You are an ONI! A fierce mythical demon! After being born you did a little rampaging and conquering. Now, that you are several months older and wiser, you are just following the wind and going where adventure takes you.

More recently, you have agreed to help the local Daimyo calm a river spirit. Your friend Yuki attacked you for some reason, but you knocked him out using guile and misdirection. After, a turtle agreed to take you to see said river spirit on its back. It may seem like a two week journey to some, but really it was only a few hours! Luckily you spend that time descending down into the river in luxury, otherwise that would have been really annoying! This turtle has all the amenities, cool!

When you reach the depths of the river, you see the palace of the river spirit! It is grand and opulent! The coral palace shimmers and wiggles! Towers stretch much higher into the sky then should be possible for a river of this depth. You jump off the turtles back and head to the entrance. leaving no tip (you don't believe in that kind of thing)!

However, the entrance to the palace is blocked by two guards...

"! HALT, NO ENTRY FOR VAGRANTS !"

You are no vagrant! You are a beloved friend of the river spirit and were invited here! You point to the collapsed turtle that ferried you here.

"! IS SHE ON THE LIST? !"

"! NOT ON THE LIST !"

"! NOT ON THE LIST? NO ENTRY !"

Hmmm, it seems you have encountered your first obstacle.

>What do?

You are no vagrant! but a noble lady of the court! And if you are not on that list, well, its because you are on a more exclusive list then that one! In fact, you wouldn't be caught dead being on some rinky dink list they give to guards!

This seems to work, at first... The guards are stunned by your brazen confidence but their next question statement combo leaves you stumped!

"! WHAT DO YOU DO? !"

"! DO SOMETHING REGAL !"

"! PROOF DO YOU HAVE PROOF? !"

"! WE MUST SEE PROOF!!! !"

Uhhh... what DO noble ladies of the court do? You cant say you ever seen one, much less talked to one... Think Oni think! You are almost in!

We can also show them the charm that Iyuta gave to us! It lets us pass through barriers meant for the riff-raff so that we may conduct our courtly business unimpeded.
Further proof is our awesome metal club, given as a badge of office to those who enact our masters will, be it via force or via words.
Lastly, we had to manage that one village for a while, so there certainly had to have been some administrative work that Blue Oni did. Maybe we claim that our regular duties are to write things down for our lord, and handle things like maps for him.

You select all the objects in your inventory, select all the options, and go through every dialogue option trying to get through this encounter. Unfortunately, this backfires!

"! YOUR EXPLOITS ARE INDEED GRAND !"

"! HOWEVER !"

"! A PROPER LADY DOES NOT DO ANYTHING AT ALL !"

"! A LADY IS BEYOND DO, SHE NEEDS SIMPLY BE !"

You are classified as some kind of servant or magistrate, and as such you SHOULD be on the LIST! They will not let you through the main gate...

Well, you cant out wit every encounter. There are still other ways to get into the castle!

These fish don't even have any hands to grab onto things, or any weapons. Nor do they have legs to brace themselves, to prevent being pushed around. So can't we just shoulder check the fish and walk right past them?

How do you get your name on the list? Well its shrimple really. All you have to do is walk down to the third magistrate's office and fill out the proper paper work. The River spirit makes time for all his subjects who wish to speak with him, so he has modernized the process!

You double back to your best friend the turtle for some advice on how to meet with the river spirit.

"If you don't plant a seed, nothing will grow" he replies

What? You don't want to plant a seed you want to see the river spirit

"Hmm... ok... how about 'rather than rely on a walking stick, rely on your own legs'"

You don't need a walking stick! Speak plainly old man!

You make some chit chat with your neighbours and get some generic responses.

"my dad spent his life getting my name on the list, I hope to get my son to see the river spirit!"

"I just slipped the guards some seaweed and they let me right in"

"The river spirit may need me, so I'm waiting around here just in case"

You explain that you urgently need to see the river spirit to resolve the issue at the temple.

"I need to urgently see the river spirit too, did you know cats eat fish?? That's SCARY!!!"

"I heard some gossip about the temple, a crab has been impersonating a priest and at night he eats his colleagues. I wonder if its true?"

