Kattleya wakes up in her humble abode, a floating house in the ocean city of Nereida, with the sound of her entrance bell echoing through the wind.

"Kaaaat!" she hears a youthful voice calling for her as she yawns and walks through the house, scratching her belly with one hand as she opens the door with the other, and she's confronted with three of the local children, their faces morphed into pleading full with pouting lips and teary eyes.

"Mister Furball Two is missing again! Can you help him pleeeeease?" one girl asks, and Kat smiles as she feels her magic waking up alongside her mind. She's a [ b ]Witch[ /b ], a [ b ]Cat Witch[ /b ], and it's her job to deal with the town's problems. But first...

>"Sure, kiddos! Where have you seen him last?" (Kat is altruistic and genuinely a good person, and will help people in need to the best of her abilities just for the sake of it)

>"You guys can pay?" (Kat is opportunistic and lazy, and normally only bothers herself with things if rewards are involved)

>"He's a cat, he'll come back when he feels like it. Now, shoo!" (Kat is apathetic and antisocial, and doesn't like to bother with other people, more interested in her research — napping)

Welcome! Yea, here's some formatting for you--
[b]text[/b]=bold
[i]text[/i]=italics
[red]text[/red]=red
[green]text[/green]=green
[blue]text[/blue]=blue

Only the OP can do formatting, though, so make sure you're still in the same IP that you first posted in. Also feel free to ask questions in the QTG if you have any! People there are helpful for the most part.

I was mostly confused about the spaces between the brackets, but now I've got it!

A Kat's gotta do, like a cat oughtta do.

Rolled 2 (1d2)

Quests have gotten really slower around here, huh? I used to lurk when quests were still on /tg/ and when /qst/ was recently made, but things would go way faster back in the day...
>>

>"He's a cat, he'll come back when he feels like it. Now, shoo!" (Kat is apathetic and antisocial, and doesn't like to bother with other people, more interested in her research — napping)

But then have the kids convince you to do it
>>
>>6364362
People normally do 1 update a day it's very slow.
>>
>>6364362
Eh, it picked up speed a bit after someone paid for some advertising for our board, but then died back down again after 4chan died for a spell after that one guy threw his fit over his favourite board getting canned.
>>
>>6364365
I can see how that can be useful, it was one of the reasons I couldn't write much at other quest sites, but one per day seems a bit radical...
>>6364366
That was one huge shitstorm, I wasn't around during it but by god there are some retards around this site.
>>
>>6364362
/qst/ is just slow, yea, but don't let it eat at you. Totally fine to do an update or two every day or whatever works for your schedule, but don't feel like you have to rush votes especially if you only have a few! You can check out a few other quests on the catalog to see for yourself how often they update, but ultimately you're the one running the show.
>>
>>6364368
If you've got the audience size to do it, or accustom your readers to it, you can do two updates a day. More than that and it is likely voters just won't show up, short of you being a very popular QM. A good example of a decent recent quest that went much faster (like an update every 30 minutes for 6+ hours or so a day, iirc) is Reluctant Bounty Hunter quest, on page 7 right now. It died, either because QM lost his groove since he couldn't continue over the weekend, or because of the tiny voter base of like 3 people. The other anons couldn't keep up with his update speed, I was one of the only people to keep up with most of the votes.

>retards
Tell me about it.

It also somehow broke our board even more. Now threads stay around for 90+ days before falling off, for some godforsaken reason. And we've gone through two different variants of cancerous captcha, for unrelated reasons, to deal with the spam.
>>
>>6364369
I'm not letting it get to me, trust me, it would make me way more dissatisfied to be expected to put out multiple updates a day and not be able to write properly for a good audience.
>>6364373
That's tough. Though, I expect to be able to do things a bit faster here once I get some momentum.

I'm going to wait out 2 or 3 more hours and roll to break the tie if options are still evened out.

"Sure, kiddos! Where was the last place you saw him?" Kat says, as she ruffles the hair of one of the kids, her smile in helping them making their faces morph into smiles too.

"I-it was in the town park!" one of them says, wiping their runny nose and teary eyes.

"Near the old big tree!" says the girl, sniffing as she stops tearing up.

"Okay, did you guys try to see if he climbed the tree?" Kat asks, already knowing the answer as the children nod in denial.

"It's too tall, we can't see all the way up!" answers the girl, and Kat only scratches her head. The tree is indeed too high, probably the reason why they bothered her in the first place, as no sane adult would be willing to climb it to search for the cat.

"Okay, okay. Wipe your tears, I'm going, but you guys owe me ice cream after!" Kat tells them, the children cheering as she closes the door behind her and walks outside.

Kat is the local witch, tasked with protecting the town and assisting the locals with any task they can't do without her magic, but she prefers to live in a little floating home a little distant from the main islands. The boat the children took to get her is anchored to the steps outside her home, but how will Kat get there herself?

Kat prepares herself, taking her shoes off and putting them inside the little enchanted bag at her waist, and with a small jog and a jump, she dived straight into the water, the cheer of the children being drowned out by the water.

Katleya was, for all purposes, an honorary cat, but living in the middle of the ocean, she had to learn how to handle water and swim, her strokes in the water propelling her forward at speed no human could dare to compete even as she hated every second of it.

Once she finally walked out of the water, this time on the beach of the island the children told her of, she looked up towards the big tree in the middle of the island, the city constructed around it.

While she waited for the kids to get there, their boat lagged behind for a few minutes even though she got there with no boat, the witch took her time inspecting her appearance on a mirror besides a cafe, some people around waving at her.

