Car chases come and go, but it’s deterring your hostage’s saviors that makes the difference in life. That sounded pretty evil, but it’s about you taking the leader of the mafia to the police — so it’s a gray area. You feel like you were sidelined for a good while, waiting for Judith and her crew to get ready to meet your team. It’s almost like someone shoved you inside a bag and let you fester in there for a day. Nobody should endure that.

That’s why you have been listening to Bubbles. The plucky girl is doing a report about how your pals around town are faring in these trying times. This gangster debacle is a city wide event after all. Everyone is fine so far, but there’s more to say!

“Sorry, everyone! I mentioned Jackey Frosties, and our amazing maid here brought me some. You know how it goes.” Scarlet apologizes for the sudden break.

“Couldn’t you eat after you were done talking...?” Vera is in this group call.

“And let it melt? Hello? That’s a big no-no. This is peak ice cream condition, and you know it.” Scarlet refuses to let her dessert suffer. “Where was I?”

“Uhm, the Jackey Frosties news?” Liu is always polite. Originally, Liu was going to relay the news to all of you, but her and Scarlet thought it would be faster if the redhead talked directly.

“Oh… yeah… one got vandalized…” Scarlet sounds heartbroken.

“C-Cheer up, Scar Scar. There are plenty of them around, right?” Crossbill tries to cheer up the spoonful spirit. It’s you five in this call, one agent in both groups and their navigators — plus Bubbles.

“Yeah, take it easy. I bet they’ll stock it back up in no time.” You remember they have that cryptic mascot anyway. That place is supernatural.

“But it’s the one we visited after taking down the cult, Johnny…” Scarlet has a real reason to be down.

“I bet we can help rebuild it.” You adjust your glasses.

“Stop. No more side-missions. You have plenty on your plate. You have an idol agency for crying out loud.” Vera stops this nonsense!

“That he does...” Crossbill chuckles. “Don’t ask why, I don’t think anyone really gets it. Not even himself.”

“Hey, I know why I have it. I don’t know *how* it expanded so fast, but that’s a different question altogether.” You’re a decent manager, gosh darn it.

“I-I think we should continue the report, shouldn’t we?” Liu doesn’t believe it’s the time to go into silly arguments.

“If only Scarlet stopped stuffing her face.” Vera grumbles.

“Huh? I’ve been done for a while.” Scarlet sounds confused.

“B-But you just got it.” Vera is concerned.

“So?” Scarlet doesn’t get it.

The Scarlet Report may continue delivering the news, but you don’t have to listen to it if you’re going to get busy, not that you aren’t massively curious about how everyone is doing…

What do you do?

>Continue listening to the Bubbles Report. That’s the actual name, and you won’t hear otherwise.
>Have the meeting with Judith now. It’s time to move things along. Hand over Youhao.

Votes:

Votes are counted until 25 minutes have passed. This rule doesn't apply to the last reply of the day.
Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 15 minutes have passed, so we can speed up the process. Rolls are counted until 10 minutes have passed, so be prepared!

(NEW) Dice Mechanic:

We always roll 1d100s!
Since most people weren’t happy with the system of averaging top four rolls, we’re using best of 2/3/4 depending on the attribute a prompt requires. If Johnny is a genius and it’s a Knowledge based roll, he gets more rolls (Max. 7)! If he sucks, he gets less dice (Min. 2)!

When asked for rolls, I will specify how many you’re going to get. Rolling begins after it’s asked.

Rolling 100 is a critical! There are no Critical Failures anymore!

The difficulty of the roll is tied with the effectiveness of the action. In other words, the harder the option the better the result!

Don’t forget that at the end of the day, this is a story-driven quest! What the prompts are describing is more important than the difficulty of the rolls, for results in a fight.

Again, rolls are only counted when they are posted within ten minutes of being asked, so watch out!

You’re not a heartless psychopath, you wanna keep hearing about how your friends and acquaintances are doing. Besides, you can’t wish a meeting with Judith into existence, you’re going to wait whether you want to or not.