"Actually, I don't even know why I am here." one fish swims away and the waiting room decreases by one person!

You ask by what metric do they let people into the next area

"I'm not sure, they just call your name"

"You are supposed to go to the front and get a number, this is the line for that"

"No no no, you are simply called when needed. You just have to wait! You will get kicked out if you make too much trouble!"

Since Blue Oni clearly doesn't look like a fish, we could use that to our advantage.
Claim to be a guard or staff member so that the people in line will get out of our way.
Maybe say that someone near the front of the the line dropped something and that we need to return it to them.

You take firm grasp of the octopus and use his body as a battering ram! The sea of supplicants parts as you make your way to the front! However, your aggressive stance is noted by the locals who comment on your ogreish behaviour.

"These gaijin are so rude... cant the guards do something about them in our country?"

"Ah, another foreigner acting belligerent... I guess it cant be helped..."

"It is how 'they' are... Its to be expected..."

Their pointed racism causes you to suffer some damage to your psyche, especially since you are playing into the stereotype!

"Wake up fish! before I make you a dish!"

"oooh, i'm so tired... just another hundred years..." he mumbles before turning over and continuing to sleep.

Looks like if you want to get through you are going to need to deal with this fish

The crab panics when he notices you looking over his shoulder. He tries to hid his doodles under some other paper work. Its too late for him however, as you start asking him about what he is drawing.

In a low tone he explains he used to write a story to entertain some friends, before finding work and leaving that kind of thing behind. The little character he was drawing was called a 'seeker' and was on a mission to save his kingdom from drought. Sometimes he wishes he could return to writing stories, but just no longer has the time.

> Wait in line and observe the river spirit in action
Wait and observe for a lil bit. If things are still really slow, then heading to the front becomes warranted.

Like, there's a couple of things we should try to look for / pay attention to.
1. Are we 100% certain that this is the same river spirit as our friend from before, or is it possible that this is like his older sibling or something
2. Why the hell is it so crowded and busy here? Is it just regular boring crap, or is there some specific reason that the fish are all here. If it's some major event, it might be useful to know that before starting the conversation
3. Does anyone down here know about the human conflict above? Do they care? If so, how do they feel?
4. If we want to ask the River Spirit for help against the Sword Hunt army, then being slightly respectful and not immediately barging to the front of the line might help our chances.

>Ey-yo, how come u be so big?

You don't need to ask this question because you already know the answer! You recall yourself recalling the memories of the shrine maiden regarding the river spirit:

'' This is a famous and well known spirit! You have been wrestling with a celebrity this whole time. Wow, small world! This spirit is known by many names and worshipped differently in the villages and towns that populate its river. This is because as the river travels and the wider it becomes, the spirit grows in strength with it. Leading to a case of mistaken identity.

You also recall something you didn't want to know, this spirit is the one who sent the shrine maiden on the quest that would lead to her death! Uh-oh, this is dangerous brain territory.''

its been a long time, so its understandable to forget.

The booming voice of the river spirit fills the chamber as he singles you out!

"Who dares break etiquette in the great halls of the mighty Ryūjin!!!"

You shake your fist at the river spirit in defiance.
"Calm yourself you silly serpent! Can't you see that my business is urgent? "

The river spirit squints down at you before placing his spectacles onto his face "I recognize that ridiculous vernacular anywhere, is that my childhood friend Oni come to pay me a visit?"

Thats right! It seems he recognizes you from his adolescence, the time you put into your relationship is paying off.

"It is good to see you Oni but this really is not a good time, there is so much work to be done! There are papers to file and servants to instruct. Lets get together later tonight, we will have a good time then!"

Well if he has to work he has to work... You understand. Tonight it is, you will get together then.

You are escorted to a fine apartment where you wait for the river spirit. However when a knock finally comes to the door its not the river spirit who arrives but a messenger. He hands you a note that reads: "You see the new project is a hassle and an incident occurred at the sixth magistrates office, I have to cancel today ill see you tomorrow when I can."

"The river spirit is very busy" the jellyfish explains.