Her long blue jacket was completely soaked, the fur on its extremities dripping down like a wet mop, and her long golden hair was sticking to her body like seaweed, her long cat-like ears still a bit clogged due to the swim there. Though, even if she looked like someone that took quite a beating from the waves, her youthful face and pale skin were still pristine, one of the perks of being a centuries-old witch, and by exerting some force over her magic, her body and clothes started to dry off as the children's boat got closer.

Once they reached the island, she followed as they guided her over to the tree, a spot where she had rescued many cats over the decades she resided on Nereid.

"It was here! At least, I think it was..." one of the kids said, sounding a little doubtful.

"We were playing at a park nearby and he ran suddenly, we didn't see him climbing the tree but he definitely ran towards here!" another one tells you, probably trying to convince you to still help, and you smile at them.

"It's alright! Look, I'll see if he's up there, and if he's not we can search for him elsewhere, okay?" Kat said, and as the three kids nodded, she turned to look upwards, preparing to...

The System

Kat has 4 Attributes: Paws, for physical prowess; Tails, for magical ability and intelligence; Ears for all six senses; and Meow for communicating.

When I ask for a Save from one of these attributes, you'll roll 1d20+Attribute against the DC, and I'll take the best roll from the first 3 from the winning option. Wait until I say what option won before rolling.

As you've chosen to swim to the tree island, you have more points to distribute in those Stats, so vote for option + distribute 8 points between these 4 Stats, they start at 0.

3 into paws, 3 into tails, 2 into ears. Going for cattish senses and physicality, with appropriate abilities for a witch to match, while trying to keep the aloofness implied with being catlike.

Meow 8 is psycho.
I'll roll for the tiebreaker, 1 is Tails 3, 2 is Tails 2 Meow 1.
I'll put these things in a pastebin later, and after this reply you guys can roll for climbing the tree, 1d20+Paws (3) against the DC 12, best of 3.

Kat prepares a bit, taking some steps back, and with a small jog she jumps on the tree and starts climbing, her fingers strong like claws digging into the bark as she makes her way up.

She climbs for some minutes, maneuvering and jumping between the branches of the big tree, and as the cheering of the children start to grow distant, she looks back to see how high she climbed just as her hand touches a mossy patch of wood and slips...

She falls. Her body straightens out in midair, like a cat's, but still she has to think fast to catch onto a smaller branch to try and slow her fall, and even still she tumbles down hard, falling on her feet but not before slamming on the trunk a little, and her legs tremble like jelly with the weight of the impact.

8 lives remaining.

The girl looks around, wiping some dust and leaves from her clothes, and something funny passes through her mind, the irony of the situation: she climbed this tree so many times, but she genuinely thinks she's lost. Did she just get lost while looking for a lost cat? It's almost like that time she got stuck in the fairy realm for some years...

Nonetheless, she now has one more item on her list: to find where she is, where the cat is, and to climb back down, and that's enough for her to remember that, like a cat, she's a little scared of heights...

>Just continue climbing. [DC 12 Paws Save]
>Use some magic to help you, you are also a witch, remember? [Choose your spells, Tails Save with DC TBD]
>Call for the cat, maybe he can help you find your way out? Maybe it takes a lost cat to find another. [DC 12 Meow Save]
>Simply try to find where you are in the tree, and maybe even see or hear the cat from there. [DC 14 Ears Save]

You just lost a life. Cats have a maximum of 9, and you'll recharge 1 each new thread. Lives are lost when you get horrible rolls, or when you would die from an attack. Try to not let them get to 0.

Looking around while trying to think of a way to find herself and the lost fella, Kat is struck by a funny thought: she's a witch, isn't she? So why isn't her using magic? Maybe sometimes larping as a cat is too comfortable, but that shouldn't be enough for her to forget her roots!

With a deep breath, she focuses her mind, building a multitude of complex magic circles in her head as she chooses a spell from her currently small list, as it's been almost a century of slacking off on learning new magic or remembering the ancient ones.

[ It's time to choose Kat's spells. Spells can be used a limited amount of times per threat, but make it possible to succeed without rolling. The only time you'll roll when casting a spell is if you're going against another spell, in which case casting a spell is a prerequisite for you even getting to roll in the first place instead of simply losing the exchange. Kat currently only remembers 4 spells from her previously known ones, but can remember the other ones and learn or even create new ones as the story progresses. ]

>[Steal] lets you steal things from other things. Stealing a key from a pocket? Easy. Stealing the friction from the floor? Harder.

>[Call Spirit] lets you summon spectral cats that you can communicate by telepathy with, and that follow your commands.
>[Bolt] lets you charge your fur with electricity for a time, before extending your paw upwards and summoning a lightning strike where you aimed.
>[Growth] lets you grow a patch of cattails where you aim. That's it, they're not even cat related other than their name, though you think you can use them to entangle enemies.

My logic is that [Stealth] is for an indirect approach, [Call Spirit] is just a neat observation / minion spell, [Bolt] for the raw offensive power, and [Soothe] is a communication spell for social approach + some sprinkling of concept manipulation, like [Steal], to round out the kit. I thought of just suggesting a "universal translator", but I think that's more a Meow stat area. Hopefully what I suggested isn't too OP and fits.

Stealth, obstacle bypassing, cats to scout or communicate with, and a method of committing violence. If we need non-lethal violence we'll have to get help or commit to wrestling. We're a good person, so stealing is less useful to us, though the esoteric uses for it are intriguing.

Kat remembers the spells [Stealth], [Call Spirit], [Bolt] and [Soothe]. All of these spells are useful, just not in the actual situation, so what will she do?
