I was thinking about this recently as I was pulling out of my university parking lot and a girl passed by me in what looked to be a 2024 Honda Civic Touring, despite the fact that she was maybe 18 or 19 years old. I then decided to make a mental note of all of the cars my friends have, even my friends who have decent incomes and are fairly well off, and I dont think I have a friend who has a car which is more expensive than roughly half of that Civic. Hell, every guy I know is driving a car a decade old or older, and many of them dont know if their car is going to randomly die every time they take it out for a spin. On the other hand, every girl I know (at least every girl I know who can drive, or has been driving for awhile) has a nice, borderline luxury car. I have seen girls in their late teens or early 20s casually driving type-r civics and late 2010s mustangs as their daily drivers, yet I dont know a single guy over 30 who has a car like that let along could even possibly afford one. What I have found even stranger is that a lot of girls now seem to actually be somewhat aware of what goes into their car and what is needed to maintain it or even upgrade it. I know a lot of guys will be happy that women are finally getting into cars, but holy shit, it feels like as an entire gender we're being surpassed, at least in my age range. My boss had 3 functional cars by the time he was 18, and he was dirt poor, just a good mechanic.