You put one arm around the jellyfish and sweet talk him. You NEED to see the river spirit so you need to get on the itinerary! The jelly fish isn't so sure about that, only really important people get on the list...

Exactly, important people are on the list so if he puts you on the list you are an important person that needs to be on the list, shrimple.

Your moment comes tomorrow while the river spirit is on his way to a construction site. The river spirit swims quickly and you keep up to the best of your abilities.

"Oni, what are you doing here? What can I help you with?"

You don't have time to say everything you need to say before your time slot ends, so prioritize!

Hmmm, well should do it in order of time sensitive actions, right?
He can only help us with a single thing right now, but it's not like we can't stay longer and resolve the other issues within a month or two, right?

The warring conflict is the most immediate concern, since Yuki said the fighting could break out any day now.
Then comes the issue with the temple and the missing shrine maidens.
Once those two are fixed, we can hang out with our old pal and spend time having fun. Maybe ask him how he'd feel about two little fox spirits to adopt.

So my vote is for:
>Ask the river spirit to allow the civilians to escape across the river
Because the conflict is the most urgent, yet Blue Oni does not want to pick a side by asking the spirit to help the local daimyo; we picked our own side during the snowball fight, and we have overall mostly focused on helping people rather than choosing specific factions to fight. That said, it might be worth explaining the details about the Sword Hunt emperor war thingy so that the River Spirit can decide for himself rather than us trying to force him into a side.

>>6455035
I'll back this fishbro clearly needs a break and later we can ask him about the problem with the shrine and neutrality.

You explain the situation in brisk rhyming terms to the river spirit, and ask him to allow the civilians to escape the city!

The river spirit ponders your request. "It is the duty of the humans to maintain my temple, they have not done so. Now, when they require aid they come to me for help. If I assist them now, would I not be enabling their lack of foresight?"

"Well said my lord well said" chimes in one magistrate

"HOWEVER! since the request comes from you Oni I will honour it. Any human family that bears no arms may pass over my river once they have cleansed their soul with an offering or bottled rain and a broken arrow at my temple!"

"my lord is most wise and merciful!!!" repeats the same magistrate

"I have always been too kind to the humans, perhaps their complacency is a result of that. Now that I think of it, you may be the root cause of this behaviour. Its interesting how a small seed planted in our youth can manifest in adulthood"

You thank the river spirit for his understanding in this matter.

"Now Oni I must be going, there are fish to oversee and projects to manage! But it was sure nice talking to you!"

The River spirit gives you a polite bow then swims away!

>What do?

You head back to the turtle and get a ride back to the surface. He is not too pleased to see you but a job is a job!

On your way back you reflect on your time under the river. Its too bad the water spirit was too busy to spend more time with you. Perhaps that's just a part of getting older. You reflect while reflecting on the summer of your youth and how little worries you used to have. Now look at you! Busy saving a city of people and exercising temples! You should be careful in the future to make sure you keep a good work to life balance... Perhaps you will eat a whole pig after this...

Back on the surface you are relieved to find the conflict has not yet begun and things look normal. However you spare no time, and head straight for the temple. The spiritual pressure from the barrier is intense but thanks to your talisman, you make it through ok. It would have been pretty bad if you lost this!

However, on your path you encounter a familiar crumpled up body! Its Yuki! He looks busted and ragged, as if he was dragged around behind a cart. You call out to him but he is unresponsive...

Hold up Oni, remember that the last time you met up with Yuki, he tried to ATTACK you! Be weary of tricks!

You decide to check up on Yuki and let your guard down while doing so! If this was a trap by Yuki or if there was a monster lurking you would have been in some trouble. Luckily, your curiosity is rewarded and nothing bad happens.

Taking a closer look at Yuki, you find that he hasn't been attacked or injured. He just seems to have collapsed from exhaustion. As if he had just carried a boulder up a mountain. From your best examination you are pretty sure this IS Yuki and not some kind of doppelganger who has replaced him.

However, Yuki is an odd boy isn't he?

Looks like Yuki tried to walk past the barrier but the spiritual pressure kept him out. But he pressed onwards until he collapsed from exertion. If it is meant to keep spirits from going in or out, then it appears that Yuki has some sort of spiritual aspect.

hmmmm.... wait a minute... eureka! You got it!!!