“Do you get to enjoy this stuff if you don’t savor them for more than a second…?” Vera the Cheese Muncher knows all about making her meal last.

“As for the Jackey Frosties, I can wire you some money to help fix it up, Scarlet. Maybe we can go on a date there sometime soon!” You propose.

W-Weally?! Y-You would?! Thank you, Johnny!!! I knew you’d care!” Scarlet’s lisp slips!

“I said don’t get sidetracked! If you end up managing an ice cream store I’m really going to lose it this time.” Vera argues.

“You don’t consider what you’ve done before as losing it…?” Liu is concerned. Very concerned.

“Hey, I don’t stop him when he tries to do something nice for you! Meanie!” Scarlet pouts. Probably. You can’t see it, but you know the tone when she does.

“Besides, maybe I can manage it, I didn’t do half bad with the food stall…” Crossbill loves doing sidequests. “They’re franchised, aren’t they?”

“I think so!” Scarlet nods.

“Don’t you already own a place like that with Lydie Fort anyway, Johnny?” Liu wonders.

“Huh, right.” You forgot you didn’t do this just for the Beanies. “We’ll see what we do. But I can fuel more ventures.” You adjust your glasses. Maybe you can turn Fort Lydie into a Jackey Frosties…

“Ain’t that place as dilapidated as this van…?” Crossbill doesn’t see the point. “Why is everything my bestie owns old and rusty...?”

“Anyway~, thank you, Johnny, Crossbill! Hehe, you’re super clutch!” Scarlet sounds bubbly, meaning it’s time for the Bubbles Report! “Anyway, let’s continue, shall we?”

[The Bubbles Report]

Like before, you’re getting a summary of the news happening around town, by using the Motley Crew Surveillance System! (Susie’s cat and Cameras!) Let’s continue learning about everyone’s whereabouts!

-I’m not sure if you knew this, but the year below us were at the museum! Their field trip was ruined, but they’re fine! It's hard to be in trouble when you have Nariko, Yu Yan, Henry, George, and Trent on the field. Coindentally, Golden Peak Academy had their own bus there. So, Phoebe, Eloise, and the ladder kid were there. Yu Yan told me to call them ‘Piss Town Buds’, but I’m not sure if I should. Anyway, they had more issues trying to hide the fact they were kicking ass from the teachers, than beating those lowlifes. It was really fun to watch! They were so silly!

-It was unbelievably hard to track, but the Markgician snuck inside a gaudy building, where this big wig meeting was happening — and he seemingly threatened them all! He dropped a calling card at the center of the table and left without being spotted. Remember the group of evil billionaires? They all were there, and looked beyond pissed after they read it! I don’t know what’s going on! It was funny though, Ka-Shing entered the room after that happened, but our spy left the building soon after, it looked awkward...

-Uncle Jerry’s restaurant was attacked! Yeah, Terry’s dad! The birthplace of the Golden Crusher! W-What? I don’t sound like an ad! It’s true! Anyway, it seems a bunch of the people he banned are still really angry about it, even after all of these years. Most of them are losers who are part of the mafia. But we sent Oliver and Jaylene to save the day. Why do you sound skeptical? They kinda helped! Uncle Jerry is a scary dude on his own. Also, did you know he met the president?

-Speaking of our friends being in trouble, Iris and Tihana, two of the prisoners we helped, had an altercation with some thugs who rushed inside a TV station. Or was it an idol agency? They are out there helping peeps around and saw them. It wasn’t a big deal, they totally beat them up! A stranger with a flame helped them, she had a sportsy look and crab powers. Don’t ask me what those are, but it sounds delicious. Do you know that Tihana turns into a giant hamster?! It’s adorable. She looks so cuddly, it’s insane. She should team up with Rora. Two fluffy animals!

-And there are many more of our friends helping around the city too! Taking these criminals head on! WILDFLAME, Dudley, remember Rahul? That’s another one of the prisoners we saved. Even Carmella. Nina has no idea how to feel about this. But helping them out was more than worth it, wasn’t it? Take that, Vera!

