls up in agony. You tap her once on the head to send her to sleep’s embrace and move on. Time was of the essence.(1/)
>>6339898Providence smiles upon you then, as four of the remaining bandits rush you at once. They fan out into the cardinal directions, stalking toward you like a flock of vultures encroaching upon a corpse. Only they weren’t the predator. You turn slowly in place, twirling your staff almost absentmindedly as they descend upon you. Your expression is relaxed, totally serene. Your mind and body are as one, and they have already decided the outcome of this battle. The first bandit swings his axe in an overhead strike. It’s weighty, dangerous, and very deadly. Such an attack could easily cleave a shoulder off a regular man. The moment before it reaches you, the staff blurs in your hands, rotation speeding up immensely. You adjust your hands ever so slightly and parry, the build-up of force knocking the axe right out of his hands and sending it right off the boat. The bandit freezes, too flummoxed to even comprehend what just happened. The next bandit was already attacking - at your back, too. He’d slashed a mere second after the axe-wielder had struck. Surely if both of them attacked you at once, one of them would pierce your guard - that must be what they were thinking. Smart, but misguided. You adjust your footwork and bring your whirling stick of doom to bear, overpowering the staff and dancing into a follow-up blow that sends the backstabber flying. It’s at this point that the other two launch their own attacks, but they’re victims. You sweep them up in the wake of your staff’s waltz and fling them into the wreck.Three seconds. That’s all it took. You sweep your gaze over the rest of the battle and find that it's already almost over. Not surprising, given the stock of your enemy, but a little saddening at the same time. You have just enough time left to yank out a handheld crossbow hanging inside your jacket and nail one of the fleeing bandits in the knee before it’s all over. Then, the shipwreck falls blissfully silent. “Okay guys, how many did each of you get? And no lying.” Zip says, skipping over to you. Luna and Melanie’s bots convene as well.“Seven.” Melanie relays from a bot.“Seven.” Luna says with a frown.“Seven!” Zip says cheerfully.“...Seven.” You say slowly. The four of you stare at one another.“Are you serious?” Luna looks ready to flay someone.“Let me check… yep, exactly twenty-eight of them in that exchange," Mel reports, one bot swiveling.“Wow! I mean, it’s a big coincidence, but it must just mean we’re all so good at our jobs, right?” Zip nods to himself sagely.“That’s a great way of looking at it. We’re a… what’s the expression, Mel? A well-oiled machine.” You reply, and one bot salutes you. Zip beams at everyone, and Luna just sighs and lets her eyes drift into the distance.(2/)
>>6339900“Hey, our ride’s here,” she says, and the four of you turn around. The ship looks as pristine as always. The aqua color scheme present on the wood of the vessel almost lets it blend in with the ocean blue. Massive white flags stand proudly overhead, the symbol of the Marines emblazoned at the center. The anchor comes down as it settles parallel to the raft, and a rope ladder’s thrown over the side. All four of you make your way over. You climb on up, and greet several lower-ranking Marines on the deck. A few of them shuffle down the ladder to begin cuffing and readying the bandits and pirate crew for transport. These guys are support for your squad, in the event that it's ever needed, and those who take up the busywork while you and the others are out enforcing justice. As a result, you didn’t know any of them too well, but you respect them for the work ethic they possess. You remember back when you were at the lowest ranks, equivalent to a cabin boy. Not the most fun of times. The small crowd parts to reveal your superior, burly arms crossed.Character Encyclopedia Entry 4: Wynn. A fellow Marine and your direct superior. She commands and mentors your squad. Wynn is a strict taskmaster, a big fan of “harsh, but necessary.” It’s practically her favorite catchphrase. She combines brass knuckles with Fishman Karate to create a fighting style known as Crushing Waterfall. This is further enhanced by her use of Armament and Observation Haki. “I see you were having fun out there,” she says gruffly, stepping closer. She was one of the tallest humans you’d seen, and she was buff as hell, to boot. For a good time, you were intimidated by her presence. “Team-building exercise, ma’am. Plus, we dispatched them more efficiently using the point game method,” you respond, maintaining eye contact with a cordial smile. Wynn grunts in acquiescence.“Can’t fault the method, I suppose,” Wynn responds, sounding vaguely pleased. That was usually as far as you got her. An overly emotional Wynn would have to be a shapeshifter.Wynn steps over to the side of the vessel and you follow behind. Her eyes trail to some undefined location in the distance. “There’s another pirate crew that was watching the battle.” she says slowly, expression difficult to read.“Anyone you recognize?” you ask, leaning over in interest.Wynn shakes her head. “Their ship never got close enough for me to tell. But it felt like an omen. I suspected they were waiting for the perfect moment to attack, just like the crew you and the others fought, so I split the squad and stayed circling the area just in case. But they only approached for a moment before sailing to the south.”“Scouting us out, maybe? Gauging what they wanted to do?