The reason Yuki is so strange is because... he is a VIRGIN! Of course, it all makes sense when you see it through that lens! From the fruity way he acts, to his obliviousness! He just has never known the touch of a women! Why is he so fast? Why is he so obsessed with his job? Why has he never made a move? All easily answered by lacking that laid back swagger of someone who has done the sideways nasty.

How does that explain him being passed out on the side of the road? Well, virgins area always passing out from exhaustion (probably). You wouldn't know because you lost your V card some months ago. Heh, to think you used to be just like him.

Looking back at how oddly sneaky Yuki was and how all those people were conveniently asleep. Well, that's all explained in the same hand wavy way. Now that you think about it even his clan name is strange. But at this point you, have already convinced yourself by that undeniable truth of never being wrong about anything!

Now that it has been settled forever and for all time. You can confidently never bring it up again! You pick up Yuki and head to the temple!!!

>There is no prompt! There may be another update later tonight though!!!

Then I fear that it might not be the case for very long. It'll be close to a year soon since Oni last crushed someone's pelvis, and anons are getting more horny by the day.
>>
>>6457548
Given how his eyes were zeroed on the Oni's tits the whole time and he failed to ever notice the horns until the oni directly pointed it out...makes sense.

Also don't forget the bath which had the oni question his sex despite seeing him naked and the fact that his eyes never left her tits. Shrine Maiden memories was also completely clueless about the opposite sex which doesn't mix well with Oni appetites.

>>6457658
Oni has some modicum of self control due to shrine maiden memories. However, there is very much a limit to that given the snu snu among her very strong appetites.

You arrive at the temple with Yuki in hand to find it much less abandoned then you assumed. It turns out eight monks are still living here! Each is a candidate to take charge of the temple, but non have made the move since only the head monk seems to be going missing...

They are not please to see an Oni. However after explaining your situation, showing the talisman given to you by the Daimyo, and explaining that you are helping a special investigator from the capital, they are more or less forced to accept you. Oddly enough they seem more upset at your shrine maiden half then your Oni half! The monks see shrine maidens as LAZY! They couldn't even exorcise the demon living in the temple! Monks are very busy interpreting the works of the great buddha and cant be tasked with such things! In fact, the lazy shrine maidens haven't even been translating the great works lately so they have nothing to ponder on! Outrages!

Your training teaches you to apologize to the monks on behalf of your maiden sisters... Monks are very important!

You spend some time investigating the temple and come to realize several ABSOLUTE TRUTHS about the situation...

- A DEMON is hiding among the monks in disguise! He will LIE to implicate someone else...
- six of the monks are GOOD! They will tell the TRUTH to reveal the demon
- Monk E is secretly the son of the Daimyo! If you accuse him INCORRECTLY it will be very bad so make sure you are certain!
- one of the monks has been converted to work with the DEMON! He is EVIL but will still say the TRUTH!!!

>What do?
- Make a GUESS! [say who you think it is, guesses with no explanation still count!]
- Wait for Yuki to awake and give you a hint...
>>
I say we punch them all and let the buddha sort them out

As far as I can tell, no non-demon can lie. This means any monk that is vouched for is not the demon, i.e. only A/F/H can be the demon.

Either A or F work: if A is demon (false+evil), B is the conspirator (true+evil) pointing out A as the demon, D is good and points out B as the evil conspirator, and everyone else is vouching for a fellow good monk

If F is demon, G is conspirator and everyone else is good. B is pointing G out as an evil conspirator and D is pointing F out as the evil demon, everyone else is vouching for a fellow good monk

6 monks good, 2 evil; 1 evil monk LIES, 1 evil monk tells truth

E made no statement, so cannot be lying. Therefore E cannot be evil.

Begin with B: he cannot be lying, because he would then be evil, contradicting A. Likewise, D.

so B,D are TRUTHFUL (but could be evil...)

