I kinda hated that episode because although there is a shitload of edgelord 'nihilist' kiddies who act like that, the episode kinda postures itself as singlehandedly dismantling the entire philosophy with a single made-up scenario. As if the validity of nihilism as a whole hinges on how the individual who subscribes to it reacts to danger and little else; as if all nihilists are essentially the same and will always react to the same things the same way (as pathetically as possible); as if nihilists never kill others or themselves without fear; as if nihilism as an idea isn't inherently diverse and complex and capable of impacting different people in different ways both positive and negative.
That kind of writing feels like when make up an argument in your head during a shower and make your opponent say all the wrong things so you can just totally demolish and humiliate them to emerge the unambiguous, unquestionable victor in the interaction. It's insultingly reductive and overly simplistic.
More annoying is that fans of the show have been using that scene to kind of antagonize anyone who expresses literally any negative emotion on the internet whatsoever. For like a solid year and a half, in certain spaces (mostly Twitter), if you showed literally any amount of cynicism over the tiniest thing people would reference that scene where the edgelord nihilist pisses himself and starts crying at the mere prospect of death. Super annoying.
I really hate the RickAndMortyification of adult animation. It happened to Bojack Horseman too. Good show, couple cringe albeit forgivable scenes, god-awful fanbase.

I love Smiling Friends otherwise, and I loved Everything Everywhere All At Once, but that wave of obnoxious forced positivity as some sort of revolutionary movement got old real fucking fast.

people are gonna turn on this show and it's fans very soon.
people move on from the things they find funny so quickly that these shows only get around three seasons of goodwill.
