I'm pretty proficient at Blackbird now. I just need a bit more time until I can play it perfect! Also continued practicing the first few chords of Let Down. I think my fingers are starting to get used to playing chords. Still have trouble moving my fingers between the chords, though... I think progress will be slow. But that's okay!

I got a guitar for my birthday but I am yet to even try anything with it. What are you using to learn?
>>

I want to learn Girl from Ipanema, some Laufey songs, and some Porter Robinson songs. Of course, I'd also like to learn any song that I come across that I like!

I started with a beginner book, but then looked up a song tutorial for Blackbird and practiced it every day until I got decent at it! Now I'm learning Let Down by looking at the chords on a website. I want to learn another song using chords, but I have to finish learning Let Down first.
You should start learning, too! We can learn together! There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube to help you get started.

that's the hardest part about guitar, the trick is to make the finger pattern before touching the strings.

Are you playing it fingerstyle or the strumming version?

Strumming. I just found some chords online and transposed them. I doubt it will sound anything like the original, but I just want a song to sing while learning how to play chords!

When you first start it's better to just play the 'easy' version of the songs, slowly but surely. One the mistake many people make is to play songs that are too hard, and they end up frustrated.

Also, singing while maintaining a strumming pattern is really hard lol

That's the idea. Granted, I did struggle with Blackbird, but I'm planning on taking it easy with Let Down.
I know singing while strumming is hard, but if I don't learn that now then when will I ever learn it? (Of course, after I get used to the chord changes...)

Ill finally start learning this weekend. I know ive seen stuff like justin guitar on youtube. Biggest challenge is trying to not be a loser and actually do something with my time

It is tough to actually start doing something instead of wasting the entire day on the computer! I struggle with that too, but starting on the guitar has made me feel a sense of progression and satisfaction that I can't get from my computer. It's worth it! I hope these threads are an inspiration to you. You're welcome to post updates here if you'd like. I'd love to see how you progress!
I think JustinGuitar's starter courses are a great place to start.

A good song to learn is Green Day's 'good riddance', it has fingerstyle and strumming sections, while having very basic chords that are very close to each other, so you don't have a hard time switching between them.

I don't know which chords you're using but if you're using chords that are too far apart, you'll struggle too much, afaik blackbird isn't really beginner friendly.

Oh gosh, actually, I love this song! I heard it so long ago but I never knew what it was called. Maybe I will learn it!

Good luck man, hope you do well. I believe not many young people are interested in playing instruments nowadays.