A,C,E,F,G,H are suspects. Of these, H is unmentioned by either B or D. If H were lying, he would be evil. His statement falsity would imply C is evil, all other monks good. This contradicts D. Therefore H is truthful

If H is true, C is true, D is good and truthful. Therefore B is Truthful but EVIL

The evil one is either A, C, G.

A claims B is good, but we established B is Evil (but truthful). Therefore A is Evil and lying
>>
>>6458761
>E made no statement, so cannot be lying. Therefore E cannot be evil.
E can't be evil, but not because he didn't say anything. A monk can be both truthful and evil. E is good because he's vouched for by G.

>D is good and truthful.
yes
>Therefore B is Truthful but EVIL
No, for the statement "B, E, or F is evil" to implicate B as evil you would have to have already proven both E and F as good. It seems to me you haven't proven F as good.

Why do you believe F is good?
>>
>>6458734
>>6458761
yeah. A is the demon (the liar). Be is the evil monk (but still telling the truth). B has to be telling the truth or there is a contradiction like you said.

A: "B is good" THIS IS A LIE BECAUSE B IS THE EVIL MONK.
B: "A, C, or G is evil" THIS IS TRUE BECAUSE A IS THE DEMON.
C: "D is good" TRUE
D: "B, E, or F is evil" THIS IS TRUE BECAUSE B IS THE EVIL MONK.
E: (says nothing)
F: "G is good" TRUE
G: "E is good" TRUE
H: "C is good" TRUE

Oni is smart!
>>
I have to agree, it's all recursive - for example, start wirh G.

If G is lying, then F would also, so that's not possible. If F is lying and G is evil but truthful, then B would be also lying, so that can't be true either. But if B is lying then A is also lying, and since that can't be true, then A must be lying.

So yeah, A liar and B evil but truthful.
>>
>>6458766
>Why do you believe F is good?
hmm

Scenario 1 (Monk A is the Demon):
A lies ("B is good"; B is Evil).
B is the converted Evil Monk (tells truth).
B's statement ("A, C, or G is evil") is true because A is the Demon.
D's statement ("B, E, or F is Evil") is true because B is Evil.

Scenario 2 (Monk F is the Demon):
F lies ("G is good"; G is Evil).
G is the converted Evil Monk (tells truth).
B's statement ("A, C, or G is evil") is true because G is Evil.
D's statement ("B, E, or F is Evil") is true because F is the Demon

Is a demon "Evil"? Does it matter that one is "Evil" and one is "evil"? If only a monk is Evil and the demon is not evil then I think it is scenario 1. Maybe. Possibly. I'm confused.

Comes down to semantics, so we'd have to maybe think of a question for A and F to figure out which one.
>>
>>6458734
>A demon, B evil monk
Other anons have already covered the reasoning - it's gotta be either the AB or CD pair, and CD is vouched for by H but AB has no such support.

IDK why all these dudes assume it's A. As OravgvWM already explained, either Monk A or Monk F could be liars. There are no logical discrepancies in either case.

>>6458776
>If F is lying and G is evil but truthful, then B would be also lying
What makes you think that? The statement "A, C, or G is evil" is true in this case because G is evil. Thus B would not be lying.

>>6458779
>so we'd have to maybe think of a question for A and F to figure out which one.
Yeah technically we could ask Monk A "What would you say if you were Monk F" and ask Monk F "What would you say if you were Monk A?"
(Assuming A: liars have no choice but to say the opposite of the truth, B: We have explained that the liar is A or F)

Case 1: Monk A is truthful, Monk F is a liar. Ergo Monk B is good and Monk G is evil.
Monk A: "If I were Monk F I would say G is good." (He would indeed falsely claim monk G is good if he was the lying Monk F)
Monk F: "If I were Monk A I would say B is evil." (This is a lie. If he was the honest monk A, he would rightly say "B is good")

Case 2 Monk A is a liar, Monk F is truthful. Ergo Monk B is evil and Monk G is good.
Monk A: "If I were Monk F I would say G is evil." (This is a lie. If he was the honest monk F, he would rightly say "G is good")
Monk F: "If I were Monk A I would say B is good." (He would indeed falsely claim monk B is good if he was the lying Monk A)
>>
>>6458766
>>6458761
>Prove that F is good

It cannot be F tracing backwards from E

Whoever does not lie must be GOOD (the LIAR MUST BE EVIL, but one amongst the 2-Evil pair tells the truth)

E did not lie, hence E is good, truthful
G affirms E is good, therefore G did not lie, G is Good, truthful
F affirms G is good, therefore F did not lie, F must be Good, truthful
>>
>>6458854
>Whoever does not lie must be GOOD
This statement can't be true, because there is one monk who is evil but tells the truth.
>G did not lie, G is Good, truthful
If F is the liar that means G is in fact the monk that is evil but tells the truth.