>>6339901“...maybe. They’re pirates, so our natural course of action is to follow the ship and apprehend them. On the other hand, I’m almost certain there’s something more going on.” She turns to meet your gaze. “I want your input on this.”>You think you should hunt them down while they’re still nearby. They’ll likely get away if you leave now. You’re confident with your full squad, you can come out victorious.>You think you should head back to HQ first. It’s by far the safer option, and perhaps you can come at the situation from a different direction.

>>6339903>You think you should hunt them down while they’re still nearby. They’ll likely get away if you leave now. You’re confident with your full squad, you can come out victorious.
“It’s not worth the risk,” you decide, eyeing that same spot in the far-off horizon, danger just a few hours of sailing away. “I get this nasty feeling in my guy. I’d rather not run headlong into an ambush, especially when it would risk the safety of my squadmates.”Wynn grunts and nods minutely, taking her gaze off the sea. “Same answer I would’ve given, in your position. We don’t have nearly enough information to stage a pursuit with full confidence, and…” she chews her lip for a second. “I get the same ugly feeling.”The two of you go quiet then, deep in contemplation. You’re sure you just passed some sort of test, but it doesn’t alleviate the strange trembling now present in your spirit. The danger hasn’t passed? Or are you simply worrying too hard, creating artificial anxiety for yourself? You can’t expressly tell, and that’s the scary part. The ship sails for a few hours, making its merry way back towards HQ. One of the members of your squad that stayed on the ship walks up to you and makes small talk.Character Encyclopedia Entry 5: Tray. A fellow Marine and a member of the same squad as you. Tray is incredibly soft-spoken, barely speaking his mind unless he is asked to. He ate the Bond-Bond Fruit, marking him as the Bond Human. His highest aspiration is to rid the world of the pirates…Devil Fruit Encyclopedia Entry 2: The Bond-Bond Fruit. This Devil Fruit turns the user into a Bond Human, and grants them the ability to connect any two things and stick them together. This can be used to stitch wounds, attach restraints, and even stick people to surfaces to keep them in place. “How’d it go?” Tray asks, cap obscuring his eyes. You can never quite tell what he’s thinking… or how he can see with that thing tipped down all the time. He never exposes his secrets.“Plan went perfectly, as far as I can tell. Tricked the bandits, captured the pirates, and we all came out okay,” you respond with a smile slightly too strained to be believable.“Really?” he asks, head shifting slightly in your direction.“Yeah. I just… there’s a strange sensation I can’t shake. Maybe I’m just feeling off after the fight.”Tray keeps his head turned in your direction, saying nothing. You sigh.An hour later, you spot smoke on the horizon.Headquarters is on fire. You’ve always seen this base as a sanctuary. The cerulean tower has always felt invincible, impenetrable, a fact of life that you can’t just stain and get away with without meeting heavy retaliation. The rock in your gut grows heavier. The naval outpost is surrounded by multiple unfamiliar ships, each flying different black flags. A coordinated attack by multiple pirate crews? An alliance of some form, perhaps? All you know for sure is that you have to act swiftly before further disaster strikes and the lives inside are threatened.(1/2)
>>6340487“Everyone listen up!” Wynn shouts, stepping up to the side of the ship as you come close to docking. “You’re to apprehend any unfamiliar face you see! Pirates are wily and tricky bastards! There’s a good chance disguising themselves as Marines is how a mess like this could be started in the first place, so don’t let your guards down. Are we clear?”A chorus of affirmations fly up from the men onboard. You and the rest of the squad step up to the plate as the anchor is dropped. Wynn is having your squad split off from her and the rest to cover more ground and hopefully save more lives. You dismount on one of the loading platforms and find that the entrance has been torn open, clawed apart as if massive ethereal hands had ripped it asunder. “Crap, they’re gonna mess up all my STUFF. My research materials, my supplies, my–” Melanie nearly tears out her hair in a sudden bout of outrage. The scientist of your squad had long, messy hair, bags under her eyes, and a ratty white lab-coat she clearly had not changed out the past few days. She usually controlled her bots remotely, like in the previous battle, but it seems her worries have stirred her into action - something you are made uncomfortably aware of as she rushes ahead of everyone else, sprinting down a hallway with her bots in tow.“Gonna get herself killed,” Luna says as an aside, hand on her hip.“W-we should go after her!” Zip sputters, visibly worried. What do you do?>You’re not splitting up. Melanie has her bots with her, so you suspect she’ll be fine.>She needs help. You’ll suggest that you go after her alone to retrieve her, and then the two of you will make your way back to the group.>She needs help. You’ll send one of the others after her.