-We spotted Vivienne carrying Flint Masterson! We don’t know what happened, but this is huge. Amelia is investigating from a safe distance as we speak. We will have the full report soon!

-You weren’t the only ones wanting to storm inside the Mafia Headquarters! Hanno and Velenius went right in from the front door. Maybe they helped distract them for you? What a coincidence! Is there anyone there left to face them? As far as we saw, Lydie’s brother wasn’t there, even if he was supposed to be.

“We’re still trying to make contact with Double D. But he seems to be busy…” Scarlet laments as she finishes the report.

“Heard anything about Gerard?” You wonder for no reason. Like, literally none.

“Uhm, lemme ask around, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I have something. Okay?” Scarlet will work on this. “Anyone else you want me to keep an eye on?”

Bubbles has a lot to investigate further on…

You can’t come up with any other names who could be involved. And if there’s anyone you’re forgetting, you trust the team over there to keep an eye on them. Scarlet and crew have all your trust! Unlike Liu’s crew, who you know did something to your van. But you’re not going to bring it up just yet, but you will… you damn will...

“Nope.” You shake your head. The rest follow your lead into nothingness. “Great work, Scarlet.”

“Thanks! Keep on rocking, guys! I’ll be in contact!” Scarlet ends this report for the meantime.

Now it’s back to reality. The final step of the mission, where you retrieve the fetch item to the key character. In this case, the half-beaten leader of the mafia to the trusty policewoman. You’re inside the garage of the building, on the back of the car still, everyone is wasting their time on their phones. Mat is watching the news, Celia is messing with the radio, and Roger is inside the building getting clearance for something. These guys are paranoid.

“Sorry about that, kids. We’re good now.” Roger shows up alongside a couple of agents. You can’t tell if it’s the police, the interpol, or the secret police because they are in civilian clothes. Well, you can tell a couple away out of the bunch…

“About time...” Celia’s smile of satisfaction has faded with the wait.

“Apologies for the tardiness, and your patience is very much appreciated.” Judith bows her head. “Please, follow us into the office space. Any preference for beverage? I say my coffee is of the utmost enjoyment.”

You all step out of the car, in yours and Mat’s arms is the criminal mastermind behind the largest criminal organization in the country. The agents will take him from this point.

“Then coffee it is.” You won’t refuse something so eagerly offered.

G-Gah! It’s you again! I thought that for one day, I didn’t need to think about you...!” Officer Cocoa is troubled! But you all had fun yesterday, what gives?

You wiggle your eyebrows back. The officer rolls her eyes with a hint of red forming on her cheeks.

“Ugh, it’s the freaky cop...” Celia doesn’t like the sight of her. Matilda raises an eyebrow, she missed that part of the hugging session...

“Freaky cop? What’s the story?” Roger looks amused. Even the other agents want to listen.

“Yes. Please. Indulge us.” Matilda is in on this too.

“D-D-Don’t say a word. Either of you! Or you’ll pay for this…!” Cocoa threatens you and Celia. The other agents take Youhao away...

“You’re so friendly with each other. How joyous.” Judith sees this as a good sign. “But let’s leave it for later, there’s work that needs to be done. And don’t fret, my men have a cell prepared for this man. Now let’s make ourselves comfortable so you can relay your story.”

“You don’t have to tell me twice.” You need a break…

The office space isn’t scandalously comfortable, but with a couple of couches, cups of coffee, screens, a table, and some sunlight — what else can you wish for in an impromptu work space?

You’re in the middle of the couch, Matilda and Celia by each side. The table separates you from the other couch, where Judith solely takes comfort. Roger and Cocoa stand behind her. The other officers are in the adjacent room with Youhao, in his provisional cell.

“Once again, I want to congratulate you for a remarkable job.” Judith plays with her cup of coffee, dangling her finger on the edges. “Words fail to describe how monumental this achievement is. And the timing? It couldn’t be better.”