>>6458761

I try this approach, exhaustive search

The liar must be one of the 2 evil monks, so here is a list of pair combinations

Searching for any valid evil pair from the accusation set of evil

A,B,C,E,F,G

gives 6C2 = 15

AB
AC
AE
AF
AG
BC
BE
BF
BG
CE
CF
CG
DE
EF
EG
FG

The set of good combinations
B,C,D,E,G

5C2 = 10

BC
BD
BE
BG
CD
CE
CG
DE
DG
EG

Eliminating from the first list, suspects then

AB AC AE AF AG BF CF EF FG

AB both evil ...
AC both evil: invalid because D (B, E, F evil)
AE both evil: invalid, G: E is good
AF both evil: ...
AG both evil: invalid, F: G is good
BF both evil: invalid, A: B is good
CF both evil: invalid, H: C is good
EF both evil: invalid, G: E is good
FG both evil: ... F: G is good

Now the evil pairs suspect set is AB, AF, FG

By backwards deduction here >>6458854
Because E good, affirmed by G, F (all good and truthful)

The evil pair is AB and as B is established truthful but EVIL via reductio ad absurdum here >>6458761

It must be A who is both EVIL and LYING

>cannot guarantee NOT lying implies good etc (truth could also be the truthful evil monk)
You make a good point /pgnnxMS anon, so we should focus first on Good vs Evil (because these are mutually exclusive, whereas it is possible for the evil one to be truthful even as no good monk ever lies etc)

You cannot be good and evil so the shortlist is still

AB, AF, FG

These three represent the possible both evil pairs after eliminations

AB, A: B is Good - contradiction
AF, compatible with either B or D, no information
FG, F: G is Good - contradiction

I got very confused after your observation, so I tried to draw this diagram, it made me more confused lol

Basically the problem is like finding some 7-polygon of consistent true statements within the 8-polygon of vertices. In this diagram the red triangles represent POSSIBLE evil nodes, the green circles represent possible good nodes. B is the source of evil accusations (accusing one of either A C G) and B cannot be both good and evil. So to me it feels like the AB pair is most likely and if B is EVIL truthful, A must be the FALSE LIAR

There are 8 possible ways to create a 7 heptagon of truth tellers from the 8 octagon of nodes, 8C7=8!/(7!*1!) = 8 etc so technically one could test all combinations

ABCDEFG
ABCDEFH
ABCDEGH
ABCDFGH
ABCEFGH
ABDEFGH
ACDEFGH
BCDEFGH

etc to find the one with logical statement incompatibilities etc. But my mind melted trying to do this

I still think A might be the answer but after /pgnnxMS anon comment I am not too sure anymore

From my diagram, the reason why I suspect AB is the evil pair is because if AB were evil, the remaining 6 nodes must all be truthful and good, and A-B is a direct contradiction, whilst the H-C-D, F-G-E cycles hold true.

The F-G-E chain appears to contain a similar structure to A-B, namely F-G seems to resemble A-B, but the chain does not actually directly contradict itself (as the assertions flow through onto E).

If F-G were the evil pair (all remaining nodes true and good) G-E is actually not contradicted etc.

This is why I suspected that A-B was the direct circular contradiction and my original reasoning above led me to suggest the answer was A.

