Buddhist Texts:

Maharatnakuta Sutra (Tale of King Udayana of Vatsa):
"The dead snake and dog / Are detestable, / But women are even more / Detestable than they are."

Gotami Sutta (Vinaya Pitaka, Cullavagga X):
"If, Ananda, women had not obtained the going forth from home to homelessness in the discipline declared by the Tathagata, the holy life would have lasted long, the true Dhamma would have lasted for a thousand years. But now, since women have gone forth, the holy life will not last long, the true Dhamma will last only five hundred years."


Hindu Texts:

Manusmriti 9.17:
"For women are not capable of living independently. They are by nature sexual, given to anger, and untruthful."

Mahabharata (Anushasana Parva 13.46.5-6):
"Women are living lies... The mind of woman cannot be disciplined; she has very little intelligence."