“Zip, you’re the quickest of us when you apply your fruit,” you muse, looking over in his direction. “I want you to head after her. Reconvene with us as soon as possible, all right?”“Yessir!” Zip snaps out a salute, crouching down. He sets himself into a stance similar to a competitive track runner, eyes set ahead. The hairs on the back of your neck rise as red light begins to shine from the bottom of his boots. “Beam-Beam… SUPER ZOOM!” He vanishes in a blur, propelled by lances of red light blasting out of his feet. Like a runaway rocket, his form soars down the hallway until you can no longer make it out. The remaining three of you start down the passage as well.“His technique names need some work,” Luna comments.“Give him some time,” you smile. A little joy and whimsy in your life feels good right about now. “Let’s get a move on. No telling what’s going on up ahead.”It doesn’t take long before you begin to discover other Marines, most of them prone on the floor, rolling around in pain and… bliss? You gently nudge one onto his back and find him muttering something unintelligible with a serene expression on his face. There’s a discerningly large number of your comrades stuck in this insensate state, and you can’t seem to shake them out of it with your touch or voice. Luna and Tray try as well, but nothing seems to cure the condition. It’s likely a Devil Fruit power. Unfortunately, no doctors are nearby for a diagnosis, so you have no choice but to continue, a little more wary of your surroundings and the enemies they may contain. You pass meeting rooms and offices as you make your way up a few floors, climbing spiral staircases and finding more evidence of pitched battle. The wall is pockmarked with scars, burn marks, and other assorted holes you can’t personally identify. You step over an unconscious woman, minding her jacket, and the three of you push into a mess hall. Everyone in the room is laid out except for one shirtless muscular man sitting at the central table, chowing down a bowl of noodles. He’s at least nine or ten-feet tall, a true brick shithouse from head-to-toe.As you step inside, his head snaps up, one stray noodle falling from his mouth. He slams the table and shoots to his feet, slightly rocking the floor as he does. He points one uber-muscled arm in your direction, looking unconcerned by your superior numbers. Cockiness?“Are you REAL men? Do you have the GONADS to face GIGA in one-on-one combat, mano a mano, FIST AGAINST FIST–!”You snap your fingers.“Jump him.”(1/?)
>>6340945The three of you cross the distance in seconds. You can see the emotions crash down on him the moment you charge, first the sheer shock, a dash of fear, and then red-hot anger burning all else away. Giga reels back one titanic fist, and you get the impression even a single direct hit may prove deadly.“FINE! You want to see me get real mad? Taste my MAX MUSCLE!”The fist flies, and the three of you split apart. Luna dips to the right, you slide to the left, and Tray jumps high, clearing the path of the ruinous punch in the nick of time. Tray lands behind the man and lashes out with a low kick. It connects with a dull thud, but the blow itself has absolutely no effect. You don’t even see Giga flinch, much less get hurt. Thankfully, that wasn’t the main intent behind the blow.Giga attempts to whirl around, arms outstretched to smack Tray into oblivion but finds himself stuck in place. A small white mark has bloomed on the back of his foot, connecting him to the floor. Using the Bond-Bond Fruit to adhere the foot, Tray has cut off the pirate’s mobility in mere seconds. With enough force, Giga could likely wrench himself free, but not without injury, and certainly not in time with the surprise that he has sufferedYou draw a spear and lunge forward from one side.Luna draws her sword and swings it down from the other. Two things happen in quick succession. A purplish mist sprays down from a crack in the ceiling, coiling in streams, attempting to worm into your sinuses and mouth. The stark sensation of panic jolts your body into action, and you leap back before any of the strange substance can invade your body. The mist begins to form into a person. On the other side of Giga, a dark figure darts out from the shadows in the room and slams into Luna’s side, sending her rolling into a circular seat and toppling it over. The figure draws something from their hip and sends it flying - some sort of kunai, you think. Luckily for Luna, she’s no slouch even under pressure. She recovers just in time to interpose her blade, deflecting the projectile into the wall. It pierces easily. The room hums with newfound tension, and you take the moment to regroup. Giga growls, flexes for no apparent reason other than that he can, and stands together with his companion. Both of them are women, from what you can tell. The one who came from the mist reminds you a lot of a hippie. She’s got a yellow headband with a symbol of the sun on her head. Her crop-top is forest green, and seemingly made entirely out of interconnected leaves, while her pants are yellow harem pants. (2/3)
>>6340947The woman who attacked Luna is a Fishwoman of some kind, which you can tell by the blue skin beneath her black robes. She’s got this ninja get-up, with a black face-mask and a slender frame that you suspect hides a lot of power. It’s a three-on-three fight now.“Hey, friends.” The hippie chick smiles pleasantly, mist trailing from the edges of her lips. “Name’s Juniper. Whaddya say we have a nice, peaceful chat?”“No,” Luna answers succinctly, about to rush forward. You see Tray isn’t intent on conversation either.Who do you choose to fight as you split off?>Giga. With your weapons, you’re certain you can overpower someone who’s only fighting unarmed, even a freak of nature.>Juniper. >>6341261>not just a gun so big it displaces any matter nearby so much that anyone being a logia will get sent two islands over from the blast forceWalking Buster Call.