I don't know if the diagrams are helpful clarification or make this even more confusing and worse lol. It is very possible I have made some silly mistakes lol somewhere or overlooked something
>>
>>6458909
>If F-G were the evil pair (all remaining nodes true and good) G-E is actually not contradicted etc.
Why would one expect "G-E" to be contradicted in the FG pair? If F is the liar then G is evil and truthful, therefore his statement "E is good" is expected to be true.
>>
>>6458911
>>6458909
>>6458899
Yes it is the absence of a contradiction in the F-G-E path that leads me to suspect it is erroneous, it just points to E or null (no verifiable statement). For F to be demonstrated false it must be directly contradicted? If you examine the contingent paths for the F-G solution you notice it seems to begin dangerously with a circularity at A-B and F is at no stage contradicted by any other node (there must be a direct circularity ie contradiction to be proven false? but it terminates at E, null)

In contrast, the A-B solution with A as the evil liar is not dependent on any potentially spurious reasoning from F or G, as B is asserted from D

For AB when you isolate the evil pair, HCDEFG contains no direct circularity self-reference hence no contradiction.

Conversely if you segregate FG on the HCDEAB graph, AB remains as a circuit self-reference, and is in fact the foundation from which C-D-E is derived etc

So I don't know if this is just intuition now lol maybe I am horribly methodologically wrong but I still think A-B as the evil pair appears more robust, with A as the evil liar
>>
i appreciate the soldiers figuring this out because I'm way too stupid to follow

I decided to take another look at this, but this time with the assumption that the Demon is NOT EVIL. The "absolute truths" technically don't assert the demon is evil. There is no way to logically prove the Demon is evil since it's unclear if the Demon counts as a monk of not.
I am also assuming liars say the exact opposite of the truth.

A cannot be the liar because B's statement would be false.
If B is the liar, then either E or F could be evil.
C cannot be the liar because B's statement would be false.
If D is the liar, then A is evil
E violates the "absolute truths" by not saying anything. If he's good he's supposed to tell the truth. If he's evil he's supposed to lie. Ergo either the "absolute truths" are wrong or E is neither good nor evil. Monk E can't possibly be "neutral" if he were, then both Monks A and F would be evil while Monk G is the Demon. Regardless, E can never be the Demon because he doesn't lie.
F cannot be the liar because D's statement would be false.
G cannot be the liar because B's statement would be false.
H cannot be the liar because D's statement would be false.

This leaves B and D as the only viable liars. It also means D is the only liar that proves the evilness of another monk.
Ergo if the Demon is not EVIL, then the Demon is actually Monk D and the EVIL (but truthful) monk is Monk A.
>>
its either ab (with demon: a) or fg (with demon: f). af is only possible if the demon is allowed to say the truth (which i dont interpret that way - "absolute truths" -> "demon ... will lie".

base:
- 8 monks
- 7 of them tell the truth
- 1 of them lies
- 2 of them are evil (i assume that the demon is evil - the wording doesnt say it specifically: but b and d are contradictionary then which means in that case one of them must be lying -> contradiction with a/c which voucher for them, but cant be lying)

thought process:
- as soon as x vouchers for y (x: "y is good") y must tell the truth (because either its true, or x is the demon and y cant lie)
-> b,c,d,e,g are true AND cannot be the demon
-> a,c or g are evil
-> b,e or f evil -> e cant be evil -> b, or f evil
-> d,e good
-> a,f,h are possible demons -> h cannot be a demon since the two evils must be in the groups a,c,g and b,f
-> a, or f are possible demons

case 1: demon is a
- b is evil
this works, i see no contradiction

case 2: demon is f
- g is evil
this works as well, i see no contradiction
>>
>>6458960
desu i'd lean for the FG combo - as in the AB combo b puts a on the suspect list.
in the FG combo f vouchers for g and g gives useless info.

"Did you think I wouldn't find the time, to fit in a rhyme? I plan to solve this case, so that maiden's don't lose face! "

You begin by delivering a SHOCKING revelation that there is not only ONE evil demon hiding among the monks, but one of their own has turned cloth! The monks rabble among themselves seeking to dismiss such ludicrous claims! More shrine maiden propaganda no doubt!

Yes, you knew it would be hard for them to accept the truth so you begin to lay the ground work of your case. Using deduction you make the assertion that all monks that are vouched for must be truth telling monks! So, by process of elimination, the suspicion falls on...