“Thanks for believing in us. I bet our call came out of nowhere.” You half-joke.

“Not even wishing stars feel so miraculous, I admit.” Judith giggles.

The conversation is starting pretty well!

What do you do?

>Ask how things are looking from the police’s perspective.
>Ask what happens now with Youhao in their custody.

The Bubbles Report did a wonderful job of letting you know how your buddies were faring, but it’s all small scale. You need to see the whole picture. And the police perspective is as good as it gets in this instance.

“It's a great cup of coffee, Judith. What blend is it?” You taste it and get curious.

“A fruit and nut blend. The perfect flavor for celebration.” Judith calculated this exact reaction. Hook, line, and sinker…

“Great to beat the cold too…” Celia enjoys it, even if she almost burns her tongue.

Hmm…” Matilda has her own thoughts but she’s polite enough to not ruin the mood.

“Moving on, how are things looking from you guys’ perspective?” You wonder.

“We have moved past the worst. The unrest within the police ranks, the insubordination, the miscommunications; even a portion of my own precinct turned against us. I’ve never seen such a lack of professionalism in my career. It has been quite a challenge, and I felt quite foolish.” Judith has bittersweet feelings. “We managed to control the situation internally, and have been successfully placating the riots — as far as we know.”

“C-Civilians don’t need to know that. They’re gonna act like we’re a bunch of jackasses ‘cause of a few bad apples.” Cocoa doesn’t like that the police force is being exposed.

“We need to uphold ourselves to the highest standards. And transparency is the bare minimum to earn the public’s trust.” Judith argues. “And to our allies present here? The truth will never be bargained.”

“And I was gonna say it’d be better if you softened the message, but hard to argue against someone so passionate.” Roger shrugs.

“I assure you all, that officers like Cocoa and Jackson have done a tremendous job to stop all of this.” Judith doesn’t want anyone to be mistaken, the police aren’t evil! When she’s around at least…

“Whatever, it’s not like I don’t want those morons to pay.” Cocoa is pissed off with her coworkers anyway. Or former coworkers, you imagine they’re gonna kick them out, like that is Judith’s style of leadership...

“Like Jackson? I don’t know how reassuring that is.” Matilda half jokes. Roger chuckles in response, he knows when someone is pulling his leg.

“You don’t need to draw us a picture or anything, cops are gonna cop.” Celia doesn’t really care. “I want my old man to pay for all he has done, and be done with this.”

Judith and Cocoa look surprised by this revelation. Who wouldn’t be? They don’t look anything alike! Except for their hair color!

“What’s going to happen to Youhao?” You ask as a follow up.

“He’s going to stand in court in a fair trial, and pay for his misdeeds.” Judith doesn’t mince her words. “We’re circulating the photos of his capture to news outlets as a deterrent.”

“Good…” Celia didn’t want to hear something different.

“Do you really believe that is going to be enough? How likely is it that these wannabe tough guys stop because of this?” Matilda has her doubts.

“Plenty! They threw this tantrum to save his head, now it’s all for nothing.” Cocoa argues.

“We may convince him to call the rioting to an end for a leaner sentence. It’ll take an hour tops to go into effect, and for peace to return to the city.” Judith nonchalantly checks her clock. She knows she’s going to make Youhao say what she wants.

“She knows how to grill someone’s head until it explodes, she’s relentless. Trust this old man’s word.” Roger knows Judith will get that confession.

“No doubts from me!” You nod.

“I dunno about that…” Celia glares at the interpol agent.

“What’s your hold up?” Matilda is curious.

“Well, look at her funny pants, what’s up with them?” Celia doesn’t trust the Yuropean Fashion!

“…” Judith looks down at her pants, confused.

Guh~” Cocoa suppresses a laugh.

“Oh god, this girl…” Roger facepalms to hide his own chuckling.

“T-This is customary from my birthplace. A formal work attire.” Judith argues. “There’s nothing that can be considered of jest about them.”

“Nothing? Even when they look like jester pants?!” Celia slams her hand on the table for dramatic effect. Matilda seems to half-agree, but she’s thinking about it.