You’re taking Juniper down. You kick off the floor and heft your spear in preparation. You have enough trust in the combat skills of your squad, but a Logia user is a whole different type of beast. You simply can’t affect them with regular methods of attack thanks to the unique composition of their bodies. You know that with the help of Haki, all of you would be able to affect them with ease, but that sort of power isn’t something any of you have access to at present - at least, not reliably, at any rate. Though Wynn’s recent training has been good for you, it’s not so good that you could master harnessing your willpower in just a few sessions. But there’s always another way. Perhaps you can try and find the substance’s natural weakness. The issue is that you don’t have the slightest clue what the substance in question is other than it clearly being some sort of gas. Since you have no earthly clue, you’ll have to rely on your arsenal… and the indirect assistance of an absent squad member. You dash in and lash out with a rapid flurry of thrusts, jabbing into the hippie’s body like there’s no tomorrow. Of course, this effectively accomplishes nothing, your strikes phasing right through her with no resistance. You make a few holes, sure, but you won’t be able to disperse her gaseous form with this kind of attack. She tilts her head in what must be confusion, looking baffled by your actions. “Relax, man. Take a load off, yeah?” she waves her arms, and several misty tendrils emerge from her center of mass and slither swiftly toward your face. You slide under the makeshift appendages of dubious gas and surge to your feet, only a few scant inches away from Juniper. She smiles a little, opens her arms wide, and her entire body begins to shift into that strange purplish mist. Bingo. You slide a hand into your jacket and retrieve a long metal tube.”Remember,” Melanie began, gesticulating incomprehensibly with her arms, “this is for use on gaseous Logia users only. When you’re close, and they’re assuming the form of their element, you depress the button here, and a cloud of crushed-up will spray out! When it makes contact with the Logia User, it should immediately and violently revert them to their base form. As long as they have even a light coat on their skin, it should prevent or at least hinder them from turning right back, too.”(1/2)
>>6341362Melanie has lent you a lot of help regarding equipment for your arsenal in the past, but this was a particularly beautiful tool. The only flaws were that it was only a several-use affair, and apparently also very expensive to construct. Regardless…You press the button. There’s a soft hiss as the seastone is released, and you aim the tube to direct the spray right into the encroaching mist. A distorted cry is the only thing you hear as the cloud twists in on itself… and disperses. No shocked and outraged hippie appears for you to apprehend in triumph. You grit your teeth in frustration.A couple of possibilities presented themselves. Was this a Logia user skilled at creating multiple fake bodies using their element, and you’d simply dealt with one of them? Did someone else warp her away while she was about to be struck at her most vulnerable? Or were you not dealing with a Logia at all?You see more mist beginning to curl down from the ceiling, and you are struck by indecision. If the real Juniper is nearby, she’s likely in that room down above where the gas is filtering down from. But the time you might waste hunting her down could leave Luna and Tray vulnerable to her powers, while also having to deal with Giga and the Fishwoman at the same time. But staying to help wouldn’t exactly solve the problem of Juniper’s powers. So what do you do?>Go after the real Juniper on the floor above. You’ll be splitting off and leaving Luna and Tray to fend for themselves, but you trust in their ability to hold out until you can take out the mist-spewing hippie.>Stay and help Luna and Tray. You’ll be leaving Juniper free to do what she pleases for the moment, but you fear rushing to take her out may leave your two teammates vulnerable.>Retreat with Luna and Tray. You don’t want to keep fighting in this room, where mist is streaming down your enemies hold the advantage. This way, perhaps the three of you can stay moving and reach the real Juniper before she can do more harm. The only problem is getting away from the other two first.

You linger for only a moment before you dash out of the room. You hit a breakneck stride, eating up the distance between you and the nearest set of stairs. You’ve memorized each and every hallway in this base in case a scenario like this ever came up, and you’re feeling quite glad you did so right about now. Every now and then, you leap over a downed Marine, and it unsettles you more and more that you have yet to find a singular pirate prone. Multiple crews were present, and not a single one of them was taking a loss? The stairs up greet you, and you take two steps at a time as you ascend to the next floor. You see small pockets of mist wafting around the rooms as you shoot past them, and you avoid them with studious care. The pockets of gas grow larger and more numerous until eventually, you come across a doorway completely blocked off by the substance. Going off the direction you came, the room ahead is directly above the room you were fighting in prior. Thus, Juniper is likely inside. You hope. You’ve got enough uses left in your Sea Sprayer that you can neutralize the gas barring your way. The plan is simple: eliminate the gas, charge in guns (or swords) blazing, and take down the hippie. Justice in action. What kind of justice is your justice?
