I received a gun from my father, and I'm not sure how to process it. I'm not into hunting, and I live in a pretty safe neighborhood. Just the thought of having to fire it to protect my family is deeply unsettling to me
>>82466117who says you can't just own the gun and enjoy shooting it?who says you'll ever be in that sort of situation?
>>82466167I'm convinced that conflicts are better resolved through dialogue than with bullets
>>82466467sure, but that doesn't answer either of my questions.what about when dialogue fails or the other party simply isn't interested?would you rather need it and not have it, or have it and not need it?
>>82466467i think you're not getting the pointshooting can be pretty fun, print out some targets and try your best to hit the center or alternatively hit up your local shooting rangei imagine it's like automobiles which i enjoy passionately, perhaps you have public transport and don't really need a car but driving a car can often be fun

>>82466117Violence is a basic component of life on planet earth. Is it hard? Yes, but that's tough shit. You can either deal with it or kill yourself.
>>82466467If someone breaks into your house you can't argue with him, he has intent to rob or physically harm you and he has the cards. Better to have the gun and not need it, than need it and not have it. Take the gun to the range, shoot it a few dozen times so you know what to expect and then you are prepared.