You wonder who you should back here…

What do you do?

>Admit that Judith’s pants look like Jester Pants.
>Refuse the notion. Those pants fit her well and are proper! You aren’t xenophobic!
>Say Judith is capable of rocking any attire! Maybe she should wear something else to prove it!

Celia has a point, they look funny, but that doesn’t mean Judith looks bad in those. They fit her well and proper! And not for one moment do you ever think she looks silly. It’s just pants.

“Funny or not, she looks great in them.” You defend Judith’s supposedly odd sense of fashion! All women are beautiful, and more when they rock their own style!

“Much appreciated.” Judith wasn’t expecting the conversation to go this way. It seemed all going according to her plans...

“Not to diminish his words, but he always compliments everyone’s appearance when given the chance. Keep that in mind.” Matilda wants Judith to reconsider her attire if it brings her so much turmoil.

“Hey, I call it as it is.” You have well-founded opinions!

“Do you enjoy my current appearance?” Matilda shows her attire.

“Absolutely! You look great!” You don’t hesitate.

“Celia’s?” Matilda grabs Celia’s baggy sleeve.

“Adorable beyond belief!” You say with conviction.

“H-Huh…?” Celia didn’t see this one coming and uses her beanie to escape reality, gathering some chuckles.

“Cocoa’s?” Matilda points at the cop with cop attire. Supposedly nothing to write home about!

“Stunning as always!” You love it!

“H-Hey, don’t use me in your schemes.” Cocoa doesn’t know how to feel about it, even if she goes a little… tomato.

“Old man Jackson’s?” Matilda points at the old man.

“Amazing jacket! Pretty cool!” You gotta admit that the aviator jacket is cool!

“I’d throw you a kiss if I wasn’t married...” Jackson jokes. Mat didn’t expect you to throw a compliment to your old friend!

“Vera’s? Mind you, she’s not even here.” Matilda continues driving her point.

“Precious as only she can be! My imagination knows no bounds.” You adjust your glasses.

Vera has forgiven you for all your transgressions of the day.

“See?” Matilda rests her case.

“...This speaks volumes about his character.” Judith doesn’t see it as a bad thing at all. “Those who look with derision at their peers, forget what they are trying to protect.” Her opinion of you can’t get any higher!

“Besides, Judith is capable of rocking any attire! I’m sure!” You cross your arms and nod.

“I wouldn’t say that my sense of style allows me much of a range...” Judith has her doubts, but discusses this seriously.

“You must try to be sure.” Matilda argues there’s no point to a hypothetical that can be easily proven.

“Yeah, I’d love to see you try something else!” You act all enthusiastic.

“Well, I—” Judith doesn’t have time to think before getting interrupted.

“NO! W-We’re not doing another bikini contest, ya hear me?!” Cocoa shouts.

“Excuse me? Another?” Judith is perplexed.

“What has gotten into you?” Roger doesn’t follow.

“Who said anything about swimsuits?” Matilda is confused.

“...I told you all she was freaky.” Celia is vindicated.

Cocoa has no idea what to say. You doubt she has any idea why she said that. Your reputation is sky-high with Roger and Judith, you gotta think about what you’re going to say, because you don’t wanna let Cocoa be considered a freak to her peers. Or maybe you do, but try to sell the idea that freaks aren’t bad!

What do you do?

>“What do you guys do at your station...?” Act like Cocoa meant it as a police thing. Throw the ball in their court and act innocent.
>“It wasn’t a swimsuit contest, we were at the pool, that’s it.” Downplay it to not raise more questions.
>“I mean, I wouldn’t mind one.” Wiggle those eyebrows and lose credibility. It’s a bold move.
>“Uhm, I was thinking of a different suit piece myself. Do we have one around?” Try to turn the topic back to Judith. You can bring this crowd back to what’s important.
>“Not to be a downer. But you should go and check on Youhao, right, Cocoa?” Throw a lifesaver at the tomato cop.
